Pola Negri, The terrasse of the Café de la Paix in Paris, Hand-colored Photographs by Burton Holmes, 1927.
“I must urgently recommend that you spend your first leisure hour in Paris at the corner table of the terrasse of the Café de la Paix. It is a fact known and proved that … you have only to sit at this corner long enough, and a friend will appear in time.” - Burton Holmes, Travelogues.
Pola Negri born Barbara Apolonia Chałupiec[a] (Polish, 1897-1987) was a stage and film actress and singer. She achieved worldwide fame during the silent and golden eras of Hollywood and European film for her tragedienne and femme fatale roles. She was also acknowledged as a sex symbol.

My Soul Jam was split in two… as divine punishment from the First Creator…
If only I could get my hands on the missing half… My will would be made whole.
With that will, I shall spread what I’ve realized from my practice… Apathy.
Where is the other half? Oh, where…?
Here? Or perhaps, over there…?
Aha.
There you are.
…And now this world will be covered in the white flour of Apathy.
-Mystic Flour Cookie’s Final Entry
“The plan is in motion. My party is ready. We depart for Beast-Yeast tomorrow afternoon, recording what was uncovered early in the year, then covering what is now new. Perils unknown. Expected casualties unknown. Self-discovery imminent. Known plagued Cookies in the Dark Cacao Kingdom, plenty. Until we depart, this is Heavy Cream Cookie of the Kitsune Corps Investigators and the Licorice Watch signing off.”
-The Second Floor Detective

Cosmic Travelogue: Las Vegas
Incoming transmission…
Tumblr media
“...ello? Hello hello? TELETRAAN 1, are you receiving?... OH! Wonderful! This is Cosmos, reporting in from Las Vegas, Nevada! I had to make an emergency landing in the desert after an ambush from the Seekers. Thankfully a fellow traveler salvaged me from my crash site, allowing me to tag along on their adventures across the city. Our first major stop? The Valley of Fire State Park!”
“It was amazing how quickly the bustling city gave way to arid desert and jagged cliffs. As our vehicle crawled further into the canyon it felt like we were about to be swallowed by the mountains. The park offered many rolling plains…”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Yawning canyons…”
Tumblr media
“And local wildlife! This kind creature even left me a parting gift!”
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Our next location was an important hub of human power generation (maybe Wheeljack could take a few notes?) The Hoover Dam, built in 1931. Can you believe the humans built that giant thing? Though my travel companion wouldn't stop making jokes about 'degenerates like you belonging on a cross...' Perhaps I need to do some research when I return to base.”
Tumblr media
“We weren’t done with national conservation yet, as our next trip took us to the stunning Red Rock Canyon Driving Tour! Just look at those beautiful (and aptly named!) mountains.~”
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
“There were plenty of other fascinating places we visited as well. For example, this repository of organic ocean life…”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“A museum of dated human entertainment…”
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
“And, uh, this thing! And that thing!”
Tumblr media Tumblr media
“Not to mention the food! I didn’t really partake, but they certainly seemed to enjoy it.”
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
“My kindly rescuers even went to far as to offer me a ride back to their home! One I graciously accepted as my main thrusters are still malfunctioning… But I will return to base soon with a full report of my travels! Cosmos, over and out!”

Tuesday June 21, 1938 (Yosemite)
Dies Irae: Wakened at 5:30—dragged weary bones erect, dressed, closed baggage, was ready shortly before six, and we were off again "on the dot"—at six oclock. So out of Klamath, the lakes red, and a thread of silver river in the desert, and immediately
the desert, sage brush, and bare, naked, hills, giant-molded, craterous, cupreous, glaciated blasted—a demonic heath with reaches of great pine, and volcanic glaciation, cupreous, fiendish, desert, blasted—the ruins of old settlers homesteads, ghost towns and the bleak little facades of long forgotten postoffices lit bawdily by blazing rising sun and the winding mainstreet, the deserted station of the incessant railway—all dominated now by the glittering snow—pale masses of
Mount Shasta—pine lands, canyons, sweeps and rises, the naked crateric hills and the volcanic
lava masses and then Mount Shasta omnipresent—Mount Shasta all the time—always Mt. Shasta—and at last the town named Weed (with a divine felicity)—and breakfast at Weed at 7:45—and the morning bus from Portland and the tired people tumbling out and in for breakfast
and away from Weed and towering Shasta at 8:15—and up and climbing and at length into the passes of the lovely timbered Siskiyous and now down into canyon of the Sacramento in among the lovely timbered Siskiyous and all through the morning down and down and down the canyon, and the road snaking, snaking always with a thousand little punctual gashes, and the freight trains and the engines turned backward with the cabs in front
down below along the lovely Sacramento snaking snaking snaking—and at last into the town of Redding and the timber fading, hills fading, cupreous lavic masses fading—and almost at once the mighty valley of the Sacramento—as broad as a continent—and all through the morning through the great floor of that great plain
like valley—the vast fields thick with straw grass lighter
than Swedes hair—and infinitely far and unapproachable the towns down the mountain on both sides—and great herds of fat brown steers in straw light fields—a dry land, with a strange hot heady fragrance and fertility—and at last no mountains at all but the great sun-bright, heat-hazed, straw-light plain and the straight marvel of the road on which the car rushes
—Thomas Wolfe, from A Western Journal
