“Hey guys!” Uraraka waved cheerfully at the camera. “My name is Uraraka Ochako, and welcome back to Farm to Table, a show where we explore where our food comes from!”
“For today’s episode, we’re going to be doing something a liiittle different.” On the counter was a pile of misshapen brown lumps, mottled with different black and brown spots. “On our cacao episode, a lot of you were a little… shall we say, disappointed with me, when I didn’t make chocolate out of a cacao pod.”
Uraraka’s smile turned icy, as a screenshot popped up on screen. She held up a little slip of paper from her hand and cleared her voice.
“ ‘Making chocolate isn’t easy,’ ” she read, widening her eyes for emphasis. “ ‘This girl has no idea what she’s talking about.’ ”
The dark, saccharine expression on her face never faltered as she ripped up the paper into tiny pieces, throwing bits over her shoulder.
“Now, I’m here to show you that actually, yes – making chocolate can be easy!” The hard smile was replaced by a warm grin. “My friends at Tokyo Cacao sent me some pods to work with, and lucky for us, they’re ripe and ready to go!”
She beamed, picking up a pod and showing it off to the camera. “I’ll show you guys how to turn these bad boys into chocolate - and after that, I’m gonna share one of my favorite chocolate recipes with you!”
Uraraka then grinned mischievously. “First things first – we gotta crack this little guy open.” Reaching under the countertop, she whipped out a gigantic chef’s knife. It was easily as long as Uraraka’s forearm, and the polished blade was engraved with two characters that clearly read, ‘Bakugou.’
A choking sound was heard off screen.
“Holy shit Uraraka, you took it?!” A man popped into frame, gaping at the knife in Uraraka’s hand. “Dude, Bakugou’s been looking for that all morning - he’s going to kill you for real this time!”
“Not if he doesn’t find out,” she said seriously, fixing the blonde man with a pointed look. “You’re not going to rat me out, are you, Kaminari?”
“And get killed in his Baku-rage? No thanks.” He shivered, staring at the knife as if it was going to attack him. “At least you’ve got a chance of surviving.”
Uraraka laughed, rolling her eyes. “You’re acting like he’s going to eat you or something.”
“You don’t know about poor Mineta,” Kaminari looked grave as he closed his eyes in a moment of silence, before scurrying out of frame. He called out, “If anyone, especially Bakubro, asks – I was never here!”
“O… kay?... ” Uraraka blinked at the camera for a few moments and then shook her head in amusement. “Anyways, back to the topic – opening the pod! The rind is pretty thick and slippery, so be careful where you’re cutting! The best way is to set the edge of the knife in one of the grooves and give it a good whack, like this - !”

“Oh fuck, that’s good,” Bakugou groaned, mouth full as he chewed. The mango-coconut tart in front of him was dotted with swirls of candied orange peel as a garnish, but it did nothing to hide the fact that the entire thing was dusted with a liberal coating of violent red chili powder.
At his side, Uraraka beamed, sniffling a little from the pervasive scent of spice in the air. “I added some lime too, just to break up the richness – it’s not too sweet?”
“S’fucking perfect.” Bakugou scarfed down the last bite of the piece in his hand. He let out another long moan, the sound of it deep and guttural, and Uraraka’s eyes widened as she stared, her cheeks turning red. “Screw it, I’m eating this for lunch.”
“Eh?” Uraraka blinked, snapping out of her daze just as the tray was snatched from her workbench. “Wait, wait – Bakugou! Give it back, I haven’t even tasted it yet!”
“Pft, like you wouldn’t down a carton of milk after one bite,” he scoffed, holding the tart above his head and trying to fend off Uraraka with his free hand as she pulled at his arm. “Fucking get off, Uraraka, I – !”

Todoroki stared down at the gooey, green-streaked mess of chocolate in front of him mournfully. At his side, Yaoyorozu looked equally despondent, poking at the dull sheen of dark chocolate covering the biscuit in her hand.
“Should we…?” Todoroki glanced over hesitantly, and Yaoyorozu bit her lip.
