The Empty House pt 2
Last time on Letters from Watson: a gambler was shot in a locked room, a detective rose from the dead and brandy once more proved itself the true panacea.
This time, we are eagerly awaiting the explanation for Holmes' miraculous reappearance.
Tumblr media
"He drew no weapon, but he rushed at me and threw his long arms around me."
So romantic.
"We tottered together upon the brink of the fall."
Look... tottered is not an ominous word. It just isn't. It brings to mind small children, the elderly, and drunk people. 'Tottered' is an amusing word. It amuses me. Usually these descriptions are very visceral and dramatic and moving, but the word 'tottered' just throws me right out.
"I have some knowledge, however, of baritsu, or the Japanese system of wrestling, which has more than once been very useful to me."
Or maybe you're referring to bartitsu? Which is an 'actual' martial art. Or... at the very least the British approximation at one.
I always thought this was made up, honestly, until not very long ago when I learnt there was an actual thing made up for English gentlemen. the pictures are very silly.
"With my face over the brink I saw him fall for a long way. Then he struck a rock, bounded off, and splashed into the water.”
Tumblr media
"So rapidly does the brain act that I believe I had thought this all out before Professor Moriarty had reached the bottom of the Reichenbach Fall."
I see being dead did nothing for your ego, Holmes. It has survived completely intact.
"I might, it is true, have reversed my boots, as I have done on similar occasions"
I want to know how this works. Feet are very much... feet shaped. Ankles are definitively at one end of the foot. Boots are designed with this in mind. How does one put on a pair of boots backwards. Walking backwards, I can see, but putting your shoes on so the toe is at the heel? Maybe if you're wearing ballet pumps or something like that with a very wide opening. But walking boots?
How?
"There I was stretched when you, my dear Watson, and all your following were investigating in the most sympathetic and inefficient manner the circumstances of my death. “At last, when you had all formed your inevitable and totally erroneous conclusions, you departed for the hotel and I was left alone."
Not even death can prevent Holmes from throwing shade at other investigators. 'inefficient'? "Erroneous" They're coming to the conclusions you arranged for them to come to.
"I took to my heels, did ten miles over the mountains in the darkness...,"
Don't try this at home, kids.
No really... do not attempt to make a ten mile trek over the alps in the dark. Just don't. Mountain rescue will not thank you.
"As to Mycroft, I had to confide in him in order to obtain the money which I needed."
You mean with your prodigious skills and intellect you couldn't work out any other way to make money. Like... get a job? Also, literally the first thing everyone knows about faking your own death is that you don't contact anyone from your old life. It's rule number one. Don't do it. This is basic stuff, Holmes. I expected better of you.
Always nice to get a Mycroft reference, though.
Tumblr media
Florence, Tibet, Persia, Khartoum, Montpelier, Holmes really was out there doing the world tour on his family money while Watson thought he was dead. Classic. It's like canoe man all over again.
"I came over at once to London, called in my own person at Baker Street, threw Mrs. Hudson into violent hysterics, and found that Mycroft had preserved my rooms and my papers exactly as they had always been."
Let me get this straight.
You're in contact with your brother the whole time, who is sending you money
You do high profile things that are relevant to your previous interests (visiting the Dalai Lama/exploration under the name of Sigerson/short but interesting visit to the Khalifa of Khartoum that the foreign office needs to know about/scientific research in Montpelier)
The first thing you do when you're back in the country is go to your former residence with no disguise and reveal your not-dead status to your landlady (poor Mrs Hudson does not deserve this).
There is no way anyone other than Watson thinks you're dead at this point. You have literally checked every box of the 'How Not to Survive Witness Protection' checklist. Congratulations, Holmes. You are bad at being dead. Just casually putting up posters everywhere you go that say 'Sherlock Holmes woz ere'.
I don't know how he survived three years, smh.
Also, the fact that he had already thrown Mrs Hudson into 'violent hysterics' and then went and made Watson faint makes that whole thing worse. I get that it's at least in part misogyny, but did you really need to repeat that experiment, Holmes?
In some manner he had learned of my own sad bereavement, and his sympathy was shown in his manner rather than in his words.
RIP Mary Watson (nee Morstan), we hardly knew you. And honestly, neither did your husband.
I observed that as he stepped out he gave a most searching glance to right and left, and at every subsequent street corner he took the utmost pains to assure that he was not followed.
You literally went to Baker Street, Holmes. This is too little, too late. The horse has already bolted, stop locking the doors. I do know that this is all part of your master plan, but given that you were stupid about secrecy the entire time you were away, it's difficult to tell where you started laying a trap and when you were just being dumb.
As my eyes fell upon it I gave a gasp and a cry of amazement. The blind was down and a strong light was burning in the room. The shadow of a man who was seated in a chair within was thrown in hard, black outline upon the luminous screen of the window.
