I finally tried my luck with Trollhunter!Barbara.
Here is the result:

Context:
It's the battle of the bridge. Barbara wants to end this fight against Bular, once and for all. However she is not only buisy with helping Blinky (who got caught), fighting off Bular and trying to prevent to open the bridge, but she is also buisy with thinking about Jim. Jim, who stands on stage to perform as Romeo. Her boy, her everything. It might seems unimportant in a literal war but she can't stop to think about his disapointment...how hurt he will be if she dosen't show up. However...she can't just leave Blinky and the other...(I mean, technically she could but-)
As she tries to fight back her enemys (as well as her toughts), a familiar figure appears behind her. With one quick and smooth movement, he managed to not only disarm her but also to smash her down onto the floor. Her sword bore into the dark floor of the museum. Her head spins for a second as she hit the floor, her vision is blurry for a few blinks, but even through the cracks of her glasses, she can see him.
His heavy foot pressed one of her arms onto the floor as he kneeled down to hover above her. She grabbed his ankle trying to free herself but he is heavy, too heavy for her. She squirms as he pinned her harder. Her calls for daylight, her sword, didn’t work. But...did she wanted it to work? It was still Walt-. No. It wasn’t. It was Stricklander, the changeling, the...Impure. A Monster.
He hovered above her, doing nothing but looking down at her, cold almost emotionless. But...this couldn’t be it. Everything they shared, everything they did...everything they went through. Something must have been real...even if it was just one tiny thing. She spoke his name, not his troll name...the name that she had used for him...with a shaky voice "please...Walt." Her eyes are close to tears and for a very brief moment she thought that his expression changed, that she could see some tears in his eyes too... whatever she thought that she saw, it was gone. His cold expression returned.
"You won’t 'save' me Bar-...", he stopped for a second, "...Trollhunter...no matter how hard you try. So why do you even try at all?" His cold words made the tears roll down her cheek. "...Because I believe that you want to change, Walt. I know that you can change...so please...let me help you..." She was pleading but he gave out a bitter chuckle. "You can't even help yourself." His claws grabbed the wrist of her free hand to pin it down, while his other leg pinned her legs. (Under other circumstances she might even would've enjoyed it-) His gaze changed to a disapointed and...scared?...look "I want to trust you...but-" His eyes close and he looked away before returning with a dark and cold expression. "This war will end. Here. Now..." He held her down while he used his free claw to grab the amulet on her chest. "Walt...please....for the sake of the world...." his grip tightened and he starts to pull wich gave her a hurtful sting in her chest. "...for your students...Toby, Claire....Jim..." He hesitated, just for a second before pulling harder with a growl. "...for me..." He stopped, just looking at the glowing amulet that was attached to her amor. "Please..." His mouth opened and closed again as if he wasn’t sure if he should say something.
"Useless Impure!" The dark prince, known as Bular, gabbed the Changelings neck to throw him against the wall. The wall cracked as the changeling hit it, his body fell limb onto the floor. Barbara couldn’t even react as the dark troll grabbed her. "I knew that the Impure couldn’t even follow one simple task. He will pay for that but first...we will let you pay." With that he ripped the amulet from her body and the amor vanished. Bular stepped onto the bridge, pinning Barbara’s head down onto the edge as he placed the amulet on it's place. "My father will enjoy smashing this small head of your's. Now watch your failure, human. Watch how pathetically you lose." She wanted to scream, she wanted to free herself but all she could do was watch. Blood runs down her forehead and her glasses are almost completely destroyed, yet she could see him...
'...s-sorry...' Stricklander mouthed as he tried to get up. Their gaze met in one last glance as the amulet burned blue and opened the bridge...
...

Hi! Here is an interesting ask.
What if Blinky and Aaarrrgghh found and raised an amnesiac human Jim since he was five?
This version of Jim found out he could manipulate and control plants a few weeks after Blinky found him due to a fight with Draal, but due to the amnesia, he can't recall who he got the ability from.
So, in this AU, Jim meets Nari really early (even before his father left) and befriends her. Nari doesn't mind as she is kind to children. Alas, this friendship leads to a horrible accident and Jim is mortally injured. To save him, Nari pours a lot of her magic into his body, so Jim survives but loses his memories (and his plant control is another side effect).
Blinky and Aaarrrgghh find the confused child in the forest and as Jim only can tell his name, they take him with them to the Trollmarket. Initially, it was a temporary measure as they hoped that going through Arcadia might help Jim to remember where his house is but it simply doesn't work and Jim stays at the Trollmarket.
Draal doesn't start a fight with Jim (from his point of view that one is just a weak fleshbag welp) - Jim is the one who initiates it because Draal is rude to Blinky whom Jim already likes a lot. Draal just intends to scare Jim, but the fear leads to unlocking Jim's plant-control abilities. After learning about those, trolls at the Trollmarket start to think that Jim is connected to the supernatural, so looking for his home in Arcadia is rather pointless.
