Quick rundown of each of my stories' main protagonists!

King's Calibur - Alistair A young sword-wielding teen Battlemage determined to find King Artax's sword, God's Will, and bring it back home so he can become a hero to his kingdom. Alistair travels the world making friends and enemies during his search, clashing with Artax's bodyguard Icarus repeatedly as the latter wishes to claim the throne.

King's Calibur: Soulbound - Old Icarus The revived main villain from King's Calibur. Now with only 1% of his soul left after a botched harvesting, he sets off to find the cult responsible for stealing his soul, the Madmen Infinitus. Along the way, he discovers the secret to his past villainy and works to redeem himself, while coming to grips with the fact that he's past his prime and will likely never get his past power back.

Aeon Quest - Wyte A lazy preteen boy that acts as "guard" to his miniscule village alongside his friend Gale. After a bandit raid leaves Wyte's parents dead and Gale missing, the former takes the village's only valuable left -one of the twelve Aeon Chronicles- and sets out on a grand quest: finding Gale to bring him home, and the other eleven Aeon Chronicles, to bring his parents back to life. Makes many allies during his quest, including a spirit inside his first Chronicle, who teaches him how to fight for himself as a Tower. Among other enemies, Wyte and his friends eventually come into conflict with Jet, an evil Scholar who wishes to have the Chronicles for himself.

Lawmen - Nikolai "Nick" Ross In a world recovering from apocalypse, young man Nick runs a family business, the Freelance Lawmen, as the Freelance Sheriff. With his buddy, the newly hired Freelance Deputy Scott "Scotty" Freeman by his side, Nick answers calls for help all across the nation. One of their most frequent enemies is Marcus King, an extremely strong and charismatic man seemingly capable of charming or punching his way into any position.

Walker - Alex Hawke, aka DayWalker, eventually just Walker After being infected with the highly mutagenic Scarlet Plague, Alex is one of many granted miraculous shapeshifting powers, but decides to use them for good alongside his mysterious mentor Wolf. After a short time Wolf betrays Alex, revealing himself to have been Patient Zero and main spreader of the Scarlet Plague, and that his time mentoring Alex was just using him as a muscle to clear out any possible competition from rival Scarlet Mutant gangs. Determined to put a stop to the many evils in Sentinel City, Alex dawns the moniker Walker, becoming a superhero and fighting Wolf, the corrupt United Earth government Alex once served, and a menagerie of supervillains that have just started popping up.

Paradise - Paradise (organization) Inspired by Walker's actions, a group of various other "super-vigilantes" decide to band together after the former's disappearance. Calling the new club "Paradise", the crew begins steadily growing in size over time while doing their best to curb the evils of a rapidly growing population of super-villains.

Genesys - Vector Far, far in the future, long after a Human-Robot War, a young human Craftsman named Vector is one day harassed by a group of gang-affiliated tweakers trashing his scrapyard home. His short personal mission of revenge gets him in trouble with human mob queen Lady Luck, and he is forced to begin taking missions from her in exchange for "protection". Meanwhile the ancient robot Machina remains in operation, monitoring Vector as he is sent to recover a series of blueprints from the long-missing Genesys bloodline, while slowly taking over the machines and systems running all the major cities. Vector, Lady Luck and Machina's struggle over these "Genesys Files" becomes a fight over the fate of humanity itself.

The Last Vanguard - Leonidas Leonidas wakes from a faulty cryogenic sleep, now suddenly the last member of once universally-known mercenaries The Vanguards. With barely any memory of past events, Leonidas does all she can think to do and begins accepting missions again, gaining attention of multiple galaxies right off the bat. Major Adam Genesys of the Terra Colony's military is assigned to monitor Leonidas' activity, and assigns missions to her in exchange for finding info on the other Vanguards' fates. Over time Leonidas loses her mind due to her suit's malfunctions causing her to be unable to communicate in any complex manner. Seeing Leonidas become a monstrous killing machine concerned only with completing her missions, Adam grows concerned with her status as a universe-wide threat.

