How To Hire Developers For Startups – A Definitive Guide
In the rapidly evolving landscape of technology-driven businesses, hiring skilled developers has become a crucial aspect of launching and scaling start-ups. Whether you're aiming to build a web application with Laravel, PHP, or Magento, or seeking to develop versatile solutions with Full Stack or React Native technologies, the process of hiring the right talent remains consistent. This definitive guide outlines the essential steps to effectively hire developers for your start-up.
1. Define Your Requirements:
Before you start searching for developers, outline your project's technical requirements and scope. Determine which technologies, such as hire laravel developers, PHP, Full Stack, Magento, or React Native, are the best fit for your product. Having a clear understanding of your project's needs will help you identify developers with the appropriate skill sets.
2. Job Description and Role Clarity
Craft a comprehensive job description that outlines the responsibilities, qualifications, and expectations for the developer role. Highlight specific skills, programming languages, and frameworks like Laravel, PHP, or Magento that are essential for the job. Clarify whether you need a Full Stack developer capable of handling both front-end and back-end tasks or a specialist in React Native for mobile app development.
3. Source Candidates:
Utilize various channels to source potential candidates. Post job openings on job boards, professional networking platforms, and hire php developers communities. Consider reaching out to specialized agencies or freelancing platforms that cater to Laravel, PHP, Full Stack, Magento, or React Native developers.
4. Evaluate Technical Skills:
Screen candidates based on their technical proficiency. For PHP-related roles, assess their familiarity with the language and its frameworks. When hire full stack developers, gauge their expertise in both front-end and back-end technologies. If you're seeking React Native developers, evaluate their experience in mobile app development. Ask relevant technical questions and assign coding tasks to assess their problem-solving abilities.
5. Portfolio and Experience
Review candidates' portfolios to gauge their past projects and accomplishments. For example, when looking to hire magento developers, examine their experience with e-commerce platforms. Similarly, assess Laravel and PHP developers based on their web application projects. Look for a proven track record of building products like what your start-up envisions.
6. Cultural Fit
Evaluate whether the candidate aligns with your start-up's culture and values. Start-ups thrive when team members share a similar work ethic, communication style, and passion for the project. During interviews, assess their collaboration skills and ability to adapt to a fast-paced and dynamic start-up environment.
7. Communication Skills
Effective communication is essential, especially for remote teams or when hiring freelancers. Ensure that candidates can clearly articulate their ideas, provide updates, and understand your project's requirements. This is particularly important when hiring remote Laravel, PHP, Full Stack, Magento, or hire react native developers.
8. Test Projects or Trials:
Consider providing a paid test project or trial period for shortlisted candidates. This allows you to assess their practical skills, work quality, and compatibility with your team before making a long-term commitment.
9. Compensation and Benefits:
Offer competitive compensation and benefits packages that reflect the value of the developer's skills and experience. Start-ups often provide additional perks like flexible work arrangements, equity options, or opportunities for skill development to attract top talent.
10. Onboarding and Support:
Once you've hired developers, ensure a smooth onboarding process. Familiarize them with your start-up's goals, product roadmap, and existing codebase. Provide the necessary tools, resources, and support they need to excel in their roles.
Conclusion
Hiring developers for start-ups demands a strategic approach that considers both technical expertise and cultural fit. Whether you're looking for Laravel, PHP, Full Stack, Magento, or React Native developers, following this definitive guide can help you navigate the hiring process and build a strong development team that drives your start-up's success.

BLOG 2: STUDYING, ANALYZING, & VALIDATING THE NICHE MARKET
During the past few weeks, the team conducted an initial Market Survey to analyze and investigate potential target markets. This initial Market Survey conducted through a google form is a tool for gathering direct feedback from the identified Target Market to understand better their characteristics, expectations, needs, and requirements. Market Surveys are vital to creating efficient and successful strategies that will be beneficial to develop momentum and launch our start-up, namely' "THE STUD CAFE."
Tumblr media
A Target Market or Niche Market is a group of prospective customers to whom our team intends to sell our products and services. As the team identified, they are mainly Central Mindanao University students and staff. However, they are sub-categorized to those that are renting and commuting, especially those that are book lovers and coffee lovers. The team gathered essential data for our target markets by asking them close-ended and open-ended questions. Through the process of synthesizing these answers, the team was able to discover start-up options and formulate important venture decisions. The following are the objective data, selected questions, and narrative responses from a small segment of our target market that the team has interviewed.
During the initial Market Survey, 95% of the respondents are CMU students, and 5% are school employees. 40% of students are pursuing a doctorate in Veterinary Medicine. 30% of the students are pursuing a bachelor's degree in Nursing. 10% of students are majoring in Biology. 5% of students are pursuing bachelor's degrees in Nutrition and Dietetics. 5% of students are pursuing a BS in Civil Engineering. 5% are BS Finance and Management students. Finally, 5% of the respondents are school staff working as SPMU clerks.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Moreover, the team interviewed respondents ranging from 17 to 40 years old. Respondents aged 17, 18, and 46 years old are only at 1%. While 19-year-old respondents were 15%, 21 years old 20%, and 20 years old at 50%.
