PLEASE tell us why you hate the dumb dragon prequel show??
Oh god, I've talked about it so much over on my main @ripley-stark that I forgot that I haven't really made my opinion known here. If you want the long answer, I've been posting voraciously under the #alicent hightower and #hotd tags since the show started airing.
Tl;dr, I really wanted to love this show! There are lots of good character concepts and... attempted... themes, and the acting, costume design etc is stellar. I think that's one of the reasons why it still occupies my thoughts to this extent and I haven't just moved on. I was extremely hesitant going in because I find the Targs incredibly boring and distasteful, but I was genuinely shocked to love 1.01-1.03. I had a few blissful weeks of thinking, Not me... liking the Targ show?
I should've known. After that point it started to become demonstrably clear that the writers were only interested in glorifying literally every action taken by Rhaenyra, Daemon, and Viserys at the cost of any other character, especially Alicent. No one has an arc. No one has a consistent personality that coheres with their actions/backstory. All POV scenes center around Rhaenyra. Anyone against Rhaenyra, Daemon, or Viserys is a villain--a misogynist in particular.
There is a blatant double standard between the behavior of these three and of any other character. Everyone on the show commits morally gray acts, but actions are portrayed as good or evil based on which character commits them. The characters don't drive the plot; they exist to exalt Rhaenyra through the events of the F&B story the show is based on. Rhaenyra has no flaws. Alicent has every flaw. Rhaenyra is always the victim and Alicent is at fault for every aspect of her own and Rhaenyra's circumstance. In fact the show goes out of its way to exemplify how Alicent is inferior to Rhaenyra in every way and has no valid reason to go against her besides her own internalized misogyny.
This is not a show about a woman rebelling against a sexist system. It's not even a show about two compelling women navigating the patriarchy and vying for power. This is a show about Rhaenyra being correct all the time, about Rhaenyra being the model of behavior for all women. Her and her family's objectively evil and oppressive actions along the way to her goal were all justified because her being queen is the ultimate achievement for all womankind. Despite the fact that she is literally the richest and most powerful woman on the planet with a dragon and her rapist/pedophile/colonizer father and uncle's favor, other women are somehow her worst oppressors and should act more like her to be better people. #feminism.

ok time for my rousing (baseless) defense of trent crimm the independent (tl;dr skip to last paragraph lol)
tbh i thought we were all on the same page til i went hunting for trent’s 1.03 article and ONLY found kneejerk thinkpieces abt trent being “the worst journalist ever.” I skimmed them to see what evidence they pulled, and there was nothing outside of 2.11. This did explain the trent-apologist fics that popped up immediately after 2.11 though.
Obv, i disagree w the thinkpieces. Completely. this doesn’t reflect upon trent nearly at all, let alone poorly. I don’t blame him for writing the article, for asking for comment after publication, or for ‘revealing’ his source.
first of all, it’s (fictional) sports journalism. the basic stakes are shuffling big money around in the form of professional athletes, already wildly wealthy themselves. the show directly implies that while the media may be a factor in industry choices, it is never the deciding one. (ex: the media builds up an ‘over the hill” reputation for roy, but the team’s decisions abt his value completely disregard that aspect.)
secondly, it’s a nuanced conversation, even in the direct text (no pun intended) of the scene: the wording of the messages, ted’s reaction to each, etc. The core of my argumment is this: we don’t know trent. we don’t know the extent of his friendship with ted, we don’t know how he feels about his job, we don’t even know if he’s a good journalist (when ted asks what trent loves, he agrees that it’s writing – not journalism, football, or richmond).
by my count, we see him out of the press room thrice in the whole series (with jaime in 1.02, episode 1.03, and in the pub in 2.03). Yet ted has his number under “Maybe: Trent Crimm” and bakes trents 3yo birthday cookies. All we know of their friendship is from Ted’s perspective, and the show set up such a stellar foundation that we don’t need to see these things to know that ted is steadily chipping away at trent’s walls - or rather, “hopping over fences.”
And this text thread – in context –  cements the concept. they’re slightly more familiar than “work acquaintances” but nowhere near “genuine friends.” Not close enough for trent to bury the story, or even meet in person, but close enough that trent doesn’t want to participate in the betrayal.
I don’t blame him for writing the article: it’s his job. I don’t fault him for asking ted for comment after the digital article went up – at the least he’s trying to maintain control over an awkward situation, and at most it can still be slipped into either digital or print copy. and despite it apparently being the cardinal sin of journalism, i don’t fault him for revealing his source to ted specifically.
The reason journalists protect anonymous sources is retaliation; vengeful slander of the source, physical confrontations, or economic consequences (losing jobs). But while Trent & Ted aren’t all that close, they’re close enough to stop for a chat in the local pub. Close enough that ted knows trent’s kid’s birthday. close enough that trent gives ted a personal (if belated) heads up abt the article.
if our model for the ted/trent relationship is ted’s other relationships, the ted that trent knows is unabashed, compassionate, and honest. therefore, it’s safe to assume that trent trusts ted. he not only trusts him not to act poorly upon this information shared in confidence, but he also trusts ted not to ruin trent’s journalistic reputation. whether he’s correct remains to be seen, but as of now, ted’s the only one who knows trent’s revealed his source.
and ultimately: it’s a tv show. ultimately, trent’s entire narrative function is the personification of the sports news media. the text message scene did exactly what the narrative needed in order to move forward in a tight, economic, and (imo) clever way. this is not the first time the show has bent logic a little (even aside from beard after hours): nate spontaeously became a coach, jamie goes back to richmond basically bc he wants to, no one tells ted about regulation, etc. The show, like all great narratives, skips past the red-tape practicalities to give us what we want. In both Doylist and Watsonian contexts, trent directly telling ted – and only ted – about Nate’s betrayal protects Nate from the vicious jaws of the outside press while avoiding the miscommunication trope and giving richmond staff the time, space, and safety to work through this internally.

