Fuck it, toolposting time

This is my day to day kit, and with it I can fix just about anything in the plant. It's missing exactly one thing, and that's a pair of good pliers/multitool, but that's on its way (it'll be carried separately because I'm out of room in my small pouch and my big one is too big. Breakdown of all my tools below the cut

From left to right, we've got:
- LOTO locks. Safety is first so my locks are first. These are American Lock model H-6698 in blue. Very heafty aluminum lock, does exactly what it's supposed to; locks things out and keeps me safe
- next is my Wiha compact allen key sets. One for metric and one for standard. These ones in particular are nice because of their length, makes for extra leverage.
- after that is my modified Icon magnetic flashlight. I modified it so the longer LED bar faced in towards the battery so it can be used upside down or as a work light. USBc rechargeable and very handy
- taking center stage is my Klein Tools insulated screwdrivers in philips and slotted (flat head). They're well used so I don't use them for any work that would actually require insulated tools as the 1000V rating can't be trusted or verified. Probably my most used tools
-second to last is my trust adjustable hammer. It's a Craftsman model CMMT81623 and it's great at rounding off nuts and bolts or doing percussive maintenance. Has custom dog bone engraving (I did it by hand, don't judge)
-and finally, my trusty toughbuilt cliptech pouch. I love these because they have a quick release mechanism that means I don't have to fight it to take it off and I don't have to take off my belt either. Very convenient. I have a larger one that I use for big jobs, especially electrical jobs because it's been modified to hold my multimeter and some other useful tools.
That's all for edc except for my keys (not pictured for obvious reasons) and my radio, which isn't anything special. If this is something people are interested in, I can go into more detail or even do a full toolbox tour (at least, what I'm allowed to show, I do still work for a company haha)

if you need something exactly once, harbor freight (or your regions equivalent?) will have it cheap. it'll break with misuse and probably with regular use, but if you need snap ring pliers today and probably never again? fuck it man. it serves a purpose.
amazon and temu as marketplaces are traps. the cheapest offerings from no-names are unworkable and everyone knows the review system has lost all function as a usable metric. amazon basics generally fails to compete, but not by miles or anything.
for reviews, outlets that do not take any affiliate links are precious few. savor them. project farm on youtube does direct comparisons using their own tests. he might not have done the tool you're researching but you can check out a brand's track record and generally learn what to look for...or look out for, particularly how often the copy on the packaging is just straight up deceptive, or not useful. ie, a stated 2000rpm might never be attainable in real conditions, is something all offerings reach, or that specific number is completely irrelevant to determining quality.
if you can wait on your purchase, think about when you would buy your dad something and that's when there will be a sale. clearance sections at box stores can also be surprising deals, sometimes this is because the specific products sucks (but not enough to recall) or a new improved model is hitting shelves soon.

none of the usual; no loose; nothing
The tool has a better support than ordinarily and is held more rigidly because three binding screws are used. It also may be removed for grinding and replaced in practically the same position. None of the usual puttering around with hammer or wrench is necessary to set the tool back in position. There are no loose pieces when for any reason the toolpost is removed from the lathe; there is nothing to be lost or mislaid. Furthermore, the toolpost may be used for turning and boring either right- or left-hand with equal convenience.

Comparison between Capstan Lathe and Turret Lathe
Capstan lathe
Capstan lathe is a type of machine tool used for machining relatively small workpieces. It is designed for high-speed production of turned components, typically in large quantities. The distinguishing feature of a capstan lathe is its turret, which holds multiple cutting tools that can be quickly indexed into position for machining operations.
Turret lathe
Turret lathe is a type of metalworking lathe that features a turret or a toolpost mounted on a slide, which can hold multiple cutting tools. This turret can be rotated to bring each tool into position for machining operations

my last #toolposting for now....
you cannot purchase your way into electrical safety. yes, the <10 dollar or 'free with purchase' multimeter you can get at harbor freight is so sketchy it could kill, but this does not mean a near 4-figure fluke will save you. you really don't want to leave that kind of work to error so i say: don't.
do not work on anything that could be live if you do not have the skills and confidence. something as simple as replacing an overhead light fixture could kill you with assumptions. 'but i turned the switch off!' there are wiring configurations where there is always power in the box the light fixture mounts to unless you turn off the breaker.
here is my recommended purchase list for home electrical work for the reasonably confident, but not trained:
battery powered lights
non-contact voltage tester, klein preferred, most named brands okay.
digital multimeter, real named one.
okay now when you go to work, shut the whole house/apartment off. you have lights. now use the non-contact tester to see if there is any power somehow remaining on whatever you're working on. (it can happen!) confirm it's dead with the multimeter. if it's still reading live? stop what youre doing and get a professional, straight up.
the non-contact tester is a good life of defense to let you know there could still be voltage present, or assist in diagnosis but it has to be used in conjunction with a multimeter. the meter is how you confirm anything. if you dont know how to use one, get a professional. like thats not to say you couldnt learn, its to say that this work gets unacceptably, unjustifiably risky quickly when you can't confirm all conditions present.
e: don't buy insulated tools if you are not an electrician!! vampires dont buy sunscreen!! you are going to get yourself fucked up quick with the false confidence those will bring!! tool conductivity is just one of dozens of hazardous conditions with live work!!!