Tumblr media
90% of the respondents are women, and 10% are men, with an estimated family income ranging from Php 10,000 to Php 50,000 a month. 85% are commuters, and the remaining 15% stay in boarding houses or pad rentals with weekly allowances ranging from Php 700 to Php 3,000.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
The demographic data, such as age and gender groups of the target market, are essential to be considered logically because different age and gender groups have different spending habits, product interests, and values. Age and gender segmentation is also integral for the start-up to manufacture products specific to each group. At the same time, the data on estimated family income and a weekly allowance of the target market aids the team in deciding the pricing trends and brainstorming potential products to be added to the initial menu listing. Forecasting the pricing trends will enable the company to calculate estimated prices that are feasible for the consumers and could still generate income revenue for the start-up. Additionally, creating a simple product to outsource and produce based on the preferences of the possible clients is the top priority to maintain customer relationships and sustain the business in the long run.
In addition, the team asked whether the respondents have any problems finding a safe and comfortable place to study during their vacant time. Out of 20 respondents, 13, or 65%, answered "Yes," while 7, or 35%, responded "No." Most of the respondents answered that they have a problem finding an inclusive place where they can concentrate on studying. This result proves that there is a problem that exists within these areas. A problem that the team's venture wanted to solve.
Tumblr media
When asked whether they had any problems studying in their boarding houses or pad rentals, 11 or 55% of respondents answered "Yes," then the remaining 9 or 45% of respondents answered "No." This result signifies that the student still has problems learning and studying even in their accommodation. Thus, it is crucial to have a separate study area that helps sharpen the mind and improves the concentration of these students. Having a particular study area is preferable to using a bedroom, where they cannot be distracted by external factors, including their roommates and bed.
Tumblr media
The team also asked the respondents if they are experiencing problems with the internet connectivity inside the campus, the majority of the respondents which is 18 or 90% percent of the total respondents answered "Yes," and only 2 or 10% answered "No." A massive gap indicates a real problem inside the university regarding internet connectivity. Therefore, not all students have access to a good internet connection.
Tumblr media
However, when the respondents were asked if they wished to have a budget-friendly and convenient space to relax, study and do work, all respondents answered "Yes," giving 100%. This result validated that this business idea is needed in the market. This validation means that when the business launches, potential customers will purchase the products and services that the start-up will offer.
Tumblr media
Lastly, when the respondents are asked what they think of an affordable, student-friendly study hub or cafe near the university's main gate and whether it is a good idea, their answers motivated the team to pursue the business idea. The succeeding statements are the narrative responses of the segment of our target market:
"Yes it would be a good idea, only that internet connectivity and electric power interruptions would prevail. Furthermore, a cubicle type of set up for study hub would be nice to have that conducive place to study and focus."
"I think a study hub is a good idea for students but i think i would change the location to a more appropriate area inside the campus."
"It's a good idea because it might help the students to have a good place to unwind or a place to study where it's quiet."
"I think it was a nice idea so that students will have a comfortable place to study."
"I think it is. As long as it helps the students focus on their studies with a condusive environment."
"Yes, because we need places that allows students to study without any noise disturbances and away from our beds.😴😴😴"
"Yes, it offers comfortable and convenient place for me to study."
Tumblr media
In summary, after interviewing our possible clients, the team decided to continue with the original business idea presented during the venture proposal. The team still thinks this would be an excellent business opportunity as a start-up. However, the team reconsidered a few things regarding where the business would be located. The team chose between situating it in Dologon, Maramag Bukidnon, or sticking to the original plan to locate it on the Main Gate. A suggestion also came from our target market, suggesting to find it in an appropriate area inside the campus. Yet, the team still decided to establish it at the Main Gate of the university, considering the foot traffic in the area and its proximity to the national highway. The team also started discussing the infrastructure, the ways to gather investments, strategies to build partnerships, and, more importantly, recognizing requirements and qualifications needed for legal matters (e.g., business permits, accreditations, and building permits) for the upcoming Business Model Canvas Presentation and Pitching. Overall, the team learned how necessary it is to validate business ideas to build strategies and ensure that the business would sell and be successful. This way, the risks would be mitigated and give the start-up business a stronger foundation.

2017-11-24 “What happened today” Kubo Shiori blog #29 [ENG]
Hello everyone, thank you for your continuous hard work today. I’m Nogizaka46’s 3rd generation member, 1st year high school student, 16-year-old Kubo Shiori. It’s a pleasure to meet you.
Tumblr media
This year, I’ve finally been able to be reunited with my Uniqlo fleece. Thank you for keeping me warm today. I'll be in your care again this year.
 Without any further delay!
November 19th, AGESTOCK, thank you very much!!
I was surprised by the distance between us and the fans! It was really close wasn’t it! I’m so glad that I could see each and every person’s face〜
There was also a second and third floor. Thank you to those people as well. It was easier to spot the penlights from the people on the upper floors. I thought many times “AH! There’s a Kubo fan over there! I’m so glad!”
 Here’s the setlist!
Boku no Shoudou (full)
Seifuku no Mannequin
Dank Schoen
MC
Mirai no Kotae
Girls Rule
Hadashide Summer
Omoide First
MC
Inochi was Utsukushii
Oide Shampoo
Sanbanme no Kaze (Full)
There were 10 different songs!! There were a lot of dance numbers and so I was sweating a lot. Recently, I’ve been feelings strongly about working more on my dance skills.
It’s all thanks to Boku no Shoudou. I want to change my atmosphere depending on the song. I want the atmosphere to change so much that you say, “What? Kubo-chan? Where?!!” (I don’t want you to lose sight of me though…) For this reason, I need to work hard to be the first person you spot no matter where I am.
I felt once again that ‘Live concerts are a lot fun’. Thank you so very much.
 Oh yeah, that’s right.