Jim grows around trolls and it shows as he has no proper idea how human society works as his main source is Blinky and his knowledge is often 'off'. Initially, both Blinky and Aaarrrgghh try their best to cook something Jim can eat, but their attempts are so bad that Jim starts to learn to cook himself. His recipes are unorthodox but he is surprisingly good at that.
In this AU Jim is fluent in troll language and has read a lot of books from Blinky's library. He still wants an adventure, but more to prove himself (even if trolls at the Trollmarket adore him, they still consider him weak).
As for Barbara, her marriage with James ended with even more heartbreak as she realized that he not only cheated but also didn't care about Jim to keep searching for him. Barbara refuses to think that her son is dead and secretly keeps searching through all of the years.
Toby had no opportunity to befriend Jim, so he's friends with Eli and they often go searching for creeps together. Ironically, Toby doesn't believe in magical creatures or aliens, and after each of their common night missions, he is even more sure that everything is just Eli's imagination.
Barbara is the one who finds the amulet in this AU, but as Eli and Toby visit her the night when Blinky, Aaarrrgghh, and Jim barge in, they are also involved.
Barbara suspects that Jim can be her son (and her suspicions grow only stronger after she learns his backstory), but she is scared to talk to Jim about it as she expects him to push her away (as she hasn't been a part of his life all these years).
Meanwhile, Strickler has absolutely no idea who the new Trollhunter is (he doesn't even think that it can be not a troll). Bular decides to wreck some chaos and lure out the champion. Toby and Eli are attacked, but Barbara comes to their help and Jim arrives just in time to slow down Bular with his magic.
Anyway, now both Bular and Strickler know that the Trollhunter is a human woman, and Strickler decides to identify her and use a seduction approach (and as we all know, he falls in love himself).
As for Toby and Eli, they decide to teach Jim more about human stuff and start to take him out to explore. Jim manages to get into a fight with Steve (and absolutely obliterate him before the crowd) and falls in love with Claire after bumping into her accidentally. Claire is curious about who is the new guy, and Eli lies that Jim is his cousin. Later, during their second meeting, Jim forgets about this version and insists that he's Toby's cousin. This inconsistency makes Claire suspicious, and she starts her own investigation, which leads to her discovering Jim's secret too.
The Janus Order starts to doubt Strickler's loyalty, so they decide to send an additional spy. That is how NotEnrique gets into Claire's family. He gets more than enough information as no one suspects him at first. Still, he gets careless eventually, and Claire learns that her brother is an impostor.
As for Strickler, he actually starts to play his own game earlier as he wants to keep Barbara safe. At some point, he realizes that letting Gunmar out isn't in his interests and tries to recruit some allies within the Janus Order. It doesn't work though, as everyone suspects some ulterior motives. Nomura is the only one who agrees to cooperate and Strickler is forced to unseal Angor Rot as he needs to obliterate Bular.
Strickler commands Angor to join the Trollhunter's team and help Barbara slay Bular. Angor isn't trusted at the Trollmarket though, as everyone remembers that he was Morgana's champion. However, Barbara and Jim decide to give him a chance.
Jim keeps learning more about human life and Barbara makes a hopeful suggestion that he can try to live among humans and go to school with his friends. She proposes that he stay at her house (hoping that he will agree), but Jim is still reluctant. Sure thing, he has bonded with Barbara, considers her close to family level already, and enjoys communicating with Toby, Eli, and Claire, but human society remains too foreign to him.
Meanwhile, Claire who is upset and angry for not noticing that her brother was switched with the changelings, starts to take staff fighting lessons from Angor. Angor also senses her magic talent and proposes to her to learn that one too (he isn't trusting of wizards, but he feels that Claire might develop her magic to the level when she can break his binding to Morgana). He doesn't reveal everything to her though.
Nomura ends up compromising her secret identity and the bridge location, but Strickler is smart enough to keep his own secret hidden while developing his relationship with Barbara.
The team Trollhunters defeats Bular and secures the bridge. Nomura doesn't get trapped as she isn't present during the final battle per Strickler's suggestion.
Strickler thinks that everyone is great now and plans to reform the Janus Order into an organization to capture the world for themselves. His only issue is that all the familiars are in the Darklands, meaning that Gunmar has control over changelings' ability to transform. So Strickler decides to fool Gunmar and stall for as long as possible. He genuinely believes that the Trollhunter's side has no interest in opening Killahead.
However, Strickler doesn't consider that Barbara plans to travel to the Darklands and get back Enrique (as well as other kids). She doesn't want to risk her young allies though, so she doesn't plan to take any teen with her, which heavily upsets both Jim, who considers himself a competent fighter, and Claire, who believes that saving her brother is her mission, rather than someone else's.
