I feel like I should write this super eloquent answer about what’s happening with the haters nowadays but the main thing I have on my mind is:

“Why so mad bro”

This is basically them:

They only believe MS/AL and DT/GT is a real thing. If you point out anything off about the relationships or criticise one of the women and explain why - you are a sexist.

It doesn’t matter what you say, the moment you criticise - you’re a sexist. It’s just wrong to dislike the two women. You can’t do that, according to them. (You can spew hatred about other women on tumblr though, according to haters).

You can criticise the men, of course, just not their female partners.

Anything to do with MS/DT - a joke. Neil says they are in love? It’s a joke. Michael says he loves David? A joke/he means that platonically. Michael calls David his partner? A joke/platonically. There is an excuse for everything they say. Because they simply cannot be together. They can’t actually be in romantic love. PR? No such thing. Everything celebrities say is the utmost truth - UNLESS a man says anything romantic about another man - then it’s a joke.

It’s the hypocrisy that’s funny. They need to reduce everything they do not like to a joke and yet we are the tinhatters because when Michael says David is his partner and he loves him, and Neil says these two are in love - we say we believe them. So we are meant to believe what they say - but only the part about their female partners. A little selective when it suits them, aren’t they?

This group also rage/hate reads what people they disagree with write. They’re obsessed. They create new accounts when you block them to still have ability to view what you write. They send anon hate. They send “bait” anon hoping for you to give them material to hate over. They copy what we write to send to each other and publish on their blogs to spew venom all over it, and if your words are not “hate-worth” enough, they will twist your words so the hatred grows even more and of course select bits and pieces to share for best effect even if it changes what you said because if loses context. And then they pat each other on the back because they’re just such fantastic good human beings and fans. They believe they have the higher moral ground behaving like this.

Meanwhile you have shippers, not sending hate, not forcing their opinions on anyone, I personally stopped my posts from being rebloggable so they wouldn’t leave this blog (which haters have no respect for either), even keep my posts out of tags and from the beginning told people they can block my tags to never see what I write or just block the blog, I blocked haters before they blocked me, I always open posts for discussions because I don’t say my opinion is the only right one, and I say when I don’t know things, or I am not sure, or that I might be wrong, or I changed my mind - but it’s me who’s the Devil! Not them going after me and others now and working extra hard to see what I write just to spit venom about it.

Because only their story is right and everyone who believes them is right and everyone else is a sexist tinhatter who deserves hate and humiliation.

But what’s new? When fandoms didn’t have sheep behaviour? When fandoms didn’t have groups of people only out there to spew hate about anyone who thought differently? When these people didn’t reduce people who thought differently to “tinhatters” and *insert other insults* and tried to humiliate them into silence and oh there’s only like ten shippers anyway - who cares - oh, well, apparently YOU CARE haters. Maybe you should ask yourself why it bothers you so much that more and more people speak up if it’s apparently all just wrong so who cares. And yet you do. Maybe you should ask yourself why you want to ship but you cover yourself with “it’s just a joke and shippers are sick” because you’re scared of the people you associate with.

It’s always been like this. That’s the world we live in.

Maybe they should find better things to masturbate to but I’m glad my content is that good.

I think Dana explained the betas though, it was the characters in a much different, heavier and darker story, that probably would have leaned more into the idea of witches and… well hell. Since Hieronymus Bosch drew lots of purgatory images. But you cant really do that for Disney. Plus to be fair, you’re meant to be able to throw ideas at a wall (even if they are very unlikely to work) for concept art and then be willing to immediately dump stuff and try new ideas without getting attached.

Side note, while the big selling point for the Betas is that they are edgy or can be used to explore darker subjects, people sometimes just make them borderline evil, or just… actual evil, did you know its very easy to find beta fics tagged with non con and/or underage? Yea. They make Willow actively hateful and sadistic or make the Lumity ship a copy paste of Catradora, aka have them beat the life out of each other but then say uwu owo its not toxic, they love each other.

(seriously i cannot take ship discourse in fandoms seriously, they'll say one ship is toxic or problematic and turn around and ship the same thing but worse.)

For the first point... You're absolutely right. I should not judge for someone exploring different possibilities in concept art because I have no idea when in production that art was made or what the idea for the show was at the time. A LOT of things go through a half a dozen rewrites before the public ever sees them. Frozen apparently came down to the wire for its final plot and it's a miracle we got what we did at all. And even then, I think that movie is still a bit of a mess at times.

