I feel that with all the shocks the finale gave us we are missing one very important detail. Scylla’s parents surrendered and they were still executed on the spot as an example. And judging by Anacostia’s reaction this is not surprising and seems to be completely legal. Could you imagine this? Even the worst dictatorship in our world try for the most to at least justify their executions with some sham trial but not here. Here dodgers can be executed on the spot just as an example

We all were horrified at the brutality of the Spree because we keep identifying this world with ours but it’s not. For witches this world is every bit as brutal and oppressive as the worst regimes we had in our world(not going to put example because I feel it might be a bit disrespectful to compare real human tragedies to fictional events but you know which). The life of a witch is a brutal. Ever witch is born knowing that it would be only a matter of time until she has to go to Fort Salem and either die or become a murder. Every witch knows that their child will have to suffer the same fate. Each witch knows that if they run they can be hunted down and killed like an animal. Every witch has lost loved ones to the system. There are no exceptions. There is no option to keep your head down and hope it will pass you over. No hope that anything will ever change peacefully since the witches with actual power are the ones enforcing the system

I can’t even imagine the sheer devastating trauma of just existing as a witch in this harsh and brutal world. So honestly? I can absolutely understand the the Spree and why someone who would join them.
