One of our favorite stopovers is the ex Calitzdorp Railway Station, now a campsite and resort. It's very convenient due to its position close to the Rooiberg mountain pass and surrounded by wine farms adds to it's attraction.

Flippen #Hell! . . So, top of #Rooiberg Pass clocked just shy of 50 Degrees Celsius today during the @transcapemtb MTB Experience. #Stage2 started off with golden light from #Chandelier Game Farm and the temperatures started red-lining right from the word go ☀️ . . Remote back roads and farm tracks tripped 98km over 1500m ascent, all the way over one of SA's most rugged passes and into the arid & gorgeous @Rooiberg Conservancy. This is a tough day at the #mtb office in any riders' book, and there are a few good stories to tell, especially from a few of the European guys who find the acclimatisation a tad tough 🔥 . . #DieOom had a jol along the first section of the route riding the classy @SpecializedZA #Levo, but retreated to the air-conditioned interior of the @volvocars #xc90 as the #KleinKaroo sauna intensified. Despite the extreme heat, the riders were treated to ice cold #HeyJoeBrewingCo & #Bavaria beers, and of course a dip in the blue swimming pool 🏊 . . And in the end, this is exactly how this incredible 'Bike Journey across the Cape' should unfold. 机前の壁にピン留めした、スワートベルグ周辺のアストロロバ分布図。HaworthiadにMoltenoさんが掲載した簡略図に注釈を加え、南アに持参したもの。緑星は2018年の、赤星は今旅で出会ったアストロロバを表している。

Prins Albert（P.A）で自生地が重なるherreiとtenaxに自然交配種が存在しないのは何故か。なぜならP.Aは、異なるふたつの流れが合流するベルトのバックルのようなものだから。 一方はLaingsburgからSwartbergを東進していく流れ（robusta - smutsiana - bullulata - "pentagona"(=hallii n.n.※1) - tenax/pentagona - tenax v. tenax - tenax v. moltenoi)。もう一方は南に分かれつつも長い時間をかけてAnysberg - Rooibergを反時計回りにぐるっと周り、UniondaleでふたたびSwarbergに合流・西進する流れ（robusta - smutsiana - spirella n.n. - spiralis - herrei）。 そのふたつの流れが今まさにP.Aで合流しているんだ

とモルテノさんは教えてくれる（Haworthiad, Volume 32, Issue1 & Issue2, 2018)。

この流れどおりに葉姿・花姿を丁寧に見比べていくと、星の子らの軌跡やそのグラデーションがくっきりと視えてきて鳥肌が立った。P.Aは未踏でベルトを締めることはできなかったものの、Laingsburgから南→東→西へ向かう流れは追うことができた。待望のherreiの花にも（これがまたとてもかわいらしい）。

スワートベルグの円環とは別の流れだけれど、ルブリフローラにも出会えた。アストロロバ属には見たい花が5つあって、昨今旅で2つが叶ったのだけれど、願わくば次はルブリフローラの赤い花を。

※1 hallii n.n.は結局提案も命名されることもなく、pentagonaで提案中。ややこしいのは、かつてのpentagonaはspiralisのシノニムであること。葉姿が全く異なる。さらに裸名のまま終わったのに日本ではペンタゴナはハリーで通っているし、日本ハリーは真正ハリーというより別種か交配種の姿をしている。錯綜。

※2 ルーイベルグへの流れは葉表が滑らかになっていくという説明がなされているのだけれど、突起・葉紋のあるcorrugataが存在する。corrugataとsmutsianaの自然交配は報告があるけれどspiralisとはない。このミステリーも楽しい。