◇ Island Paradise Shell Mural Resized (in two sizes) ◇

First is the Seashell Wall Mural from IP, where the original is humongous in size, in four tiles and two storeys (gasp!) that makes it unusable when you build small or average sized homes. This is now resized to an almost one-storey wall height, and an even smaller version that's like a regular painting. All original presets are copied with same four CASTable channels, with a price of §200 for the wall height version and §100 for the smaller version. Both found in Decor>Paintings and Decor>Sculptures. Same polycount with the IP version, base game compatible.

…and BONUS! These resized versions also come in the form of functional mirrors! They have the same prices as the non-mirror versions, and four channels with only the first preset copied from the original. Do note though that Late Night is required for these to appear in your game *sorry I needed a mirror with four channels and I can't make a base game one because Texture Tweaker is currently bitching at me T.T /rant*

◇ (More) Freedom Fence ◇

Base game's Freedom Fence with slats reduced on the backside. Comes in two versions: a regular version with no posts at the corner, and a second version with a post. Both have two CAStable channnels with price of §20, found in Build mode>Fences. Created by removing some mesh parts from the original fence, so pretty much lesser polycount. Also base game compatible.

Request: The first time Shanna and Daryl met.

Shanna believed in soul mates. She believed that some people really were made for each other; and that their souls would wander around, searching for the missing half. And when they finally found each other, it would be like fireworks. She never admitted to it, but even at the age of 17 she longed to find hers. Hoped for anyone that would understand her where her family could not.

That's why she met him in a dirty house that belonged to a friend of a friend. The chemical smell from whatever they were cooking in the kitchen mingled with whatever they were smoking in the living room. Ron had told her that smell was called 'tweaker's paradise'. "I liked it better when it was just a stoner's paradise," she'd told him. Before the place had become a hang out for skank's and meth-head's; but without them she never would've met Daryl.

The eldest Dixon brother had met Ron during their latest stint's in jail. They'd both gotten picked up for public intoxication outside of their favorite bar, and the rest was history. Shanna's father had once said that Merle Dixon didn't play well with other's, but the man that she met had seemed friendly enough. He had always come to Ron's alone, usually going directly into the kitchen. That day had been different.

She had heard Merle come in, and heard him mumbling to someone as he'd shuffled past the couch she was sitting on. But suddenly it was her turn in the smoking circle and the curiosity died instantly. For all she knew Merle had been talking to himself.

It was unclear how much time had passed; Shanna melted into the back of the couch and laughed at old re-run's of Tom and Jerry for what felt like hours. A text from Jessa wondering when she'd be home alerted her to the late hour. Peeling herself off the couch she stood, waving to the different people around the room.

Then she saw him; standing in the corner drinking a beer, one of Ron's methed out friends trying to talk him up. He wasn't even acknowledging the woman in front of him, but that didn't seem to faze her. He looked miserable, like he was hoping that the floor would open up and swallow him whole. Shanna watched the exchange for a few more minutes, debating if she should intervene or just go home. It was already close to midnight.

Pocketing her key's she walked over to the odd duo, hearing Mindy or Cindy going on about her latest bender. Shanna slid in next to Daryl, surprising both him and Mindy/Cindy. "You know he ain't heard a word you've said, right?"

The woman's face went from a chalky-pale to an angry red, wide eyes bulging out of their sockets, "you think you have something better to say, sweetheart?"

Shanna shrugged her shoulders, "I dunno, I don't got no stories about tweakin' out and staying up for three day's straight." Smiling sweetly she paused, letting Mindy/Cindy seethe for a moment, "but I think I'm pretty interesting without all that."

"Does that Sheriff dad of yours know that you're here?" Mindy/Cindy looked pleased with herself for that one. The smug look on her face thinking she had now somehow won.

"He sure don't," Shanna answered coolly, "why, you gonna go tell him you saw me here? That you were passing by outside and saw me in through the window and you thought you'd go down to the station and let him know about it?" Shanna shook her head, amused, "why don't you go talk to someone who's actually gonna listen to ya. This guy ain't interested."