“I was really hoping we’d get it this time.” She sighed heavily, before turning around. The camera zoomed out, the frame widening to show a few people milling around in the background. “Uraraka! Do you have a moment?”
A chirpy voice replied, “Sure!” Todoroki visibly sighed in relief, quickly dumping his mixing bowl into the sink of dirty dishes as Uraraka came into the shot.
“Huh, that’s definitely not right…” The brunette poked Yaoyorozu’s chocolate mixture with a frown. “What temperature did you heat this to?”
“45 degrees?” Uraraka hummed, scooping up a bit of the mixture and dumping it into her hand. She rubbed at it, frowning. “What did you use as your seeded chocolate?”
Todoroki slid the half-empty bag of chocolate chips across the counter, and Uraraka dumped a pile of them out. Little disks spilled across the marble, and she tested one piece between her clean fingers. “Uh, you know that you’re supposed to use tempered chocolate to seed, right?”
Todoroki opened his mouth, paused, then closed it abruptly. Yaoyorozu buried her face in her hands and audibly groaned.
“Hey, the good news is that you can totally reuse this!” Uraraka tried to smile encouragingly. “Did the matcha chocolate come out weird too, or –?”
“Oi, what the fuck is this?” The camera panned to the side, where Bakugou was holding up Todoroki’s abandoned mixing bowl in a fist, features twisted into a grimace. “Did all those e-cigs fry your brain, Half-and-half? Who the fuck doesn’t sift matcha before –”
“Hey, lay off of him, Bakugou.” Uraraka stomped over and snatched the bowl away. “Tempering is hard! And you know white chocolate is tricky.”
“Tch, please.” He scoffed. “What kind of idiot can’t temper chocolate?”
Uraraka’s eyes flashed, and she planted her arms on her waist. “Have you ever tempered chocolate before?”
“What kind of dumbass question is that?” Bakugou growled. “Course I have, I didn’t live under a fucking rock like these two morons.”
Yaoyorozu bristled indignantly, but Uraraka held up her hand. Todoroki just looked tired, and muttered under his breath, “Here we go again…”
“Then you wouldn’t mind giving us a demonstration, would you?” Bakugou looked at her sweet, smiling face suspiciously. “Or are you too chicken to prove it?”
Red eyes flashed dangerously. “... the fuck did you just say?”
─── ・。゚❁゚。・ ───
The video cut to a shot of lumpy, melted white goo, before zooming out to show Bakugou’s scowl. “What the fuck is wrong with this shitty chocolate?” He kept stirring, even more vigorously this time, and looked down at the mixture as if he was trying to set it on fire with his glare.
Todoroki and Yaoyorozu were tucked a little ways away, snickering quietly as they watched from a safe distance away. Across from Bakugou, leaning casually against the counter, Uraraka smiled gleefully.
“Hur-dur, ‘what kind of idiot can’t temper chocolate?’ ” she mimicked, her voice lowered in an approximation of the blonde’s low growl. Uraraka laughed, and then ducked as a chocolate-covered spatula sailed over her head.
“FUCK OFF, ROUND FACE!”

smolbean678 reblogged kryssalys ochaakou:
reasons you should stan uraraka ochako, u.a.’s farming goddess and resident bakugou whisperer:
- has probably saved about half of the “from scratch” episodes by virtue of being the only person in the entire u.a. test kitchen who can consistently temper chocolate
- speaking of chocolate, this woman pulled the hardest flex by making her own chocolate from a raw cacao pod, and then proceeded to make chocolate chicken mole with it just to prove to the haters that she could
- is the acting president of the musutafu ninniclub, a japanese club for lovers of garlic. she also openly admits to sleeping with a ninnikyun plushie, aka the club mascot which is apparently a giant garlic clove (seriously, you can’t make this shit up guys)
- vocal advocate of Feeding Japan, a hunger relief organization that works to combat food insecurity, and is frequently seen volunteering at food banks and soup kitchens (1) (2) (3) (4)
- a lot of the ingredients she features in the “farm to table” series come from her parent’s farm! (pics) she grew up working at her parents’ stall at her hometown farmer’s market and promotes buying locally to support regional farms and businesses.
