fuckass book u say… what goes on…

hii abby i don’t even think you’ve been here to know what book i’m even talking about so i’m imagining you seeing that vague ass post and being like hm wonder what book beth read… only for me to tell you it was just call me by your name, known movie nobody on tumblr likes other than me <3 and i understand that no one here likes timmy due to the overexposure or whatever but you’re all really missing out because he really is that good. sorry i know this is the hates popular opinions website but sometimes an opinion is popular because it’s just right idk man….

ANYWAY. so we loved the book… well ok loved is a strong word. we had a fun yet tense time with the book… as we all know i like the movie a lot (clearly enough to put it in the timeless video twice never forget… and i stand by it i’d do it again and more) anyway so i am a big supporter of not getting to have real concrete opinions on things you haven’t seen/read/heard whatever. so my ass READ the text!!!! and i’m going to get into the adaptation process with helena’s ask later which none of you have seen but like. well it’s in my inbox and i’m going to talk so much about it i <3 discussing the adaptation process! i digress. the book was really good elio is SUCH a fucking freak to read about i adored him… he is literally like if nick carroway was alina starkov. he is utterly insufferable and also obsessed with that man. but in a way that is so teenage girl bipolar… the entire beginning he’s like UGH oliver is the WORST man on planet earth and he HATES me and i HATE him and somehow i’m still HORNY about it but he’s AWFUL and MEAN. and then he’s like oh wait actually i realized he’s just shy lol omg he’s just like meeeeeee fr!!!! it was crazy. And he really had me there for a minute i was like damn oliver sounds like he sucks remind me why this is a love story?…. i was like andré what are we doing… of course ultimately what he was doing was taking the reader into the character’s mind so we could experience the worst of what elio felt as well as the best. which was crazyyyyy you had to be there!! not that i’m recommending this book. well maybe i am. idk it’s hard to say. abby you’d probably like it actually i think you’d respect elio’s ever present horniness and loser energy about it. that was meant to sound friendly and loving i didn’t mean to insinuate that you’re a horny loser… but well i mean. um love you 😁🩷

i think overall i liked the writing and the only major things against it are that well. andré is still a man and as we know i rarely fuck with male authors. feels like every time i give a man a chance he lets me down and frankly. it happened again :/ must every fictional character going through a sexuality crisis get misogynistic with it? to be fair it wasn’t THAT bad i just didn’t like what he was doing with the female characters. it felt very like. you know how men just don’t see women as human beings? yeah. which is crazy because i looked it up and andré aciman has a wife. girl you HAVE to leave him i’m sorry but you need to there’s no way he’s the best you could do dear god… i understand that an author making certain characters less in a narrative doesn’t necessarily reflect how they feel about an entire group of people in real life. but i mean. i fear i just have very little faith in men. ALSO he wrote a sequel to this book. which first of all, call me by your name was published in 2007. and it’s sequel wasn’t even planned to be written until 2018. you’ll note that the film came out in 2017. capitalist ass…. anyway i read the plot summary of the sequel and it gave very Hates Women so. i’m sticking with what i feel. it also gave fanfiction a little ngl. it also made me hate elio’s dad more than i already did, which has always been a fair amount. but we mustn’t get into all that we don’t have the time. btw you’re not supposed to hate elio’s dad he’s supposed to be the jennifer garner love simon of this story. but i don’t like him and i never have even in the movie… but i do like him a bit more in the movie i’m mostly ambivalent about him in there but in the book i really didn’t care for him much. it’s not really hate so much as just dislike. but it’s enough to be worth noting!!

but i think the strongest thing about the book that really made it good was that it wasn’t so much a “love story” as it was one character’s reflection on intimacy in his life. a narrative being a Romance sort of posits that there are two characters of equal importance, but this is really just elio’s narrative and oliver exists only as an extension of elio. especially when you consider that the core part of their dynamic is that they’re so similar the edges between them blur. in a way you could read it entirely as a story about self respect and self love

but i digress. very jumbled ass post but what do you want from me you sent me a vague statement/question…..