Mindy/Cindy wanted to have the last word. She made an awful face as she tried to formulate whatever insult she wanted to throw out, but nothing came. Instead she huffed rather loudly, and Daryl and Shanna watched as she stormed into the kitchen. Maybe she would have better luck in there.

"Thanks," Daryl said quietly from beside her, taking a sip from his beer. "I been tryin' to get her to go away for almost an hour."

She smiled over at him, "that's the problem with those meth-heads, they never know when to quit."

Laughing, he looked at her with an amused glint in his eyes, "so you're the Sheriff's daughter?"

"One of 'em," pushing herself away from the wall she did a mock curtsey, "Shanna Sivits, 'The Sheriff's Daughter' at your service."

"Daryl Dixon," his eyes watched her, for some reason trying to figure her out. Shuffling his feet he stuffed his free hand into his front pocket, "it's late Sheriff's Daughter, shouldn't you be gettin' home?"

"Yeah you're right," fishing her keys out of her pocket she twirls them around her finger, "it get's much later I'm gonna turn into a pumpkin." For some reason it felt like her feet were glued to the floor, she had absolutely no desire to leave. "Don't uh, don't be a stranger," she says before finally forcing her feet to move towards the front door.

Daryl smiled to himself as he watched her go, making a note to himself that anytime Merle was going over there that he would come too. Just in case the Sheriff's Daughter might be there.

Before the synthesizer, electronic experimenters were already at work with another instrument—the tape recorder.

Before the ability to record, musical excellence, virtuosity and authenticity were associated with playing a live instrument. In fact, recording was often perceived as a ‘dishonest’ activity by some artists at its introduction. Until it fell into the hands of those willing to experiment…

Of course magnetic tape isn’t the first recording medium—we had paper or wax cylinders and vinyls discs before. But magnetic tape had an excellent frequency response, it was cheap, and you could easily cut and splice it. In other words it was a tweaker’s paradise.

The ability to record and especially manipulate sounds was a completely new concept that tape unlocked. You could take music out of its time and place, hear it again, cut it up and rework it into something else. The tape recorder was turned on its head and became an instrument.

In the big picture of music it was the beginning of a whole new era of creativity—we’re still feeling the effects right now.

Here are 5 key moments in the history of tape music that changed the way we make music today.

1. The First Electronic Music Composition

“The cradle of electronica is Cairo” wrote Rob Young in The Wire.

Many have crowned Pierre Schaeffer as the originator of electronic music. But the world’s first electronic composition is actually “Ta’abir Al-Zaar” made in 1944 by the Egyptian experimenter Halim El-Dabh.

El-Dabh used a wire recorder to capture zaar, a women’s healing ceremony featuring drums, flutes and singing. He returned to the Middle East Radio station and used echo and reverb chambers to manipulate the timbres. He isolated, enhanced and removed certain frequencies.

He then transferred his composition onto a reel-to-reel, edited the composition, and renamed it “Ta’abir Al-Zaar” — The Expression of Zaar. The original piece was not preserved but a 2 minute excerpt appeared on CD under the title ‘Wire Recorder Piece.’

El-Dabh is most known for his experiments in the US during the 1960s at the Columbia-Princeton Electronic Music Center—the oldest center for electronic music research in the United States. He was briefly Igor Stravinsky’s assistant and worked alongside folks like John Cage, Vladimir Ussachevsky and Otto Luening.

2. ‘Tape Music An Historic Concert’

Vladimir Ussachevsky and Otto Luening are among the first American composers to integrate tape music into live performance and recordings in the United States.

In 1952 Luening and Ussachevsky presented the first concert of music for tape in the US, at the Museum of Modern Art in New York City. The result was pressed onto vinyl in 1968 and entitled Tape Music An Historic Concert.

What was so striking about this concert? It showcased the creative capabilities of tape in conjunction with classical instruments — distortions, superimpositions, echoes and timbral transformations fused with an orchestral composition.

The result was an eerie and completely new kind of sound for the time. It marked the beginning of an American chapter in the legacy of tape music already happening in France, Britain and other parts of the world.