Tumblr media
“The credit of the execution is due to Monsieur Oscar Meunier, of Grenoble, who spent some days in doing the moulding. It is a bust in wax.”
Sherlock Holmes here to remind you to always credit the original artist.
"You must remember that they knew, and only they knew, that I was still alive."
And yet they somehow did not keep track of Mycroft sending money overseas? I get that the Holmes boys are geniuses, but still. As previously mentioned, Holmes has not been subtle here. The bad guys are bad at their jobs. Shame on them. Shame on their cows.
"But I cared a great deal for the much more formidable person who was behind him, the bosom friend of Moriarty, the man who dropped the rocks over the cliff, the most cunning and dangerous criminal in London."
Who knew you were alive, but still somehow couldn't put together the myriad clues you were joyously dropping all over the planet for him. Full offence, but he's not that cunning.
"That is the man who is after me to-night, Watson, and that is the man who is quite unaware that we are after him.”
Anybody have a kernel of suspicion about who that might be?

Young Justice
A/N: Some cursing and poorly written fight scene. I will be making this a multichap fic, reposting it to its own work. Also name is a WIP.
@maribat-2k20
Whoosh.
Thump.
Clank-Clunk.
Repeat.
Happy Harbor doesn't make her very happy. But it doesn't make her that sad either. No different than New York City. But at least her Mama was there. The mother-daughter duo had made amends and Audrey invited Chloe to live with her in the city. It was nice, until Chloe got antsy. She itched to get out there and fight. But New York wasn't her turf and there were no bad guys to battle. Chloe also wasn't too keen on going to school in New York.
She was completely fine with video calling her Mari-bug, thank you very much. But even Mari saw that she needed to get back into the game.
"Bee, you can't have your only interaction being with your over-worked butler, your work-acholic mother, and your ex in Tibet." Mari's voice was hoarse from being out of breathe.
"You're just phrasing it weird. You're my best friend more than my ex. And Jean-Paul is not over-worked. He has off on Wednesdays and Sundays." Chloe responded flippantly and continued to file her nails on her sofa, which was placed right in front of the 85 inch flat screen mounted the wall of her room. She had linked her phone to the screen and webcam so she had a good view of her friend.
Mari gave her a unimpressed look while drying her head. She wore a pink sleeveless workout shirt with red flower designs sewn in and matching capris. She was also bald now. A guardian-in-training thing, Chloe was told when she first got the frantic call with the news. Her clothing choice was impressive since she lives in a temple in the mountains. Surrounded by snow.
"Chloe, you're lonely and you miss Sabrina. I can feel it from here." The pink clad girl said, before taking a sip from her matching water bottle.
"I'm not lonely, I have those trainers I practice with and I talk to Felix every now-" Chloe argued. But then was interrupted by her friend.
"You know, I think you should go to Happy Harbor, Rhode Island. And use Pollen and Stompp." She smiled as she cut off Chloe, tilting her head to the side with a content look on her face.
What. Chloe thought, head turning so fast to the screen she should have gotten whiplash.
"You should go. My instincts tell me that your gonna find something there. And as a Guardian-in-training, my instinct is usually right." Apparently Chloe said that thought out loud.
"Mari, I can't just leave. Mama has work in the city-" Chloe tried.
"Stop with the excuses, Chlo. Audrey has a headquarters in Happy Harbor, so she could just move her work there." Damn her preparedness and reasoning. Chloe stayed silent as she glared at her friend, even though it hasn't had an effect on Mari since they were ten-year-olds.
"And lucky for you, I already called Audrey to confirm it and she agrees that it's a good idea." Mari does a little dance, smirking with a wiggle of her shoulders and eyebrows. Fucking dammit, Mari-bug.
"I'll give it a chance." Chloe grumbles, a little peeved.
"Then get packing, honeybee, 'cause your leaving in three days."
Sometimes Chloe can't believe she still listens to her Bug's crazy plans.
~
Running across the roof tops in the middle of town. How inconspicuous. Was Mari trying to get her captured?
Now Chloe just felt stupid. She opened the screen of her top and prepared to arrange for another call with Mari when she felt a shift in the air. Someone was approaching, but she couldn't see anyone there. That wouldn't mean much though, since she had experience with invisible enemies.
Enemies, really? Even in death, you show her no respect. Sabrina should have-
Opponents. Invisible opponents. Chloe steadied her breath and banished the thoughts for another time. Faking ignorance, she tapped randomly on her top's screen.
The invisible entity came closer. And closer. Just a little closer. Almost within reach.
She grabbed a horn from her headset that doubled as a weapon and swung at the mysterious invisible person in one smooth motion. She grinned in satisfaction when she felt it hit something and heard it yelp in surprise. Or pain. Either was good.
Chloe looked over in time to see a green-skinned red-head girl lying on the ground, clearly disoriented by her surprise attack. Chloe's smile fell a bit when she envisioned a different red-head in her place, one much more familiar, thought only for a moment.
A memory of her faults and another thing that she lost.
