If there was something called the “match of the round,” this deserved to be one. Not only the shot-making spectacle became the biggest highlight of this match, but also how Etcheverry completed the comeback trying to outhit Zapata Miralles at the end of the day. The statistics might have several interesting things to say in this regard.

Etcheverry scored 9 more aces than Zapata Miralles, winning 4% more points from there despite Zapata Miralles landed 74% of them in. Furthermore, Etcheverry still won 8% more points from his second serves, implying Zapata Mralles’ 5 double faults might not help anything.

On the other hand, Etcheverry’s controlled aggression was visible from the way he constructed his points by scoring 38 more winners, and despite having 66 unforced errors, the risk was worth the reward as he maximized his chances (6).
