This is a Dean Fertita appreciation post. I miss his Gretsch white falcon though.

Spotify says Tropical Gothclub has 1967 listeners per month, and I’m on a mission to push that number above 2000 because Dean Fertita deserves more even if he had no intentions to make a solo record or tour with that album.
Who’s with me?

If you ask me this is a Dead Weather EP. Let's pretend for a second it is. I love it.

As a Dead Weather fan I have good reasons to hype up Dean’s solo album so here we go:
Dean’s new solo album is great, give him a listen! “Needles” is a banger! If you like the catchy riffs in the Queens of the Stone Age you will like it. Anyone who says he’s the guitarist who plays like Jack White and that’s it, should listen to this album, because he has his own guitar playing style and it really shows here. It’s like if you would put together the best simple catchy guitar riffs from the Queens of the Stone Age and The Dead Weather with a Brendan Benson-like vocal on the top of it, and the whole sound is less dark. The instrumental parts are so creative, I always loved the way he writes songs in The Dead Weather, like there’s always this perfect balance between the vocals and the instruments and he wrote these solo songs with the same attitude which I like. In my opinion this album is better than the Hello = Fire was. The other best thing about the whole album is it not falls into the “boring tired dadrock” cathegory for me, even if Dean is a dad and even if he plays in almost every rock band. If someone would show me this music I wouldn’t guess it comes from a 52 year old guy (omg how can he be 52 though?!), which is a compliment. Nothing ground-breaking is going on here, but it wasn’t his intention to write something like that, I can tell. It’s just a fun garage-rock album with some catchy pop moments like “Thunder towards you” and if you are okay with that Tropical Gothclub is for you.

‘TROPICAL GOTHCLUB’ (out 4th November).
“‘Double Blind’ revolves around the idea of learning to understand the things we go through without a preconceived notion about how they will make you feel,” Fertita says. “Love can change you deeply and doesn’t matter if it’s a placebo or the real thing. Everything is an experiment and experimenting is experience.”