monday - tuesday

ate toast and feel sick-ish.

i wish there were no foods that made me feel bloated. it's such an unpleasant feeling. food is stupid basically and i do wish pretty often that i just wouldn't have to eat it.

anyway, the videos about blowdrying my bangs were good they will make me at least 10% less crazyyyyy, that's just a little treat for me, inside my own head, i don't have to want to cut my head off anymore or whatever histrionic fantasies i get over feeling uggy.

i know i'm making myself sound like i'm doing badly but i'm actually basically fine rn, i'm exporting a song to see how it is now, this one's a bit tougher to mix, the bass is just a little too much rn. so i'm hoping to alleviate that.

i over-corrected but that's easy i suppose to come back on.

tonight i am really feeling the desire to play a yume nikki fangame, i guess because of the pixel art i've been doing, which i think i'll take a break on tonight, not that it takes long, but i don't want to get really burnt out, i'm already tired today, idk why. i guess work does that to you. it's just been so long since i've worked shifts like this, meaning night shifts, or later, shifts, idk. all that matters is that today i am sleepy earlier than usual.

idk, i think i will stop on the song now, and honestly i would play something but i think i am just too tired rn, we'll see. i guess i will try.

i am super sleepy now but i have at least one thought re: yume nikki and its various kin, which, particularly in yn's case, the evocation of dada and surrealist elements feels not like a mere effort to copy/use those to seem interesting, but done w/ an awareness of those periods and the goals and methods, for instance all the ne-primitivism in the games (esp. evident in the style, the use of pixel art to bridge all kinds of gaps, pixel art to embrace messy/strange kinds of drawing), that kind of thing, stuff that feels like explicit references and using abject mixtures (toriningen specifically being so evidently constructed), as well as the defamiliarized urban environment/uncanniness of social relations when they do occur (standing, staring, basically, and waiting rooms + train rides being the common motifs w/ being around 'others' (and they are all so other to you)), the games basically recall like, beyond dali (not the most exciting reference point imo) more out there moments in surrealism, w/ the downgraded photography used as backgrounds, the evident/excessive use of collage, it evokes this sort of work by man ray, in a way:

i really love the sweets world, in this one, it goes for less primitive and more oddly perverse, esp. with the way those rooms feel so retro and 60s-70s filtered thru that kind of pixel art + body horror, again, the games feel like they contain a lot of very vital and weird updating on surrealism as a way to engage w/ the world/not cut off from its potential for politics/a political mode that enables one to see/surface/engage with immediate surroundings/history and what was buried and ignored, the abjectified pieces of our immediate pasts and surroundings, and use them/turn them into things we have to engage with, rather than petty aesthetics.

I watched a 13 minute video that my friend made from the night we got drunk and it was crazyyyyy. Literally like at least 9 minutes of the video of me just telling sad stuff, talking about my old best friend and how she abandoned me, how i miss her and her grandma and how i fought with my other friend bc of her. I apparently talked about all of the shit that went down and her long af message. My friend said you made me pretty sad too and he said i just kept asking questions and you kept telling stuff. My other 2 friends were in the bathroom throwing up again and again. I felt so weird and every time i heard something unusual thing i said i went like wtf i said that. I kinda feel sad for my drunken self 😣I also said 'i wish i could go to Paris.' I am so glad i didn't say anything about my self harm and other shit.

Last night Millie and Noah took a break from the Stranger Things 3 set to join in on everyone’s favorite new internet trend: The #InMyFeelings Challenge, which has fans from all over the world showing off their best dance moves to Drake’s catchiest new song.

Millie and Noah started their challenge video from inside a car, and then smoothly made their way outside to show of some super fun coordinated dance moves.

Drake should seriously consider stealing some of their choreography for his next video, ‘cause it’s definitely a step up from his Hotline Bling moves. (No offense Drake — you know we love those iconic grandpa moves.)