Also, fun fact, I have considered an Owl House AU where Luz went to hell instead. In that, Eda would be a demon looking for redemption and her only real ally, but also the only one trying to be real with her so Luz keeps thinking the demons who want to manipulate her are the ones to trust. Amity would have also been an angel undercover and supposed to be giving reports to god about the comatose child who's soul went to hell for some reason when the worst she deserves is Limbo. I could do a concept pitch blog for it but *shrug*

So I think it's personally wrong to conflate canon material with fan material and what is being criticized. Fanworks and the like are one of the safest places to explore different topics or express pain and the like you've had. It also only commonly has one or two eyes on it to say something might be toxic while media on tv usually has a few dozen and the fact that no one catches the red flags is... questionable. Especially why those red flags exist.

(As a note: I can't weigh in on if Catradora is toxic or not because I have watched only one episode of that show. Not even the first. I really ought to though since it seems up my alley.)

WITH THAT SAID, fanfiction authors aren't exactly going to always be respectful about such topics and the like and it took the majority of a year for anyone to tell me people used the Betas for more than murderous, drug addicted psycopaths. Even those people praised a story for having the two get into random fist fights with strangers in a Denny's parking lot so... Yeah. I'm not going to say the characterization of the Betas in the fandom is the best, or their use for that matter.

With all that said, I feel like the nicer Amity has become, and the more the two have come closer and closer to their Beta designs, the less I see of the Betas. Even now, I see lot less blood smears and sadistic grins and a lot more "It's just a normal Lumity picture except a different design." These aren't criticisms really but more just me ruminating on the fact that I think the fandom lost a lot of people who liked the edgier possibilities because of how poorly the show handled its own edge.

As for me as a content creator, have I ever considered using the Betas? I mean, I have for a one off or two, notably a one off where Luz is a dragon and Amity the willing sacrifice to her, but a one off can be hard to capture anything really interesting about them. I'd say I've only had one idea where I maybe wanted to use the Betas and that idea is a Noir Mystery? (It's complicated) story where Amity is a brothel owner in part to make her mom mad, Boscha is both bouncer and stripper for said brothel and dating Amity and Luz is a detective but not super gritty or the like. More Columbo (from what I hear, haven't seen it myself) than normal pulpy fiction Noir types. Also her detective style would lean a lot more into reading people and connections than forensics.

Another story I could do a concept pitch blog for since god only knows when or if I'll ever get to it. That idea is WAY more fleshed out than the going to hell one though.

But yeah, the betas are fine in my opinion to exist and mostly fine in how the fandom uses them because... I mean, if you don't like what they're being used for, just don't consume it. It's not necessary AT ALL to be a part of the fandom and I think a lot of fandoms really need to learn to chill about content creators creating content they don't like.

I don't think people realize the sorts of spaces they're creating within their own fandom because of that or the damage to their show's popularity either. It's a complicated topic and one I've had to give a lot of thought as, well... Ex-erotica writer, remember? And I've still done one erotic story for TOH too, even if it's aged up.

Mike aka captainpoe is talking shit about me so let me get things straight.

He’s gonna do screenshots of what will makes him look like the victim, like he always does so you will have to believe me on my words (since I coun’t found our conversations by pm) but most people who know me or I've been following me for a long time know that I usually stay out of the drama. Big thanks to my friends for telling me what he was doing behind my back like the adult he is.

3 years ago Mike started following me, I was back then a small blog and I thought “wow a big blog is following me!”

He started to talk me and really fast told me to send him my edits by messages and I did! he also reblogged me on his mcu blog (and his sw blog too... I think).

I was really stressed with a big exam around July and I became obsess with EVERYTHING, I was a true pain in the ass to everyone. I’m not gonna lie. So yeah I also became obsess with my Tumblr notes, I did gifs to relax but it was not working very well back then. my behavior was childish and I apologized to him after!

(He accused me of wanting to be reblogged on his sideblogs, it’s true, but it’s natural to me to reblog everything that people send me or tag me in on my sideblogs, I sincerely don’t understand people problem with reblogging on sideblogs things ).