Two days ago, I lost the remote control to my air conditioner. It was super cold. I haven’t seen it in 3 days… Honestly, where did it go, I said while looking for it. I found it a short while ago. I felt so relieved. “Hold up? I’ve read this somewhere before…” I though as a different kind of coldness came over me. (Please check out the 3rd generation blog updated on the 5th of November 2017)
(TL Note: apparently Yamashita Mizuki also lost the remote to her air conditioner. Link to the original Japanese blog is here https://blog.nogizaka46.com/third/2017/11/041937.php)
The other day I went to buy some secondhand clothing〜However when I arrived at the store, I wanted to shop at it seems that they were closed. I guess there are days like that aren’t there.
I bought some really cute western clothing. I’m thinking about wearing them at the handshake events. I’m excited. Thanks to the day that Miona-san invited me to go out I’ve become more active. Hehehe. Miona-san’s photobook is released today! I haven’t seen it yet, but I really want to (´・_・`) and yet, on the day we were at Tokyo Dome, in the car she said, “I bought you a birthday present from when I was in the USA!!”
(´;ω;`)
I had to use a different emoji than my usual one. I was honestly so happy. Thank you very much. I’m looking forward to looking at “Kimi Rashisa”!! Congratulations on getting a photobook published!!
 Wakatsuki-san’s “Palette”
Shinuchi-san’s “Doko ni Iruno?”
Yoda-chan’s “Hinata no Ondo”
Matsumura-san’s “Igaitteiuka, Mae kara kawaii to Omotteta”
These are all my beloved people’s precious books. Congratulations!!!!!
A little while ago I cut my hair a little bit. Only just a little. I was so happy and excited. Thank you to everyone for reading such trivial information.
Tumblr media
Beam.
I’ll be waiting for the request at the handshake event.
I met with Himeka-san the other day. On the Radirer day. There’s was a lot I want to tell her, and I don’t think I forget to tell her anything. I’ve also been writing a lot of letters. I haven’t sent them yet though. Himeka-san. Congratulations on your graduation. Please continue to look after me! Himeka-san’s existence in my life will always continue to grow bigger and bigger. I love you.
Please let me make some announcements.
·         November 30th BUBKA-sama
Riria, Mizuki and I talked together. I love interviews. I’m not very good at talking to people but when I do interviews, my feelings seem to pour out of my mouth without effort. However, there’s always so much I want to say, the feelings I want to convey are so strong and sometimes I’m unable to speak properly… I, I really want to honestly speak my feelings. I want to convey them to everyone.
My dream is a long interview. I also love photoshoots, but I like interviews to the same degree, and they are as precious to me as photoshoots. I’m thankful to always be able to talk about various things with everyone. And thank you to everyone that reads my magazines.
·         Nogizaka Bunko
Ogawa Yoko’s ‘Brahman’s burial’ I was surprised that I was able to be on the cover of a book. I am super happy. I never thought I would ever be this happy. I hope that I can reflect upon this happiness with everyone. Please make sure to check out the book.
On top of that! The stream has finally started.
·         Nogizaka Rhythm Festival
Did everyone download it yet? I’ve played it many times already! I’ve challenged “Yubi Bouenkyou” I very happy that I cleared the song, thank you very much!! But it seems that I’m not good at it… I know the difficulties of rhythm games (´・_・`) but it’s still fun!!! Even though it’s the same song, once you get used to the map you can play while watching the live concert in the background and you can do it many times. It’s very fun so please make sure to check it out everyone!
This suddenly came to my mind. Once January comes around it’ll be time for a fresh start to the year. Many things will begin again! Things like that will happen, but I don’t feel like I’ll be doing that in 2018. I wrote this before but it’s important to act when the opportunity arises, but I want to be someone that acts before it arrives. After all, I don’t want to lose to myself. I’ve recently finally come to accept this fact. I hate losing. I don’t think the fact that I hate losing is a bad thing. I first have to accept that part of myself.
2018. Heading toward next year, my dream, I’m carefully re-thinking my goals. The time to start is now.
Tumblr media
Blanklyyyy.
I’ve come to realize that we have a lot of things in common, like the way we think, we’ve been talking about various things.
Congratulations on being cast in the drama version of Mob Psycho 100!!!! I haven’t read the source material but before the first episode airs, I think I want to read it ☺︎
Since the time we did Principle, I’ve loved Yoda’s acting ability. She’s so cool. When Yoda is acting, she’s like a hero. I’m looking forward to her drama ☺︎
This may be sudden but recently I feel like I’ve been forgetful. I forget things and have to go back home for them and when I finally find it, I realize that I forgot something else… but I can’t remember where it is… I’ve been having this problem constantly recently (´・_・`) I need to pull myself together.
 Oh.
Huh, in the blink of an eye it’s already December… Why does the year go by so fast? It really does feel like a blink of an eye. There’s still a month isn’t there!!
How will you spend this time? What will you do? It’s not an exaggeration to say that the month hangs on those decisions. I don’t want to waste even a second of it.
I’m clumsy. I’ll say it many times. I’m clumsy. Therefore, I can’t try and be like everyone else. I can’t be impatient when I see someone else do it, I can’t compare myself to someone else. I need to do my best in my own way. A clumsy way of doing my best. I’d be glad if you were to go easy on me.
In order to meet your expectation, please expect me to do it my way, but with all my strength. Everyday I’ll keep griding away, doing my best.