Meanwhile, Angor Rot who has more respect at the Trollmarket now for helping to defeat Bular, decides to reveal Strickler's true identity to Barbara and request her help in getting free. Barbara is both sad and furious to learn Strickler's secret as she has genuine feelings for him and believes that everything from his side is just a lie. She doesn't give Strickler any chance to explain himself.
And it's not the only trouble Strickler faces as there is a rebellion within the Janus Order, and both Strickler and Nomura are forced to run from everyone.
They both decide to bargain with Barbara's team, proposing Angor's freedom and the Eye of Gunmar in exchange for protection. Barbara is still angry, but she agrees.
Strickler realizes what exactly he lost and decides to venture to the Darkland alone and save familiars to show Barbara that he is interested in changing. He tricks Barbara into test-opening the bridge and sneaks to the Darklands in secret. He doesn't realize that Jim and Claire both have the same idea and sneak there too.
All three meet accidentally in the Darklands and form the team. As Strickler knows the layout of the Darklands, they don't have much trouble finding the nursery, but it's when they face a huge problem as goblins and Gumm-Gumm soldiers discover them. Claire escapes with Enrique, while Strickler and Jim stay back to stall for some time and then escape. They miscalculate though, as Jim's ability doesn't work in the Darklands, so both are captured.
Meanwhile, at the Trollmarket, the Tribunal finds out that the gates to the Darklands are open when Claire gets back. The bridge is destroyed per Usurna's command and despite Barbara's, Vendel's, and Blinky's protests, the plan is to dump fragments somewhere. The Tribunal is even more willing to execute the plan than in the canon as their Trollhunter isn't in the Darklands and Jim is considered an adequate sacrifice (and well, the Tribunal isn't interested in saving Strickler).
Barbara's team recovers the Bridge similar to how it happened in the canon. Steve accidentally stumbles upon them and learns the truth as well.
As Barbara has the amulet, the team has no trouble going to the Darklands. Steve is the one they leave watching the gate (as no one thinks that something bad can happen). In the Darkland, they save all the familiars and free prisoners from Gunmar's prison. They don't realize that Gunmar uses the distraction and goes out with a full squad of Gumm-Gumms (Steve sees them and runs away before anything happens).
Barbara's team isn't welcome at the Trollmarket after their stunt, besides Usurna gets in contact with Gunmar way earlier, resulting in a full takeover.
Strickler goes around, trying to recruit some of his fellow changelings, who currently have lost their ability to change forms, but only a few follow him as they, apparently, have a new leader. The leader in question is Morgana herself, who is searching for a good vessel to possess (and she is pissed that Angor is out of her control). Nevertheless, her involvement protects changelings from outright extermination by Gunmar's hand.
The Janus Order kidnaps Claire whom they deem to be the appropriate vessel and finding her turns out to be a problematic quest as only Angor Rot is skilled in shadow arts and Morgana blocks him.
The situation hurts Jim the most (as Claire is his girlfriend by this point). He is upset and subconsciously taps upon an ability he hasn't known to have which is sensing human souls. Jim temporarily senses all the souls in the world (and nearly goes crazy), but these mere moments are enough to locate Claire. The team raids the Janus Order's hideout and frees her. However, during the capture changelings used all kinds of methods to break Claire's mind, so Morgana still has some hold on her psyche (not to the point of full takeover still, but she can seize control for some time).
The only way to fight it is to find a skillful wizard. Blinky suggests finding Merlin's staff as he was the creator of the amulet. Getting rid of Morgana is vital at the moment as it stops Morgana from joining forces with Gunmar. Morgana would gladly try to possess someone else, but Claire basically traps her within her own soul, even if it's dangerous.
What neither Claire nor the team Trollhunters realize is that Morgana wants to get Merlin's staff, so visiting her tomb is vital for her too. She sends Claire some visions about its location, which everyone thinks to be a side effect of shadow magic.
Claire, Jim, Toby, Draal, and Angor Rot decide to go searching for Merlin's tomb while everyone else stays behind to stall Gunmar's army. Before Jim heads out, Barbara has a talk with him (as she is scared that there might be no other opportunity after, with all the big fighting incoming), telling him that she is nearly 100% sure he is her long-lost son, but even if he isn't, she still considers him her son.
Jim and his part of the team discover something odd during their quest - it's as if someone is pursuing them. But only at Merlin's tomb, when they locate the staff, the pursuer reveals himself. He introduces himself as Green Knight and demands to give him the staff. The fight for it is short as unlike everyone else, Green Knight can use his abilities inside the tomb. Draal is injured, and Angor gets hit by the cursed shard, falling under the Green Knight's control. Green Knight withdraws with the staff and Angor as the tomb starts to collapse. Jim, Claire, and Toby try to escape with injured Draal and stumble upon the sleeping Merlin.
Merlin is surprised to see all of them as he has expected the Trollhunter to wake him up, but still, he goes with them back to Arcadia. He is also quite at a loss about Green Knight and his identity, so he decides not to delay contacting Douxie.
