What If Scenario. The Pandemic never happened, but the renovations at Her Majesty’s eventually did. During that time, they put together a concert-like production of Phantom like they did with Les Mis in 2019. Who would you have cast in each part? Feel free to include Ensemble & Understudies
I think I answered something very similar before where I said that I'd love to have had an international celebration, with recent, fan-favorite, or long-running members from productions all over the world given an opportunity to perform and do, like, one song each, along with the then-current cast at the time. So I guess it might be something like:
Phantom: Josh Piterman (London), Ben Crawford (Broadway), Derrick Davis (national tour), Osamu Takai (Japan), Alexander Goebel (Vienna), Colm Wilkinson (Toronto), Peter Karrie (Canadian tour), Peter Joback (Stockholm), Ian Jon Bourg (Germany), Anthony Warlow (Australia), Henk Poort (Scheveningen), Juan Navarro (Mexico City), Hans Peter Janssens (Antwerp), Tomas Ambt Kofod (Copenhagen), Hong Kwang Ho (Seoul), Juan Carlos Barona (Madrid), Sandor Sasvari (Budapest), Saulo Vasconcelos (Sao Paulo), Damian Aleksander (Poland), Carlos Vittori (Buenos Aires), Marian Vojtko (Prague), Stephen Brandt Hansen (Estonia), Ivan Ozhogin (Moscow), Ilkka Hamalainen (Helsinki), Adrian Nour (Bucharest), Nikola Bulatovic (Belgrade), Vladimir Grudkov (Sofia), Jonathan Roxmouth (World Tour), Espen Grjotheim (Oslo), Ben Forster (Greece), Killian Donnelly (UK Tour)
Christine: Kelly Mathieson (London), Meghan Picerno (Broadway), Emma Grimsley (national tour), Sae Yamamoto (Japan), Luzia Nistler (Vienna), Rebecca Caine (Toronto), Teresa DeZarn (Canadian tour), Emmi Christensson (Stockholm), Valerie Link (Germany), Ana Marina (Australia), Joke de Kruijf (Scheveningen), Irasema Terrazas (Mexico City), Inneke van Klinken (Antwerp), Sibylle Glosted (Copenhagen), Kim So Hyun (Seoul), Julia Moller (Madrid), Barbara Fonyo (Budapest), Lina Mendes (Sao Paulo), Edyta Krzemien (Poland), Claudia Cota (Buenos Aires), Monika Sommerova (Prague), Maria Listra (Estonia), Tamara Kotova (Moscow), Sofie Asplund (Helsinki), Irina Baiant (Bucharest), Mirjana Matic (Belgrade), Vesela Delcheva (Sofia), Claire Lyon (World Tour), Astrid Giske (Oslo), Amy Manford (Greece), Holly-Anne Hull (UK Tour)
Raoul: Danny Whitehead (London), John Riddle (Broadway), Michael Maliakel (national tour), Kanji Ishimaru (Japan), Thorsten Tinney (Vienna), Laird Mackintosh (Toronto), Kip Wilborne (Canadian tour), Anton Zetterholm (Stockholm), Nicky Wuchinger (Germany), Alexander Lewis (Australia), Peter de Smet (Scheveningen), someone who's not Jose Joel (Mexico City), Michael Shawn Lewis (Antwerp), Christian Lund (Copenhagen), Son Jun Ho (Seoul), Armando Pita (Madrid), Zoltan Miller (Budapest), Nando Prado (Sao Paulo), Marcin Mrozinski (Poland), Nicholas Martinelli (Buenos Aires), Tomas Vanek (Prague), Koit Toome (Estonia), Evgeny Zaycev (Moscow), John Martin Bengtsson (Helsinki), Florin Ristei (Bucharest), Slaven Doslo (Belgrade), Denko Prodanov (Sofia), Matt Leisy (World Tour), Carl Lindquist (Oslo), Nadim Naaman (Greece), Rhys Whitfield (UK Tour)
Is that way too many cast members? Probably! Are there even enough scenes for each of them to perform together? Unlikely! Did I give up doing supporting, ensemble, and understudies because it was too exhausting? Definitely! Do I even know who some of these people are or if they want to come back at all? Not really!
But you have to admit - it's a huge and very international cast!