Tumblr media
2 times in a row it’s Yoshida Ayano Christie. Excuse me for being on your shoulder. Ayano-cahn sidled up to me to take this picture on top of that when our eyes met on stage, she winked at me. As expected, I wonder how long Ayano-chan’s wink popularity will continue. Please stay tuned.
The other day I received a call from my mother. “Miyagi received it’s first snow fall.” It’s finally started to snow in the Tohoku region. Next year at this time, this is also going to be the expected weather. It’s not that obvious right now though. When I thought about this, right now each and every moment is being carved into my memory. I want to have a new day every day. I want to be able to realize this before I take it for granted. If I was asked how precious each day was to me I’d say it was like an asset. The reason that I live. The wide world. The long periods. Within all of that the fact that I’m able to meet everyone is that asset. Once again, please continue to look after me.
 I’ll write again soon.
Kubo Shiori.
Right now, the person in front of you just asked, “are you ok?”
How would you respond? “I’m okay.” Or “please help me.”
When I’m given this sort of question I often respond in my own way. However, I can’t find a suitable answer to this question.
‘I’m okay’
In this case you’re thinking about the other party.
‘Please help me’
In this case you’re thinking about yourself.
If you put it like that most people would probably choose the former. However, recently I’ve thought about something tremendous. To take care of yourself. Take care of yourself more. Be nice and take care of yourself. It’s completely different.
Originally, I couldn’t come to like myself. In anything. However, I’ve decided to take care of myself. When you look in the mirror you can hear the voice from you heart, when I do that the me on the other side is saying, “please help me” I feel like that’s what it’s pleading. Nevertheless, this isn’t a dark conversation. That’s why I can’t choose an answer. Rather, neither is the correct answer.
I need to take care of myself. You need to take care of yourself. If you do that when you hear the words “are you ok” you’ll believe your own answer.
You are also all precious to me.

My thoughts and reflections during my AdSpark days (1,000+ word blog)
Before starting my blog, I was already advised ahead of time by Enderun’s Office of Career Services, OCS for short, that the internship that I chose to work for had virtually almost nothing to do with my course which is a certificate in Hotel Operations. However, now was not the time to be choosy. Because of the current pandemic and limited options, I pretty much had no choice but to embrace the career openings available to me. I was quite nervous at first because looking at the available options, there were indeed no Hospitality openings for interns. However, I did not want to delay my studies any further and just hoped for the best. I did remember though that back in my college days, my course focused on communications and I decided to cash-in on that. Low and Behold, I was able to find an Internship suitable for me, AdSpark. Even though AdSpark had basically nothing to do with the Hospitality Industry being it is a digital advertising firm, I still managed to make the most out of my internship there by making new friends, gaining experience from another industry, and increasing my knowledge in other fields.
Upon joining AdSpark, I had applied for two (2) openings: Client Services & Marketing. After being interviewed, I ultimately chose to go for Client Services because I felt that I was more qualified there. Since I was a former hotelier as a front desk receptionist, I have had experience dealing with various guest services. Therefore, I felt that this department was still in essence similar to what I have been trained for in my course. Of course, a new playing field meant new things to learn.
On my first day, I have to come clean and admit that I was very anxious because for the next 10 weeks, I would be working for a company that was part of an industry that I almost have zero experience working in. I didn’t really do much though on the first day because my supervisor and mentors were busy accomplishing their daily tasks, and at the same time figuring out which tasks to assign to me without compromising confidentiality. Later on within the day, I finally had a get-to-meet session with my department. They were very welcoming and they made me perform my special talent for them by singing and playing my guitar just to break the ice. Everything went okay during the first day although it was still a bit underwhelming because I basically had no tasks to do but to just meet my department that day but it was all good.
Finally as the weeks progressed, I was given more tasks to do. I have to be quite frank and admit that as a client services intern, I was expecting to have roles of actually talking to the various clients of AdSpark doing whatever such as possibly talking to their own client representatives etc. That was not the case  because for the most part I was actually mostly just assigned to attend internal briefings for clients where my supervisors and heads of other departments would discuss ideas and pitch promos on how to go about for the new/ongoing campaigns of the various clients AdSpark is working on. After the meetings, I would be assigned to do the MOM (Minutes of the Meeting) and send it later on within the day for the other AdSpark personnel to see. That’s not all though because there were times I’d be assigned to make decks and make google slide presentations for future meetings, and input data during reports season. I was basically doing a lot of admin and secretary work. I’m not trying to bash my department because again I was already told ahead of time by the OCS of what to expect and I had my mind set on it. Therefore, I already knew what to expect but the workload assigned to me was at times very underwhelming. There was even a time where my department was not giving me any tasks because they were busy with various other duties to the point where work became so dull and boring to say the least. Because of this, I kindly asked my direct supervisor if I can be temporarily placed in the Marketing department while I wasn’t doing anything. I was told during my onboarding orientation day along with the other interns that if there were any bland moments, to just approach Ms. Janine (the one assigned to the interns) and she would do something about it. Good thing though Ms. Yana (my Client Services head) was okay with it and I worked for the marketing department for 1.5 weeks. I was also basically doing the essentially the same work as my client services work but more focus on research but at that point I was just desperate to do some work just so that I could log-in my internship hours. Finally, I returned to my client services department and the usual tasks were just being assigned to me until the end of my internship. If one were to ask me what were my top challenge/challenges during my internship, I would say trying to find a way to stay busy and get more engaged in my work for the rest of my AdSpark stay. Being bored is not easy at all. With so much time to pass and nothing to do, it can get very difficult and ironically stressful of not having to do anything at all. Unfortunately, I had to deal with this challenge for 10 weeks. Thank God I was able to manage.