Meanwhile, Morgana is also rather confused and pissed because of the Green Knight's appearance to the point that she comes to Claire in her dreams and proposes cooperation. Claire doesn't believe her though, thinking it's just a scheme to trick her.
Merlin examines Claire and admits that he cannot do anything with her situation as he isn't skilled in the dark arts, which only angers everyone.
The team tries to deduce who is the Green Knight and why he took Merlin's stuff, but have no success as he apparently doesn't contact Morgana's or Gunmar's party.
During one of his strolls, Jim meets Nari. She seems extremely familiar to him, but he cannot remember much. Nari apologizes to him for changing his life so much, and Jim finally gets his blocked memories back. Nari also tells him that she unwittingly turned Jim into her champion when she poured her magic into him and that the Arcane Order will try to make their move. She guesses that Green Knight is somehow connected to them and that he took the stuff to prevent the Trollhunter's party from defeating Gunmar.
Gunmar decides to attack without starting the Eternal Night - he's rather disappointed in Morgana by this point as her independent actions only complicate everything. He is thinking about capturing Merlin instead and forcing him to find another solution for trolls.
As for Barbara, she and her allies were gathering all possible allies to fight against Gunmar.
The final clash happens in the forest at night, and the Trollhunters' team wins. Most of the damage is prevented too, and the Heartstone, despite being drained is mostly intact, so no one goes to New Jersey, instead searching for a way to revitalize the Heartstone.
Morgana (through Claire) tries to bargain with the different team members to get her freedom, but everyone is cautious, besides, Merlin makes it clear that without his staff there is no way to free Morgana's body.
Bellroc appears before Claire, proposing giving Merlin's staff in exchange for telling them the location of Genesis Seals. Despite not knowing what those are, Claire feels that something is off and refuses. Morgana hears the proposal too, and starts to wonder what the Arcane Order plans as she also knows about the seals and what they can do. Morgana is against world destruction, she simply wants to reform it.
Meanwhile, Jim is cornered and attacked by Skrael, who is searching for Nari and mistook Jim's energy for hers. Jim ends up captured and the Arcane Order realizes that he can also wake Nari's titan and is definitely easier to mind-control.
The team learns about Jim's capture, and everyone, except Merlin, wants to save him. Merlin, however, shows some anxiety when it comes to his staff, revealing begrudgingly that he hid Genesis Seal within it and that the Arcane Order unknowingly possesses the key to world destruction already. However, his plan is to pretend that Genesis Seals are still in his possession and stall for as long as possible.
Morgana makes a deal with Claire, promising her to save Jim if she temporarily gives her full control over her body. Claire agrees after some consideration, fully realizing that Morgana's shadow magic is superior.
Morgana (in Claire's body) locates the Arcane Order's base, finds Angor, liberates him from the Green Knight's control, and teleports him away without explaining a thing. Then she comes over to Bellroc and Skrael (as Jim is near them too) and proposes to get them Genesis Seals in exchange for the staff which can free her from her confinement. Claire hears that from the confines of her mind and is enraged, thinking that Morgana has deceived her. However, it turns out that Morgana tricks the Order as she teleports the staff inside the Shadow Realm the second it's in her hand. Enraged Bellroc casts the spell which binds Morgana to her sealed body, but Claire manages to escape together with Jim.
However, during Morgana's stunt, Merlin and Douxie are attacked by the Green Knight while they are meeting with Nari. Merlin discovers that the Green Knight is King Arthur and gets mortally injured while protecting Douxie. Nari is captured.
Back at the Trollmarket Jim decides to use Merlin's staff and free Morgana as his token of gratitude (as he is a human who can speak Troll language, it's possible for him). Morgana is surprised to be free and calls Jim naive for her decision as she might try to take over the world in the future. However, she has already given up on that plan after seeing that humans and trolls can work side-by-side and the world may have a better future.
Her plan is to use the same spell as Merlin and seal Bellroc and Skrael. Douxie returns with the staff, updating everyone about the recent developments. The team decides to use Genesis seals as a lure, and Douxie recovers them with the help of Charlemagne.
Morgana is preparing the trap for her sealing technique with the assistance of Douxie and Claire. Everyone else faces the Green Knight, with Angor Rot finishing him but dying in the process.
Morgana's plan works, and she seals Bellroc and Skrael (Nari comes to help her too). She puts more into it to make it more effective, so she crumbles to dust in the process, but the world is saved.

I've got my own Ideas for a Trollhunter Barbara AU. Or alternate timeline because this is gonna take place post-ROTT. Most of ya'll might have an Idea of where I am going with this.
So instead of Toby getting the amulet, the amulet calls to Barbara while she's driving to the hospital over the canal. She'll meet Blinky and AAARRRGGHH!!! earlier than Jim did in Trollhunters. So Barabra gets to know what a Trollhunter is and what she is destined to do.