She was quickly thrown out of her spiral when she saw two boys fall from out of a random place in the sky. Her instinct was to catch them and moved to do so before she saw the insignias on their chests.
"M'gann!" They yelled, probably because of the girl on the ground. Also, ever heard of code names?
Both boys wore a different emblem on their chests. After focusing on them, she recognized them to be the ones worn by the Superman and the Flash. So they must be their sidekick squad. The girl was probably Martian Manhunter's apprentice, since green skin and invisibility.
The boy with the Superman logo glared at her as a red and yellow blur came at her. The Flash's sidekick probably. And damn did whatever he did to her stomach sting.
Good thing she's an expert on stings. Her inner Adrikins was beside themselves laughing while every other part of her wanted to shake her head in exasperation.
Fighting a speedster was like fighting blind. Not something she particularly excelled at. All she could do was dodge as best as she could, which meant getting hit every eighth strike.
Chloe planted her feet and recalled everything Mari had told her during her probation and training period. Mari may not have been properly trained then, but she learned the ropes fast enough to teach everyone else;
"Every team's bound to have some variation of these core members. You need to be able to identify them. The heavy-hitter.
Probably Super-kid. For her, sometimes it was Adrien and others it was Rose using Stompp.
The strategist.
Redhead One or Redhead Two? Definitely not. Speedy over their just ran up to her and kept whooping her, it didn't seem like he had any other objective. And Mari, duh.
The one light on their feet.
Redhead Flash, obviously.
With the power of subjection, you must incapacitate the biggest threat. To you, the people, a team member, or the entire mission.
Looks like Redhead Flash is getting stung today. Serves him right, that hit was gonna bruise.
"Venom." She thinks, and thrusting her stinger-armed hand into where she predicted the boy would be. And she's right he comes to a complete stop, and, to her amusement, the momentum of his running caused him to face plant into the ground with a crack. His wrist probably, since a venom kept you from intentionally moving but allows movement by external forces.
Namely gravity and the concrete of the rooftop.
"Kid!" Exclaimed a young voice, probably from the figure falling from where the Redhead Flash and Super-kid fell from.
Super-kid helped up Redhead One and turned back to glare at Chloe again. She just smirked and armed herself with a top in her left hand and a horn in the other. To be honest, it look like an escrima stick.
A silent challenge hung in the air, each daring the other to move first. Though it actually gave her time to think up a plan. The most practical thing would be to jump off the side of the building, making it look like a retreat and then swing in to take him from behind. Yeah, that should work.
Chloe made a scene of contemplating fighting and running away, narrowing her eyes in thought. She ran to the edge of the roof top and jumped, briefly loosing herself to the nostalgia. Of the wind in her face and the adrenaline in her veins. It's been way too long since the last time she felt felt them.
She threw her top at the ledge of the roof, willing it to change into a grapple and swung her legs routinely. After doing this exact maneuver countless times before, she instinctively moved with just the right amount of force at just the right time. They used to call it the 'Mari Go Round', named after the girl who taught her the tact and the American nickname for a carrousel. Also because the swing takes you in a full circle.
Chloe straightened her legs in preparation to slam into his back, hopefully pushing him of the side of the building or at least give him some kind of injury with her heels. But he turned at the last minute and smacked her out of the air with his forearm. The bruise forming on her leg tells her that he has both super strength and invulnerability, since normal human strength wouldn't have sent so far and normal human arms would have broken if they tried to pull that trick.
The newest guest started throwing stuff at her. So Chloe quickly rose and jumped to the next building. She needed time to think.
Chloe wasn't here to fight the heroes, she here because Mari told she'd find something here. Maybe a lost miraculous, or guardian artifact. Or maybe someone-
"Boo." The young voice happily said, followed by giggles.
"Merde!" She shrieked, throwing one of her own boomerang weapons at the voice. Her eyebrows furrowed when she heard the unsatisfying noise of them imbedding themselves in the concrete.
She heard a fwuop and whoosh noise from the sidekick squad's direction, directly behind her. Not a good move on her part. She turned her head to see a net and inch from her face, leaving no room or time for escape.  She hit the ground with a thud, unable to get up due to the weight of the net. It likely was made for non-human threats. Not that Chloe wasn't human, but she was magically enhanced and that made her a lot stronger than one.
She felt hands pick her up and set her into a kneeling position, unknowingly giving her an  advantage. She quickly broke off the heel of her boot and hid it in her hand. They surrounded her, but were weirdly silent. They made faces at each other, like one would to convey emotion into words.
Redhead One tried to touch her forehead, and Chloe definitely wasn't having that. She summersaulted backwards into Super-kid, successfully knocking him down and allowing her to cut some of the net with the sharp side of her heel. Her legs were free now, and as she multi-tasked cutting the rest of the net, and dodging what ever the new guy was throwing at her and the now flying Redhead One, she ran and jumped as safely as she could.