Finally on the last day of work, it was quite nice. Aside from my same old routine I was able to bid farewell to my team. I was actually quite flattered and touched because they told me that I did more than what was expected of me given that there were times I felt that I was heavily underutilized. I think my supervisors knew that they could have done more for me and because of that they thanked me for always exerting effort and enthusiasm to work even though they had nothing prepared for me to work on.That was a good pat on the shoulder. I gifted each of my teammates Php 200.00 each worth of GrabFood coupons and we went our separate ways.
After my days in AdSpark, it made me realize that I’m most likely not cut out for digital advertising and any other data-driven companies though I wouldn’t entirely rule out a possibility of ever returning to this industry since I already acquired some experience. It was a refreshing take for once because I was doing something that was not in my field of knowledge. I even entertained the idea that I could possibly work in this industry. However, I firmly believe that fate has a different course for me and it made me realize that I truly belong in the hospitality field. Please don’t get me wrong. AdSpark is a very reputable company and it indeed has its merits. However, at least for my department, they should really revamp the recruitment and job description of what the client services intern would do. What I found lacking during my tenure was that most of the time I always had to keep asking my supervisors if they had any tasks for me. There were no tasks automatically prepared on-hand for me. I had too much free time. But hey, nothing’s perfect. In the end, I was still able to learn a thing or two from this entirely new industry I was working in.
Now the question is would I recommend AdSpark to future interns? Absolutely! Without a shadow of a doubt I would definitely recommend AdSpark to any person who aspires to work for marketing, advertising, communications, client services etc. In short, if you’re a person who’s into data-driven stuff, AdSpark is the place for you! Just look at the company’s achievements and let that do the talking. AdSpark is a very awesome and reputable company and working here is indeed a privilege for anyone given that it is a Globe company therefore making it an Ayala company. A lot of people would kill just to work for Ayala and working for AdSpark means setting your foot in Ayala’s kngdom. As I said before, my only recommendation is that AdSpark should really revamp their internship system (at least for my department). In some weird way, AdSpark helped me realize that I indeed want to work for the hospitality industry and that AdSpark’s industry isn’t for me (at least maybe for now). But that’s the beauty of trying out different things. You see where you excel and where you fail. Other than that, once again AdSpark is a great company and I cannot express it enough. If it is your dream to work at such a reputable Globe (Ayala) company such as this then I say go for it. When the opportunity presents itself to you, strike while the iron is hot!
Once again, I thank AdSpark for the opportunity it has given me. I thank my supervisor, Yana Dalisay and my mentors Rene Cajoles, Iya Duenas, and Trish Menchaca. It may have been just 10 weeks, but in this short amount of time I was exposed to a whole new world!

Lupine Publishers | Give, and You Shall Receive: Mental Health Professionals and Stigma Towards Persons with Mental Illness
Tumblr media
Abstract
Stigma is one of the barriers that hinder people with mental illness from successfully engaging in treatment, which contributes to mental illness having a substantial global burden of disease. This review article examines the duality of the relationship between mental health professionals and stigma towards mental illness. Mental health professionals are subject to associative stigma by virtue of the people with mental illness whom they work with, which can bring about significant distress to the mental health professionals. Despite the need for a non-judgemental attitude for optimal engagement, Health care professionals are not immune from stigmatizing beliefs of their own. On top and above of anti-stigma initiatives with the general population in mind, healthcare workers have been prioritized as a target group for anti-stigma efforts. This is because they have the Potential to impact others, including both persons with mental illness and the general public, through the course of their daily work. Before their professional roles, the training stage might provide the ideal platform to introduce anti-stigma efforts. This benefits of this might not be immediately evident, but this has a long-lasting impact with the potential to turn the wheels of change at the societal level.
Keywords: Social stigma; Mental illness; Medical staff; Physician patient relations; Nursing staff; Nurse patient relations
Introduction
Persons with mental illness grapple with stigma and the discrimination that comes along with their mental health condition. At the public health level, this represents a major concern as it contributes to the treatment gap which discourages those in need of professional help from seeking assistance. Looking across the consultation table, mental health professionals themselves are also subject to associative stigma from peers who might be working in domains outside of mental health. This divide comes across as ironic, given the advocacy for an integrative approach towards mind and body. Mental health professionals work to help those with mental illness, but are individuals themselves shaped by influences and personal experience from their immediate surroundings and societal environment at large. They would also form their own opinions about people with mental illness, with some of these opinions dating back to even before undergoing training in their field. When surveyed in comparison to the general public, mental health professionals in Australia [1] and America [2] were found to have more positive attitudes about people with mental health problems. This was also the case for Croatian medical doctors [3]. However, these results were contrary to the author’s experience when surveying ward-based doctors and nurses in an acute hospital about patients with alcohol use disorder [4], which revealed stigma amongst healthcare workers to be worse than the general public. This article consolidates literature over the recent two years pertaining to stigma towards mental illness and healthcare professionals. It considers healthcare professionals from both perspectives, as the recipients of such stigma and the personnel concurrently exhibiting discriminatory attitudes.