- this masterpiece of a tweet: “I love food and I love to eat. If someone wants to shame me for my body then they can go fuck themselves.”
- creates recipes that not only taste good but are also healthy, quick, easy and beginner friendly – yes, I’m looking at you, mr. bakugou “just fucking flip it and reduce for 3 days” katsuki – see the archive of her recipes here (x)
- has a tiktok dedicated entirely to trolling todoroki’s reactions with weird flavors of soba, these are my favorites (1) (2) (3) (4) (5) (6) (7)
- she’s a self-taught chef who started as a dishwasher and worked up to being the sous chef at ryuko tatsuma’s restaurant dragoon before coming to the u.a. test kitchen and was regularly praised by food critics (1) (2) (3) (4) (5)
- has single-handedly saved u.a. millions of yen from that one time she stopped bakugou from ‘accidentally’ exploding an air fryer
- speaks fluent baku-rage, not to mention their chemistry is off the charts hoO BOY the slow burn is fucking real y’all
alright there’s so much more stuff but I fucking hate formatting links, so watch farm to table and follow uraraka on social media (twitter / instagram / tiktok) because this queen deserves our love. thanks for coming to my ted talk.

“Ugh.” Uraraka glared down at the sad, deflated lumps sitting in the middle of her ramekins. “Where is Aoyama when you need him?”
“That looks pathetic,” a blunt voice said, and Uraraka sighed as Bakugou came into the camera frame, leaning over the counter to peer into one cup with a skeptical look. “What the hell are you making?”
“Well, it’s supposed to be a pistachio-strawberry souffle.” She huffed, rubbing at her neck in frustration. “I can’t figure out how to get the nuts to distribute evenly… and it’s just not rising? I don’t get it – I remade my pastry cream like, three times, I know it’s fine, and I buttered my molds but it just…”
“You try freezing the molds after you butter them?” A frown came over Uraraka’s face as she shook her head. Bakugou grabbed one of the little cups, prodding the contents with a finger, and made a face. “Keeps it from contaminating your mixture and fucking up the rise.”
“When I make them at home, they’re usually fine at room temp,” she said dejectedly. “I don’t know why I can’t get it right today.”
The camera zoomed in a little, focusing on Bakugou’s expression as he glanced towards Uraraka. He looked a little concerned, and after a beat of silence, he came around the counter to stand beside her.
“Oi, don’t get all mopey on me, Cheeks.” He nudged her shoulder lightly, settling a hand across the back of Uraraka’s neck. “You good?”
She sighed heavily, leaning a little into his hand. “Yeah, yeah, I just… I don’t know. My brain isn’t working right now.”
“Tch.” Bakugou looked over the mess of bowls spread across the counter, eyes settling on the deflated looking egg-whites on one side. “Look – I’ll help ya out, just this once. Don’t quit on me now, yeah?
She blinked, looking up at him with furrowed brows. “But I thought… don’t you have that thing, with –”
“Don’t worry ‘bout it. This is more important,” he said, shrugging off his leather jacket and rolling up his sleeves. Uraraka just looked back at him in confusion.
“But…” She bit her lip hesitantly. “Are you sure?”
“Yeah.” Bakugou smirked back at her as he tied on his apron. “I got you, Cheeks.”

Uraraka rubbed her eyes, blinking as she gaped.
“You…” She looked up at him, chin trembling. “Did you really…?”
“Tch.” Bakugou huffed, trying to hide a smile. “What, your eyes don’t work now, Cheeks?” he teased.
“I just - ” Uraraka pinched herself, yelping at the pain, before a huge, toothy smile broke out across her face. “Oh my god, I can’t believe you actually did it.”
“You did get on your knees and beg, so…” He shrugged, snickering as Uraraka approached the counter reverently, her face glowing in sheer joy. “Ten kinds of mochi, as fuckin’ promised.”