Theater Thought
Tumblr media
In light of recent events happening on Broadway this month, One being particularly heartbreaking and devastating for me, I’ve decided to share a thought I have been having for a while now regarding theater
When a show opens on Broadway in New York, or in London’s West End, or anywhere else for that matter, people want to see it live on the stage because let me tell you, having the opportunity to see a show live is such a wonderful experience.
However, many people are not able to do that for one reason or another, be it money issues, unable to travel, etc.
It is for this reason that Touring Productions of these shows are created in order to allow more people to see them closer to where they live as opposed to having to go through all the trouble of traveling to New York or London or wherever they are to see it
However, I personally feel that there is another secret reason for these Touring Productions. To insure that the show still continues to play when the original production is no more
When the Covid-19 Pandemic hit in 2020, all of Broadway was forced to shut down their shows. While many shows on Broadway returned like Phantom, Aladdin, and Wicked, others like Frozen and Mean Girls were closed permanently.
However, while they may have closed on Broadway, their respective National Tours resumed performances when live theater was allowed to come back
This made me think about other shows on Broadway that closed yet still continued to play in the  U.S. due to the their Touring Productions
When Les Miserables closed on Broadway in 2016, a National Tour was launched literally the following year. When Waitress closed on Broadway in 2020, its U.S. Tour still continued to perform.
Even shows that have long since closed on Broadway like Anastasia, Pretty Women, & Cats, not to mention shows that have recently or in the process of closing like Beetlejuice, Dear Evan Hansen & The Phantom of the Opera are still able to have performances within the U.S. due to their ongoing Touring Productions.
Due to all these bits of information, I had come to the conclusion that if a show closes, either on Broadway, the West End , or anywhere else, they should launch a Touring Production of that particular show
This would allow the show to continue playing, but not be restricted to a specific theater venue. They could even have more than one Touring Production to make it even more accessible for people. Wicked had two National Tours running simultaneously at one point while Hamilton had Three National Tours prior to Covid in 2020
Of course no plan is without its flaws and I have thought of a few things that should be taken into account regarding Touring Productions of Theater Shows
1) Theater Venue Availability:
Even though a show may be on tour, that doesn’t necessarily mean that particular show would come to any venues around your area. I can personally recall numerous shows that I have wanted to see on Tour, but never once came to any theaters close to where I live. There of course were shows that had come to theaters around the area I live, however, it sometimes takes them a good few years before they ever get there.
2) Specific Performer Availability:
When I say “Performer Availability,” I am not referring to going to see a show and the Understudy is on for the part, I’m referring to when a particular performer has left the production entirely. Like any long running theater show, actors come and go from them, so even if a Touring show comes to where you live, there is the possibility that a certain cast member may have left the production. Now, if you are not concerned about seeing a particular performer and are just going to see the show, this would probably not be a problem. However, if you are seeing a touring production in order to see a certain performer in a role, that may raise some issues
3) Life of a Touring Performer:
Being a performer in a Touring Production of a show has its Pros and Cons. The Cons of of course having to live out of a suitcase, and depending on the show, having to take shelter and transportation for yourself into account. The Pros are of course getting the opportunity to travel and experience all sorts of different things like trying new restaurants and meeting new people at the different stops of the Tour.
Despite these flaws, I still think it would be a good idea to have a Touring Production of a show if it were to close because there are so many amazing shows that have closed far to soon and this would be a great way to not only keep the shows alive and give theater audiences a chance to experience them for the not just the First time, but also not the Last time.