Some maybe/maybe not relevant Ted Lasso thoughts: rewatching 1. 03 ep and oh, does it hit so different now. Not only the 'you've both just met a cool person' repeats - the whole, like, the whole of 1.03 feels a 2.11 well... inverted:
the 'suit' pun in Ted-Nate interaction right at the beginning, only it's Nate providing Ted with a 'fitting silhouette'
Nate presents his idea for the first time and is happy it's considered at all (even assuming that Ted gets the credit)
Nate is called the Great for the first time. He gets his credit without even being aware of it and without seeking for it
The first time Trent Crimm hears about him
Ted's being genuinely enthusiastic and attentive, showing the team how to act (Jamie as a decoy trick practice) vs nervous and agitated 'sad white man' Ted rehearsing 'bye bye bye'
Keeley's friend in the newspaper holding back scandal provoking photos > Rebecca intervenes > they are never published
Keeley learns about Rebecca's nude photos tucked away
Rebecca 'knows the owner' and schemes so that The Independent (more 'reputable', therefore more impactful) goes for the article criticizing Ted.
The 1.03 article is positive and is read out loud by Trent himself, with Leslie emphasizing on those are Trent Crimm's words vs plain text on screen from 'maybe Trent'. The full 2.11 article is yet to be seen but the impact feels like more negative rn
The cinematography of these two moments: kind of dramatic but uplifting vs quiet and devastating.
Roy assertively stands up for Nate, mostly 'behind his back'
Ted's book presents, each containing a personal message. Dr. Sharon's letters (assuming they are just as impactful)
Roy openly confronts Ted about his only to be falling for it at the end of the day. Ted confronts Sharon but it all turned out very heartfelt
A beginning of Roy/Keeley sparkling chemistry (Keeley saying 'I can push all your buttons' and the club scene) vs hints for possible future troubles in Roy/Keeley couple and Jamie (definitely one of Roy's buttons) is a part of it
A person from Richmond spends the day wandering about with an interested outsider, one of them taking the other to some place to make a good impression (Phoebe's school // museum)
Restaurant conversations about regional food and working in a different country / at home and what it means for the community
Ted really just had gastrointestinal problems
Some follow up thoughts:
Is it possible that some of those that wasn't 'mirrored' yet will fire later
Roy's message is about 'the burden of leadership' and 'being the one who can do it'. What is Ted's message? What was in that letter??
Is it also Rupert scheming behind the scenes (as Rebecca did), not just Nate lashing out
A Wrinkle in Time circling back to Ted y/n? I would very much like to see it at some point))
TL;DR: 2.11 mirrors or ties back to 1.03 way more than just 'meeting a cool person' quote (I wonder if it was a hint for the ep ending)

