Flippen #Hell! . . So, top of #Rooiberg Pass clocked just shy of 50 Degrees Celsius today during the @transcapemtb MTB Experience. #Stage2 started off with golden light from #Chandelier Game Farm and the temperatures started red-lining right from the word go ☀️ . . Remote back roads and farm tracks tripped 98km over 1500m ascent, all the way over one of SA's most rugged passes and into the arid & gorgeous @Rooiberg Conservancy. This is a tough day at the #mtb office in any riders' book, and there are a few good stories to tell, especially from a few of the European guys who find the acclimatisation a tad tough 🔥 . . #DieOom had a jol along the first section of the route riding the classy @SpecializedZA #Levo, but retreated to the air-conditioned interior of the @volvocars #xc90 as the #KleinKaroo sauna intensified. Despite the extreme heat, the riders were treated to ice cold #HeyJoeBrewingCo & #Bavaria beers, and of course a dip in the blue swimming pool 🏊 . . And in the end, this is exactly how this incredible 'Bike Journey across the Cape' should unfold. Fern-lined #singletrack, craggy mountain trails, fynbos traverses, sun-kissed water crossings, daredevil descents via fragrant pine forests, tarmac chicanes, with verdant fruit orchards and vineyards as far as the eyes can see ... this is what @transcapemtb, driven by @volvocarsa, delivers on its final champagne stage 🏞️☀️ A glorious route took them from the @houwhoekhotel near Grabouw all the way to @heyjoebrewingco just outside #franschhoek. This arguably rates as the most exhilarating (and most probably scenic) of all the #transcapemtb stages, meandering via Winelands mountains, farmlands and plantations for well on 80km. Massive respect to all the #mtbheroes who took on this gruelling 600km-plus route from the #gardenroute, via the #KleinKaroo, #Hessequa, #Overberg and into the heart of the Cape 'French Quarter'. At #TransCape, it truly is the people who make the event South Africa's most memorable, small-field boutique #mtb experience 💙 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏 Mountains. Gravel roads. Loads of jersey cows and rural pastures. Magical panoramas unfolding onto the Langeberg foothills. And, of course, Indigenous forests and fynbos galore. The #Stage4 pedal at the annual TransCape MTB Encounter definitely puts its hand up as one of this seven-day Stage Race's favourite journeys, so no wonder it is known as the 'Milk & Honey' Stage. Great views and stunning #singletrack awaited these #mountainbike heroes from around the world as they took on the challenging ascent from #Riversdale to #swellendam, with a solid dose of stoke to be had along the exhilarating trails scaped by Aileen Anderson in the breathtaking #Grootvadersbosch Conservancy. With more than halfway of #Transcape in the bag, there is still around 300km of rollicking trails and #gravel roads lurking with intent over the coming three days. Getting to the #winelands promises to be a cracker segment of this '#MTB Journey across the Cape'. Hello, #Hessequa! Yup, the term 'done and dusted' rang true today on #Stage3 of TransCape MTB Encounter, driven by #volvocarsa, as the riders hammered back roads all the way from the remote and tranquil Rooiberg Lodge to the glorious little dorp of #Riversdale, set within the temperate and mountainous Cape grain-belt. This hide-away section of the #gardenroute is not touristy at all, which is why it is known as the #ExplorersGardenRoute 🏞️ Again, there were no easy kilometers along a gnarly off-road track that rambunctiously rollicked amidst rugged #Renosterveld ridges and scrubby plains. A herd of at least 30 massive eland tracked me through a lonesome valley, while a handful of giraffes kept watch from the ridgeline. And on one descent, three kudu bulls nearly knocked the leading peloton of their bikes. Truly amazing 👌 A warm welcome awaited the sharp end of the peleton in town, but many riders took a bit of strain today as this 'Bike Journey across the Cape' continues along its incredible way. Yes, they once again had to cope with testing terrain and the merciless sun, but in the end, the rewards are memories for life. Four days of riding remains en route to #franschhoek, with top riding tomorrow to sumptuous #swellendam, via the stunning @gvbconservancy #singletrack. Tough cal, but this has to be my favourite stage (and yes, I've done Transcape 5x now)!
