Do you have any Bald Bull headcanons?

i jumped when i saw this ask YES INFACT I DOOOO

ignore misspellings and that kinda stuff its 5am over here </3

i noticed listening to his voicelines that bald bull doesn’t really speak using colloquial language. and uses phrases that wouldnt really be used nowadays..? in other words, he speaks quite old-fashioned! because of this i headcanon that bull was raised by his grandparents! (i think his line ab his dad was a mistranslation because i cldnt find him talking abt a father figure for the LIFE of me. i think someone transcribed it wrong and then things got mixed up. but yeah bull is fatherless lmfao. what happened? idk i didnt think about it too much)

speaking of his family structure, wouldnt surprise me if he had siblings too. he gives middle child vibes. i think he’d have an older sister and a little brother

he speaks english the best out of the non-native english speaking boxers. i think he’s lived in america the longest (purely because of the amount of appearances he’s had in the franchise (but when speaking english i don’t think he’d use contractions eg saying ‘you are’ instead of ‘you’re’)

oh yeah also mask x is a persona he made to protect his identity and hide from the press but that backfired on him HARD

i know everyone n their mama has said this but he also has (undiagnosed) autism. he does pretty well w other sensory stuff like sound and texture, but he cannot STAND flashing lights. he gets extremely agitated when overstimulated, and that kinda helps him slip into his ‘bald bull’ character

another language tidbit, i don’t think he came up with the name ‘bald bull’ himself? because when he says it he says it in english rather than turkish. i think someone nicknamed him that when boxing and it kinda stuck

he’s very uhm. ‘isolated’ when it comes to relationships (idk how to describe it) but hes very paranoid when making friends because he worries the press will get on their asses to try and like get info abt bull?. he feels a bit more at ease talking to members of the wvba because they already have paparazzi swarming them as is. he also knows carmen from his arm wrestling days (this is expanding on the carmen is arm candy hc by @/boltun-tkn!!) but yeah they’re good friends :)

i gotchu!! i’ve actually got a draft rn of wong hcs for @notsosecrettunnel that i never got around to finishing, but here are some more concrete hcs i’ve settled on :}

his earthbending is based in abhinaya dance

he had a little bit of history watching different kinds of dance, but under hark, he studied opera, both dance and voice, intensively

LOVES romantic tragedies. they are his SHIT

his clothes a mix of old chinese and tamil king robes

has the widest voice range of the current FOC

has really REALLY thick black hair. there’s a bit of a wave to it, but he tends to cut it off when it gets past his shoulders

before he cuts it off tho, he lets lek and kirima have fun playing and braiding with his hair

very much a believer of speaking only when he needs to. but when he talks, everyone listens

unless he’s talking about journey to the west. then nobody listens /hj

very passionate about the arts in general. in another life, he would’ve studied opera exclusively

grew up not eating bull-cow and avoiding sow-pig as much as possible. nowadays, he still tries to avoid it, but he’ll eat it if there’s nothing else.

idolized hark when he joined the FOC, as hark mentored wong in not just dance, but singing as well

was in charge of teaching the newer recruits basic dance and singing

loves gold jewelry, has a lot of bangles on his wrists and ankles, as well as a bunch of rings. kirima scolds him for looking and sounding like a bright flashing target, but wong still insists on wearing them

not afraid to cry. he’s one of those guys who cry when they see a really small puppy.

backstory hcs

wong was the oldest child of 5 siblings total

was born in a small village in the southern earth kingdom

mom liked to tell him that he was descended from ancient kings—that’s where he gets his whole “royalty” aesthetic

when he was about 2 or 3, his family fled from civil war in the province.

grew up in the lower ring of ba sing se—his mom worked the mines (mom was an earthbender) and his dad did cleaning work around the lower ring

wong’s mom’s earthbending is based in abhinaya dance!! wong watched her dance growing up and that’s how he learned his earthbending

joined his dad in working around the lower ring, but when his siblings were born, he had to stay at home to look over them

one of his dad’s clients was a dance studio in the middle ring, a prep school for opera

at night, he’d sneak out to the school to watch the late night rehearsals

sneaking around without being caught + studying the dancers is how he’s so graceful and silent while moving

when wong was about 14, during a particularly harsh crackdown, all lower ring workers were prohibited from entering the middle and upper ring

his dad, along with several others, joined his mom in the mines. wong was also assigned there, but the night before their first day, wong tried to sneak out to visit the dance studio

he was caught, arrested, and thrown in jail

later that day, there was an explosion, and the mines his parents were in collapsed

police let him out so he could go take care of his siblings

the next oldest siblings were 12 and 10, but between them and wong, they struggled to keep food on the table

a few days later, the police came by to take his siblings to the orphanages, which were notorious for sending kids to work in the mines

that night, wong fled ba sing se with his siblings and traveled to the coast to try and find a place for his siblings

thoughts on language barriers in TKN???

(disclaimer they aren’t actually analytical thoughts? just HCs :”0 )

(also disclaimer these are just my own HCs bc i’m half canto, also ik it’s super incorrect to completely assign any specific identity/language/dialect equivalent of the real world to avatarverse bc there just isn’t a parallel to make, but this is just fun musings, pls don’t take this seriously)

jianzhu mentions offhandedly that the earth kingdom dialects have been split so heavily in the north via the south, and so i imagine that yun and jianzhu speak similar dialects--we can presume that the earth kingdom was never particularly unified and existed as provinces, so maybe their dialects were similar enough that they understood each other. and maybe northern earth dialects was more standardized, so kelsang, as a monk, and rangi+heiran, as high-ranking nobility and soldiers, would have learned northern dialect specifically. i imagine as part of yun’s training that he learns the other dialects as well as the languages of the other three nations, just to perfect his communication abilities.

kyoshi, however, spent her childhood traveling all over with hark and jesa, right? i imagine she picks up multiple dialects as well as the native air nomad’s language, and although she never uses them during her time in yokoya, she still remembers them and ends up picking up the southern earth dialect (which i imagine to be a pidgin from the SWT and the original earth kingdom dialect) as her dominant speaking language,,

coming to the mansion, there’s a slight language barrier, she can’t quite understand yun or jianzhu or rangi or literally anyone else, and so kelsang tasks it upon himself to teach kyoshi the northern dialect so she’s not kept out of convos w everyone else. rangi eventually joins in, and everyone is pleasantly surprised w how quickly kyoshi picks it up (just bc she just needed to jog her memory, although it simultaneously triggers negative emotions :( ).

but i also believe in the inherent homoeroticism of overcoming language barriers, so i imagine rangi learned north earth dialect in school and as such is very not well-versed with slang and stuff, and so sometimes yun and kyoshi will throw that around rangi and rangi gets super flustered and later during lessons w kyoshi kyoshi also teaches rangi some of southern earth dialect so that she and rangi can tease yun later

(this later comes in handy when kyoshi and rangi flee bc the FOC speaks primarily the southern earth dialect--kirima and lek picked it up when they first joined and still remember their native languages, wong i hc to be from ba sing se so it was a slight adjustment)