At one point in the video, Millie and Noah can’t help but laugh their heads off as they take off their hoodies with what we’re guessing is a little less swagger than they’d intended.

Oh to be 14 years old again, am I right?!

Stranger Things fans can also get a kick out of the fact that the adorable challenge video was filmed in the vicinity of the Stranger Things season 3 set, as you can see a few trailers and crew members walking around in the background. And while the setting doesn’t seem to give us any clues as to what scenes Millie and Noah were filming that night, we can confirm that luckily no Demogorgans, Mew Mews, Bobs, or Barbs were harmed in the making of the challenge video.

Millie shared the cute video along with the caption QUOTE, “Nights like these get me crazyyyyy hahaha #friendshipgoals”

We’re guessing it was one of those looooong night shoots for these co-stars and real life besties, so it’s great to see them making the most of that #setlife downtime.

6/15/17

This morning we work up at 7 am. got breakfast, and checked out. We had a 3 hour drive from the Daintree Rainforest to Cairns. The bus ride was find. I am getting more used to the incredibly curvy roads and car sickness. Once again I took int eh beautiful scenery before we arrived at our next destination.

We arrived in Cairns at 12:00 pm and all of our rooms were ready which was a blessing! These rooms are sooooooo nice in comparison to what we have been staying in. We all have nice beds where no one has to worry about insects, lizards. or anything in their sheets. We have a bathroom, and plumbing, and a shower that we don’t have to share with bugs. It is a great day! We basically dropped off of our stuff and made a game plan for the afternoon.

Nia, Cody, and I had our Mijin Swing reservations t 3:00 so we thought that it would be smart to take a taxi over to that side of town and grab some lunch so we didn’t have to be stressed on time. As we walked out of the hotel we probably saw 5 taxis and just hopped in one of those. our first driver was very nice and took us to a pub about 5 minutes from where our excursion was. He explained that to get another cab it was very simple and all we had to do was have the restaurant call one for us. We ate our lunch and at 2:00 had the restaurant call us a cab.

We figured that an hour was plenty of time and would give us time to get there early. We were incredibly wrong. First we were waiting fro 10 minutes, then 15, then we went inside and they said it was still on its way, then 30 minutes, and that is when we began panicking (mainly me).

We ended up surpassing from Cody so he could try to get one in a different area, then we debated walking, then I was running through the parking lot trying to track down a taxi to take us. It was awful. I was terrified that we would be late and that they were going to cancel our reservation and that just would have been awful. Luckily, our cab picked us up at 2:45 and we made it to the site by 2:55. Talk about cutting it close on time… but we made it.

We arrived on site, checked in and went to the patio. I don’t thing any of us were prepared for who high it was but we watched a few people do it before us. Our nerves were going… we were all extremely anxious, but so excited.

Finally, it was our turn! We made it to the loading deck where we were fitted for harnesses and helmets. The guys cracked lots of jokes about it being his first day because he could tell I was so nervous. We all individually were fitted ant then went out to the aiding deck. This was when it really hit that we were actually doing this and we were about to be lifted almost 200 ft. up in the air and then dropped at rocket speed. We were extremely anxious and then it was time. We were being lifted backwards to prepare for our drop.

We were lifted so quickly, it felt like seconds and we just kept getting higher and higher. It was terrifying. We were able to see over all of the trees, see the ocean, and everything below us looked like ants. We waited for the light to turn to green so we knew that it was time to pull the release rope. It changed to green and I said, “1….2…..3…!” and then we were dropped and started flying!

The drop was absolutely terrifying! It was almost as if we got a mini bungee jump and then we were soaring through the air. It was incredible. I have never fleet so free in my life. The ride lasted about 5 minutes which was much longer than I had expected it to last and then the guy asked if we wanted to go again.