Mental Health Professionals Being Stigmatized
Mental health professionals experience associative stigma, where they are negatively stereotyped because of the people with mental illness whom they work to help. This has an impact on them, similar to what their clients and patients would experience. While there might be a cultural component in associative stigma such that a greater degree of respect tends to be accorded to mental health professionals in China than the US [5], examining the manner in which Chinese psychiatrists address the topic of stigma with psychiatric patients and their relatives [6] might shed light on how this comes to be the case. As a consequence of stigma, doctors with mental health concerns might experience reluctance in opening up. Whether at the stage of a trainee [7] or beyond, disclosing mental illness might cause an individual to be perceived as “weak” and undermine their professional competence. They are hence less likely to disclose this in the work setting, to co-workers and employers alike, and to seek professional assistance for themselves. There is room for much more to be done to support professionals with mental illness. Ensuring the presence of medical care with sufficient confidentiality, occupational health support and back-towork interviews [8] are but some of the measures with potential to make a difference.
Healthcare Professionals as Stigmatizers
It is paradoxical to note that healthcare professionals concurrently exhibit stigmatizing attitudes. The “Inter Nos” (Latin for “Among Us”) study surveyed attitudes of healthcare professionals towards mental illness, across multiple centres in Spain, Portugal and Italy [9]. Hospital-based staff were found to have more stigmatizing responses on both the Attribution Questionnaire (AQ-27) and The Community Attitudes towards the Mentally Ill (CAMI), agreeing more readily with restrictive options, coercion and segregation. In particular, the more discriminatory attitudes and responses tended to come from nursing assistants as well as staff in non-clinical and “other clinical” roles. When mental health professionals stigmatize the persons with mental illness whom they work with, this has the potential to undermine diagnosis, treatment and successful health outcomes [10]. Right from the start, this might adversely affect the therapeutic alliance. This in turn hinders the mental health professionals’ understanding of the service user’s problem, leading service users to disengage from treatment more readily [11] which ultimately sets up a vicious cycle as a self-fulfilling prophecy. This only serves to reinforce the pre-existing negative stereotypes held by the mental health professional.
Education as a Possible Means of Addressing the Problem
Before health care professionals assume their vocational roles, they are, first and foremost, individuals in society just like every member of the public. Interventions targeted at the general public would have an impact on them, but yet more can be done during the course of their professional training. Experiences at the early stages of training can certainly go a long way in terms of professional development, and others have advocated for antistigma initiatives to begin at the educational stage. Data from United States demonstrated the presence of an educational gap [12], such that psychiatry coursework for pharmacy, nursing and social work students did not improve stigma towards mental illness. This might seem disheartening, but the identification of such educational gaps is the first step in allowing them to be addressed by means of appropriately incorporating anti-stigma training. Following exposure to the mental health curriculum, improved attitudes towards people with mental illness were found in medical students from UK [13] and South Africa [14], as well as nursing students from Turkey [15-17] There might truly be a role for the revision of curriculum pertaining to mental health, for anti-stigma programmes to be included as part of the courses. This might turn out to have a more profound educational impact than factual content found in textbooks and learnt by rote, about what constitutes mental illness and how these are treated.
Future Research
From direct contact intervention to Responding to Experienced and Anticipated Discrimination (READ), there have been no shortage of ideas on how to tackle stigma through education. However, the single most effective modality of delivering the anti-stigma message remains to be seen. Though focused on low- and middle-income countries, a recent systematic review had difficulty in pinpointing the most effective anti-stigma intervention [18]. Future head-tohead comparisons of these varying modalities would help to point the best way forward. Healthcare workers in particular have many opportunities to come into contact with persons with mental illness. For the person with mental illness, each interaction can either work out as a disappointment or a positive encounter. Their influence cannot be understated, and the impact of stigma in this group warrants anti-stigma interventions to prioritize this group. It is worthwhile to note the protocol for a randomized controlled trial in Chile [19] targeting primary healthcare workers, and to see how this would unfold.
Conclusion
Corrigan & Nieweglowski suggested a parabolic relationship between familiarity of mental illness and public stigma [20], where people tend to stigmatize those with mental illness when they were either unfamiliar or too familiar with them. This proposal does suggest that too much of exposure might not be a good thing after all, and there exists an optimal balance in terms of the experience to deliver during training. The need to address stigma towards mental illness has never been questioned, though the best methods to do so remain elusive. While the sentiment of the public is important, this author is a believer of the saying “charity begins at home”. Mental health professionals and healthcare workers working outside of mental health domains are two groups that need to be targeted. This is for the wellbeing of their service users, as well as themselves.