It's already night, and Jim's making dinner. When Barbara comes home, this is how it would go down:
Jim: Hey Mom, dinner's ready! Barbara: Actually, I'm kinda tired so I'm gonna head off to bed, GN! *franticly walks upstairs* As Jim walks out of the kitchen, he catches a glimpse of the amulet poking out from the side pocket of Barbara's purse.
Jim: *Screaming Internally and having a silent panic attack*

For Want of a Nail: You Are My Sunshine
What if Barbara wasn't out of the room when Jim used the bathbomb?
If Barbara was in the room when Jim used the bathbomb she would have dove in after him immediately after he was sucked down into the black water. Resulting in both of them being spat out into the woods as shapeshifting half trolls.
Some things would be easier with Barbara also being a troll by night, she needs even less sleep than Jim, so she doesn't struggle as much to get everything done. But she's still struggling with a massive amount of stress and uncertainty, not to mention dealing with a young tantruming Jim while barely keeping a handle on her own trollish instincts.
Instead of breaking her ribs, this culminates in young Jim biting her, hard enough to break her stony skin, and Barbara snapping and roaring at him with all her might, sending Jim running. Jim is horrified that he hurt his mother and drove her to such an extreme and Barbara is horrified that she snapped at her child and scared him so badly that he ran away from her. The two hug, apologize, and reconcile shortly after, but this marks a turning point towards repression for the both of them.
Their camping trips are a chance for both of them to run free and explore the wilderness in their troll forms. Jim also has much less of a hang up with needing to eat raw meat. Because his mom has the same dietary needs as him as a troll and he doesn't have an issue with her eating animals to survive, it's easier for him to accept doing the same thing himself.
When the CPS investigation gets started people are even more suspicious, from an outside perspective it appears that Barbara's keeping herself and Jim constantly isolated at home for unknown reasons. It's even speculated that the two of them are in a cult.
To confront Jim the other kids come up with some kind of distraction to get Barbara to leave the house. Then they break in with the confrontation with Jim, and subsequent conversation with Barbara when she returns, playing out mostly the same as in the main story.
The kids' reconciliation with Jim, while Barbara remains withdrawn, also plays out mostly the same. But when James breaks in and reveals that he was behind the bathbomb Barbara completely loses it. She attacks James and comes close to killing him, with one of the only things holding her back the fact that she doesn't want to execute someone in front of the kids. Instead she tells James that he has 24 hours to leave Arcadia, and if he's still here tomorrow night she really will kill him.
James books it out of town, but troll Barbara's confrontation with him was both loud and disturbing enough that it causes Nancy to rush over from across the street, where she sees both Barbara and Jim in troll form. Once things settle down and explanations are exchanged, Nancy becomes a supportive friends to Barbara in her struggles with her troll form, much the same way the other kids are to Jim.
Then after a long, fun summer. While biking to school one morning Jim and Toby discover an amulet in a pile of rubble, an amulet that whispers the name Barbara Lake.
TLDR: Both Barbara and Jim become trolls by night and humans by day, the amulet chooses Barbara as the Trollhunter with Jim and the kids being her support team.

Rinse & Repeat
Read on AO3
Day 1 Take 2
It’s not like Jim to set Barbara up on a date. In fact, he’s never done it before. But she won’t complain. Walt seemed to be very nice.
-------------------------------
Day 1 Take 5
“I love you, Mom.”
Jim hugged her for a long time, and she hated to break it off, but “Jim I’m going to be late for work.”
Jim pulled away, and there were tears in his eyes. She frowned, taking a moment to wipe them away. “What’s wrong?”
He grasped her hand for a moment and leaned into the touch. “Nothing, Mom. Be safe, okay?”
“Sure, honey.” All through the drive, she can’t shake the feeling that something is wrong. He wasn’t like that yesterday.
-----------------------------------
Day 1 Take 10
Barbara felt sick to her stomach and rushed to the bathroom. Things weren’t much better a few hours later, and she called the hospital to tell them she’d be out sick. She’d say she had food poisoning if she didn't know better.
“Where’s Toby?” she asked Jim when he got home from school.
Jim shrugged, seemingly unconcerned by her apparent illness. “He had to go home early. He wasn’t feeling well.”
Her son seems cold, calloused even. Seeing him wield a knife so expertly makes her shiver as he carves a ham. He’s carved ham before, but it’s different this time. She can’t put her finger on it, but it’s unnerving.
--------------------------
Day 1 Take…
Barbara jerked awake to the sound of the front door slamming closed. She looked out the window to see Jim tearing out of the garage on his bicycle. He wasn’t wearing a helmet, and it was still dark out. She couldn’t tell you why, but he seemed so desperate in that fleeting glance, that it had her chasing after him in the car. Instinct had her pulling the car off the road at the bridge and peering over into the canal just as the sun rose fully. Jim was kneeling in front of a pile of broken stone, shaking, and she could hear his wails from here. Even over the roar of some sort of monster on the underside of the bridge. She ignored the monster and awkwardly stumbled down the canal wall to Jim’s side.