She turned to him pleadingly. “Can I…?”
“I already took the photos.” He nodded at the spread, a rainbow of different colors delicately arranged with a pot of tea, ready to be eaten. “Go for it, babygirl.”
Uraraka already had a daifuku mochi halfway to her mouth, lips open as she got ready to take a bite, when an unfamiliar voice cut into the video.
“Wait a second.” Both of them paused to look at the camera in confusion. “Did he just call you babygirl?”
There was a beat of silence, before Uraraka’s face exploded into a bright red blush. Next to her, Bakugou quietly muttered, “Fuck.”

Thar, Nak, Yak, Zopkios, Zoa - Coquihalla Summit Recreation Area - 13 hours, 15 minutes
What an adventure last weekend! Ariadna, Joseph, Nick, Natasha, Rodger, & I summitted five peaks in one day. We started at 7:50am and ended at 21:10hrs. On Friday night, Ariadna and I went for a quick climb at Project Abby and then drove out to the parking lot at the base of the summits and camped in her van. The rain was relentless and continued on throughout the evening and we started to believe that the weather might not be so great for the hike the next morning. We fell asleep to the sound of the rain and the hope that we would wake up to the sunshine.
The next morning, we woke up at 6am and awaited our friends’ arrival while we got ready. They had to drop off their dogs in Chilliwack so I accepted that we would be starting the hike later than I normally would have liked. When they arrived, they looked so prepared and ready to go that I began to feel insecure and nervous. I knew that three of them were part of SAR (four including Ariadna) and I think this intimidated me. I fumbled with my pack and couldn’t decide if I wanted to wear my jacket or not. Somewhere within the first 20 minutes of hiking, I lost the mouthpiece to my water bladder and got very hot in my jacket. I tried to take off my jacket as quickly as possible without falling behind; I realized very soon that I was the slowest and least experienced in the group.
Thar is not a popular hike and cowers beneath the more prominent Nak and Yak peaks that people tend to focus on. Thus, we had to create our own trail and bushwhack the first hour or so to get to the ridge of Thar. I was glad to finally be a follower and not worry about whether we were on the right trail or not. It felt nice to not have to be the one to continuously look at my map and phone to make sure we were not getting lost. I tried to engage with the rest of the group who were people I didn’t know. I wanted them to like me and not think I was holding them back or slowing them down. I could hear my heart pounding in my ears - how were they all so fast?
We quickly gained elevation and reached Thar. Once we got to the snow line, I realized with embarrassment that I didn’t even know how to hold my ice axe properly. Nick noticed this and very kindly taught me how to hold it and what to do in case I started to slip. I tried to suppress my insecurities and focus on how amazing it was to be doing this incredible traverse with such confident people.
After Thar, we hiked along the ridge and enjoyed the foggy views of the following peaks we had to get to. We think we saw a wolverine although it was very far and since I’m practically blind, I wasn’t even sure what I was looking at. When we got to the base of Yak, we put on our microspikes and donned our ice axes to prepare for the steep snow bank. Again, I felt a bit nervous but the first hill ended up being fine and not as steep as I thought.
Throughout our traverse, I noticed that I was keeping up and doing just fine but I continued to be in my head about my insecurities. I know this is something I need to work on because what I express outwardly does not always match how I feel inside and I am getting tired of the insecure version of me holding me back. There was one point during the hike when I was ‘leading’ everyone up a snowy hill and felt I was going too slowly. My mind kept telling my body to go faster because somehow I thought my teammates would resent me if I was going slower than their usual pace. Yet, in my inexperience with the ice axe, I stumbled and slid down the snow into Nick. I tried to self-arrest just like Nick taught me but I think I reacted too slowly. I tried to brush it off and make a joke but before anyone could say anything, I walked across to the rocky slope (where there was no snow) and clambered up the hill that way instead. I felt much safer on the boulder field but knew that if I wanted to do more mountaineering, I would have to overcome my insecure mind and, of course, let go of others’ opinions of me.