now's the time i guess. I'll probably RB this with more thoughts later but rn I'm trying to fall asleep and i think this will fix me. basically.
In 4.07 It's the Great Pumpkin Sam Winchester, Dean acts in some way that could be interpreted as interest toward a high schooler (at oldest 18, while Dean is probably 29 which. Oof) (it's been a while since I watched the exact scene but I remember thinking that it could potentially be interpreted otherwise, though that might be my Dean apologist/understander brain speaking. He's performing half-hearted interest. Maybe. Idk. I don't make the decisions, I just come up with the possible answers. Take this entire parenthetical with a grain of salt lol). Anyway here's the superwiki transcript.
Tumblr media
(Now without watching it, my parenthetical still stands. From this I can't discern shit about Dean's intentions. Dean licks his lips constantly. He licks his lips before having a thought. Sam also has a history of taking a lot of what Dean does in the context of women in bad faith. Note also that Sam himself is the first person to vocalize it and the framing of a potentially underage girl as jailbait is in itself a potential yikes. But that's not what I'm here to discuss.)
I'm here to discuss. Is Julie Siege responsible for this. Idk, man (gn, I'm Californian). I don't know her. If there's any metanarrative lore associated with this episode, it hasn't come my way yet so. Without further ado. Possible explanations.
Julie Siege wrote this because she thought it was interesting and non-offensive.
Julie Siege wrote this because she thought it was in character for them and no other reason.
Julie Siege wrote this because she was writing to the style of the boys club she was working in. Remember that the Supernatural writers room was a very macho environment, especially S4-5.
Julie Siege wrote this as a way of trying to gain acceptance in that space. See above.
Julie Siege didn't write this. Kripke era scripts were highly collaborative and a single writer would rarely be responsible for the entire script [my source is the 4.03 commentary track. See the superwiki page for a link to a transcript for that]
Modifiers on the above: She didn't write it, 1) but she liked it, 2) but she didn't care, 3) and she didn't like it but kept quiet bc boys club, or 4) and she didn't like it and argued against it but was shot down. Oh and 5) It was added in after the script was out of her hands entirely.
Julie Siege didn't write this. It was ad libbed in or it came into creation on the day of filming some other way (directorial choice? idk how these things work)
All of this specifically to say. At the end of the day you really just don't know if a writer is responsible for small moments or certain lines, particularly in the Kripke era. I have other thoughts about the probability of such things in the other eras but that's a post for another time.
So like. Yeah. It's hard to attribute certain specific items or "crimes" to certain writers unless you definitely know for sure and with confirmation (or unless there are observable patterns that heavily suggest it) that it was something that they wrote or endorsed. In the Kripke era.
There's a S1 or S2 extra (i think it was for 1.03 dead in the water) where i think it was Sera Gamble who says. People will come up to you about an episode you wrote and be like, oh i really liked this line! But most of the time it was a line that someone else wrote. Which is basically the tl;dr for this post.
So yeah tl;dr: the inner workings of television writing are more complex than one might initially assume, so don't assume anything. (Insert my prior disclaimers here.)

Masterpost on the Hong Kong Extradition Amendment Law Bill
I’ve struggled for a while whether to make a separate and anonymous tumblr blog/email account just to post this, since there have already been arrests made on university students as well as police officers showing up at the house of an admin from a Telegram group that organizes the protest and searching the place. But I know it in my heart that I do no wrong in speaking up. If I do end up facing legal consequences for doing this, then it only further proves my point on how dangerous it has become to live in this once beloved city.
Hong Kong citizens are protesting against the government’s proposed Extradition Law Amendment Bill (“Fugitive Offenders and Mutual Legal Assistance in Criminal Matters Legislation (Amendment) Bill 2019” in full) that would allow people accused of offense to be handed over to Mainland China, Taiwan, and Macau upon request with only prima facie level evidence provided to the court. The bill has raised serious concerns and opposition for its possible violations against freedom of speech, judicial independence, and Hong Kong’s autonomy under One Country Two Systems, etc. With incidents such as the disappearance of the five staff members working in Causeway Bay bookstore, many fear that the passing of this bill will allow China to request extradition from ANYONE, INCLUDING THOSE WHO ARE NOT RESIDENTS who dare to speak in any form against the CCP and step foot in Hong Kong even only for transition.
Because of this proposed amendment, Hong Kong people have taken to the streets and other acts of protest to voice our disagreement. But our democracy and rights are being stripped away by a government that will not budge even with over 1 million people (one seventh of our population) marching to be heard or seeing students being tear gassed and shot by rubber bullets. The government is refusing to listen to its people, instead it is using unnecessary force on us through its police force and calling us rioters when all we did was gather together and protect ourselves.
As of right now (16th June, 03:00 GMT+8), there has already been one casualty in our fight to be heard. The government has only promised to pause the passing of the bill, meaning that at ANY TIME the Legislative Council can restart the reading process on the bill. Though we still feel suppressed and carry a heavy heart, we will not lose hope. If its citizens are not enough, we are wishing for louder international attention to give the government more pressure to COMPLETELY WITHDRAW the bill to safeguard Hong Kong’s democracy.
PLEASE HELP US STAY INFORMED AND SPREAD THE WORD ON ANY DEVELOPMENT TO AID OUR PROTEST FOR FREEDOM. MORE WAYS TO HELP INCLUDE:

I completely forgot that Whale was actually a nice guy in 1.06 (”The Shepherd”).
Like, first he’s being supportive of David at the “welcome home” party.
Tumblr media
(screencap from butterflycaps)
And then he befriends Mary Margaret at Granny’s.
Tumblr media
(gif by emmaswanned)
He’s not being sleazy—he’s just genuinely listening and trying to cheer her up. (Earlier in the episode he apologizes for how terrible their date in 1.03 went, and his responsibility in that, so he’s probably trying to make up for that, too.) And in the next episode we learn that they have a very consensual one-night stand—which includes him sending her flowers the next day. That’s far from the caricature of Whale we get later, right?
I liked seeing him and MM being friends and I wish we got to see more of this Whale. I for one totally forgot we saw this side of him, especially during the curse.
So, yeah, the whole “one-night-stand-with-Whale” running joke... it’s definitely different. It’s actually kind of dark, given that David holds on to that fact when he was the reason Snow was with Whale that night in the first place.
TL;DR—friendly Whale isn’t so far outside of canon as I’d thought. :D

Akaryakıt eserlerinden alınan özel tüketim vergisinin (ÖTV) artırılmasına reaksiyon gösteren Erbakan, "Resmi Gazete'de yayınlanan Cumhurbaşkanı kararına nazaran ÖTV ölçüsü 95 oktan akaryakıtta litre başına 0.86 TL’den 1.33 TL’ye, 98 oktan akaryakıtta 1.03 TL’den 1.58 TL’ye çıkarıldı. How did u make arenea go to galdin quay?
Sorry for the late response! Didn’t see the notification until now.
I glitched her into my party using this method (x). However, Square Enix has patched this glitch in the 1.04 update - so it’s no longer possible to gain Aranea as a permanent party member.
That is, unless you’re willing to uninstall the latest update. But then you’d need to use a save file compatible with whichever patch you’re using (e.g. patch 1.03).
Hope that helps!
-
tl;dr Aranea glitch doesn’t work with patch 1.04 or save files created after patch 1.04

