The dangers of the Trionic Lattice
The view held by norn and kodan alike of the Trionic Lattice in 1325 is simply: don't go there.
It is a near-unnavigable maze of canyons located in the eastern part of Frostgorge Sound, just south of the lair of the Claw of Jormag, and is well-known to be impassable to even the hardiest of norn hunters. It is an extremely dangerous part of the Shiverpeaks, and none who enter return alive.
The only ones who did, kodan fleeing their damaged Sanctuary to set up camp just north of Yak's Bend, did so on sheer desperation. Nothing good lives there.
It wasn't always this way. For most of the last fifty years, the Trionic Lattice was simply a great challenge for a hardy norn; it contained worthy prey in the form of great beasts, it presented a norn with the problem of navigating with only a narrow view of the sky, battles that could get one turned around, and endless lengths of unchanging canyon wall.
From end-to-end by the quickest way, one could spend days in the Trionic Lattice; but often it took far longer, and many norn didn't bother, preferring to hunt elsewhere; but a well-experienced hunter could brave its depths with success and bring back glory.
But then something changed, in the year 1315. A hunting party of nine entered; one a powerful warrior, old but with undiminished strength, who had lived the region for many years, and the others all experienced in their own right.
Only two emerged, broken, battered, grieving. An Icebrood beast now prowled the Trionic Lattice, they said, and they guessed it had taken down their fellows one by one, or else they would have slain it.
But now there were seven powerful norn alongside it. They could not guess if the Icebrood would come out and devastate nearby lodges, but they were sure enough that they moved south, closer to Hoelbrak.
The Icebrood have not emerged from their lair yet, as of 1325, but the way has become a death-trap, and those who have attempted to brave its depths have only added to the force that lingers within the Trionic Lattice.

These ice trenches in Trionic Lattice in Frostgorge Sound are a bit of a maze, and getting through them is made more difficult due to all the ice imps and snow trolls.
I do like the way ice appears in Guild Wars 2 – the cool blueness, and the shiny reflectiveness beneath the upper layer of powdered snow.
