It’s a picture of Riddle and Harry.
In it Harry sports a tense smile, the kind Hermione only ever saw back when they were in Hogwarts. When the new younger years would approach him and ask for his autograph, ask to see his scar and fall all over themselves to meet him. Ron liked to call it Harry’s ‘fake face’, and even though those days they were hard-pressed to agree on anything, both vehemently agreed they hated seeing that look on Harry.
She cringes the longer she looks at him—Harry’s so stiff! With his arms crossed (a self-soothing habit, Hermione knows) and his awkward little lean to the left. Goodness, Harry looks mid bolt like he’d do anything to get out of that situation right now.
It’s all made even worse because, in comparison to the near statue stillness of Harry, Tom Riddle is like a whole movie.
Hermione watches (with a slightly morbid fascination) how Riddle’s eyes meet the camera with pinpoint accuracy. How he grins slowly, his confidence visible in its wide fullness. Distracted, she wonders if all his self-assuredness comes from that dimple on his right cheek? Then she scoffs and definitely knows it’s at least partly responsible for Riddle’s many features in Witch Weekly.
It all lasts only a handful of seconds before Riddle’s gaze strays back to Harry, and it takes multiple loops before she confirms: yes, Riddle does actually frown when he looks Harry’s way. It’s the slightest, faintest frown she’s ever seen in her life, but it is there, and it pulls all that confident smugness of his down with it. After, Riddle suddenly shifts towards Harry, maybe to get closer, but the picture resets before Hermione can see if he follows through.
It’s such an odd little moment, both of them dressed in formal robes and clearly caught by surprise. Where was this photo even taken? How does it even exist in the first place? Surely whoever took it saw Harry’s stiffness or how Riddle broke pose too soon? Surely they’d vanish it, unusable as it was, not at all cover page or picture book material.
It’s even odder when Hermione takes a moment to realise that this photo must mean an awful lot to Riddle…for him to have gone out of his way to frame it for his desk… Actually, could this be the only photo of them together? It feels so impossible considering the meetings and galas and events, all seemingly never-ending.
Oh. It clicks to Hermione in a flash that it very well can’t be the only photo of them together, but possibly it’s the only photo of them alone. Just them. No one else to their sides, on their arms, or in the foreground and background.
With a steadying inhale, an overwhelming feeling of awe fills her. It grows, starting in the middle of her chest and pushes its way up to the rosy blush of her cheeks. Hermione stands in Riddle’s private study, shocked and wholly blindsided, wondering just how long exactly Tom Riddle has been pining over Harry Potter.

still thinking about shiv trying to blackmail with zero leverage (and being so shiv-ly sure she didn't need any... girl) the one person on this show sociopathic enough to live consistently by gerri's maxim (how does this serve my interests); and also, relatedly, the fact that the conversation greg and shiv had, in which he asked "what's in it for me" and she said "nothing," is essentially the same as the conversation greg and tom had at the top of the episode, and i am really wondering if tom's refusal to settle that question for greg yet is going to become relevant sometime in the final two episodes, the way that shiv's refusal to settle that question for tom became extremely relevant in the finale of season 3

Tom has suchhhh thin skin for social dings like hello?? It feels not just sensitive but entitled. He can’t even stand a night of low level rude comments? And he angrily blames his wife for not destroying their combined position defending him each and every time? Like the real victory would be taking the rude comments in stride but then working to either not get fired or moving laterally or up to a great position anyway.
But no he has to have his ego stroked 24/7 especially by his wife because that’s literally what his “career” is about.

the thing is. yeah kendall feels like his whole life now is worth nothing. the one thing he was always meant to do, since he was seven years old he now cannot do. he will never get to do it. so he might as well die, right? he might as well end it all but the thing is life is never that kind nor generous. so i think kendall will try and fail. and he’ll try again and again but the world will keep its grip on him and eventually he’ll just stop trying. and yeah maybe he’ll never be a whole person (we’re nothing) maybe he’ll take logan’s advice and collect sports cars or write a book or start a new company but either way he’ll be forced to start anew. kendall logan roy died it’s just kendall now. and this outcome in itself is generous in a way because circumstances out of his control have kind of forced him to hold some accountability for his own life finally instead of counting on broken promises his father made him at 7 years old. he’s actually being forced to Be instead of just living up to someone else’s name. and he actually has people around him who still undoubtedly care. he’s sick and horrible and twisted but he is still ultimately lovable. he is still a human being weeping on the dirty ground even though he has spent so long trying not to be. even though he recanted the very thing that made him Real. the world will simply not relinquish its hold on him! tragic but somewhat hopeful in a way

