Not sure if this is a jail opinion or not, but I like SOTB with the Lana feature as is— I think her backing vocals add a lot to the song as is and I’ve never had any desire for her to sing a verse on it. The only reason I’d ever want a larger feature for that song is to make the fans shut up— it got really exhausting to constantly see fans complain about it/insist that this was proof Taylor hates women or whatever. I’m curious to see what I think of the new version though!!

As someone who genuinely loves "Snow On the Beach" and gets so many warm soft happy feelings from it - I have zero problem with Lana's as-is vocals. Nor do I typically have an issue with her restrained approach to feature vocals generally. I'm excited to hear the new version and think it's going to be lovely but the original was beautiful and I liked Lana's understated vocals. Plus her influence is all over the lyrics which is why I love the collab so much because it actually feels and sounds like a coming together of two lyrical minds which is more important to me than vocal presence.

I think it's a disservice to the complexity and rawness of "hoax" to simplify it down to one thing. I talked about it at length here and how it felt like it was a song driven by a lot of messy emotions that all kind of converge around a similar emotional storm - but are about multiple people. Which Taylor corroborated in the long pond sessions.

"What if not all of these feelings are about the same person. What if I'm writing about several different very fractured situations. Like one is about love, one is about a business thing that really hurt, and one is about a relationship I consider to be family but that really hurt."

In hindsight, I think it's very evident that "hoax" is describing all the ways she gave multiple people her "best me's" and "endless empathy" - even as they failed to do that for her. And feeling complicated feelings about that. Because surely love (familial, romantic, platonic) isn't easy and requires sacrifice and hard work and effort. But how much sacrifice? How much am I supposed to give? Do I have a superiority complex because I think a little too hard about how patient and kind and gracious I am? Do I resent these people just a teeny tiny bit for not only pulling from my energy well but also not giving me enough credit for all that I do for them? When is it my turn? Should I feel bad that I want it to be my turn?

My swiftie jail opinion is that the production on Girl At Home (TV) is..... kinda awful tbh. I like how soft the original is in comparison!! The busy techno house music vibes just Don't do it for me 🤷‍♀️

Are we still doing Swift Jail? Because I've been mulling it over in my mind, and I think I actually do slightly prefer the OG ATW to the 10MV. Still love 10MV, still listen to it all the time and love the new lyrics, but I like having the bridge be the climax of the song. I like the song wrapping up after the final strike of keeping the scarf, rather than sort of meandering on for 90 seconds because when they sat down to record they figured out it was only an 8.5 min song but she'd promised 10.

Not a jail opinion, but I wish people would stop calling Taylor a capitalist. Yes, her stuff is too expensive. Yes, the different album versions are a little excessive (just put it all on one album blondie). But as well as being her dream, it’s also her business. It probably takes a lot to make good quality merch like she has. You have to calculate in costs, labor, shipping, materials, etc etc…

Please stop calling her a capitalist.

On the subject I just feel like it's not something worth arguing about or belabouring.

I very much don't subscribe to the idea that you need to spend money to be a fan or your worth/value as a fan is measured in how many albums you own, concerts you attend, merch that you buy, etc.

Participate in what you can, opt in where you want to, take advantage of what's free/accessible to you. Everything else is just ... yes, a business. And I'm not going to fault her (or any celeb) for a cash grab because that's the way business works. And I can choose to be part of said grab or opt out.

Swiftie jail opinion- some songs just aren’t better in acoustic form than the studio form. Like sometimes the harmonies and the big production just makes the song from okay to replay worthy. Occasionally 1 instrument can feel lacklustre and only her angelic voice is carrying the weight of the song. (Ik ik I can already hear the shocked gasps in the room).

Obviously if I heard her play even my least favourite song LIVE in person, it would bump up the song to top 20 and make for an unforgettable night. But….since thats not in the cards, I’ll overlook some songs that deserve a full production live performance.

MmmmMMMmmmmmmmmm. Hm! I hear what you are saying here in that some songs really do benefit from having the full heft of a big production behind it because the production is almost like a character in and of itself but for me as someone who fell in love with Taylor as girl with guitar singing her tiny feelings it's exceedingly rare that I don't lust for an acoustic version of something.

But I do understand this and see what you are saying.

I guess for me I'm a "yes hello I will take both!" but also acoustic *grabby hands*