We ate lunch on the Zopkios ridge. By this time, it was near 3pm and the sunshine was dissipating the fog. As we looked back at the summits we had hiked that day, we couldn’t believe that we did it all on our own two feet (and hands, I guess!). The rest of the hike did not seem too complex to me but I was definitely wrong about that. Just because there is no giant peak to climb, it does not mean that the route is easy to traverse. We spent over an hour trying to down-climb from Zopkios. We realized that many paths were dangerous and lead to a drop off. Therefore, with much thoughtfulness and trial and error from the entire team, we eventually found the best way for us and used a hand-line to climb down the trickiest part of it.
After all that, we realized it was getting late. It was 6pm and we were not sure if we would make it to the last peak. We discussed two options: bushwhack down from Zopkios to the lake, which would be around 3.5kms or continue with the original plan of hitting Zoa knowing that there would be a well-worn path down from Zoa (5.5kms). The second option was longer and also involved some unknowns but seemed more favorable since none of us wanted to spend the last few hours of our traverse bushwhacking. Fortunately, we picked the best option as after our discussion, the route to Zoa did not involve complex problem solving. Some light bushwhacking and slight uphill (which I could hardly handle since I was extremely exhausted by then) eventually lead us to the final peak just as the sun was starting to set. It was warm and beautiful but I admit I could hardly enjoy it as my body was so tired from not only physical exhaustion but mental exhaustion as well. However, my energy picked up again as we made the fast descent down a marked trail from Zoa.
They say you get one final burst of energy right before the finish line and that is what I was definitely riding all the way down to the parking lot. Ariadna and I even raced to her van the last 10 meters and ended the long day in laughter. We were tired but elated from the day’s events. I personally could hardly believe that we achieved all five peaks in 13 hours; I was sure that we would be out there for at least 15 hours. I felt thankful to be with such a committed, confident team of people who maintained a positive attitude the entire time. The trip that day kept me on a high for days afterward and is now giving me a new drive to learn more about mountaineering and summiting more peaks.

Climate Change And The Constitution: The Case Of Juliana V. United States
By Teresa Xu, Vanderbilt University Class of 2023
May 22, 2020
Tumblr media
As the issue of climate change and its harmful effects on both the natural environment and human society gain visibility, many have advocated for changes in government regulations, laws, and policies. This concern has extended to the point thata landmark climate change lawsuit has been filed against the US federal government itself by 21youths [1].
Background
Legal action concerning climate change is not new. In the 1990s, Filipino attorney Antonio Oposa represented a suit against a government agency to defend forests from logging firms, and it was upheld by the Philippines Supreme Court, inspiring similar suits worldwide[2]. Massachusetts v. Environmental Protection Agency (2007), the first US case that made it to the Supreme Court, held that the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) was required to regulate greenhouse gases[3]. However, American Electric Power Co., Inc. v. Connecticut (2011) concluded that reduction of emissions can only be implemented under the EPA, not federal common law [4].
However, the plaintiffs assembled fifty years and 36,000 pages of evidence that US presidents and administrators have known that burning fossil fuels was causing climate change since Lyndon Johnson’s presidency[1].
History
Juliana v. US has been years in the making. It was first filed in the District Court for the District of Oregon in 2015[5]. After the lawsuit was filed, the federal government tried to have the case dismissed through various legal mechanisms, including interlocutory appeals, petitions for writ of mandamus, and requests for a stay of discovery[5]. An interlocutory appeal allows parties to appeal a case before the final judgment [6]. Writ of mandamus sues a judge for correction of an earlier mistake, typically issued when the party is blocked by rules against interlocutory appeals [7]. A stay of discovery is “a ruling by a court to stop or suspend a proceeding or trial temporarily or indefinitely” [8].
