ON THE DAY I DIE..

On the day I die a lot will happen.

A lot will change.

The world will be busy.

On the day I die, all the important appointments I made will be left unattended.

The many plans I had yet to complete will remain forever undone.

The calendar that ruled so many of my days will now be irrelevant to me.

All the material things I so chased and guarded and treasured will be left in the hands of others to care for or to discard.

The words of my critics which so burdened me will cease to sting or capture anymore. They will be unable to touch me.

The arguments I believed I’d won here will not serve me or bring me any satisfaction or solace.

All my noisy incoming notifications and texts and calls will go unanswered. Their great urgency will be quieted.

My many nagging regrets will all be resigned to the past, where they should have always been anyway.

Every superficial worry about my body that I ever labored over; about my waistline or hairline or frown lines, will fade away.

My carefully crafted image, the one I worked so hard to shape for others here, will be left to them to complete anyway.

The sterling reputation I once struggled so greatly to maintain will be of little concern for me anymore.

All the small and large anxieties that stole sleep from me each night will be rendered powerless.

The deep and towering mysteries about life and death that so consumed my mind will finally be clarified in a way that they could never be before while I lived.

These things will certainly all be true on the day that I die.

Yet for as much as will happen on that day, one more thing that will happen.

On the day I die, the few people who really know and truly love me will grieve deeply.

They will feel a void.

They will feel cheated.

They will not feel ready.

They will feel as though a part of them has died as well.

And on that day, more than anything in the world they will want more time with me.

I know this from those I love and grieve over.

And so knowing this, while I am still alive I’ll try to remember that my time with them is finite and fleeting and so very precious—and I’ll do my best not to waste a second of it.

I’ll try not to squander a priceless moment worrying about all the other things that will happen on the day I die, because many of those things are either not my concern or beyond my control.

Friends, those other things have an insidious way of keeping you from living even as you live; vying for your attention, competing for your affections.

They rob you of the joy of this unrepeatable, uncontainable, ever-evaporating Now with those who love you and want only to share it with you.

Don’t miss the chance to dance with them while you can.

It’s easy to waste so much daylight in the days before you die.

Don’t let your life be stolen every day by all that you believe matters, because on the day you die, much of it simply won’t.

Yes, you and I will die one day.

But before that day comes: let us live.

I have a lot of work to do on myself. I have a real difficult time with intimate relationships. I end up hurting myself and the people I care about. I truly believe I am just better off alone. It is funny how you think your growing and healed. Then situations, people, etc can bring it all back in an instant. Life lesson healing, growth and being better than yesterday is not a straight ascent, it has its ups, downs and all arounds. I know I am not a horrible person, not a monster. I just have a lot of flaws and issues that I need to work on. I have to do this work by myself, well maybe with some help from an impartial party. I sit in my front door looking out at the beautiful fall foliage as it ripens. My dogwood tree (which changes with every season) is a constant reminder of the seasons of change in my own life, not to mention the people who have come and gone. I am overwhelmed by the absolute love of God and how He has brought me and my family through so much and up to this point. I am reminded of His power, His protection, His direction and His provision. I think about the pain I’ve suffered; but most importantly, the victories won and the discovery of His purpose for my life. The struggle has been real; but God's presence, realness and love supersedes every struggle. I sit in His presence crying and praying, yet rejoicing. There’s no place I'd rather be. You will find no greater love than the #LoveOfGod. I can't say this enough... #ExperienceGodsLoveToday while you can. We did a thing..!!

Once upon a dream...John and I loved to spend evenings after work, in our hot tub dreaming about our future, and what it would look like! For the better part of 4 years, the future looked the same to each of us. We agreed we were tired of the rat race. Work, come home tired and sore, eat dinner, go to bed and repeat. Even weekends couldnt be looked forward to, because while John was off weekends, I worked every weekend. The bills were getting higher and higher. Mortgage and bills ate the bulk of our paychecks. There was little left for us. Is this what our life was going to be forever? Working until we were so tired and sore and making just enough to get by? We were house poor. We had a lovely home, but we were slaves to that house. This is what we decided to do to give us a quality life we could enjoy without limiting our needs! We wanted to buy an RV and live in it full time and travel to different destinations and enjoy culture and experiences in each place! Each time we discussed it we got more excited! Yes-this was the dream for us! How do we make it happen?

First and foremost, we had an understanding that the kids would all be finished high school. So that gave us 3ish years to pull it off. With neither of us sitting on a pile of money, we decided to use what we had, to make us the money we needed to start our dream life. We had investments we could use and built upon them when we could. We upgraded and renovated areas of our home bit by bit, knowing it was going to add value to our home. We replaced windows, flooring, installed solar panels, finished the basement, added a deck in the back yard, freshly painted the house to a neutral color, removed our tree ( that broke my heart ) to make room for a 3 car cement driveway and sidewalk down the side of the house. It looked amazing!! We were right! It increased the value so much that when we sold the house, we got 65k over our asking price! With the sale of the house, we purchased our new home on wheels! I affectionately call it our "condo on wheels". We bought a Class A motorhome- a 2016 Coachmen Mirada. It's a beauty! But now we had to downsize BIG TIME. We either sold or gave away our furniture and household items. I had to have many conversations with my pack rat self and let go of things I've held onto for too many years. I still had things from my childhood long forgotten! We did put some stuff in a storage unit that I simply couldnt part with.

We were blessed to have a team of people help us move out...and move in to our new home. We can never thank them enough! Starting with our real estate team from Van Leeuwen Real Estate Advisors! Jerry Van Leeuwen and his team member Jody made the sale of our so smooth and effortless! I enjoyed their good natured humor and their knowledge and hunger to sell our home. We highly recommend them if you are ever selling your home! We also could never have pulled this off without my kids Sydney, her boyfriend, Brandan , Devon and Jordan. They worked tirelessly to help us move and transition into our new lives and as as transitioning into their own. Our friends, Michelle Bradley, Blair Fitzpatrick, Lisa Devison, John's brother Joe, his cousin Justin, friends Matthew and Joanne all worked hard at getting stuff out of the house a full day sooner than we thought. It was a lot of work and they all really stepped up. We thank you, love you, owe you!

Goodbye 20 Flockhart road! Thank you for all the memories! For keeping our family safe year after year! For all the holidays we enjoyed in this house! Those memories are in my heart and mind! May the new family living in this great home enjoy the love, warmth and memories that we did!

There was a time when I never thought I would smile again, laugh again, be loved or touched with affection. There was a time when everything was dark and painful, so much so, that I couldn't stand to hope, because hope meant falling twice as hard. It felt like I could taste the blood in my tears.