Who was she trying to kid, that's what she'd tell Mari when this was over. Literally none of the stuff she does is safe.
Chloe landed on a roof top the one they fought on and she was so close to  getting the stupid weighted-net off her. As she finished cutting the last bit of the net and she reached for her top, she was bound again. This time by a... rope? Something like her weapon, just it was without a top or yoyo at the end and was... gold.
Oh, fuck.

Miraculous Rewrite - Volpina
Volpina, when it all comes together.
When we open in Agreste Manor, it’s about the same, Adrien getting ready for school and also fencing, packing his duffle and his backpack. He still overhears Gabriel ranting about an emergency considering next season’s line, and finds out about the safe behind his mother’s portrait. Unlike in canon, this time when he’s alone he’s 100% down to invade his father’s privacy.
Plagg kinda laughs and says he’s rubbing off on the kid, but Adrien is resistant to THAT comparison and says that anything his father would hide behind a portrait of his mother is something he SPECIFICALLY doesn’t want Adrien to find, so though he’s puzzling over the code, he’s not resistant to when Plagg comes in clutch and opens the safe for him. Adrien is actually looking things over a little more closely since… like… this is all REALLY suspicious and the fact that he didn’t see anything off from it is weird. He looks sadly at the picture of his mom, investigates the flight to tibet that he doesn’t remember ever going on or seeing his parents go on, and looks maybe a moment away from picking up the peacock pin before Plagg shouts, almost panickedly, that he recognizes the book.
Adrien is, of course, as interested as in canon, takes it, and looks it over, saying that it looks like a compilation of heroes. But maybe just Miraculous wielders, since Hawkmoth is in here. But when Nathalie comes along, he covers his ass and gets to school.
We cut to Marinette’s POV, with Lila’s claims meeting some resistance. With Ali on campus in this rewrite, he’s of course telling Rose and Juleka that he’s never met this girl, but her last name rings a bell all the same; he’s probably met her parents, and she wanted to do things like this with him. Nino is still believing her claims of knowing Hollywood producers, Chloe still is annoyed at songs apparently being written for her.
Alya approaches Mari and drags her by the arm up the staircase opposite Lila and Adrien, and into the library before the two of them entered, all but shoving her phone into Marinette’s face, who watches wide-eyed about the claim of being Ladybug’s best friend. The Ladyblogger looks at Marinette with a sort of ‘please explain’ expression, as Marinette waves her hands, assuring her best friend that she can only have one Secret Keeper, she’d never befriend someone in her hero form, and she’s never even met this Lila girl in her life. Alya huffs, taking her phone back and playing the recording again. “I thought so, Only one person can claim to be like ‘this’ with Ladybug, and that’s me.”
She shakes her head, saying that that interview is sure as hell not getting onto the blog, and wonders aloud about how much Lila is making up and how much she’s just going overboard with, before informing Marinette of her lies so far as well as what they know concrete. She’s in their year, but she’s being assigned Mendeleiv’s class, for some reason she's fixated on their class though and doesn’t seem to be socializing much with her actual classmates. But then the two of them watch Lila and Adrien walk past them, Lila tugging a kind of worried looking Adrien along. Alya states a dry ‘well that explains it’, and for the first time, Marinette panics in a way canon has made us familiar with.
Claiming that Lila could say any number of things, she could say she IS Ladybug and Marinette couldn’t say that that wasn’t true and then Hawkmoth will start targeting her family and everyone will blame Ladybug herself for giving away her identity to the public and the public will turn against her and they’ll become an angry mob and take away her Miraculous themselves to give it to someone else and then it’ll be too late to realize Lila was lying because everyone will know who she really is!
Alya and Tikki share a look, and the teenager places her hands on Marinette’s shoulders with a command to breathe, while Tikki assures her it won’t come to that.
Alya says after Marinette’s less panicked that it seems more like Lila is just saying she KNOWS a lot of people, instead of being someone of note. So so long as she doesn’t start blabbing to the news about being Ladybug’s fake best friend, there’s one thing that will never be made public.
Tikki is the one that then comments that that might not stop her from trying to cozy up to people with her lies. And they both peek over the shelf to see Lila clearly trying to put the moves on Adrien.
The boy is having none of that, though, trying to slide away from her. He takes out his “borrowed” book, hoping that’ll put her off talking to him, but instead she leans on his shoulder, eyeing the pages and asking if he has an interest in superheroes, mentioning that she’s BFFs with Ladybug, and he looks surprised. Tikki looks shocked at the mention of superheroes, and floats off before either girl can grab her, and the rest of the scene plays off mostly as it did in canon, only with Alya face-palming from behind a bookcase when Marinette fails with her cart hiding spot.
When Lila asks Adrien if he’s got a thing for Ladybug, she says offhandedly that there are more heroes to look for, Like... well… have you heard of Lady Temp? Thank you, thank you, it was nothing really, Ladybug needed her help and she couldn’t say no! It was her first day in Paris actually, it just took awhile before she could get properly enrolled in Francois Dupont.