These delays persisted for years, but on February 8, 2019 the plaintiffs filed a motion for a preliminary injunction with the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals to prevent the government from approving fossil fuel production activities.[5]. A preliminary injunction may be granted before or during trial, aiming to preserve the status quo before final judgment[9]. The Ninth Circuit ultimately scheduled a hearing on the appeal on June 4, 2019, when both parties made their cases before a three-judge panel from the Ninth Circuit.
The district court concluded in support of the plaintiffs, but the court appealed to the Ninth Circuit for review[10]. On January 17, 2020, the Ninth Circuit reversed the district court’s decision, issuing an order supporting the defendants and dismissing the plaintiffs’ case.
Plaintiffs and Defendants
The plaintiffs were 21 young citizens—from 12 to 23 years of age and ten states[10]—Earth Guardians, a non-profit organization, and James Hansen, representing future generations[11]. The youth plaintiffs were recruited from environmental groups across the US by Julia Olson, an Oregon lawyer and executive director of non-profit organization Our Children’s Trust[1, 5].
The defendants were the United States and various federal agencies and administrators, including the EPA, Department of Energy, and President Donald Trump[11].
The case was presented before Mary H. Murguia and Andrew D. Hurwitz, Circuit Judges for the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, and Josephine L. Staton, District Judge for the Central District of California[11].
Complaints
The plaintiffs accused the government of encouraging fossil fuel use despite awareness of its risks, which caused climate-change related injuries to the plaintiffs, including psychological harm, impairment to recreational interests, exacerbated medical conditions, and damage to property[11]. The complaint asserts violations of rights under the Fifth Amendment, Ninth Amendment, and the public trust doctrine. The Fifth Amendment guarantees equal protection under law, and its Due Process Clause decrees that all levels of American government must operate within the law and provide fair procedures[12, 13]. The Ninth Amendment states that certain rights in the Constitution do not negate others[14]. The public trust doctrine is the principle that the government must protect and maintain natural and cultural resources that are preserved for public use[15]. The plaintiffs sought declaratory relief and an injunction for the government to implement a plan to “phase out fossil fuel emissions and draw down excess atmospheric [carbon dioxide]” [12].
The factual premises were undisputed, but the defendants argued thatthe plaintiffs’ claims must proceed under the Administrative Procedure Act (APA), and the plaintiffs lack Article III standing [11]. The APA is a federal statute stipulating how federal agencies make and enforce regulations[16]. Article III determines the US’s judicial power, and to have Article III standing, a plaintiff “must have (1) a concrete and particularized injury that (2) is caused by the challenged conduct and (3) is likely redressable by a favorable judicial decision” [11].
Conclusion
The Court rejected the defendants’ argument concerning APA, declaring that the plaintiffs did not claim that any individual agency action exceeded statutory authorization or was arbitrary [11]. However, in a 2-1 decision, the Court held the defendants’ argument concerning Article III. While the Court found that the first two requirements for Article III standing were met, the last one was not.
For the first requirement of injury, the defendants claimed concrete and particularized injuries, such as being forced to evacuate their homes. For the second requirement of causation, the Court claimed that causation can be established “even if there are multiple links in the chain,” and the plaintiffs’ causal chain was sufficiently established because of their robust evidence implicating the government in climate change damage [11].
To establish the third requirement of redressability, the plaintiffs must show that their pursued relief is both substantially likely to redress their injuries and within the district court’s power to award. The majority argued that an order simply enjoining the government’s affirmative activities will not, according to the plaintiffs’ own experts’ opinions, suffice to stop catastrophic climate change or even ameliorate their injuries—redressability was dismissed. The justiciability of the case was then denied: it was beyond the power of an Article III court to order the requested remedial plan because an effective plan would require complex policy decisions entrusted to the “political branches of government” [11]. The majority also cited Rucho v. Common Cause (2019), in which partisan gerrymandering was deemed non-justiciable, which reaffirmed the separation of powers.
The minority opinion, presented by Staton, stresses that the plaintiffs’ injury is ongoing, meaning that practical redressability is not measured by the ability to stop climate change completely and immediately undo plaintiffs’ injuries; rather, a perceptible reduction in climate change advancement is sufficient. Staton also criticizes the majority’s fixation on the separation of powers between courts and policy, emphasizing the judicial department’s duty to uphold the Constitution itself—and thus to curb acts from the political branches that breach these fundamental American tenets.
