So I guess we need a new home.

As most of you have probably heard by now, this site will no longer be allowing "adult content” starting Dec 17.  Though they’re taking pains to make it sound as though they can do this without evicting the queer community as a whole, the history of algorithm & report based efforts of this nature (as well as this site’s history of taking every shortcut they can when it comes to moderation & community management) tells us that this is highly unlikely.  Even if this wasn’t true, any space for queer adults that does not allow for 1) sexual expression & 2) sex workers is an incomplete one at best.  

To that end, I think it’s important that we begin work immediately on a social network that is created & owned by us & will provide a home & freedom of expression for all of us.  If you are 18+ & interested in helping with this effort AND:

Have experience in any relevant areas of web development (full stack, front end, back end, iOS/Android, server management), web design, or project management AND

Have at least 20 hours per week to spend on a project that will initially pay you entirely in equity (all initial team members will have equity stakes in writing) rather than cash AND

Have the self-motivation to work from home under these terms on a project that will almost certainly have its frustrating stages

...then please either DM me here or email me at jules@starflower-studios.com with a summary of your experience, your availability, and a brief statement of why you’d like to be involved in this project. If you’re not in a position to help directly, please boost this post!

Aaaaanyway, I just learned that my whole blog was marked as explicit because of my icon. None of my posts showed up in the tags because of my icon. 

Which is a picture of a cat. 

And now that I have changed the picture of a cat to the same picture of a cat but with more blue, everything’s fine. It got reversed instantly. This is totally not absolutely ridiculous at all...

So... if your blog is currently marked as explicit and your icon kinda, vaguely resembles skin color... just change your icon...

I followed the procedure to see the post and took a couple of screen shots. Can someone please tell me what this post I relogged from @mae-jones that was originally posted by @whoeveryoulovethemost contains that could be considered nsfw content?

Well, it’s been a good run!

And I’ve had fun!

Since we all know now that tumblr has decided to shit the bed, I am going to go ahead and start looking for other avenues of content creation immediately and also begin to backup my blog offline. We all know for a fact that tumblr algorithms as they are are horrendous and will probably be abused and unmanned, so assuming that there will be a horrible launch on the 18th is not unfounded.

Now, of course, I do not have any intention of deleting this blog or leaving for good until the land has gone fallow and I am absolutely positive that there’s nothing left to be had, but I am predicting mass migration to some other platform, so I’m going to go ahead and begin preparations now. Pillowfort.io looks very promising, and if they have any wits about them, they will certainly take advantage and open their site within the next month-- the timing could not be more ripe. Leaving Tumblr.

I am going to be deleting all the posts on this blog (except the spite porn, which I'll just make Tumblr delete themselves) and jumping ship, but fear not, my 9 followers; they will be reposted elsewhere.

I can be found on Twitter at @iggs_and_toast and on Pillowfort at @iggs-and-toast. Some of the less NSFW work will be reposted on my main art account on those respective platforms.

I created this account to get out of a long art slump by just drawing gratuitous self-indulgent nonsense and posting it somewhere that was separate from my more “established” fan art identity. It was a fun three weeks and it’s a shame this shit happened right away, because I do legit respect NSFW art as an art form and it’s a skill I hope to get better at.

It’s easy to say there’s no skill in just drawing dicks and boobies and sex acts, but there is skill in making it not look ridiculous and hopefully making people feel something other than just sexual titillation. I want to create art that isn’t just sexual, but sensual. And that challenge might be enough to artistically inspire me again, which I intend to pursue regardless of attempts at censorship and deplatforming.

Anyway, thanks for the brief support, and I hope to see you all elsewhere on the net. ✌️

An interesting thing happened to me today, which was either caused by Tumblr or my own forgetfulness/negligence. I exported/downloaded my blog last week after the announcement, which took a full day to export for a 4 year old blog with 3000+ posts on it. I wanted to tell someone how large the zip file ended up being, but I couldn’t find it anywhere!

Checked my Chrome Downloads history, and saw this:

Did I delete it?? Did I do that by accident?? Did I move it to a storage drive and then delete it from my hard drive because it was so large?? I have zero memory of any of this.

I went to download the export again, because I recalled this link existing:

The button was still there. Okay, good. Except when I clicked it, it told me that my download link had expired.

So now I’m thinking there might be a chance that the zip file, too, is something temporary?? Is that possible—for a zip file to delete itself after X amount of time—or am I really just that forgetful and had to have done it myself?

Anyway, my blog is exporting again, but who knows what weirdness will happen when the exporting still continues into December 17.

All my art and fic is backed up elsewhere. I'm not too fussed over reblogs I made, either, but I’ve certainly made a lot of meta posts over the years that I would like to back up, and hopefully I will have some way of doing that at some point.

Just a heads up to make sure you still have your blog export ZIPs and they haven’t mysteriously deleted themselves.