Alya sees red for a moment, this is around the time she bumps into Adrien on purpose to steal his book. Which Marinette, from her position under the table, spots.
Lila ushers Adrien out, takes a look at a page, hums about the fox, then wanders off. Marinette and Alya regroup, Alya clearly frustrated and pissed for obvious reasons, and Tikki tells the two of them she needs to get the book, much to the girls’ shared confusion. She promises to explain once they get their hands on it, and to follow Lila.
And follow Lila they do, with Alya searching up the liar’s parents, finding out that Lila only arrived this weekend! Marinette comments without looking up from her phone that Jagged only ever knew one Lila, a Lila Wilson, and he apparently had a crush on her because she was the smartest girl in his math class in something called ‘Softmore Year’; establishing also that she’s still in contact with the rock star since her two commissions for him. Alya notes as they continue to follow her that she got some sort of fox tail charm from a department store and was looking at a page in the book.
Alya asks Tikki if there’s a fox tail Miraculous, and Tikki nervously answers that there is one, yes. Even before Lila and Adrien meet up, her plan has come to light. The two of them are still seething, but even as Lila dumps the book into the trash to cover her tracks, she’d notice if either of them make a break for it.
And so Alya whispers something in Marinette’s ear, and the scene shifts away before we find out what, as we watch Lila try and claim she’s descended from a Miraculous holder (the reason Ladybug trusted her to be a temp. hero), and Adrien’s clearly excited. Rather than seeing Ladybug come in to burst the bubble, it’s Lady Temp, which is more than enough without completely calling every lie Lila’s made. Adrien looks between Lila, and Lady Temp, then back to Lila, asking if she really did lie to him like that, just to make him like her, and she has her crocodile tears as she runs off.
Adrien apologizes to Lady Temp for believing someone like her without proof, commenting on how if she really had been a superheroine, temporary or not, she wouldn’t have revealed something like that out of nowhere. Lady Temp gives a small nod, making a comment about keeping better track of his belongings, then yo-yos away. He checks his bag with that line, and freaks out when he realizes the book is missing, connecting the dots -- Lila stole the book.
Marinette is long gone from the park, now on the loft of her bedroom with the book, and Alya ascends the ladder to join her on her bed, Tikki flying out to look at the book. Before either can really take a look, the meteor happens. Alya promises to take a look at the book while Marinette does her thing, handing the earrings back to their rightful owner.
Volpina arises from the smoke, declaring herself a hero that Paris can rely on. She has no need for those silly temps, and she never will.
Ladybug and Chat Noir are quick to the scene, Chat folding his arms and wondering aloud what’s so wrong with their Secret Keepers? Volpina comes across the two of them and insists that she meant no offense of course, she just feels like Paris should have a  hero that always shows up to every fight. No offense of course.
Some of course, is taken. But Chat is quick to forgive and begins to plot out their supposed plan to go against Hawkmoth who is totally here and isn’t an illusion at all. They argue over method for a bit before Chat makes a joke about how Ladybug doesn’t have to be jealous, he only has eyes for her. Ladybug testily claims she’s not jealous, but rather suspicious.
After all, isn’t it weird how that meteor gave off no heat? Why is Hawkmoth out here supposedly without an Akuma to back him up? Why would there be a Miraculous with a main power that was unlimited? If it was flight or super strength, why isn’t her necklace in countdown yet?
Chat thinks for a moment, but really, he trusts his partner more than canon wants you to think, so he agrees that that does sound weird when laid out. And if Ladybug thinks she’s an Akuma. Ladybug looks over to Volpina, watching her chase ‘Hawkmoth’ around the Paris streets, routinely stopping for things like getting a cat from a tree, helping an old lady across the street that seemingly wasn’t there before, and soaking up the applause and cheers.
“You know, I’m thinking she might be.”
“And another thing, Kitty -- none of us have seen Hawkmoth outside of a head made up of akumas. Convenient that she told us who this was, isn’t it?”
“So what are you thinking? Illusionist?”
“Yeah probably. Akuma in her necklace I’d bet.”
“Well she’s not gonna let us just come up and take it from her, so we’re gonna need to play dumb.”
So the two of them part ways, Chat loudly asking Volpina for a plan. But as the two seem to banter in the crowd, Ladybug is cornered by the actual Volpina, being threatened with the arsenal of missiles once again, but this time huffing and making the whole arsenal vanish. She says that she’s onto her game, and Volpina snarls. Before shooting back how she wonders if anyone will believe her after this. She then blows on her flute and summons an illusion of the both of them, blocks away. Fighting and arguing loudly. Ladybug shouting horrible, jealous sounding things about how Volpina thinks she’s sooo cool, and Paris was fine before her and it will be fine after. She will not take Chat from her, or Adrien, or Lady Temp, or anyone, they’re all hers, Paris is hers and there’s no room for a third hero.