When he got harassed on here, more like called out (it was actually around the same time I was a dick) he asked me to take his defense and to reblog a post he made, he was basically whining about how he was the victim and never harassed anyone, he sent me messaged telling me that he was a married man in florida and never did anything against the once upon a time fandom, wasn’t homophobic and meh meh meh... Back then I believed him because he was the nice guy who was helping me getting notes in the MCU fandom. He used me, after talking to other members I realized that I wasn’t alone.

I WANT TO APOLOGIES TO THE POEPLE I DIDN’T BELIEVED BACK THEN. I KNOW WHO HE IS NOW.

He started being aggressive but nothing worriedly when TLJ came around, it was a real little thing but I wasn't shipping Rey x poe and I felt like it was problem for him that I wasn’t shipping them. I didn't thought too much about it but still, it left a bad taste in my mouth, I wasn’t talking a lot to him after that.

When I had problems and got hate on my blog he didn't do shit to help me.

I was still sending me my edits because... Notes. I can’t lie about that, like every creators here I want my edits to get notes.

I think we haven’t talked for a verrrry long time, I was sending my edits that’s it.

Last year he asked me to join my GOT blog, after all the reblog he did for me I thought It would be really bitchy to me to not add him as a member. But I also noted that it was funny how he joined both the B99 and the GOT fandom once he realized that it was very popular.

He did edits on the blog so no problem at all, until s8 ended. I’m like everybody, I hated that season but when someone join my sideblogs, especially my got one, I am very clear about the no hate rule (I had problems with that on this blog before). But he thought that since he was popular he could do what he wanted, I deleted the two first he reblogged, one of them was calling people to harass D&D and I hate what they did but as someone who has been victim of bullying at school and still suffer from that I was disgusted by what he posted but I haven’t told him anything since he’s really popular and I didn’t want to create any drama... I have a life so I finally forgot about it.

My laptop broke and gosh, I really understood who he was at that moment! I sent a messages to all the members of my sideblogs asking them to keep the blogs active while I can’t, normal stuff for an admin. I had my tablet with no photoshop... spidey got “fired” and like a lot of other people I thought about that scene in iw where Tony told him “you’re an avenger now”, lucky me I have already made that gifset before so I took my tablet and just reposted my own gifset, it took me so long because I had to convert it back to gif format because of Tumblr... Anyway, later he sent me a message accusing me of having copied him and I haven’t seen his gifset so told him exactly that. He then accused me of doing that ALL THE TIME with endgame and I told him “listen bro we’re both using the same 30 seconds YouTube clips that marvel gave us”, like 20 other people (they were not a lot of people because that channel was weirdly unknown), it’s true that I was doing them after him but it’s just because I have a life and cannot always do gif, I make them when I have time. He also basically told me that I must be rich for having replaced my laptop that fast, I haven’t, I was using my tablet but even if I did replace my laptop, mêle toi de ton cul ( I have no English expression coming to me ).

I really understood who he was then.

He totally stopped making edits for my got blog, because it stopped trending so it wasn’t interesting him anymore.

a few months past and I think the only thing he told me is that he was scared of clowns... Literally.

And then the BIG ONE, I know he was a douche but omg. Mike asked me to reblog ALL his posts on a sideblog I'm only a member of. He told me that the admin have blocked him because she was shipping reylo and well reylos hate him because he’s posting shit on them , they were a huge misunderstanding then (because i’m French and I may not have explained myself right) , I told him that I wouldn’t reblog him if the admin didn’t want to see his posts on the blog, he was blocked! and I was, at the same time, talking to another member of this blog who is a close friend of the admin and she agreed with me. he was very insisting and I told him that the admin was checking what we add to the queue and would certainly delete his posts, it was the big misunderstanding that could have hurt the admin of the blog, I just meant I know she checks what’s happening because she told me when I don’t tag a post with the right tags, it’s just what a good admin (unlike myself) does. I also told him that it was a new blog with “only” 14k followers, he must have something like 50K followers sooooo, and that his edits were getting 100K notes, more than anybody here. He became... I have no words to describe that. He told me that it was a dictatorship if I couldn’t reblog what I wanted, and that I should leave the blog, I stopped answering pretty fast after that.