Ultimately, though, because the majority decided that only two of the three requirements for Article III standing were met, the Ninth Circuit declared this case as non-justiciable, reversed the district court’s decision, and dismissed the case.
Implications
This decision raises the question of how people can enact change—in this case, young people trying to ensure their futures are protected[10]. Correspondingly, the case raises the question of the limits of judicial processes, especially in policy and political matters—evoking the Rucho case. There is also the role of the environment in the Constitution, which is still debated, and how environmental policies can pass. Additionally, the case questions the goal of climate change mitigation actions—how do we address the overwhelming damage? What constitutes redress? These are particularly difficult questions because the situation itself evolves constantly and is uncertain.
However, there are signs that perspectives on climate change and the environment are changing. Judge Ann Aiken wrote, unprecedented for a federal judge: “Exercising my reasoned judgment, I have no doubt that the right to a climate system capable of sustaining human life is fundamental to a free and ordered society.”[1]And for the first time, the government has made “startling” admissions in accordance with scientific evidence, in writing: acknowledging climate change’s association with extreme weather and mass extinction, the importance of environmental factors in influencing human society, and the government’s own role in exacerbating environmental issues[1].Even the fact that this case went to trial despite defendants’ repeated opposition, and the divided and stated “reluctance” of the final opinion, indicates the gravity of the issue. Although this case was dismissed, the plaintiffs are asking the full Ninth Circuit to review the decision.

Welcome to a another edition of “8 Questions with…..”
Today we are headed back over the Pond to catch up with London based actress Wiktoria Wabnyc. We first met Wiktoria (pronounced “Victoria”) back in 2017 on Facebook and then when she did her first interview with me.which you can catch here. I was very impressed with how not only driven she was in pursuing her craft  but also in keeping a even keel in doing so. She had a specific plan for her career and she wasn’t afraid of hard work.    Flash forward to 2020 and I’m very pleased to see Wiktoria’s hard work is paying off.   A veteran of over 20 productions in both film and the stage,Wiktoria continues to work hard and shine in any role she is in. She has a brand new play called “Jollof Wars” which starts in Febuary and I’m sure she’ll be outstanding as the “Judge”. It looks to be great fun and just another step forward for this talented 21 year old.      So once again,we sent Wiktoria her 8 Questions and if I learned one thing from the first interview and this one……the lady loves her Piccadilly Circus!!!
We last chatted in 2017…..so what has been going on in your career since then?
Yes, thank you for having me back! For the past couple of years I’ve focused on taking different classes and learning new skills. I also worked on so many exciting projects including two feature films , 10 shorts films and 5 theatre productions! I also started writing my own short film which I can’t wait to produce!
How has the British film industry changed during the past few years?  Has it become easier for actors to get roles or harder?
As the industry shifted to a more digital based. It became easier for casting directors to see more people for each role. Now this has definitely increased the competition for the role as now larger volume of actors can apply and audition for the same character. However, on the other side it gives you the opportunity to audition for roles that you might not have been able to do so previously for obvious reasons. I also feel like now the industry is slowly opening up and we see more diversity on screen. Where in the past, if you haven’t attended one of the top 5  drama schools you wouldn’t even be considered for a role. Leaving the industry to be upper-class centric.
I understand you are doing a theater play called “Jollof Wars”? What can you tell about your involvement in this play? When and where does it open? Is this your first theater project?
Jollof Wars is a family friendly comedy written by Gail Egbeson, directed by Lucy Dear and produced by Purple Moon Drama. Jollof Wars is about a young couple, who are unable to agree on which jollof rice should be served at their wedding. The couple takes the matter into court in hopes that the Judge will be able to  end their cultural disagreement. In Jollof Wars, I play the role of the Judge who tries to resolve the issue and make both parties happy. Jollof Wars, has been previously performed at the Theatre Peckham, Poplar Union and is now opening for the VAULTs festival on the 14th February 2020-16th February 2020 at the Network Theatre.
