is this ship popular because it’s legitimately compelling or is it popular because it’s the easiest to decontextualize and write college roommate AUs about?

People who are like "I will never use AI" are like people who refuse to use automatic translator because of moral principles, specially because modern translators are mostly neural networks, aka AI

Deepl is really useful tool and you guys need to chill.
I understand not everyone has need to use AI, I personally never use it; but saying "I will refuse this tool with actually useful applications because of some moral principles" is ridiculous.
This isn't real concern with the negative applications of AI, it's a moral panic; and like all moral panics it's hurting more people than AI, just look at all the idiots cheering for Disney and Universal to expand copyright protections because it might hurt Midjourney
When it comes to AI we need to be wary of the real dangers: Labor exploitation, fake news, misinformation, stuff like that; not an imagined moral purity.
Seriously, using neural network translators like Google Translate or Deepl is not gonna destroy humanity
(that said I would encourage to stop using ChatGPT because it's really bad and makes up shit, use DeepSeek instead. Also don't trust it blindly, read what it says and fact check if needed, it's only a tool and needs a human to operate it properly)
What really ticks me off when talking about ai is when people are like "it's unavoidable" or "you'll have to learn to use it someday" or "its going to be part of the future" like no it's plenty avoidable actually if you have a spine stronger than a dandelion. You simply say "no" and continue to use your own goddamn brain.

Oh yeah, totally. I own leather things that are 20+ years old and are in perfect conditions so they're good for the environment because they mean less trash is produced
I'm just noting that there's no death involved in wool, there's literally not downsides to wool
Unironically, vegans need to be advocating for more and better sheep, llama, and alpaca farms. Wool is one of the best fabrics we have in terms of versatility, longevity and most importantly, insulation. Even wet, it retains 80% of it’s insulation potential.
AND IT DOESN’T SHED MICROPLASTICS

Leather is skin, wool is hair, it's completely different

may be a hot take but i think the fact minors can access 18+ content by just clicking a button that says 'yes im totally over 18 trust me' is like. totally fine tbh. its a non-issue. i dont care if curious teenagers are looking at porn. they've been doing that for as long as porn has existed. id rather teens explore their sexuality through images on the internet than rush into real life experiences when they're not ready for it yknow. the UK is trying to put stricter age verification in place (which in turn is becoming an online privacy nightmare) and like. for what. who is it helping. why is this a problem.

On the note of Elon musk building shit that impacts marginalized communities, his Space X launch test site in Boca Chica is affecting the majority Mexican-American community! Every time a rocket goes off my grandparents home gets more damaged due to seismic activity. Also he’s dumping wastewater into the Laguna Madre which affects the shrimping industry which Port Isabel relies on. And the debris from the rockets fucks with the wildlife. But it’s space endevours and not AI no one talks about it
i mean this is what genuienly sometimes makes me angry about the ai discourse, right, people will momentarily like magically become aware of an incredibly severe and important issue but only for the brief moment and narrow understanding they need to complain about midjourney or whatever

The next time you want to call a sequence “Well animated” do yourself a favour and rewatch it with the sound muted. Often times ir’s only after you remove sound from something that you can truly see if the animation underneath is actually good or not, or if the music/acting is manipulating you.
….but on that same note, “Well animated” does not mean “Fluidly animated”. Because something can be VERY well animated and have few frames if those frames are in the right place, or have a shit ton for frames and be badly animated because it’s over-animated and moves way too much.

“To me, the core of that attraction is that she is a better reporter than he is. Think about being Superman for a second. The Olympic record for weightlifting is 1,038 lbs., but you could lift more than that as a child. The record for the 100 meter dash is 9.58 seconds, but you can travel over 51 miles in that time. Going to Vegas? You don’t need your X-Ray vision to win at Blackjack, because you can just count the cards while holding down a conversation about nuclear physics. Without really trying, you are better at just about everything than anyone else in the world. However, (as Mark Waid once pointed out in a podcast with Marv Wolfman) none of that really translates to your chosen profession. Typing really fast does not help your prose. Being able to lift a tank does not help you convince a source to go on record. It is as near to competing straight up with normal people as Superman would ever be capable of. Even then, it comes easily enough to him that you get a pretty lofty perch at a great paper very early in your career. It is just in this one context, there is someone better than you are: Lois Lane. As mild-mannered reporter Clark Kent, you reach up for the first time in your life and she rejects you. To me, it is an inversion of the Luthor story. Luthor sees someone above him and feels hate. Superman sees someone above him and feels love.”
Dean Hacker, comment on “Giving Lois Lane A Second Look, For The First Time” by Kelly Thompson (CBR: She Has No Head!)
