So I spilled Polar limited edition winter 2023-24 yuzu seltzer on my laptop the other night, kept on a-writing for an hour and of course the next day the machine would not turn on. I have done All the Things (took out the battery, took out the hard drive, took out and replaced the RAM, every weird combination of button presses the internet told me to try) and I think it's just bricked.

It was a long two days without you!

I'm currently on my old (stopped using it in 2019 so it might be as old as 2015 given how long I keep laptops) machine and it is weirdly big while also being weridly small. The good news is Word [Current] saves to a cloud, so I am able to pick up where I left off with my new year's ambition to reestablish my writing habit; I even have my 42 open Chrome tabs back (bad news; this version of Chrome does not have Groups to file them in so they are all hanging loose up there and yes, it's madness--I see that now). Thismachine is still running Word 2007 because man alive, I hate change.

Anyway, here's yr cautionary tale. If yr laptop gets wet, immediately back up everything, shut it down, unplug it, and turn it upside down or sideways and leave it alone to dry for at least two days. I must admit this was not the first time I spilled on my current machine, so it's likely parts have been corroding slowly over time and this was just a final-straw situation. Just because it seems dry doesn't mean it is.

Now I have to splash out for a new one. . .and replace all my stickers! Again!

The learning curve is a little bitsteep for this machine

However, the unique design of the OD4300 virtuallyeliminated that problem, essentially by cutting down greatly on theamount of time that the user needs to handle the spiral coil during theinsertion process. Traditionally,inserting spiral coils bees more difficult as the diameter of thedocument increases. If you are ableto dedicate one user / technician to the OD4300, you should have noproblems. While these things make this unit a greatoption for longer runs and longer coils, those who are just using itfor a few books and shorter coils may find that it is perhaps a littlemore trouble than they bargained for.Designed to attach directly to your Rhino bo binding station. Weaknesses: Whenyou use the OD4300 correctly, and for the appropriate applications, itis a machine that can save you a great deal of time.In order to do so correctly, you will need to make sure that you adjustthe machine for the coil size that you are using, and that the correctmandrel size is used. If you will have multiple users, all of whom will be requiredto set up and use the machine, you may find that productivity slows.

However, for a lotof users, the opposite may be true. Strengths: Wefound that the system the OD4300 utilizes is remarkably effective atspeeding up the process of spiral coil insertion. This goes a long way in reducingwaste and really does help to increase productivity. We also found that thismachine made handling more lengthy coils much easier than with justabout any other system. The OD4300, on the other hand, seems to be at its best whenwhole pieces of 36 inch coil are used. It is meant for highvolume, print shop and production floor use

However, traydoesn't hold enough combs to make it very useful. It would have beenbetter to use the space to make the chip tray larger instead ofoffering storage for a few dozen combs.Althoughthis machine offers a stylish design that will fit well inside anoffice environment, it is made primarily out of plastic. This shouldnot be a problem for most office environments. However, heavy users andproduction environments should consider a more industrial machine withall metal components. ​The TitanWire is an extremely heavy duty 3:1 pitch wirebinding machine produced by the Document Finishing Group (DFG).Although DFG is a relative newcomer to the marketplace, they haveprided themselves on producing a line of equipment that is stronger,more durable and better built than their competition.Withthese things in mind, they created the TitanWire to meet the needs ofsmall to medium sized businesses who were looking for a heavy duty Twinloop wire binding system.This machine can bind documentswith traditional Twin Loop, Double Loop, Double-O, Wire-O and WireBindspines. However, it can also be used with GBC Proclick reclosablespines and with 3:1 pitch spiral coil.It also has a number of heavy duty features that help to set it apart from its competition.

Strengths / Features:

One of the most impressive things about the DFG TitanWirebinding machine is the fact that it can punch up to 25 sheets at atime. For a manual binding machine this is an excellent punchingcapacity. To be fair, you do have to pull the handle pretty hard topunch through that many sheets. Still, most other comparable machinespunch around twenty sheets at a time. This gives this machine a 25%advantage in punching capacity over most of its competition.Anothergreat thing about this machine is the fact that it can be used formultiple binding styles. It is specifically designed for use with 3:1pitch double loop wire which is available in sizes ranging from 3/16"up to 9/16". However, companies that want to add some variety to theirreports or need to occasionally bind a larger document can potentiallyuse 3:1 pitch spiral coil or GBC Proclick spines with this system.Theconstruction of the TitanWire is almost completely metal. The body ofthe machine, the punching mechanism, the punching dies, the handle andthe wire closer are all made of steel or other ultra strong metalalloys. Weaknesses / Limitations:

Although the Titan-Wire has a great punching capacity, itis still a manual binding machine. In order to punch the maximumcapacity of this machine you have to pull pretty hard on the handle.Smaller companies can simply punch a few less sheets and it won't be ahuge deal. However, larger volume users may want to consider anelectric machine to help improve productivity and reduce the risks forrepetitive motion injuries.One major oversight by DFG whenthey designed the Titan-Wire is that they neglected to include a wireholder or wire hanger on the machine. This feature is used to hold thewire spines in place while you hang your pages onto the loops of thewire spine. Unfortunately, without a wire hanger you have to hold thespine in one hand and the wire in another. That is difficult for almostany user and it greatly cuts into the productivity of this unit.Theplacement of the wire closer on this unit is also less than ideal.Having the wire closer on the top of the machine means that you have tolift the document and the wire up to the closer without the spinefalling off. This can be pretty tricky, even for experienced users.Other machines that have the wire closer located at the front of themachine tend to be much easier to use.The other issue withthis machine is that it only has an eleven inch punching throat andwire closer. Many other comparable machines on the market have afourteen inch punching throat. For organizations that never need tobind documents over 11" this isn't a problem. However, if your companywill ever need to bind documents that are legal sized or A4 size thismachine will be a lot more difficult to use. This is definitelysomething to keep in mind when comparing this machine to other similarpieces of equipment on the market.

Recommendation:

The Titan Wire 3:1 pitch binding machine is one of thestrongest and most durable binding machines that is available on themarket today.In many areas its construction and features are exceptional and allow it to stand apart from its competition.However,the fact that it only has an eleven inch punching throat and does notinclude a wire hanger or holder is a definite drawback to this machine.

Bin Size

This machine does not come with an auto-oiler and does not have theoption to have one installed.
