I’ve been thinking about the grievances that I have with H*zbin H*tel and how overrated it’s characters are, and among many aspects about the pilot (aside from the creator herself hhhrg), one of the things that I didn’t particularly like were the character designs! I’ve been thinking about doing redesigns since I’ve seen others doing it so I wanted to jump on the bandwagon myself! Especially since I feel like there WAS potential for the show to be decent if it weren’t for V*ziepop, the shit writing, the painful colors, etc.

Generally my criticisms of her character design in her pilot can be summed up to four things since these criticisms can be applied to most of the characters in the cast:

WAY too much visual clutter

An overuse of similar color palettes for majority of the characters AKA the eye bleeding pinks and reds 🤢

Same face/body syndrome

Time period in which some characters died in weren’t readable

I’ve been also considering on making a different post on how I would rewrite this shit show and it’s characters if I could and maybe I’ll make more redesigns/post design notes! We’ll see...

I think you did a really good job! The text bubbles are aligned in good spaces and help lead the eye where it needs to go. The only thing I would say needs changing is perhaps the size and placement of the speech bubble in the first panel.

hi yes hello i jumped on the trend of redesigning the hazmat motel characters. i have a bit to say about the designs and few notes on the characters themselves as well! i have nothing better to do, really. ((lots of words under the cut!))

charlie is probably the least annoying to look at, her design is okay, albeit a bit generic. i played off of her original colour pallette, gave her short hair instead of... whatever it was supposed to be, and tried to make her look a bit more like royalty, because she is a princess, so it should be more obvious. i also tried making her more goat-esque, because goats are normally associated with demons! and also she has ears now. the character herself is fine too, if only she took herself more seriously and realized that not every sinner can be forgiven.

and uh.... v@ggie. that name makes me so uncomfy, so i changed it for this. it’s valerie now. her design was still fine, it just seemed once again, bland and weird. i made her more symmetrical, made her a part of the short hair gang, and gave her a more moth like design in general. she’s supposed to be a moth, which isn’t obvious, so i made it so. also, i kept the x’s, but moved them to her knees and sleeves. as for her character, she should just be more chilled out, and less of a play on the “angry, aggressive latina” stereotype, and maybe make her not the butt of jokes. it’s not cute.

next is angel, and i, dare i say it, hate him. his design is stupid and he’s another stereotype! or rather, every harmful gay archetype rolled into one, so that maybe should be cut back on. it’s kind of gross. he could still have his job of, uh, y’know, but that shouldn’t be his entire personality. for his design, i made him more humanoid and based my idea off of the older iterations of his character, because being part of the mafia is so much cooler than what he is now. maybe that’s because he’s nothing more than a joke now, but i digress. i also cut back on the patterns and made him generally more animation friendly. also, hat.

and lastly, alastor. i fear no man, but his atrocious design... it scares me. anyway, i based his outfit more on those of the 1930′s and played around with the deer aspect of him. his colours are in greyscale now because the original ones are horrible and annoying to look at. i also had the idea of him speaking through the microphone on his cravat, and his face doesn’t change, just to be more uncanny. he looks like a middle schooler made his design, which wouldn’t be particularly bad, if that was the case. and even if he was made for fun, it’d be much more tolerable. as for his character, i’d just make him less like a crappy creepypasta oc and more of his own thing. he’s generic, which is honestly disappointing. also, i’d make him more of a villian, like, it should’ve been better established. or at the very least, establish what kind of character he’s supposed to be.

in conclusion, i don’t like hahoo hotel in any respect, and i don’t like v1vziepop as an artist. nor a person, for that matter, but i’m not a discourse blog so that’s not important. now let’s just hope to god i don’t decide to keep these designs as my own oc’s.

Anyways, I joined the bandwagon on redesigning/rewriting Hazshit Motel and made my Charlie redesign.

Apparently, she's suppose to be a doll so I made her into an actual doll, inspired wih the whole "Demon possesses doll" trope and tweaked her design resembling Raggedy Ann + Annabelle. It's not her actual physical body so yes, she's disguised as a doll.

