My love of both college and professional sports has been a huge part of my personality ever since I was child. Recently I’ve been thinking a lot more about why I love the sports that I love, and dislike others. This led me to consider getting more into soccer. Partially because of its inclusive nature and accessibility to lower income communities, partially because I’m not a fan of any Pittsburgh professional sports team and there is no PGH Basketball team but there is a pro Soccer team in PGH, and lastly because the Lemon Seed has started a soccer program for toddlers (local chapter was founded by a former @riverhoundssc player) and he loves it. Ghana youth international Ropapa Mensah eyes more goals for Pittsburgh Riverhounds

Former Ghana U-20 forward Ropapa Mensah hopes to score more goals for Pittsburgh Riverhounds after netting his first for the club in their big win against Philadelphia Union II.  The former Inter Allies attacker grabbed the opener in Riverhounds 6-0 thrashing of Union II in the USL championship on Saturday night. The lethal forward scored to break the game's duck after 29 minutes, with a sublime cheeky chip over the goalkeeper. "Definetely first of many, we move," he posted on Social Media after the game. Riverhounds scored 5 more goals afterwards to complete the mauling to make two wins out of two games this campaign. Mensah was substituted in the 64th minute. The 22-year old has now recorded 1 goal and 2 assists with Riverhounds so far this term.

The season has come to a close

With the Hounds season coming to a close after an exciting playoff run, we must prepare for next season. 

Over the coming weeks, I expect to receive a lot of valuable hours at the Riverhounds working alongside Jordan and the marketing team, conceptualizing and preparing for what next season has in store. We have to maintain our sponsorships and think of new potential partnerships that would benefit us in Station Square and in the local areas. 

I think something that will benefit the Riverhounds and create buzz for the fans to get excited about next season would be a new club hashtag we use to cover all things Hounds related. The Hounds have used #Unleash and #TogetherWeHunt previously, but I think these can come off a little bit vague to the casual soccer fan as the sport continues to grow in Pittsburgh. Some of my ideas to pitch to the rest of the team are:

#RHSC- a simple take on “River-Hounds Soccer Club” that is true to the club identity and easy to type.

#HOUNDS- a way to represent the team that sticks out among the crowd of other sports team’s hashtags

#HoundsLive- I believe this can drive fan engagement and gain impressions during live events.

These are some ideas I have been conceptualizing this week and I'm excited to share my thoughts with the marketing and social media teams and see what they think. I think if we incorporate very strong and simplistic hashtags universally across digital and print media, the fans would have an easier time remembering what to use when they make their own posts.