Add These 10 Mangets To Your BigCommerce
I just read Michael Fox’s post on Australia needing more engineers that are software Mitchell Harper’s SMH opinion piece regarding the deficiencies of our university system for teaching software engineering. Interesting. I’ve done a bunch of hiring of engineers in Sydney over a number of years, so I’ve an impression in these areas too. Curious about I quickly scanned the Department of Education, Employment and Workplace Relations skill shortage lists, but this didn’t reveal any particular shortage in IT generally if it was an accepted statistical fact. Anecdotally and through my own experience, recruiting engineers could be difficult, but we’ve also never had a shortage of applicants, even for niche roles. Most of the difficulty arises to locate top notch talent, not finding individuals to interview. And so the issue just isn't volume, but talent, and it is a skills shortage. We now have the social people, however the people don’t have the abilities. This makes sense: people in software engineering are well paid, and move on to do interesting, challenging work, so there is not any doubt so it’s an role that is attractive. Understanding that you want to work with software engineering and having desirable skills are a couple of separate things. Does university teach how exactly to be a software engineer that is good? Reflecting by myself education that is undergraduatestudying Information Systems during the University of New South Wales), the computer science curriculum was geared towards fundamentals. The first year course was taught in Haskell, that I think many professionals would agree is a superb introduction - it makes prospective engineers think in functions and side effects and it is an ideal teaching language. The sum of these subjects is a great background in computer science, not an industry developer that is ready. Right now (review the curriculum here), the focus is certainly caused by on core computer science and mathematics. You'll find nothing pertaining to industry that is practical, or web development, or best practices for organising work and teams. Reviewing Stanford’s computer science curriculum shows a remarkably similar group of subjects, so I don’t believe it is restricted to Sydney or Australia if we have a problem. What's the role of university anyway? The big, age old question is if it is the role of university to get ready students for industry? For Harper, the answer is "yes": "Australian universities are not producing engineers" that is workplace-ready. While in my estimation it’s not the job of university to organize "workplace-ready engineers" (I’m associated with the opinion that the basic principles and theory perspective is the proper focus for 90% of a qualification, and that a vocation ready engineer will establish at work), i really do think that there ought to be some degree of preparation, and the right amount of preparation will be relatively simple to deliver to students. A couple of semester long courses on industry practices would be give an undergraduate student a head start that is good. The truth is there will never be plenty of time in an undergraduate degree to completely prepare a student for industry (my suggestion of just one or two semester long courses will have to take a very good opinion on languages and operations, and would you should be the beginning). Harper says that "They’re quite simply not being taught the right languages, methodologies, processes and problem concepts" that is solving but even to instruct the "right" languages into the "right" way would take such a chunk of a student’s time that there’d be precious little time left for the true science to be learnt. Indeed, for Harper’s BigCommerce, the right language would be PHP, and would most certainly be counter-productive for young engineers to learn. I’m surprised to learn Harper saying that they’re not being shown problem solving concepts at university, and I’d want to learn more exactly what he means by that. Students are being taught to be engineers, but mostly industry is interested in half-engineers, half web-developers. The web developers that are best have built on fundamentals, the sort of fundamentals a student learns at university. Some good web developers have self-educated rather than attended university, and also for the right individual there isn't any doubt you can find probably few careers that accomodate the self taught so well. You will find precious shortcuts that are few learning those fundamentals though. So, industry wants graduate engineers who are able to hit the ground running and can deliver value straight away aided by the particular languages and processes that a company that is specific chosen, and has no time to build up individuals with potential. Why blame universities for not catering for this kind of demand? University needs to deliver timeless knowledge built on science and learning, not focus on the whims of a quick paced industry, attempting to predict every fad which comes along. Companies can complain, but there’s a quick method to solve this problem: take students with potential and train all of them with your languages, your processes, your engineering ideals. This is certainly also the way that is slow solve the problem, but hey, much better than complaining.

Communicating these ideas and implementing them not merely builds brand credibility, but customers feel much safer and there’s no bigger conversion killer than when a person does feel safe n’t. Being in several channels may work well for your needs, but as long as you can measure results. Make sure to ensure that analytics is a major section of your omnichannel plans! That’s the way that is only have the ability to get the 80/20 of what exactly is working together with your marketing. Tracking cross-channel impacts of advertising is quite challenging. Don’t try to get it perfect, use data to get trends instead. Don’t make any assumptions. Perform some ongoing work to comprehend who your customer is (buyer persona), what they want, and how they research/buy. Retail, especially online retail, is getting to be an even more place that is crowded every day passes. Be really, REALLY clear about your metrics and who your target customers are! What exactly is your average customer lifetime value? What exactly is your acceptable cost of acquiring a new customer? What exactly is your customer persona and what do they care about? Make every decision with those three things in your mind. Concentrate on the buyer’s needs and journey first and then align your teams, data and systems to generate a seamless and customer experience that is integrated. A lot of people do so within the reverse order and then wonder why they have experience gaps. Take the time to sit down with your team and actually map out (1) your customer personas and (2) how these personas flow during your user acquisition channels (i.e. FB ads, Instagram, Google, etc.) and (3) where they end up buying your product (in other words. website, brick and mortar, mobile app, Amazon, etc.). You possibly can make it interactive using this method on a wall in your office and using color coded post-it notes for every step regarding the journey. Don’t undervalue the free stuff. Search, influencer coverage, product reviews, industry directories, coupon/deal sites: they all play a subtle and role that is interrelated’s tough to attribute, but that’s precisely what means they are a simple yet effective usage of spend. In economics terms, that uncertainty is exactly what means they are an marketplace that is inefficient. Most purchases require multiple marketing touches. You can verify it for your brand within the Time Lag or Path Length reports in Google Analytics. Product critiques, search engine results, blogger coverage, social strategy, all frequently play a shared role in a single sale. Try to avoid applying the same goals to every channel and instead consider how each channel can contribute to your strategy.