In our last conversation I was vulgar. (it’s in the post he sent to my friends), he really need to get over it, I’m French and from Normandie : I am vulgar! wtf. It’s also the last thing he ever posted on my game of thrones blog. It was a Sunday either two days after after the last star wars movie came out or ten days ( I don’t remember if he waited a week or not) but he reblogged a text post from his blog sending hate toward the writers of both got and sw and spoiled the entire Star Wars movie on my game of thrones blog, which was “the drop of water that caused the vase to bleed” like annoy me all you want but when people goes on my got blog they don’t want to be spoiled, it was so rude and mean and that post had nothing to do there and it was at least the third time so I told him to “fucking stop” and since mr thinks he is the king he went all “you can’t talk to me like that” “I'm an adult” meh meh meh. I told him to never go in France ‘cause he wouldn't like us. And it was the last time we spoke. Nothing to do directly with me but I would never do what he does to get notes, that man he’s ready to use any big events such as pride or women’s day to get notes. I do make edits for those events too but I'm actually a bisexual woman and not an heterosexual man and I really don’t think he’s doing those edits to show his support to those movements but just to get notes, this year he did the same thing with blm movement I thought it was disrespectful at best, he even made the famous “I we burn you burn with us” gifset from the movie and no, just stop dude. Making that gifset of Naya before she was even found was awful, a lot of people are doing gifs to feel better about things but I don’t think it would have came to anybody else mind to have it ready in their draft. It actually make me think of myself because after they died I made a gifset of Carrie Fisher and Stan Lee and in my head it was a tribute but now that I think back about it I wouldn’t make gifset when people dies anymore, I said it once again but in my head it was a tribute to those wonderful people life and work. I did to feel people and myself a little better in those situations but it didn’t makes me feel better. I thought about it even more, especially for Carrie, because I couldn’t stop thinking about Billie and losing my mom is the worst thing that could happen to me. You can say that, at the end, Mike makes me realize something.

He has been calling out for his behavior but instead of facing it like an adult he just want to take people down instead of him, I'm one of them and I certainly won’t be the only one. it’s someone who doesn’t know how to face the consequences of his behavior and still think he’s untouchable, me and one of my friend said that he thought he was the king of Tumblr and I sincerely think that in his head he is.

Merlin is not a compulsive tweeter. Oh, he likes to share his snarkiness with the world now and then, but he dislikes the length limitations of this social, so he usually hangs around his own site, where he can write long articles or uncensored rants about whatever fancies - or angers - him. The profile was mostly a mean for him to update his readers whenever he wrote a new post at his blog or when he signed up to an event but, after Arthur's return and his consequent joining of social media, it has turned into Merlin's place to publicly tease his king.

About the AU It's the 21th century like we know it, but magic is widely spread and has long since become part of everyday life. The legend of the Once and Future King is real and the people of England are eagerly awaiting for his return. Officially Merlin (with the appearance of Dragoon the Great) is known to hide somewhere and it's said that he will reveal himself when his king will be back; for now Merlin lives his life as the young Professor Gaius de Bois, teaching Medieval History at the University of Avalon and being a renowned historian for his expertise in the Matter of Britain. When Arthur finally emerges from the Lake of Avalon, he can live his new modern life without changing name nor hiding his true identity, while Merlin returns and keeps his two identities: the official old warlock and the young Professor, claiming that the young Gaius is his nephew. Although the fact they are lovers is just a rumor, and they've never given any hint that the rumor is true, Arthur and Merlin are in a romantic relationship so they do share the royal bed. Intrigued by the fact people had told his story, Arthur - without a kingdom to rule and generally something to do with his time - embarks on the quest to read all books and see all movies and shows about him, to either laugh or wonder what exactly Merlin had done in all these centuries when people twisted the true story about Camelot into something that has little to do with the original. He eventually discovers social media and becomes pretty much addicted to it. He will go down the Hell path when he will eventually sign up to Tumblr, but that's another story for another graphic...

The Chronicles of Camelot is a series of six book covers (front + back + flaps) I created and published in early 2017 but then retired a year later when I decided I needed to change the subject (and story extract on the flap) of one. I'm still trying to write the scene I need for the story extract of said book, so that I can re-post the first series, which you can see in the first line of the pic. And the second series/sequel is on the works (all graphics ready, just missing the content of the flaps). I was on a roll when I wrote all the text for the six covers back then and I cannot seem to get into the proper mood again. The series was meant to be Merlin's official tale on Camelot, from which the authors of the BBC series started to write the tv show. "Hakka/Prue84", my signature, was used as the fake name of the publisher. The link is the one for the specific tag of the series on my Tumblr so yes, it actually is (was) a working url.