She knelt next to him and wrapped her arms around him, pulling him close. He sobbed into her shirt, clinging to her tight enough to leave bruises. “I don’t want to do this again, Mom.”
“Do what, Jim?”
There, on the pavement, as the sun beat down on them, Barbara learned about a life she hadn’t lived yet. About love found, lost, found, and lost again. About trolls, wizards, and aliens. About a dead Toby and her brave son’s chance to save them all.
“But it just got worse,” Jim blubbered. “Every time, the harder I tried, the worse it got.”
“So you thought you could fix it all by saving the Trollhunter before you, Kanjigar was it?” Barbara concluded, and Jim nodded.
“But I couldn’t.”
She cursed her future self for allowing him to start this horrible cycle. “Jim, you can’t save everyone.”
“I know, Mom,” he snapped. “And don’t give me that stupid doctor lecture again.”
Well, there went that plan. “Jim, if you go into this trying to save everyone you love, you’ll find yourself doing just about anything.” Jim didn’t go stiff, exactly, but “You’ve made a lot of compromises, haven’t you?”
“I did what I had to.”
She pulled back to look him in the eye with all the sincerity and love inside her. “What you have to do is the right thing. If the world burns, it burns; you did the right thing with the knowledge you had. You have more knowledge now, but that means making harder choices. It means letting people go.”
“I can’t let them die again!”
“We can try to stop it, but promise me, no more forgoing the right thing.” She paused for a moment, staring at the stones. “Your father…when he served, he did that. Foregoing the right thing for the option that saved the most people or those he cared most about. Often those are one and the same, but when they aren’t…well, we both saw the results. I don’t want that for you.”
“I don’t know if I can anymore,” Jim admitted softly. “But I’ll tr-I’ll do my best.”
She pulled him close again, resting her chin on top of his head. How she wished she could take this burden from him, but Jim had learned through hard-won experience it had to be him who wielded the Amulet. “That’s all I can ask for. But…” how to put this gently, “I think I know why you’re failing.”
“Oh? Because I’d sure like to know.”
“You’re trying to have everything.” She felt him try to pull away, but she held him tighter. “Hear me out. Tell me, do you always try to set me up with Mr. Strickler?”
“Well, yeah. You guys are in love!”
“We were in love, in another life. Mr. Strickler and I may have fallen in love before, but right now he is our enemy and he may stay that way.”
Jim yanked out of her arms. “No! I’m not giving up on him. I know he’s good-”
“You know he can be good,” Barbara pressed. “Those are different things.”
“Fine then. What next? You want me to ditch Tobes and Claire too?”
She shook her head softly. “No, don’t push away the friends you have. Besides, I don’t think Toby would let you and you definitely can’t keep this a secret from him. And new friends may come to, like your two troll trainers. But just because they were your friends before doesn’t mean they will be again. People get to choose and they may not make those same choices. Nomura only became your friend after the Darklands, and without that, and that will not happen again, she may never be your ally. You have to let people choose and not assume you know them. If you want to rekindle what you had with Claire, you need to be upfront with her. Her relationship with you, even if it’s just friends, will actively put her in danger. She needs to know the risks.”
Jim dropped against her chest. “I can’t lose Claire. She’s going to think I’m nuts..”
“Being a hero means making sacrifices.”
Sobs shook Jim again. “It’s all gone. It’s really gone.”
“So build something new.” She stood and pulled Jim up with her. “We’ll go home and plan as best we can. You’re not alone in this. We’ll do the right thing this time and leave it at that, okay?”
Jim nodded and shuffled away. “Hey, aren’t you forgetting something?” she tried to say cheerfully. He turned to look at her as she bent to move the stones aside. Just as the blue light peeked through as the last stones fell, they both heard the Amulet speak.
“Barbara Lake.”
The look of horror and defeat on Jim’s face would be forever burned into her mind.
Day 1, Final Take
This story is complete for now, but I have more ideas I'd love to explore in it. So if you want to read more, let me know.

Trollhunter AU fanfics where Barbara Lake is the Trollhunter hit me bad because I’m Stricklake trash and I cannot stop thinking about the part where Merlin makes the human Trollhunter half-troll and Strickler is half-troll himself, kinda, Changeling and all.
“Oh no, she’s hot”
“I’ve lost my humanity, and you’re not human to begin with”
Kiss, kiss, kiss, kiss, kiss, kiss now!

It's Jim's first birthday after becoming human again! It seems that everyone remembered why Jim was in charge of the kitchen.
JA! It only took me 6 months to finish this JAJJAJAJAJ, it was the bonus day of the jimtober challenge, better late than never.
And there were also too many quality drawings for you, it was time for something silly 😂

Debbie might have cried over Nolan in the season 1 finale. But the way they made her lose it is such an important thing for the writers to show. She's sad, she's devastated, and she's also angry.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
This is a woman has repressed such immense sadness and anger. She held herself together and yet the moment she broke, her son immediately witnessed her breakdown.