why yuuri’s GPF SP score still doesn’t make sense to me
i was just rewatching ep 11 yesterday and i dunno??? i still do not get how he only scored a 97.83 so i did some comparisons. keep in mind that i do get this is an anime and i can’t expect it to be exactly like how real figure skating is scored, but real figure skating scores are only half of the reason why i’m puzzled about this. if y’all wanna see me rant about how this doesn’t make too much sense to me, keep reading under the cut.
ooooohkay! so imma do two comparisons: one with scores from real figure skating and another with yuuri himself’s past scores. we know already that base values in the yoi universe are the same as they are in the real world thanks to korea’s own seung-gil lee, who was nice enough to call out the base values of the jumps in his head as he was skating at rostelecom lmao (he said that his quad loop was base value 12.0, which is the same as the real world.)
・COMPARISON WITH REAL FIGURE SKATING
okay, so seeing how in yoi yuuri seems to get pretty high PCS (program component scores, or the part of the score that is supposed to be a representation of the skater’s skating skills, transitions, performance, composition and interpretation of the music… but it can be pretty subjective. i’m not gonna get into that here because that’s another topic) in his programs. so i’m going to compare him with yuzuru hanyu because yuzuru also gets high PCS in his programs, meaning we can just eliminate talking about PCS altogether and just talk about how the jumps account for the point difference. but what about spins, you say? this isn’t a proven fact or anything, but i’ve seen that skaters that get decent PCS usually have decent spins too, and in the anime i’ve never seen them talk about yuuri having bad spinning technique so again, let me assume his spins are good enough. (basically i just wanna focus on the jumps okey)
so yuuri got a 97.83 for his SP at the grand prix finals. yuzuru, on the other hand, got a 106.53 at the GPF in 2016. the point difference there is 8.70. let me tell you why i think this is peculiar.
1) the base values for their jump content
yuzuru’s jump content for the SP is quad loop (4Lo), quad salchow-triple toeloop (4S-3T), and triple axel (3A). of all of those, only the 3A is in the back half of the program, meaning that it’s the only jump that gets the base value bonus (x1.1, or 110% of the original base value). his base value for jumps is 36.15.
dear katsudon yuuri’s jump content is 3A, 4S-3T, and the quad flip (4F). all of them are in the back half of the program, meaning his base value would be 39.16. so already at this point, yuuri has 3.01 points on yuzuru.
2) the GOEs (grade of execution)
the grade of execution for a jump determines how well it was performed. GOEs range from -3 to +3, but there are nine judges to a panel, so each judge will make their own GOE call and the scores will be added up and divided by nine to determine the final GOE. this will either be added or subtracted to the base value, and that will be the jump (or jump combination)’s final score.
yuzuru got a -1.03 GOE on his 4Lo, a +2.57 on his 4S-3T, and a +2.43 on the 3A. his total final score for these three jumps is 40.12.
in yuuri’s case, we have no protocol but the commentators did mention that his 3A and 4S-3T were pretty solid, so let’s say they got +2.3 GOE each (which is good, but not unbelievably high). what about his hand down on the 4F, then? the ISU (international skating union) handbook for scoring says that the final GOE of the jump when a skater touches one hand to the ice on landing is up to the panel (meaning it could end up being positive, whereas for mistakes such as if the skater falls the final GOE MUST BE negative) but it recommends that judges give -1.00 GOE for it. so if yuuri got a final -1 GOE for his 4F, his total final score for the three jumps would be 42.76. even if yuuri only got +2.0 GOE for his 3A and his 4S-3T, his score would still be 42.16.
verdict: it seems unlikely that yuuri would have scored under 100 when comparing with yuzuru’s scores, even when considering his mistake on the 4F.
・COMPARISON WITH YUURI HIMSELF’S SCORES
yuuri’s personal best for the SP was at the rostelecom cup where he scored 109.97. that is, like, a hella good score. that’s 12.14 points more than what he got at GPF. it’s inevitable that yuuri scored lower at GPF, he had mistakes there whereas he skated perfectly at rostelecom, you might say. BUT WAIT!
yuuri CHANGED his jump content after rostelecom.
his jump content up to the rostelecom cup was 3A, 4S, and 4T-3T, again with all of them in the back half of the program. his base value would have been 36.96. let’s say he got +2.3 GOE for all of the jumps, and that would be 43.86. that’s only 1.7 points more than the case scenario i mentioned earlier in which yuuri got +2.0 GOE for his first two jumps and -1.0 for the 4F at the GPF, and 1.1 points more than if he got +2.3 GOE for his first two jumps. if yuuri had gotten +2.0 GOE for all of his jumps at rostelecom, his score for the jumps would be less than one point higher than at GPF.
the TES for spins and step sequences and the PCS rarely fluctuate significantly for a skater, so again, something seems off about this.
verdict: yuuri’s score for the SP would have been higher at rostelecom than at GPF, yes, but not by a margin as large as 12.14.

22 Milyar TL’lik sukuk ihracı
Vakıf Katılım’dan ülke ekonomisine 22 Milyar TL’lik sukuk ihracı ile destek
2016 yılında sektörün referans kurumu olma hedefiyle yola çıkan Vakıf Katılım, özellikle kira sertifikası (sukuk) ihracında sektörün lideri konumuna yükseldi. Son 3 yılda 22 milyar TL’lik kira sertifikası ihracı rakamına ulaşırken, en son 2 Temmuz 2020 tarihinde gerçekleştirdiği 1.03 milyar TL’lik işlemle katılım finans kurumları arasında bir günde en yüksek tutarlı kira sertifikası (sukuk) ihracına imza atan kurum oldu.
  ‘’Referans kurum olduk’’
Vakıf Katılım Genel Müdürü İkram Göktaş konuyla ilgili yaptığı açıklamada, “2016 yılında referans kurum olma hedefiyle yola çıktık. Aradan geçen süreye ve geldiğimiz noktaya baktığımızda hedeflerimize ulaştığımızı görüyoruz. Özellikle sektörü ve ülke ekonomisini büyütme, yurt içi ve yurt dışı yatırımcılara ulaşma noktasında etkin olarak kullandığımız kira sertifikası (sukuk) ihracında tartışmasız referans kurum olduk. Örneğin, 2019 yılındaki 36 tertip ihracımızla nitelikli yatırımcılarımızdan toplamda yaklaşık 9.01 milyar TL’lik fon sağlayarak, 2019 yılında yurt içi piyasada en çok TL kira sertifikası ihracı gerçekleştiren katılım finans kurumu olduk. 2 Temmuz 2020 itibarıyla tedavülde on adet, toplamda yaklaşık 2.7 milyar TL’lik kira sertifikamız bulunuyor” dedi.

Read the full article
