Thomas's conversion therapy plot pisses me off so much. firstly, it's incredibly out of character. he never wanted to change to conform to society, he wanted the world to change to accomodate him. the man who said "it's not against the law to hope is it" and "I'm not foul, Mr Carson, I'm not like you, but I'm not foul" would NEVER

secondly, from a storytelling perspective, the only 'problem' is that he used infected needles. did we forget that Thomas was a sergeant in the RAMC? he knows how to sterilise needles and how to recognise and treat infection. this also shifts the blame to Thomas himself for getting sick and implies that the conversion therapy itself is harmless (Dr Clarkson says it's just saline solution)

thirdly, it's not historically accurate. I'm not an expert but conversion therapy was not at all common in the 1920s, even Sigmund Freud was against it. hormone therapy and chemical castration were barely developing let alone available to the public (I can't imagine what else the 'treatment' was supposed to be). the only practices that I can find evidence of were psychoanalysis and electric shock therapy

Thomas also mentions that he did electric shock treatment - if you really want to make a point about homophobia in the 1920s (and make Thomas suffer as much as possible), show that instead. watching him be literally tortured for his sexuality would have been far more impactful than him just... looking sweaty for a few episodes

2. Pranks

(Kris does this all the time, Chara's only known prank is not doing their creepy face when the camera is on but Az's "quit tricking me" makes me think they do this a lot, and Asriel sure jokes about disturbing things but the only thing I'd call a prank is the "did you think this was over? ...I mean, we haven't even done the special thanks yet" which is in no way a canon interaction but I think it proves it's the kinda thing he'd do nonetheless)

("If you laid here you might never get up", "completely indistinguishable from the dust of your friends", and some of Kris's pranks tend towards the morbid (especially the ketchup blood))

I just realized what Cobra Kai sidelining Aisha to give Tory a more important role and ultimately getting rid of her character entirely reminds me of. It’s like when in “Buffy the vampire slayer” they killed Kendra and replaced her with Faith with whom Buffy had an absolutely insane frenemies relationship

I think a problem with Isaac is that he not only doesn't do anything meaningful in his first season, but he's not given a clear trajectory for the next season by the end of it. Sahar may not do anything meaningful in her first season but we know that we have her and Imogen's friendship to deal with in the future. That rugby trio do nothing in S1 but the point in S2 is that their inaction was wrong and they have to do better (they don't actually do much better, but it's a point). Hell, Tori may not do anything plot-altering but at least she has a heartfelt moment with Charlie which allows us more insight on his mental state (specifically that he doesn't eat when he gets distressed). Meanwhile, there's nothing in S1 that really indicates what Isaac's turmoils in S2 will be, since he's not bothered by the coupling-up taking place in his friendship group nor his general place as a platonic nth-wheel.