PHANTOM “PHAN” THEORY
Tumblr media
These thoughts have been on my mind for a long time now and now I’d like to share a Theory I have had with all of you
Just to be clear this is merely a Theory I came up with a while back. There is no 100% Confirmation that any of this is true, but there is nothing that is denying it either
So Please take what you are about to read with a grain of salt and remember that you are more than welcome to agree or disagree with what you are about to read
With that out of the way, Let’s talk about the Cast for the 2021 Phantom of the Opera West End Revival
Specifically The Role of “The Phantom”
When the 2020 UK & Ireland Tour of Phantom of the Opera was announced, I was very excited for this cast. However, myself and many others couldn’t help but notice an interesting bit included in the announcement:
[Please note: Killian Donnelly will play the role of ‘The Phantom’ in Leicester, Manchester, Dublin and Birmingham. Casting for the role of ‘The Phantom’ from Edinburgh onwards will be announced in due course]

Besides Phantom, are there any other Musicals that you are fond of?
Oh yes! I can perform a one woman show of: Hamilton, Chicago, Sweeney Todd, THE LION KING, The Book of Mormon, Avenue Q (although that’s aged… not well) Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, any Disney musical. Now for those I appreciate but don’t know the entirety by heart: Fiddler on the Roof (I know, bad Jew) West Side Story, Hadestown,  Cabaret, Little Shop of Horrors, Nevermore, The Producers, etc. Basically, if you’re asking, “hey Silver, do you want to see this musical?” the answer is I WILL ALWAYS DRESS UP AND GO SEE A MUSICAL. I detest Newsies and there is a special place in hell for Bye Bye Birdie.

Have you ever heard of this stage show from the Universal Studios Theme Parks called "Beetlejuice's Graveyard Revue"? The original version from the 90s featured The Phantom of the Opera.
I have not, but given how popular Phantom was back when it opened and into the early 90s, it does not surprise me to hear it’s music was used; I’m sure other venues or whatever did the same thing to evoke, I don’t know, anything vaguely haunted or spooky.

I read that Hugh Jackman and Anne Hathaway (Les Mis 2012 Valjean & Fantine) were originally chosen to play The Phantom and Christine in the 2004 film but, had to drop out due to working on other films. How do you think they would have been in the roles? Also, do you think Amanda Seyfried, who played Cosette in the 2012 film, would make a good Christine?
I want to say that, vocally, Jackman and Hathaway might have been marginally better than Butler and Rossum, but in terms of acting, they might be around the same.
I’ve listened to Hugh Jackman mainly in Les Mis and The Greatest Showman (and not very extensively in the last). To me, he sounds like he has more training than Gerard Butler did; however, that doesn’t necessarily mean he can sing Phantom well or that it’s within his range. I remember absolutely cringing through most of his songs in Les Mis, particularly his half-shouted rendition of ‘Bring Him Home’.
For Hathaway, as with Jackman, her voice might have been slightly better than Rossum, but probably not by much? Again, going off Les Mis, she sounds like she has some training, but her voice is still pretty thin. How do I say this... it’s good for someone from Hollywood who probably hasn’t sung a lot in her career, but nothing compared to someone who actually does musical theater. She’d probably be adequate, but nothing to write home about.
With acting, I imagine that Jackman would probably be on par with Butler (whose acting I actually enjoyed), while Hathaway, who is a bit older than Rossum, might have brought a little more maturity and spunk to Christine. But a lot of my complaints with the acting in the 2004 film really have less to do with the actors and more to do with direction. It seems like Butler was directed to make his Phantom young and sexy and Rossum to make Christine young, wide-eyed, and passive, and I don’t think a change in actors would really affect that.
As for Amanda Seyfried as Christine, she’d probably have the innocent naivete down, but that voice. Too soft, too thin, with the warbliest vibrato I’ve ever heard; I don’t think I could stand 1.5 hours of her singing. So no, I don’t think she’s ready for Christine or for any role with extensive singing; I’d want her to get more training first.

What are your thoughts on the rumor of Ramin Karimloo being the next Broadway Phantom?
My thought is that it’s unlikely, though not impossible. I know Ramin Karimloo has said that he’s pretty much done with Phantom after the 25th anniversary, and while he might go back on his word, I think it’d only be for something pretty unique and interesting, like opening cast of a new production or something (e.g. like the way Sierra Boggess joined the Paris production - the opportunity to be the opening principal Christine of the first French production is pretty big).
