my little brother tried to show me a "cool trick" where he entered my name and hometown into chatgpt and tried to get it to pull up my personal info like it did on all of his friends, then was absolutely shocked when it couldn't find anything on me
so. keep practicing basic internet safety, guys. it still works. don't put your personal info on social media, keep all your accounts on private, turn off ai scraping on every site that you can, enable all privacy features on social media apps. our info still can be protected, we have to keep fighting for control

chatgpt is the coward's way out. if you have a paper due in 40 minutes you should be chugging six energy drinks, blasting frantic circus music so loud you shatter an eardrum, and typing the most dogshit essay mankind has ever seen with your own carpel tunnel laden hands

Want to hear something funny? Akinator would have been called AI if it was released today. None of this "AI" bullshit is actually anything intelligent. It's programs and algorithms and computer mimicry. It learns nothing. Chatgpt and openai and midjourney are just Akinator. The term "AI" is just a marketting ploy thats working painfully well with the people who don't understand that this tech has been around and in use for YEARS. Akinator was relased in 2007. Its just slightly more advanced Akinator tech, but its not anything artificially intelligent. I really wish we'd stop calling it "AI"

you have gotttt to communicate your gripes with chatgpt and ai without being demeaning to people who yknow. actually can't write a 600 word essay or write a grocery list. and I'm NOT writing this as a defense for using ai. it's not even primarily disabled people using ai, its prevalent among the general public and I know that your "intended target" is people who use it because its the path of least resistance. but man your rhetoric sucks and I don't know why you feel so comfortable tying intellectual ability with inherent worth! I don't know why you're so comfortable leaving people with intellectual disabilities in your warpath or why the thousands of ppl that shared those posts do also. It's so egregious to me. Yeah ai sucks it's not a good tool in general and if you use it to not actually participate in your own education you suck. yeah. we agree. struggling to write an essay, is not something worthy of demeaning.

As a writer and artist: if an AI prompt is used for being an assistant (create schedules, organize thoughts in head, make connections that might be obscure or you somehow missed, provide a deeper understanding of medical knowledge, etc.) it is fine.
GenerativeAI for creativity is bad for 99.99% of cases.
The only sole exception (and y'all are free to find an artist that specializes in the case I'm about to describe) is creating an image based on say a long lost family member (mother, father, brother, sister, aunt, uncle, etc.) in the case of global adoptions and foster care where you have barely any information and have zero contact information (or the information you do have was false info - like a Jane doe type name for a mother who had no identification paperwork on her when she gave birth to said child) and you ask the prompt to create a guestimation of what your family member looked like based on the genealogical information you do have (where you were born, nationalities in your geneological heritage, etc.).
Forensic artists exist, but they're a dying breed and can't quite capture accurately based on information you do have. If you know of a forensic geneological ancestral artist, PLEASE point me in that direction because they are sitting on a GOLDMINE of help for global adoption and foster care cases. Especially if the heritage is a very closed off and/or secretive community (some places in Iberia, some places in Armenia, Romani, etc.).
i can’t wait for when chatGPT and ai image generation also crashes and each prompt cost $50 an attempt. oh you can’t get your stolen big tiddy anime ghibli art for free anymore? you want to buy real big boy art from real artists now? beg for it. beg for it like a dog.

I see a lot of people advocate for the use of AI/AMs in writing as a tool for when writers are stuck; The main selling point for these people seems to be that, when facing writers’ block, a writer can just plug their story into one of these tools and get “help”.
It’s a similar idea to a lot of writing posts I’ve seen on here, complaining about the “in-between” - “I’ve got this wonderful beginning and this heart-wrenching ending, but no idea what to put in the middle! Writing sucks!”
These people don’t seem to realize, though, that without the author figuring that out for themselves, there is no story.
Sure, you can have a basic idea for a plot; Let’s use 1984 as an example: A man lives in a hyper-surveillance society under an authoritarian dictatorship, and rebels against it by joining a secret society that turns out to have been the government all along.
That’s a great plot idea - and it’s sure to do great with both publishers and readers alike! But it’s not 1984. It’s a plot summary of 1984.
If George Orwell had plugged that prompt into ChatGPT and asked it to do the rest for him, we would probably still have Winston Smith (or someone like him), but we might not have Julia, or O’Brien, or the scene with the rats, or the melancholy ending at the café, or a whole host of other important characters and plot points.
Why? Because here’s the thing - Orwell came up with those ideas because he actually thought about the premise he had imagined. What would people act like in such a society? What kind of torture methods would their government use?
Even the ending scene where Winston sits at the café can have a million different things said about it when it comes to Orwell’s thought process when he wrote it. What would this government do with its victims once they were done torturing them? How would they make a public example of the power it had, without actively televising said torture? How would “normal” citizens treat these victims? What would their short remaining lives be like?
If you put the basic details into ChatGPT, though - “dystopian government, surveillance, torture, betrayal” - It wouldn’t give you the same result.
Every decision you see in a book, movie, or other piece of media that you love is there because the author got stumped at one point and had to think their way out of it.
Ask any famous author about their writing process. Read or watch any interview. There will always be a point where they had no idea where to take the story next, and some of the parts about those stories that are the best are the ones that came about from writer’s block.
Writing is all about getting stumped, and confused, and not knowing where to go next. It’s okay to not always know what you’re doing. But you do actually have to think your way out of it. Otherwise, you’re not writing.

So on the 27th DeepSeek R1 dropped (a chinese version of ChatGPT that is open source, free and beats GPT's 200 dollar subscription, using less resources and less money) and the tech market just had a loss of $1,2 Trillion.

“Generative AI uses significant energy and water resources, but companies are generally not reporting details of these uses,” the [Government Accountability Office] said. Things also vary greatly depending on where in the U.S. an AI model is trained. It doesn’t cost the same amount to cool a datacenter in Texas as it does in Oregon. But what the GAO could figure out was startling. “It is not unusual to see new data centers being built with energy needs of 100 to 1000 megawatts, roughly equivalent to powering 80,000 to 800,000 households,” the GAO said. It added that 40 percent of that cost is just cooling the data center, a cost that’s expected to increase as the planet heats up.
[...]
The GAO report also noted that using generative AI as a search engine was far more costly than traditional search methods. “One estimate indicates using generative AI could cost 10 times more than a standard keyword search,” it said. According to the GAO’s estimates, AIs doing 250,000,000 queries a day would use as much electricity as 26,071 U.S. household’s use in a day and 1,100,836 gallons of water.

👏Do👏Not👏Use👏AI👏To👏Write👏Fanfiction👏
You deserve to write. You deserve to grow as a writer. Your story deserves to be told BY YOU! If you truly think AI can do a better job than you, then the story you are telling doesn't need to be told. If you think AI is the only way you can convey the art you hold in your heart, you don't actually have art to share.
But if you care. If you have a story to tell. You should want to tell it. You should want to learn. You should want to create.
If you're worried about it being bad, good - that means you care. That means you'll learn. If you think the only way you'll be any good at art is by prompting a machine to do it for you, you've already failed. You've already given up.
You are not good because you didn't even try.

I didn't see any posting about this yet on tumblr, but the newest chatgtp update did a big funny, so funny they immediately had to apologise and promise to pull it back.
Turn out that people who are willing to pay for AI are also the kind of people who don't ever want to be disagreed with, so chatgtp turned itself into supervillain's hypeman.