BigCommerce's stock nearly triples during the open, and keeps rising

You may use Amazon to get time that is first, a brick and mortar retailer like 7/11 to boost brand awareness, and then drive all of this traffic back to your D2C online storefront where you earn nearly all your margin. Cannibalization of sales from multiple channels is a real risk but it requires to be weighed against the benefits these channels offer. Continuously optimize and test to achieve your goals. You never know what channel, message, time of day, or means of engagement will work best unless you test it. Before entering into new channels, spend some time looking into how competitors or brands that are similar utilising the channel. The intent and expectations across channels varies greatly. For example, somebody scrolling on Instagram is very different than somebody searching for your product on Google Shopping, while the expectations that are post-click costs will differ as well. Omnichannel isn't just having things work technically across channels - it is about providing an incredible experience across channels. Just because customers are functionally in a position to do what they should do does not imply that you’re providing an amazing customer experience across channels. Make sure you’re emotionally connecting with customers at every opportunity. Talk to the consumer. You can’t completely understand the journey or the issues you’re not speaking to the customer to find out how they’re experiencing it in it if. Online focus groups, visit tracking software, reading feedback, actually calling them and asking them! You can’t do a job that is good of if you don’t speak to them. We mistake a buyers journey by convinced that customers desire to control it. This is simply not the scenario in terms of creating a connection that is customer/brand. It has to produce sense towards the Brand and contains to build a memorable journey that’ll be noticeable in the buyer’s mind specially when the internet space is becoming over crowded with options. Aside from channel, customer experience has to be a top priority. You'll have the website that is best or the fanciest retail location, if the service is lacking, you’ll lose customers. Expectations are greater than ever, and modern consumers won’t tolerate lower than stellar experiences. Also, make content for buyers at all stages of it is needed by the journey-customers! One-size-fits all does not always work. Increasingly, consumers expect the retailers they do business with to offer a omnichannel experience that is seamless. The fact is consumers have endless choices of where (and how) to search these days, and if you don’t meet their expectations and gives convenient solutions, they will find one of the competitors that will. Omnichannel is a way that is great brands to simplify the direction they connect with customers through different marketing platforms.
These 5 Simple BigCommerce Methods Will Pump Up Your Gross sales Nearly Instantly
In an effort, to become an even more effective brand and still touch differing people in every kinds of channels you must think like a consumer. My biggest advice is to brand is ensure it is easier not complicated. Developing an omnichannel strategy is a uniquely-tailored process with customer-centric goals. The main focus should be on how your visitors wish to experience shopping online, and that focus should really be supported by the infrastructure partners who is able to help to hold that customer’s experience to the highest standards. Ensure that you have an answer with a hub and spokes that function seamlessly to allow your brand image and promise to shine across channels no matter where your customers decide to engage with you. Most importantly, don’t assume or think you know your customers expectations and desires, but really do the job and research to make sure you are aware, and this will enrich the omnichannel experience you deliver. Think about the buying experience from your perspective. Years back, you would buy in-person only. At some time you started online that is shopping and sites like Amazon. But these worlds are starting to blend and you’re more and much more prone to take a look at something in-person but online buy it. The key as a merchant is to be in a position to accommodate your customer and however take their order they would like to give it. Individuals are almost certainly going to purchase when you present them with an offer that’s personalized for their needs. Studying your data and getting very granular together with your audience segmentation allows you to deliver a highly-personalized promotion that is on-site is more prone to convert. Anticipate to serve your shopper whether this woman is into the awareness, consideration, or decision phases regarding the customer journey. For example, shoppers do not know always what they would like to buy, or perhaps know and cannot verbalize it. Along with great visuals and superb design, brands should always have search, filters, and buy buttons ready for shoppers moving from awareness to consideration, and decision. The same across all channels to make channel switching easy for customers, make sure your brand FEELS. And remember, buyers say they want three things: their desired outcome and an experience. Whatever they really would like is an experience that transforms them. People purchase from people. Be consistent, be approachable and start to become relevant. Smaller brands are more malleable and certainly will adjust and innovate quicker than larger, established brands. Trends change so quickly and often that you need to constantly innovate. Create an omni-channel experience that aligns in what your brand stands for. Stop thinking when it comes to channnels and start thinking in terms of the engagement that is entire irrespective of transactional outcome.
You know more regarding the branding than other people, so make sure you have consistent, accurate branding across as numerous online and offline channels. Don’t let random resellers control your branding. Because over fifty percent of all U.S. Automate whenever possible. Checking up on Amazon, eBay, social media marketing, your internet site, and just about every other channels you’re a part of can quickly get overwhelming. Automation may help things run smoothly without sucking all your time. The things that can’t be automated should be delegated as much as possible, unless it’s a thing that only you can certainly do. Hiring & training the people that are right imperative to scaling your organization without working 80 hour weeks. Really, this really is just good business advice. Nonetheless it’s a lot more true whenever you branch out into multiple platforms. Integration is key. Only 7% of marketers can deliver omnichannel in real time, all the time. To get close, brands need to adopt a strategy that is holistic loops in every avenue of customer engagement. The necessary data to drive the next interaction in the customer journey in theory, each channel should be able to talk to each other and leverage. This level of integration promotes consistency across all touchpoints and offers customers with a experience that is seamless’s channel-agnostic. A brand name that may make this happen could have the benefit over its rivals. It all starts with data management. It’s the inspiration for a successful omnichannel approach. Whether it’s through a PIM (Product Information Management) solution your very own custom built one, you will have to establish a workflow to improve product data to generally meet the various requirements for the various channels. Don’t leave any stone unturned! Test all the channels you might think could "speak" to your web visitors. Just be sure that selling across multiple channels does not take your life over. Automate just as much as you can - which means that your business runs smoothly. The key is customer experience. Brands need to understand the importance of various touch points that impact a consumer’s decision to move forward with them today. Depending on their sales force can be as important as holding a good reputation that is online review sites. In fact, the social media marketing presence and engagement also form important KPIs that impact a customer’s choice. I really believe that brands must up their game in all these areas and approach their customers then as per proper segmentation techniques. Brands that succeed in omnichannel don’t just think about how exactly to sell on different devices, they’re also thinking about how precisely consumers use different devices and channels to see a purchasing journey. Many brands appear to believe omnichannel performance is governed by happenstance.