Chat Noir, thankfully, is no fool. He approaches the illusion, looking for all the world like just a panicked scared observer. The real Volpina, whose in the middle of fighting Ladybug, watches satisfactorily as Chat tries to tell ‘Ladybug’ to stop it. But her excitement is short lived as Chat Swings his baton through the two of them with a silly ‘oops! So Clumsy! I’m sorry Volpina, what were you lying?’ and deciding she was in a bad situation here, runs off to one of her other goals. Adrien.
From there the story can actually play as normal, Adrien, unable to have Nino take over, is stuck for a bit as Adrien as Ladybug tries to protect him from Volpina, only to run to the bathroom and transform. Volpina makes an illusion of Adrien to draw the two of them out, and Ladybug, for fear of Adrien’s life, nearly gives in before Chat is able to prove that they were an illusion. And once again the day is saved.
As Miraculous Ladybug sweeps the land Lila asks Ladybug who her temp friend is. Ladybug says that their secret keepers identities are as secret as their own. Lila humms, and glares into the middle distance. “She ruined everything.” She says testily, Ladybug kneels down, saying that Lady Temp is a good friend of hers, she’s prideful sure, but she’s kind. Lila cringes away, saying that if that’s the kind of friend she has then they could never be friends themselves. But she still lets Ladybug carry her off of the tower.
When we next clip back, Alya is still chewing into the grimoire, notebook beside her covered in scribbles and frustrated look on her face. Marinette comes back into her room and detransforms. “Any progress?”
“You know someday I’m gonna have an awesome fight scene! Temp Noir got to fight in like two akuma battles and I’ve got none!”
“Is that a ‘no’?”
“You bet your bum it’s a ‘no’.” Tikki takes then to speak up, telling of the book’s importance. That she knows where it’s to be delivered, but unfortunately, Marinette must go alone. After a moments deliberation and taking in the harried, almost exhausted looking expressions on the girls’ faces, sighs and says they’ll do it in the morning.
And of course when the morning comes, the sun barely peeking over the horizon, Marinette is led to the same familiar little shop.
“Nice to see you again, Ladybug.”

Spirit Bound
Summary: Five years after, December 1991, you and Tony were left alone while Howard and Maria prepared to go away for a few days. Sadly, they died in a “car crash” in Long Island, leading you and Tony to grieve over their deaths. Sometime later, Jarvis also died, leaving you and Tony alone.
A few months later, Tony inherited Stark Industries and became the youngest CEO of a Fortune 500 company. Tony built a custom mansion for the both of you. With Tony making billions of dollars and living the playboy lifestyle, he spent less time with you.
Another five years later, you leave Tony and the mansion to pursue a life of your own. You traveled the world to train in the many forms of martial arts, even training in gymnastics, parkour, sword-fighting, and stealth. At the age of 19, through your martial arts training, you have become an expert on virtually all types of weaponry. You even became an expert markswoman, tracker, and hunter.
Pairing: Mortal Kombat x reader; Bucky x reader
Warning: swearing, time travel,
Character Powers: Telepathy and Telekinesis
A/N: Sorry for the long summary, but it was needed for the time jump. Also I rewrote this chapter. I hope you like it!
Chapter 2
Bucky Pov
He felt your fear before. Heard your screams. Your nightmare pulsed into him, pulling him out of his own unconscious body. Images...yours, not his. The sound of bullets ringing. The sight of blood coating your fingers. It was all to vivid. Too real. Until the Winter Soldier reminded himself that it wasn’t his dream. He can’t dream in cryostasis.
All he can do is watch as you reminisce the death of your mother. He didn’t know why or how he was able to see inside your nightmares and reality. Some part of him wanted to reach out and comfort you, but he didn’t think you would be able to feel him. So instead he just watches, hoping you would wake.
“You aren’t there anymore.” Winter Soldiers whispers, as he has seen this nightmare before.
He noticed your frantic breathing had slowed. Did you hear him? This is the first time he had said anything.
“Wake up.” He tested.
Suddenly, your eyes fluttered open and all he could see was darkness. He saw you reach for the lamp on your nightstand, it glowed dimly. He could make out a dresser, mirror, closet, and a chair across the room. He felt your emotions calm down.
You rose from your bed and made your way to the bathroom. Turning on the light, he studied you. He sighed with relief as your color had returned.
He had become concerned with your well-being a few months ago, as you were paler and dark circles hung under your eyes. You also had multiple bruises, which caught his attention.
Curiously, he found out that you were obsessed with finding the Red Dragon clan, more importantly Daegon. He watched as you traveled all around the world, fueled by the loss of your parents.
He saw you in Tibet, where you trained in many forms of martial arts under Shaolin monks. He saw you training in sword fighting, gymnastics and parkour. He saw you training stealth by a master in the Hida Mountains, in Japan.