The Pickled cabbage leaves jars were sold in the supermarket I buy groceries at in November (2019) and I couldn't stop giggle. There wouldn't be much to giggle about, but in Italy you seldom find labels in other languages, and as soon as I noticed the "cabbage"... *chuckles* let's just say I couldn't stop my hand from reaching out the phone and snapping a photo.

Your Improvements Answered!

Hey! I’ve seen some great ideas in the improvements section of the feedback form, so I’d just like to go through and respond to some of them!

Under a readmore because my answers are quite long haha

Some fanfics were WIP (which isn't a problem) but weren't updated for years! I don't really see the point of submitting these fics if it's abandonned...

Not alphabetical order. I know abo is popular, but it's always first. Also may 1st is my birthday. I personally can't stand that trope 😂 also the wip... Always get scared the author will not complete it.

This is a very good point, and not something I thought to check out. I don’t want to remove WIPs from the collection as I know a lot of people who love reading WIPs and the authors of those deserve the promotion too. However, I will likely change the rules surrounding updating somehow. As for alphabetical order: It’s the most intuitive way to list them, and I have no control over A/B/O being the first trope alphabetically, or the fact that it gets voted for every year. :)

The banner/photo at the top of each post took up a little too much space, maybe if it was a little bit smaller it could load better on my device.

The banner size I use, 540x300 is pretty much the “standard” banner size which is found across tumblr and many of the other challenges I’ve hosted and co-hosted in the past. This is unlikely to change, and I’m sorry they don’t load correctly on your device :(

It was hard to go back and find posts. I’d love the posts to have a cut so there was less scrolling needed. Or maybe an easy-to-find masterpost?

Some posts were a bit long (maybe some tropes could be split into two posts?)

As you’ve probably seen, the masterpost has now been posted as it has every 1st June after the collection has finished posting! Find past masterlists here. In regards to finding it hard to go back and find posts, I tag everything so that it’s super easy to find from the blog. the #destiel trope collection 2020 tag will show you all the posts from this year, once (the other posts were tagged as signal boost). I also tag the trope as well so it can be searched for via that, and the trope names which are in more than one year are the same too :) I’m wary about putting the posts under a readmore, as I don’t want just a few fics to show and not others, nor do I want no fics at all showing, so this is unlikely to change. Splitting the posts in two also wouldn’t work, or at least it would shorten the amount of tropes available for the month. It’s hard to guarantee which posts will have lots and which won’t have as many.

Was/can the master post be available at the beginning of the month? , pin the master post on the blog

I will be pinning the masterlist at some point, but for now, the feedback form is pinned for at least another week or so, it’s important to me to find out what I can do to make this better :D The masterlist cannot be available at the beginning of the month as I won’t have all the links available to fill it. It also takes the joy away from posting one trope a day for the month.

Some authors are repeated more than two times in some tropes

Firstly, this is allowed, authors were allowed up to 4 fics in one trope. However, next year this will be rectified properly. It is currently a “loose rule” where I suggest no more that 4 entries into one trope by one author. Next year I will make the rule a definite, and instead of chasing people up about which fics they’d like to keep, I will choose the first 3 or 4 (depending on what I decide) that they entered into the trope :) I apologise that it was a bit confusing this year, I’ll try to make any and all rules clear and concise.

I wish the lists were bigger!

Me too! Unfortunately I can only advertise it so much, and greatly rely on everyone else reblogging it, telling their destiel writing friends and getting them to submit their fics. The number of fics has gone up each year (this year was pretty similar to last year). The first collection in 2017 had 213 fics, so this year more than double it!

the way a fic had to be submitted

The submission form for submitting a fic. It took me a lot longer because I had to bounce arround to transfer things from AO3 onto the form, if everything on the form was in order of how it's listed on AO3 it would make submitting a lot faster.

The first year I did this, I asked people to submit their fics via the blog (well it was my fandom blog at the time before this official blog was born). That was honestly chaos, I set out a list of what I needed from people in the order I needed it in and it was largely ignored :/ and it meant I had to copy and paste everything by hand, one fic at a time. I then used an online form as this allowed me to collect the data and change it into what I needed on another document, however, I still had to copy and paste each one separately (that’s a lot of work when I have 450+ fics being submitted). This year I was able to get help with an even more time saving way which meant I could use the google sheets view that was produced by the form to change it into HTML and I could then filter by trope and highlight all the fics in one go. You can get all of the information you need just from your works page on AO3 (and not everyone posts from AO3 also), so there’s not that much jumping around being done. I will look into it more thoroughly and see if there’s an easier order.

