Okay so you're thinking from Taro's perspective
I'm thinking from Haruka's
"After everything I've done for you, you still can't find one thing to compliment me about?"
I've had good deeds thrown back in my face for cheap laughs too many times. So stuff like this is a deep insult to me
Yeah I get'cha. Absolutely valid :D
If your goods deeds are played for laughs or taken for granted then that sucks major moss, yo.
However, I do want to say that I think considering intent is very important, rather than just results.
It's not that he's taking them for granted, its that's he wants them to improve their skills (which is all fine and dandy I guess), but when they asked for compliments, Momoi's intent was to do just that: Give them compliments.
And I thinks that's important.
Because if he really took her/them for granted or was playing all she did for laughs, he wouldn't have tried at all to compliment her/them. But he did try.
And that's why I think it's crazy important to consider the fact that he was willing to even lie. People like Tarou aren't a big fan of change. They like routine, and new things are kinda scary ngl.
So the fact that Tarou tried (last episode) learning to lie because they told him it was important, AND the fact he tried again this episode is very important.
It shows that he does genuinely care about the other members of the team and is willing to listen and learn from them.
I said it once and I'll say it again, the fact that he died trying to compliment them, is in and of itself, a compliment.
"This is important to them, so I want to give them what they ask."
It shows a respect and appreciation for the team.
He didn't have to try to compliment them. But he did. That shows he (on some level) cares about their feelings, thoughts/ what they think.
SO yeah, 1 billion percent, having your good deeds thrown back into your face for laughs, or just in general not having your efforts valued is whack asf and absolutely understandable why you'd get angry about that.
But, at least the way I see it, I don't think he's throwing their good deeds back into their face (certainly not for laughs). I think the fact that he tried to compliment them to begin with shows that he does value their effort/help.
