Outstanding performance by Dominique Dodge of “Mrs. Judge,” a Carolan tune. Take a listen--she deserves your ear. :)

#OTD in 1738 – Irish harpist and composer, Turlough O’Carolan, died at Alderford House, the home of his patron Máire MacDermott Roe, in Ballyfarnan, Co Roscommon.
Death of Irish harpist and composer Turlough O’Carolan. His wake lasted four days! At age 18, he was blinded by smallpox and took to playing the harp. O’Carolan travelled Ireland most of his life as a wandering minstrel and composer achieving a level of fame that was unusual for the time. At age fifty he married and fathered seven children. O’Carolan’s most famous work is his Concerto. Featured…

9 people you would like to get to know better
Thank you for the tag @belgianreader2! :)
1. Three Ships: Cherik, Jesse/Lupe (A League of Their Own), Masriel (His Dark Materials)
2. First ever ship: Ron and Hermione, if one has to be honest.
3. Last song: Some harp tunes by Turlough O' Carolan, very soothing.
4. Last movie: I seldom watch movies but I did watch and enjoyed Three Nights a Week, an introduction to the drag world, to the night world, an ode to found families and creativity in face of adversity.
5. Currently reading: I just finished Lucie Azema’s Les femmes sont aussi du voyage on women travellers, less of a textbook but more an invitation to travel, to see the world by yourself. And then I will perhaps start the book of poems I bought yesterday at the book fair or something else, we shall see.
6. Currently watching: I watch even less series than I watch movies but I watched Smiley and it was quite good.
7. Currently consuming: Books, plenty of them, which I always do in-between jobs, as if I wasn’t spending enough time buried deep in books while working.
8. Currently craving: Shakshuka or veggie lasagna, I love these to bits.
And we will be two not to know who to tag, Belgian dear, but if you feel like participating, @lena221bee, @sherlock-is-no-sociopath and whoever of my mutuals feel like doing it is welcome to it :)

I remember well the first time I heard the music of the Irish harper and composer Turlough O'Carolan (1670 - 1738). It would have been 1973 and the Irish group Planxty were playing at Reading University Folk Club.

Enter The Fadolín - Behind the Tracks - O'Carolan's Farewell to Music
Happy New Year! Here's a post about "O'Carolan's Farewell to Music", by Bach's contemporary Turlough O'Carolan, a tune I learned from the repertoire of fiddler Martin Hayes.
Dear friends, Happy New Year! Next up on the series of “Behind the Tracks” posts about my new album “Enter The Fadolín” (available now exclusively via Bandcamp as a download or handmade autographed CD-R, and also as a PDF collection of sheet music you can play through on your own) is a composition by the blind Celtic harper Turlough O’Carolan called “O’Carolan’s Farewell to Music”.Listen to it…

How Could I Forget Him?
How Could I Forget Him?
When I wrote of music, I forgot to mention the music of Turlough O’Carolan. His music is sublime. Turlough O’Carolan (1670-1738) was a blind Gaelic harper, composer, and singer whose great fame is due to his gift for melodic composition. He was the last great Irish harper-composer and is considered by many to be Ireland’s most…

I remember well the first time I heard the music of the Irish harper and composer Turlough O’Carolan (1670 – 1738). It would have been 1973 and the Irish group Planxty were playing at Reading University Folk Club. As a student haunt, it was one I vastly preferred to the lecture hall or seminar; Russian social thought of the 18th century was never as exciting as this! But let’s not digress. Planxty had been booked by Hilary James, who – no coincidence here – features on this recording. The band played a couple of Carolan pieces, and I was immediately captivated by the strength and grandness of the melodies. I subsequently became intimately acquainted with their first album and lost count of the times I heard their versions of Si Bheag Si Mhor and Planxty Irwin.