The famous conductor Leopold Stokowski — who went to the show — described tape music as:

“Music that is composed directly with sound instead of first being written on paper and later made to sound. Just as the painter paints [their] picture directly with colors, so the musician composes [their] music directly with tone…”

In the late 1950s, Ussachevsky and Luening founded the seminal Columbia-Princeton Electronic Music Center.

Pierre Shaeffer and Musique Concrète

Founded in 1951, the Groupe de Recherches Musciales (GRM) was a studio based out of the Radiodiffusion-Télévision Française (RTF) headquarters in Paris. The GRM is the historic electro-acoustic music group founded by composers Pierre Schaeffer and Pierre Henry, and engineer Jacques Poullin.

Musique concrète was among the first movements to add recorded and electronic sounds into the composer’s toolset.

This studio allowed Pierre Shaeffer to continue developing his theory of musique concrète: a music that used recorded sounds as base material for composing. Shaeffer encouraged acousmatic listening—listening to sounds for their acoustic and rhythmic qualities without knowing or trying to know what causes them. Tape played a fundamental role as a medium for recording and manipulating those experiments.

The techniques developed by Shaeffer for editing sounds laid the foundations for the sampling and computer music approach we all use today, specifically altering the pitch, reversing a recording, cutting, filtering to name a few….

Musique concrète was among the first movements to add recorded and electronic sounds into the composer’s toolset. It was a precursor to electronically generated sound, but the techniques still resonate today in electronic music production.

Pauline Oliveros and the Tape Music Center

Around the same time in late 50s, the Tape Music Center was co-founded in San Francisco by avant-garde composer and accordionist Pauline Oliveros.

Oliveros adopted a different approach to composing:

“While everybody else was cutting and splicing materials, I was finding a way to improvise with the electronics. That improvisation system was using difference tones between oscillators. Setting oscillators above the range of hearing and using the difference tones between the oscillators in a tape delay system caused a lot of beat frequencies with the bias of the tape recorder. That’s how I made my early electronic music.”

Oliveros started pioneering live performance techniques with tape machines. She used large tape recorders with big reels. The supply reel would run through one deck to another, sometimes even a third. All the tape decks would record and feed the recording into the next and back into the first.

She did not use loops, she left the tape running for as much time as it had. In Oliveros’ hands, the tape recorder became a performance instrument, going beyond just a recording device. This set the tone for a long tradition of ‘misusing’ recording equipment and reinventing them.

She compiled her techniques in the 1969 essay: “Tape Delay Techniques for Electronic Music Composition.”

Delia Derbyshire and the BBC Radiophonic Workshop

Delia Derbyshire started working at London’s BBC Radiophonic Workshop in 1962. Derbyshire used the Workshop as a playground for her innovative ideas. She utilized musique concrète techniques that used found sound—like a plucked string as the starting point for a bassline alongside sine tones and white noise carved, filtered and shaped.

Her most famous work is the theme song for the kid’s show Doctor Who, one of the first television themes to be made entirely with electronics.

Every note has to be created as a separate piece of tape. Each piece was then cut together to create the rhythm and the melodies. There was no multi-tracking at that point, so the final mix was done by playing back the various pieces of tape together and hoping it would stay in sync from start to end.

“This century, the technology has caught up with Delia. We can now do digitally what Delia was doing in analog terms. Delia would be having a bore now” asserts Mark Ayres in The Delian Mode documentary.

We Owe It to Tape

The style of music coming out of the BBC Radiophonic workshop, the Tape Music Center, the GRM and others of that period created an aesthetic and technical legacy that inspired generations of upcoming artists. It laid the foundation for how we all create music today.

The well-known German composer Karlheinz Stockhausen commented on the importance of tape:

“This is the most important: for the first time in history we have the possibility to make the sound become fixed for a while and work on it. Traditionally, sound was constantly moving. Once it was produced, it was gone.”

Tape is the the technology that gave us recording, sampling, looping, delay… So the next time tape seems obsolete in the days of digital, don’t forget that its histories loop back into modern music everyday.