She can be chaotic and love to run some rampage, but she has a kind heart and cares for her friends. I have a looong rewritten plot, but I'll make a separate post about it.

im not gonna go on any big lengthy explanations yet but the jist is

charlotte: playing more into the whole literal daughter of lucifer thing

venus: new name new personality no angry latina sterotype in sight

angie: same but with no predatory gay sterotype

alan: trying to take away the onceler/bill cipher ripoff vibes and make him actually look Old and Dangerous and Scary.

i swear to god i’ve seen something somewhere that said radio bitch was a poacher in life but i cant find it. but anyways that’s also why he has a gun and a deer motif here!!

A small short comic just explaining about how Charlie will go about redeeming sinners.

Inspirations taken from Dante’s Purgatorio. There would also be a conflict about this method of redemption because Charlie actually stole this door and had it be installed in the hotel.  Angels will soon come down and start looking for that door.

So I finished up more redesigns!

Part 4 out of ??? (part 1, part 2, and part 3)

This batch has Sir Pentious, the Egg Bois (now called the Deviled Eggs), and Cherry Bomb! Personally, I liked Sir Pent since he was one of the least annoying characters in Hazbin and was actually charming. But his design kinda sucks, mostly in the detail and color department. Same goes for Cherry, although to be honest I wish both characters weren’t in the pilot, mostly because they take time away from the protagonists and are barely developed.

For Pent, his design stayed relatively the same, although I decided to base his new colors on the king cobra! As for his Deviled Eggs, I made them more like robots that Pent created since he’s stated to be an inventor who is fascinated with machines so it would make more sense for him to create his own robot minions. Their name is a pun based on the egg dish of the same name, which considering Pent’s name is a pun on serpent, was a missed opportunity on Vivziepop’s part. Also Pent is now autistic and has ADHD because I’m autistic and I said so.

As for Cherry, it was a matter of making her appearance more like a 80’s punk, changing her color palette from whatever was going on in original design to a more darker palette to match the punk aesthetic, and changing her from a cyclops to a mongoose! Since mongooses are famous for getting into fights with king cobras and being able to resist snake poison, I feel that this was a perfect match for Sir Pentious’ worst enemy.

Vaggie is one of the few designs that Im okay with honestly. I just tweaked a few and gave her a darker palette because honestly I really love her old palette instead. I made it pastel though to match what vivziepop is going for because honestly the white palette is kind of obnoxious and makes her look cute and ridiculous if she ever try to look intimidating. her original design reminds me of a lolita to be honest.

yes they are! I love Charlie and Vaggie together. I can’t wait to draw more of their relationship. I really thought their relationship will have more importance in the pilot since Charlie needed the reassurance and support and it’s an opportunity to show how good Vaggie is to her and how it motivates Charlie to pursue her goals that’s why it annoys me that Vaggie got pushed to the side and Charlie with Alastor got the most attention instead :(

His mouth never moves and is permanently stuck in a smile. His voice emits from the microphone that he carries all the time.

His backstory is that he only killed abusers or those people who inflicted pain onto innocent people due to the trauma that he had to endure

Thank you for pointing that. Im always open to suggestions! I always felt like my Alistor design isn’t much different from the original. So now I gave him a muzzle-like head similar to an actual deer. Also that I don’t have to copy how I draw Charlie. I also desaturated his outfit to give him more mysterious energy around him. I believe that he would seem much more unpredictable if he blends in the background and at the same time stand out because he gives off a vibe that something is off about him.

Well I wanted to make him look older than Charlie. To symbolize how much he already experienced while Charlie haven’t experience any hardships at all. I think mysteriousness is what Alastor suppose to embody. He’s powerful and no one know what else he’s capable of. Even Viv still isn’t sure what he can do. Also his motivation for my version is to have Charlie give up on her plan. He believes that Sinners got what they deserve and giving them the chance to be redeemed is unfair, so that’s why he probably appears to be uptight.