The tickets are on sale now: https://vaultfestival.com/whats-on/jollof-wars/
Since I started acting 4 years ago, I had the opportunity to act in over 20 productions including leading a feature film/short films, webseries and theatre.  In the past, I had the opportunity to work with Purple Moon Drama on ‘Noughts and Crosses’ written by Malorie Blackman at the Brady Art Theatre and Rich Mix. I also performed as a lead chorus in Antigone, a Greek tragedy directed by George Eugeniou at Theatro Technis and worked with Victor Sobchak on Anna Karenina.
What drew you to doing this play?
I saw this play as an opportunity to learn more about the African culture, dances and traditions. I think as an actor it is so important to learn about other cultures and listen to different stories people have to offer. In the play we share an important story of marrying outside your culture and the challenges that it may impose onto your relationship.
What three aspects about your acting have you improved on the most since we last chatted?
Definitely improvisation, when I first started acting 4 years ago I was afraid of not being able to come up with dialogue on the spot. Now I can’t imagine working on any script without doing a bit of improvisation in character first. Second aspect that I’ve improved on is my listening skills. Acting is all about reacting but you can’t react to something you haven’t listened to. Thirdly, getting out of my comfort zone. I am not afraid to try something ‘silly’ and embarrass myself in front of my cast mates but I take it as an opportunity to push myself further and try something new.
Has living in London opened many more doors for you career wise?
Living in London definitely helps when you’re an actor, just because you have everything within reach. For example, the best acting classes, great headshot photographers and the majority of casting head offices are based in London.  I don’t think it’s essential to live in London to become a working actor, but it definitely helps when you live close by. Especially when you have last minute auditions to get to. I would say yes, living in London has open doors for me especially when someone had dropped out last minute from a production and I got called in to replace them on the day. Living in London made it easier to get there as fast as possible.
What are three things you would have told your younger self differently?
Learn to say no more often
Put yourself before others, you can’t help others if you’re not okay yourself.
Learn to love yourself because if you want to achieve anything, you need  to be confident and believe in yourself.
How important has networking become to  artists? Do you feel social media support groups help or hinder artists?
Networking is essential as an actor. If you’re not networking as an actor – WHY NOT? Majority of my roles resulted from attending film festivals and meeting film directors who would then invite me to audition for the roles in their films. I think if you know how to use social media to your advantage , it’s a great tool to promote your projects and also network with other creatives.
What do you do for fun and recreation? Do you have any hobbies that you enjoy?
In my free time I love to travel solo. I travelled to Vietnam last year, to teach English and it was the most incredible experience of my life. It made me appreciate what I have and I got to meet so many people from different backgrounds/cultures and just get to know them a little bit more. My hobbies vary from exploring different countries (travelling) to reading books and doing unhealthy amount of online courses.
The cheetah and I are flying over to watch your latest film but we are a day early and now you are playing tour guide, what are we doing?
Okay so anyone who is planning on visiting London HAS to visit the Camden food market. Camden Town is a unique artistic place where no one is ashamed to be themselves. It’s colourful and always has a good atmosphere! Camden Market has over 1000 stalls selling fashion, music , art and FOOD! There’s definitely something for everyone! Another place would be visiting Southwark, near the National Youth Theatre and Royal Festival Hall. Not only is it a beautiful scenery, with the walk alongside the river, but it’s the perfect spot to sit down and observe London. My ultimate favourite place in London is the Piccadilly Circus. It’s a very busy, touristic place, but you can enjoy a great amount of street entertainment from new up coming artists. It never fails to keep me inspired!
I like to thank Wiktoria for letting us have a chance for a catch up. It’s very clear that her hard work is indeed paying off and we wish her the very best in the upcoming “Jollof Wars” and in her future projects!!
Wiktoria has her social media going in the right direction as well…..