All of this he had seen behind your eyes. He knew what you were doing. You were using your pain as a motivator. You were preparing yourself to go against the clan that murder your mother. If he could stop you, he would. He didn’t want you to commit murder. He didn’t want you to taint your soul.
Looking into the mirror, you squinted your eyes as if you noticed something within your eyes. He was here. You could always feel him within you. This was however the first time you had ever heard his voice.
He watched as you stared at your right forearm, written on your inner forearm was the name James Buchanan Barnes. He wondered who he was to you? Was he your lover? He didn’t know or understand what this fiery feeling that burned through his veins was.
“Soulmate or not. It’s not fair that you can pry into my life.” You shook your head.
He remained silent as he didn’t know what to say. Soulmate? What did you mean by that? Was he yours? That couldn’t be possible since, he was a weapon…a soldier of Hydra. There were no soulmates, where he came from. Were there?
Images…not yours, but his. He’s remembering little pieces of his old life.
He remembers his mother telling him a story about soulmates. Soulmates were known to be sacred. His mother would tell him that he was lucky to have a soulmate as not many people did.
He had not one, but two soulmates. She told him that the two special people written on his arms was solely his from the moment they were born until their dying breath.
Steven Grant Rogers and Y/n L/n.
Before he even knew it, he was slipping from your mind. He tried grasping onto you as he was afraid to return to his unconscious body. You made him feel safe. His memories just started coming back, he didn’t want to forget Steven and Y/n. He continued to struggle, but it was useless as his consciousness was slowly being swallowed by darkness.
1 year later...

You had fallen asleep as soon as your head hit the pillows on your bed. You had a long day of training with Maseo, a man who taught you how to fight with the soultaker sword.
You came into possession of it a month ago, you searched high and low to find the weapon that everyone desired. The weapon that was the cause of your families destruction.
Anyone sane would have left it buried where it was but you, you were not like anyone. It called to you and bonded with you unlike your predecessors.
This was your way of life now. Far away from home and your brother Tony. Not like he cared as he was too preoccupied living his playboy lifestyle.
You remember a time where he actually genuinely cared, played with you, and taught you all about robotics. You missed those days. You missed him.
You drift off into a deep sleep and don’t even notice that you were enveloped into a portal. It didn’t take long for you to realize you were no longer in your bed. You opened your eyes and immediately went into a fighting stance. You looked around and found yourself standing before the Elder Gods. However, you had no knowledge as to who they were.
Tumblr media
You look down to find yourself in a white sheer dress with a double slit, underneath was a nude bra and panty. You don’t remember wearing this outfit in particular. You remember wearing a sweater and sweat pants as it was cold in the Himalayas.
“What the hell…Where am I?” You asked, as you looked around and used your telepathic ability to sense if you were still on Earth. Nope. Apparently not since you can’t seem to read anything. Not even the freaky people looking down at you. “Who are you? Why am I here?”
“We are the Elder Gods, child. We have summoned you, daughter of Y/M/N, because we need your help or rather Raiden needs your help.” The female Elder God replied calmly.
Raiden. You heard that name before. That was a long time ago though. Your mother had told you stories about Raiden, he was supposedly a thunder god. Which you found humorous as Thor was known to be God of Thunder, but then again he was probably a myth.
You couldn’t understand why Raiden needed you and how did these Elder gods know your mother? Where were they when you were both attacked by Red Dragon clan? Why didn’t they help your mother?
“Raiden? Why would he need my help?” You take a step forward and clench you fists. “You know what. Screw you. I’m not helping. Where were you and Raiden when my mother was attacked?”
“Unfortunately, we cannot interfere. Raiden has been tasked in keeping Earthrealm safe from Outworld attacks. Your mother was a great warrior, who carried the weight and burden of the Soultaker’s location. Now that it is your possession, you must uplift your families sacred duty to protect it from those corrupted and evil.” Another Elder God speaks, his voice sounds light.
“Earthrealm is in grave danger. Raiden is the last defense in keeping Shao Kahn out of Earthrealm.”
The Elder gods show you an image of failed Earthrealm warriors, there were so many corpses scattered across the once sacred grounds. Limbs hanging from various places and blood staining the Earth. Vultures feeding from the deceased.
At the top, Raiden is fighting against the evil ruler Shao Kahn, but you can see he is failing. Raiden sits in a kneeling position in front of Shao Kahn, he’s clutching his shattered amulet.
“Yes, pray to the worms, Raiden.” Shao Kahn mocks.
You see Raiden starting to chant, “Elder Gods, please hear me. I beseech you give us another chance! A chance to change this fate! Send us an aid.”
You see Shao Kahn bring down his war hammer to kill Raiden. Raiden lifts his head, lightning sparks envelop his body. “He must win.” Are his last words.
You close your eyes, not being able to witness such a death.
“Shao Kahn plans to move his forces to take over Earthrealm. If he succeeds we will not be able to save your people. Many will die.”