Tumblr media
The way she immediately turned away from Mark when it sunk to her that he's really there. In the flesh. It breaks my heart, because she doesn't want him to see her that way.
Tumblr media
She didn't even want him to be near her at first. She could barely speak at all that she had to hold her hand out to stop him. And even though she did that, she let her other hand stay on her face to keep the tears covered from him.
Tumblr media
And Mark sees her. He's sad too. And he knows that his mom is tired as well. He knows she needs him.
I love how much he loves his mom and that he knows her enough to understand what she needs.
He didn't stay standing up then put a comforting hand on her shoulder. He kneeled at her side and waited for her.
Debbie didn't need space.
Debbie didn't need words of reassurance.
She just needed someone to be with her, to be held and given a space where she can just be.

Hi! Here's an interesting or slight angsty ask.
What if Barabra was chosen as the Trollhunter when Jim went back in time, but she and Strickler both regained their memories when she picked up the amulet?
So, much like in the canon, Jim planned for Toby to pick up the amulet, but the thing is that by the point Toby goes under the bridge - there is nothing there (and Toby thinks that Jim has pranked him or something).
The thing is, that instead of having a healthy nap after the night shift, Barbara wakes up and decides to drive to buy some groceries while Jim is at school. Her car mysteriously breaks down when she is crossing the bridge and when Barbara is out, she hears the voice calling for her.
When Barbara picks up the amulet, she gets a surge of memories from the different timeline. The same simultaneously happens to Strickler (who is lucky not to have any lessons at the moment, because that's too much to process even for him).
The thing is that neither Barbara nor Strickler has any idea that Jim has time-traveled (Barbara wasn't there and Strickler was, well, dead by this point). Both believe it to be some kind of miracle and that they are the only person who knows about the possible future.
Barbara's plan is to shield Jim from all the painful experiences while keeping all the pleasant things that came from trollhunting for him (like his bonds with trolls). She also plans to talk Walter into switching sides as soon as possible.
Strickler, on the other hand, plans to assist Jim (who he thinks is still the Trollhunter) from the shadows, working as a double agent. He genuinely believes that everything should be the same as in his memories, so he waits for anxious Jim coming to get his advice - only to get Jim who obviously tries to set his first meeting with Barbara (not that Strickler minds, but still it's highly suspicious). So Strickler starts to suspect that Jim knows too, which would perfectly explain everything.
Strickler still goes to meet Barbara - and learns that she's both the new Trollhunter and remembers everything. Together they start to plan how to reach a happy future for everyone. Strickler also reveals his suspicions about Jim.
Meanwhile, Jim discovers that Toby hasn't picked the amulet and panics as he has no idea who is the new champion. He goes home only to encounter both his mom and Strickler who want to hear the truth from him. There is no point in denying the obvious, so Jim tells everything about the time travel. He hopes that Barbara will let him help her (after all she knows that he is capable), but she is deadset that her son should take it easy this time.
Jim is rather upset to be sidelined as even without the amulet he still has his knowledge and battle experience. Barbara isn't convinced - until Jim comes to help during her escape from Bular and accidentally summons his armor from the future (apparently both new amulet and Excalibur time-traveled together with him).
Barbara finally realizes that Jim's calling doesn't bring him suffering only and apologizes to Jim.
Jim decides to start assembling the old team. He brings Toby first, then Claire (once they are on friendly terms), then approaches Douxie and introduces him to Claire. Douxie tells Claire about magic and starts teaching her.
Meanwhile, Strickler works as a double agent, preventing many troubles that could possibly happen to the trollhunters (including not switching Enrique with NotEnrique - he simply brings him to Arcadia as an assistant). Even though he tries to be discreet, other Janus Order members and even Bular start to suspect him. Strickler manages to escape accusations for a while (insisting on staying an insider even though Barbara tells him to get away asap). He manages to recruit Nomura and NotEnrique too. However, his luck isn't unlimited, so Strickler ends up captured, and other changelings propose using him as a hostage to lure Barbara.
The team frees Strickler, but much like in the canon, Killahead is still open. Strickler risks to close it and ends up trapped in the Darklands.
Unlike Jim, Barbara spares Bular, believing that he can get a chance at redemption. Bular now lives in the basement.
Otto unseals Angor Rot, but unlike Strickler, who eventually switches to his own goals, he is scared to betray Gunmar and uses Angor to get the amulet and recover Killahead fragments. Otto also contacts Usurna and makes an alliance with her.
Barbara is deadset on going to the Darklands and saving Strickler. Jim thinks that recovering triumbric stones should be easier this time (as they know their locations) until he remembers that Strickler gave him the last one and currently he's in the Darklands. Douxie and Claire try some search magic together, locating that one hidden in the Janus Order headquarters.