It would be awesome if you would reblog the older collections while the new one is being published, so we can see the differences, like 2017 friends to lovers and 2020 friends to lovers. Also, I would really like to see more of the trope collection during its hiatus. You could queue the masterlists to be rebloged once a month or something

It’s a great idea in theory, but the posts differ from year to year, and I feel some would be lost and forgotten. I do like the idea of reblogging the masterlist once a month until next year! That’s a great idea :D I think I will also reblog some of the of the older posts/masterlists in that time as well!

Hi Skyeward Tag

So, like, it is a unique kind of hell to finally come to peace with how much I love SkyeWard after three years of running from some sad emotions and weird Fandom Politics(TM). It’s also sort of tricky because while AOS is still ongoing, the initial fervor for SkyeWard seemed pretty effectively squashed among people I followed for AOS back in, like, S2. Recently, my best friend and some nostalgia have dragged me down a rabbit hole, and I am really enjoying myself while hating it. It kind of seems like SkyeWard fandom never died but that it sort of went underground, but upon learning that the Framework arc was even a thing I decided I needed to rewatch AOS and suffer so that I can eventually see this and also suffer.

I’m making this post in an effort to create a sort of follower train thing for those of us who are still around and want people to tag. It sucks getting really into something and finding yourself in an empty echo chamber, and I’ve seen @celticheartedfangirl making her posts about watching Agents of SHIELD unspoiled for the first time and maybe being interested in the ship. I wondered if maybe some others could rally out of the woodwork so that we can hang out and tag each other in things. Networks are also so 2014 but this is just an informal follower train thing if anyone will pick it up to help gain traction. Below I’m gonna put a little form for myself, and you can reblog the post and copy/paste/edit it to your liking so that we can make acquaintance for the purposes of tagging whether or not we follow-back.

Agents of SHIELD

I have seen through: I think I stopped watching actively toward the end of Season 2. I was sad about some of the narrative decisions being made in the show, and I was just exhausted by the shifts in several fandom climates of the time. I always meant to go back to it, but then I would get discouraged. However, recently realizations about my own likes and dislikes, nostalgia, and my best friend watching the series again have drawn me back in. I want to see the Framework arc, and I watched the first episode of Season 5 on a whim with my best friend.

Favorite Character Other than Skye|Daisy or Ward: Probably Jemma.

Other Ships: FitzSimmons. I am passively interested in Coulson/May. Skimmons from time to time. I used to kind of ship Skye and Mike Peterson because Skye would have been the greatest step-mom in the world and J. August Richards is attractive, but SkyeWard is my favorite ship for her.

A favorite moment/episode: I am chomping at the bit to watch the Framework arc. Honestly, the Captain America: The Winter Soldier tie-in arc is still amazing to me even if I’m disappointed about the way canon followed it up with regard to these two characters. It’s so well-acted and interesting. I also had somehow never scene 1x03 before and I think the part where Ward is teaching Skye to take a gun from someone is hilarious. “I’m a proper southern girl...” Please help.

Anything else: I’m a big fan of both canon-compliance and canon-divergent AUs. I occasionally produce fanwork and feel the itch that I might for this ship when I cautiously avoided it in the past.

Doctor Who - I’m always into it. I haven’t quite finished every episode in the middle of S10 because I was in grad school when it was airing, so the lack of Bill content is not a lack of love, it’s a lack of knowing her as well as the others. I love all the companions a lot; you’ll never see companion-hate from me ever unless Thirteen’s companion is a jackwagon. Clara is my favorite because she is a small, bisexual, brunette teacher like me; she is my best self and bitter I cannot be her. I also like Thoschei/Twissy stuff and well honestly most things.

Shadowhunters - Maybe? Honestly this fifth spot is a toss-up and I provided it for clarity. I blog about a ton of other fandoms in a wild smattering, but I might do this one slightly more than the rest. I don’t care about Cassan/dra Cl/are except the fanlore.