It was only $30 and Nia and I decided to do it again, just us this time. It was almost more terrifying the second time. We both felt as if we went higher up and both felt that the initial drop had a lot more bounce to it. Needlessly to say, we absolutely loved the swing. This was one of the coolest things I have ever done in my life and is definitely a highlight of my trip.

I honestly cannot believe that I did it. After we got off, we decided we both needed a drink so we each got a sex on the beach and just relaxed for awhile. The only bad part of this experience was that Nia and I both paid for the multimedia pack which includes pictures nd videos but the system crashed and they lost our footage. This was really disappointing at first but they were able to find one of our videos and emailed us it for free and gave us the refund. Thank god Cody and Tristan were there to take videos of us from the bottom because otherwise I would have been extremely upset.

I am still extremely happy with our experience, and I am happy with the footage we got. On the bright side, now I have $80 I didn’t have before. I am so happy that I did that swing, and I will remember it for the rest of my life.

We headed back to our hotel to do some homework for about an hour before the girls and I went to dinner. For dinner we walked into downtown Cairns and went to a wonderful dinner place. It was delicious and it was so cute. It was called the Courtyard and they had very Americanized food and we were all very excited about that. I had a fried chicken sandwich with aioli and onion rings and a strawberry lime cider. Australia has given me a love for cider too bad its not as big of a thing in the states( and that I’m not legal there).

After dinner we just kept walking in the downtown area where some girls outside of a travel place were like “Hey, come on in!!” we were all really hesitant and we were like, “Why? What are you guys doing?” They said were all just hanging out and then were going to go to Gilligans afterwards, if you come with us you will get free drinks and pizza!” We al asked why they were doing it, and they basically just told us it was for advertising and Gilligans pays for all of it. After some hesitation, we realized we were very safe and headed into the travel place. They were doing raffles and I ended up winning something but I had to decline because we were traveling to Sydney the next day.

After we hung out there for a bit we got VIP wristbands and walked to Gikugians. We were greeted on the balcony with tons of drinks and pizza. We sat at a table and met 2 girls and one guy that were traveling together. One ggirl was from Wells and the others were from Great Britain. We talked to them for a long while and it was so interesting to hear their take on things and their lifestyle. They thought ours were very strange and different from theirs. I am incredibly jealous of them because one girl was finishing up her trip of 9 months, one was going to be gone for 7 months, and the guy was going to be gone for 2 months. Shortly after, we met these 2 girls who were our age studying abroad here. They were from OHIo and they were so nice and so fun We ended up hanging out with them for the rest of the night.

At Giligans it was ladies night which meant every girl got frree champagne for an hour. It was crazyyyyy in there. 1 it was massive, 2 there were soon many girls, 3, guys were dressed up as girls to get free booze, 4 Why doesn’t America give out free drinks like this?

Giligans was my favorite bar./ club we have been to yet. It was full of big screens that projected music videos, the DJ was great, the company was fantastic, and we didn’t have to ay for a single drink.

As I mentioned earlier, it was ladies night, which also meant that they had a pole dancing competition. Let’s just say we had no idea what we were getting ourselves into when we were there. Kayla actually entered the comeption and she killed it just had a good time and kept her dignity. But… that was not the case for everyone. We will shut say that we saw wayyyy too much of some people. I actually don’t want to see that again haha.

Overall, the night was a blast. I had so much fun and it is one that I will remember for the rest of my life. I am a firm believer that everything happens for a reason and I am positive that we were supposed to walk into that little travel place. I am so happy with the friends I have, the experiences I am having, and the memories that will last a lifetime.

It was about 2:30 when we went to bed and had to get up early to catch our flight to Sydney. We will see how I feel in the morning!

Things I learned today:

Wallabies and kangaroos love god courses and open lawns.

Queensland is known as the sunshine state.

In Queensland, you can get fined for sticking limbs out of a car window

McDonald’s is far too large of a corporation

Taxis are not reliable here at all.

Read the terms and conditions before you sign waivers.

Glass of good= glass of boxed cheap wine.

Listen to the locals they know all the best places to go.