Okay hold up I want to clarify some things as someone who has way too much Tom and Jerry facts memorized
1. "Blue Cat Blues (1956)" [Sad one where it ends with them on the railroad] was NOT the last episode of Tom and Jerry. Hell it wasn't even the last one in it's era.
Okay so the fact Tom and Jerry still has many new episodes after 1956 already means it isn't the last episode of Tom and Jerry. But, if you want to be specific, it's part of the 1st Hanna-Barbera era which lasted from 1940-1958. Notice how it continues for 2 years past the date this episode aired.
The last episode of that era was Tot Watchers. Where Tom and Jerry work together to keep a baby safe. There is 11 episodes between "Blue Cat Blues" and "Tot Watchers", one of which is "Timid Tabby", the episode that introduced Tom's Cousin George.
2. Tom and Jerry do NOT just pretend to hate one another so Tom does not get kicked out of the house.
This one is true in certain shorts. Most obviously in "Old Rockin' Chair Tom" (1948) where Tom and Jerry team up against Lightning.
BUT at the same time, it's obviously not true for all the shorts. For instance any time Tom and Jerry don't take place in a home or times where there isn't even a human shown. Like "Kitty Foiled" (1948) where we start with a Tom and Jerry chase despite no humans being shown.
Or in "Solid Sernade"(1946) where Tom is ruining Jerry's sleep by singing to Toodles.

They do work together sometimes but the vast majority of the chases are due to them wanting to chase each other, or one of them annoying the other. Tom's owners only sometimes are the driving force behind Tom trying to attack Jerry. (Also in the shorts where Tom's owners do tell him to get Jerry... he usually isn't only pretending to get Jerry. He's actively trying to eliminate him)
3. Jerry ISN'T the thing Tom hates most in the world
He's just not (or at least...not often). I know I said earlier they just love to attack one another, but they do also save one another often. At the least, they do team up against common enemies, suggesting they often find one another as the lesser of two evils, and therefore they hate their common enemy more than each other.

In a few episodes, such as "Mouse into Space" (1962), or the Tom and Jerry show (2014) episode "I quit", Tom is shown to go into a depression without Jerry.
Again, this is of course, case dependent. Tom does hate Jerry in some shorts (the very early ones, usually). Then again there's many times where they explicitly don't hate each other.
The Tom and Jerry show (1975) [2nd Hanna-Barbera era] has Tom and Jerry be friends throughout.

It depends on the short. Nothing and everything is canon. Except the whole "ThE lAsT EpIsOdE oF ToM aNd JeRrY" thing. That's just false and easily proved fake by a quick search.

I’m thinking about the use of the licensed tv show theme songs in some of Marcy’s backstory episodes (Simon & Marcy and Everything Stays (Stakes Part 2))
#it’s just so. human. and I think these being ‘real’ songs make it even more so#like it’s so.. before everything. before the mushroom war. Simon singing the cheers theme song to entertain Marcy and keep himself sane#the humans singing the them song from mr.Belvedere#like what two bread Tom said ‘As humans it's our duty to tell the tales to sing the songs. Art must survive.“#latching onto the few things that lasted over the mushroom bombs.#preserving the songs that they enjoyed. one of the few pleasures that were left in ooo#it’s just… so human ?? idk if this makes sense#also how both times they are sharing the music.. the humans all know the song as it has been shared throughout their tribe and preserved#Simon singing Marcy the cheers song the first time.. just trying to entertain her. living in the post apocalyptic land that ooo was at that#time wasn’t easy. we saw that in the episode and the second time Simon sung it. but the little moments like this are always so. human.#AND THE SECOND TIME. Simon using the cheers theme to keep himself sane. for Marceline. he having to use the crown to protect Marceline and#himself from the mutants. we can clearly see him losing himself to the crown but the music helped make him not completely lose himself to th#crown. and it’s just so. so human.#gods#can you tell I’m so normal about adventure time#I’m so sane and adjusted about it#and them being real life theme songs makes it even more. like these are songs people know. You didn’t understand how some people on the internet can be so . . . mean. Although there have been countless of fans cheering you and Tom on, it didn’t make it any less hurtful that there were still a ton who weren’t scared to be open about how much your boyfriend could do better.
It’s ironic; you think. They’re claiming they’re looking out for Tom, yet totally disregarding him and his girlfriend as human beings? Those weren’t real fans.
The reason for them hating you so much? Just for simply being with Tom. Everybody wanted him, that was your crime.
Everytime you got lost in your thoughts about this topic, Tom knew. Boyfriend instincts, he called them, but really, he was just a caring and observant person.
You tried not to break down over it, you really did, but a girl could only go on for so long before it all bursts out. Luckily, Tom pulls you right in, telling you to let it all out.
Although the world was filled with childish and hurtful beings, Tom Blyth was still who he was, a gentleman, attending to your every needs.