After speaking with some people privately, I had been under the impression that I had been doing a good enough job keeping my head down, minding my own business, and not making a fuss, but it’s evident that this is not the case. I have been back in the community for about a year now as Elle, and since then I have made every effort to use this new alias as an opportunity to turn over a new leaf, make a new start, and be an unobtrusive and altogether quiet presence in the community. I came back simply to write – not to make a fuss or make waves, and I was open and honest about my identity and my past mistakes with those who came to me to ask, and have a small group of people who know that I am Beth, who have known for quite some time now. It was not my intention to “fool” anyone by returning under a different alias, but to exercise the change that I’d implemented in my own life and to show both myself and those who I’d so horribly hurt in the past that I have changed, and that it is possible for people to change for the better. I think the fact that I’ve flown under the radar until now is decent proof that I am not the person I was a year ago; a year ago, I would have gone absolutely nuts in the face of the PSA that’s floating around, and I would have lashed out with irreparable damage – we all saw it happen last time, and it’s because of that that I was so determined not to do it this time. I understand completely why people would not want to be close to me given what I’ve done in the past; I lied, I talked about people behind their back, I pretended to be someone else to hide from what I’d done, I spread slanderous lies about someone who had been nothing but a dear friend to me, and I kept that same friend’s group from receiving the love and praise it deserved simply because I was bitter, paranoid, and malicious in my mindset. I was in a horrid place and going through a downward spiral in which I could not recover from – and though I knew I could not recover, I lashed out and pulled people down with me simply because it was the only option my toxic mindset gave me. I wrecked people who I’d considered family, who’d followed me through hell, high water, and two roleplay groups which ended with my complete meltdown. It was all building up from mistakes I’d made, even before that – in 2013, I copied things from a drabble someone had written; in 2015, I encouraged a friend to write a PSA about another friend simply because I felt that they were drifting from me, and I was so selfish and paranoid that I just couldn’t handle it. I was immature, and felt as if I didn’t have to own up to my mistakes, but as I see the error of hiding from this all and hoping that it’ll just blow over, I think that it’s time for me to put it out there. I was Wesley, I was Beth, and this blog was supposed to be Elle – the new leaf. Elle would never start a positivity blog, only to filter the messages; Elle would never send nasty messages; Elle would never vague blog; Elle would never strongarm someone out of playing the same character; and Elle would certainly never steal, though Beth once thought she could get away with it, and owned up to it.

In my personal life, the last semester has been an absolute trainwreck, and this blog, in my own corner with a small collective of people who I’d told, and in the roleplay groups that I’d chosen to join, was an oasis, and I am incredibly proud of the progress and of the changes that I’ve made in my life, as reflected by my unobtrusive and quiet presence in the RPC. I’ve done my best to be nothing but positive – and those who I’ve found myself close to can attest to that. I never thought of this attempt at a positive new start as an attempt to “trick” anyone with friendship and kindness, and I am so sorry that it’s come across as that, or as anything even remotely underhanded. I hoped that by being Elle and by starting over I could somewhat start to make right the wrong I’d done when I was Beth, and by being kind to those I’d wronged in any way I could, I thought that I was. I never intended for any of this to become a question of lies, victim shaming, or anything of the sort – I was just trying to keep my head down, and mind my own business. I’d even become close friends with one of the people I’d wronged in the past, proving to them that I’d changed before they even knew who I was, and I spoke to another, leaving things on what I assumed was a peaceful note. Perhaps it was a mistake to apply for a character that I’d played so often while I was using my old alias – but I never thought that it would start the wildfire that it did, since I’d been nothing but supportive in doing it. If anyone would like to message me privately, and not anonymously, to discuss the things that I have done, I would be more than willing to do so openly and frankly at my new url, which was created not to hide but to post fandom content rather than rp content without clogging up anyone’s dash.

I do, however, wish to address the claims of plagiarism that have been floating around, as this may be the only chance I have to do so. I understand that everyone’s concerns have merit; I have been a horribly sketchy person in the past, but the claims that are going around now are ones I hold issue with, and I’d like to address them here. Firstly, I’ll start with the claim that I plagiarized an OC from the group I used to run, Fidite Nemini. The character in question is named Holly – I don’t even remember the OC’s last name. A wonderful OC, written by a wonderful person; perhaps the best OC I ever had the pleasure of writing with. But the fact that I also have two characters named Holly is now being called plagiarism, and with this I take issue. First, I have Holly Blanchard, named as such for Holly Golightly. I’ll link her biography HERE. Second is a character in another roleplay that I ran named Holly Gilmore, who was named as such for the plant reference, and because I was going through a heavy Gilmore Girls phase at the time of writing her. Her bio is HERE. I cannot link you to the bio of the OC simply because I deleted the Fidite Nemini main and have no way of finding it. I don’t know where it is, I don’t know what her last name is; the only similarities between these characters is the fact that they’re named Holly and that they’re generally nice, sweet people. I can see how, upon first glance, having a character named Holly might raise some eyebrows, but upon actually reading the bios, it is quite clear that there is no other overlap.