“Then why haven’t you intervened?” You cross your arms and raise your brow.
“Shao Kahn has not violated the rules of Mortal Kombat.”
“What? Are you blind? You just showed me that he’s invading Earth! He just killed Raiden!” You shift and look around the many faces of Elder Gods.
“Invasion is not itself a transgression. It is the merger of realms that is proscribed.”
You throw your hands in the air, “Are you kidding me? It’s the same damn thing. People will die!”
“It is regrettable. But the Mortal Kombat tournaments are not intended to prevent certain outcomes. They are intended only to maintain balance among the realms.”
You place your hand on your forehead, frustrated by these so called Gods. How could they think Earth was not worth saving? Regrettable, my ass. You thought. If you could, you would punch them in their uptight faces.
You take a deep breath to calm your anger, “Then what the hell do you expect me to do? How can I help Raiden? I’m not a hero. I’m not a god.”
“You will be sent back in time to help Raiden and the Earthrealm warriors.”
“And do what? Use my telekinesis to take Shao Kahn’s head out of his ass.” You paced around the floor, getting more irritated with these gods. You silently thank these were not the gods you prayed to.
“You will help guide them into making the right choices.”
You drop your head, thinking how ridiculous and vexing they were. How were you going to help them in making the right choices? You were still trying to figure your life out. Hell, you made a few horrible decision in the past and learned to not make those same mistakes.
“And if I fail?”
The female Elder God showed you another image, your world in ruins. Earth has returned to the dark ages. People run for their lives as others are murdered by Outworld people. You gasp as you see your brother Tony being outnumbered and murdered in front of your eyes. Tears stream down your face. This wasn’t real. Was it?
“This isn’t real. My brother isn’t dead.”
“No. At least not yet. You can still stop this from happening. You have the chance to save those you love.” The female Elder spoke softly.
There was no other choice, you had to save Tony or at least die trying. He was the only family you had left aside from your other two brother’s whom you had never met.
“Alright, fine. I’ll do it.”
“Tell Raiden, “The Grand Champion of Mortal Kombat shall be Earthrealms salvation or the cause of its destruction.”
“Do you understand?”
You nod which causes the Elder Gods to smile.
“You are their last hope, Y/N L/n-Stark.” The female Elder God used her powers to send you back in time.

Lui Kang and Raiden had arrived on the island, they quickly notice a bright light coming from the woods. Curious they both check to see where the light came from.
They were met with a sight of you floating in the air, completely unconscious. Gently you were lowered down to the ground by an invisible force.
Lui Kang and Raiden rush over to your aid.
“Who is she? What is she doing out here, Lord Raiden?” Lui Kang knelt by your side.
His eyes roamed your body, inspecting to see if you were wounded. He was relieved to see you had no wounds. However, he noticed the soulmate tattoo on your forearm. James Buchanan Barnes. He averted his eyes from your inner forearm as it was private and intimate.
He immediately blushes as the sheer white dress gave a good glimpse of your athletic body. He averts his eyes quickly before you wake.
You open your eyes and groan in discomfort, “I hate time traveling. I think I’m going to be sick.”
You suppress the vomit rising from your throat as you notice you are not alone. You whirl around to meet the faces of two unfamiliar people.
One wears a white robe and a blue vest, his face shadowed by a straw hat. The other was bare chested, had red and black pants, Kung Fu slippers, shaggy black hair, and a red headband.
“Are you alright?” Raiden asks, while he sees you slowly rising onto your feet.
You tilt your head and look at the both of them. You use your telepathy to figure out who these two strangers were. Lui Kang and Raiden.
You take a deep breath, “The Grand Champion of Mortal Kombat shall be Earthrealms salvation or the cause of its destruction.”
Both of them look at each other and then you.
“I was told by the Elder Gods to give you this message.” You shrug as you look around the woods. How far back in the past were you?
You look down to see if you were still wearing that ridiculous dress. Damn it. You were gonna need to change clothes and soon.
“So you are the aid the Elder Gods have sent.” Raiden says, he remembers a vision his future-self had sent him. He had asked for aid to help them defeat Shao Kahn.
“Lord Raiden who is this girl?” Lui Kang asked from beside, his eyes remained locked on your face. He dare not look anywhere else, in fear you would scold him.
“My name is Y/N L/N-Stark. I am the daughter of Y/M/N, a former Earthrealm warrior of Mortal Kombat.” You place your hands together and bow slightly to show respect. “I am from the future.”
Lui Kang eyes widen in shock, “The future?”
You nod, “I know it’s a bit complicated.”
“So, what you told me is true.” Lui Kang looked to Raiden.
“Yes, the Elder Gods have given us a hero to help guide us.”
Hero? No. That’s not exactly who you were. You were just someone who was willing to protect her own brother from his fate, you couldn’t lose Tony. Despite being at odds with him, you still loved him. He was your family after all. But… you would happily take the title.
