During a tough week, I’m feeling forever grateful to have met this amazing lady, to call her my friend, and to have someone so awesome bringing joy to my life ❤️ Yesterday was my last dance 💃🏻 class before Christmas 🎄, and therefore my last Lucy Day (except it’s actually not, because Lucy and I are having a day out next Wednesday 😂👍🏻!), so although we’re having a dance class Christmas do next week, we decided to have our own lil Christmas meal. After our usual Thursday Starbucks and dance class, me and Lucy decided to go somewhere posh for a celebratory BAFTA winner meal! We had a delicious lunch at Bella Italia, including dessert and even a cheeky cocktail 🍹 that was actually surprisingly strong and left us both slightly tipsy 😂! We did hope that by putting the BAFTA on the table we’d get some free champagne, but alas, it was not to be! As always, it was a joy to spend the afternoon with Lucy 😁 she’s genuinely such a cool person! Even though this week started on the extremely high point of winning a BAFTA, it has not, overall, been very good at all. I have been suffering awful spasms, seizures and pain. Wednesday in particular was horrific, and ended with me starting on injections to try and manage my spasms and pain. Everyone was very surprised I decided to go to dance class because I’m so unwell, but here’s the thing; I needed to experience something good. I needed to be reminded that there’s things that make me happy. I needed a reminder of why I fight through the bad days. Today my student teacher/volunteer at Rubicon Dance met me (as in, got the train from her house to mine!) at LMC to take me on the bus (two buses there,two buses back) to class, act as my carer there, and take me back to LMC, all for free (because LMC are short staffed and didn’t have anyone for today)! We had a fab time and lots of laughs, and I bought us both a Starbucks on the way to class, after we stopped there for me to use the mission impossible style keycoded loo, and she bought us lunch on the way home that we ate at mine after 😁. Lucy is an absolutely lovely person, really funny and terribly kind 💖 and really interesting; she’s an ex carer doing a PHD in clinical psychology about the effect of people getting mobility aids, working with mobility aid companies, and volunteers with Rubicon teaching Dance. New friend alert 🤩! Feeling very lucky to know such an incredibly kind person 💖 @rubicondance you’ve got some (aka A LOT) or truly fantastic people on your team 😁! My weekly dance classes are genuinely a highlight in my week, and are so important for maintaining my physical and mental health. For an hour a week I get to dance 💃🏻 with my friends 👭 to awesome tunes 🎶 and that hour has given me some confidence back in my body, and even kickstarted my journey of relearning to love and care for my body. But most importantly, it makes me happy, even during really terrible days and weeks when I’m in pain and poorly and my parents are poorly and... well, you get the picture! It makes me happy 😁.