I was also accused of stealing things from the person who played Bellatrix in my group – I cannot link anything here since the Fidite Nemini main has been deleted, but I used, in applying for a Marauders group recently, the bio that I, as an admin, had written as a jumping off point for an application. I’d gone through the old player’s blog to find the biography that I’d written since the main was deleted and I hadn’t saved anything for my own use, and I understand how that must have looked, but had I not deleted everything I could when I left Tumblr the first time. I’d be happy to dig through my google docs and link the application that I’d written up in this post, but I regrettably cannot access the Fidite Nemini bio anymore, or I would. The person who played Bellatrix at Fidite Nemini is, without question, one of the greatest writers I’ve ever had the pleasure of collaborating with, and I must say that it would be very obvious had I stolen from them, as their writing truly stands alone.

I would now like to address the claims that I stole a fair bit of characterization from the user who wrote the PSA about me. I’ll start by saying that yes, I did pin a few of their pins on Pinterest (but I went to a lot of Pinterest boards to create my own), and we have reblogged some of the same things – were I to remain a large presence in the RPC, I would make a point not to reblog musing from anywhere but inspo blogs to avoid this. But I must raise some issue with the claim that I stole a headcanon about sunflowers, a headcanon about running/athleticism, and a FC. I use flower symbolism in a fair number of my applications and characters, and this particular headcanon was written when I read the ProFlowers description of what sunflowers meant (in fact, at the time I was buying flowers for my grandmother, whose birthday I had forgotten, and thought sunflowers might be nice according to the description). I’ll link the headcanon HEREas it includes a link to the article. The running/athleticism headcanon is twofold – the graphic linked HERE is from a quiz which many people in the tag were using, and was therefore not my own doing. But I had put some stock in the character’s athleticism, since it’s both canon that she’d have to be athletic, and because the character is suffering, in the plot, from severe PTSD. It is often recommended to sufferers of PTSD, like myself, and like my combat veteran father, to put much of their anxiety into athleticism, as linked in the headcanon HERE. I put a lot of myself into my characters, and I thought that, as I am dealing with my own battle with PTSD, it would be appropriate to make a point of expanding upon it in the development of a character who very clearly has it. This is not copied and pasted from any blog, nor was it written in an attempt to mimic anyone else’s portrayal. And to insinuate that I am stealing simply because there is overlap in the usage of two face claims is also up for question – I will admit that I did take an interest in Lindsey Morgan as the character because the author of the PSA used her, and I commend you for your excellent FC choice. But the second mentioned, Deborah Ann Woll, is merely a coincidence, and I must take issue with the idea that face claims are exclusive.

In the PSA, it linked things from my old Alice blog that I’d recycled because I am who you all now know I am – were I trying to hide, I wouldn’t have done that. I’d have never been so obvious. I was too optimistic, I suppose, in that I’d kept my head down enough to play this character again, and I truly am so sorry for making you all uncomfortable, and for making you all feel as if I was trying to be devious by going under another alias. All I was doing was trying to mind my own business – and that is what I’m doing now, by turning my writing blog into a simple fandom blog. I’m even further in my corner now, and though I have no intention of leaving my corner, I thought it appropriate to leave this here as both an admittance of everything I’ve done, and a defense of the new character that I’ve built for myself. I understand that the PSA was made to warn people about someone horrible – but I’m not that person anymore. I have nothing but remorse for what I’ve done to those I’ve hurt, and I will never stop regretting the friendships that I destroyed. I considered so many of you my family, and I hurt you. It’s irreparable, and I will never ever stop trying to be a better person because of it. All I wanted was to turn over a new leaf, and to have fun writing with those I could reconnect with, and I apologize from the bottom of my heart for drudging up old hurts. I never want to hurt any of you again, and I never plan to. If anyone wishes to come talk to me about this, so I can explain and own up further, or if you would like a direct apology, I’m now at arhwen. I hope you’re all well, and finish out 2017 well, too.