Jim decides to make a deal with Angor - to help him get free in exchange for his cooperation. After all, he knows how to use Kairosect now (and they recovered it just in case). Angor steals the triumbric stone, and Jim gets Inferna Copula.
The entire team travels into the Darklands - and discovers that Gunmar has control over Strickler's mind. It's the distraction that gives Gunmar the opportunity to escape the Darklands together with his army and march right into the Trollmarket.
Barbara is deadset on liberating Strickler (and surprisingly gets the most vocal supporter in the form of Angor Rot). Jim is also on her side, and he remembers how Draal was freed from the control in the old timeline. As much as both he and Barbara hate the idea, it seems that they need to lure Gunmar together with Strickler to Merlin's Tomb (though, Barbara doesn't intend to let Merlin ruin anyone's life this time).
There's also the situation with Morgana as in this timeline she has no chance to possess Claire, and Jim remembers that in the past she used to be kind, so he wonders if he can convince Morgana to come back to the good side (even though she has to atone for all the evil she caused).
As for Bular, he is the most conflicted as living with Barbara and Jim taught him a lot about humans, making him reconsider his old ways. Bular hopes to convince his father to stop the war and live peacefully, so he heads to the Trollmarket in secret from the team. Obviously, Gunmar isn't interested in listening to his son and is enraged. He imprisons Bular, giving him the last chance to change his mind.
Meanwhile, Morgana contacts Gunmar through the changelings, proposing an alliance once again. Gunmar goes to search Merlin's staff, unaware that he actually acts the way that Team Trollhunters want.
Strickler is finally free, but both Barbara and Jim underestimate Gunmar, and he gets away with Merlin's staff. Besides, this time Gunmar still hasn't killed off the Janus Order, so he has no obstacles in freeing Morgana.
Merlin, who wakes up, has a lot of information to process (starting with Barbara as the Trollhunter and ending with the second amulet from a different timeline). He isn't happy with the time meddling though as he believes that it may lead to disastrous results. Not that Barbara, Jim, or Strickler is listening to him.
Jim seeks Angor's assistance and they go to meet with freed Morgana. Initially, she is hostile, but Jim shows her Excalibur and asks if she has given up on humans entirely. Morgana agrees to give Jim a chance to demonstrate that a different solution can also work.
Morgana breaks her alliance with Gunmar and helps her changelings to escape. She also frees Bular.
Without Morgana's support, Gunmar loses the fight with Team Trollhunters. Morgana also liberates all the trolls who fell under Decimaar's control (Angor decides to give her a chance after that, even if he is far from fully forgiving her).
Morgana doesn't become a full ally as her relationship with Merlin is extremely complicated, but she agrees to assist Jim and Barbara and show some magic to Claire.
As the fight was at the Trollmarket, Arcadia is still mostly unaware of trolls or magic. Besides, despite some ruination, there is no need to travel to New Jersey.
However, it also means that the Arcane Order can attack while the team is in Arcadia.
Jim goes to meet with Aja and Krel, forming an alliance with them and telling them about the time travel stuff. He promises to help to deal with Morando and asks them both to help with defending Arcadia.
Green Knight attacks earlier than in the first timeline. He targets Merlin, who barely manages to escape. Meanwhile, Bellroc tries to recruit Morando (without any success), and Skrael contacts Morgana, reminding her that she's still the Arcane Order's champion (she also refuses to cooperate).
The Arcane Order attacks while everyone is distracted because of Morando. They capture both Nari and Merlin (the latter to get the location of Genesis seals from him).
Jim is conflicted about whether he should tell everyone about Green Knight's true identity (especially Morgana) but ends up deciding against hiding the truth. As he suspected, Morgana doesn't take it well as she wants to reach out to her brother once again even though Jim tells her she failed in the first timeline.
Morgana encounters the Green Knight, but much like Jim has warned her, her words fail to reach her brother. Morgana is injured by the obsidian shard but manages to escape.
The Arcane Order tries to get the information about the Genesis seals from Merlin's mind, but it's something he actually predicted so they fail to get anything from him, despite all the measures used.
The team makes a plan to save Nari and Merlin. Jim has a clash with Arthur. Two Excaliburs is the time paradox, but it turns out that Jim's is the more powerful one as it is powered by rightful ideas. Arthur's Excalibur shatters and Arthur perishes.
Douxie saves Merlin and Merlin finally admits that he has lost his way fighting against the Arcane Order. Merlin decides to seal Bellroc and Skrael with the cost of his life this time, finally stopping to sacrifice everyone else and putting his own life on the line. However, his own magic seems not to be enough. Douxie is willing to join his master, but Morgana, who arrives just in time stops him (as she believes Douxie still has much to do for the new world) and joins Merlin in sealing instead. The seal takes all of their magic and life force.
It's not a permanent measure though. Nari tells everyone that Bellroc and Skrael simply don't believe that peace between different kinds is possible, so they decide to build a happier world while the seal is still intact.
