random mildly amusing em lore drop bc i have routines in the night on repeat right now

okay so, i spent 5 days in a psych hospital this spring. while i was in the hospital, i had a roommate. now, as someone in the hospital in part for SEVERE anxiety, and specifically social anxiety, this was not ideal to begin with. however my specific roommate paced our room all. night. long. i'm talking she would go to sleep at 6pm, then wake up at about 10pm (lights out) and just. walk. and she would stop and stare out the window (which was approximately one foot away from my bed). unnecessary detail but they literally had to prescribe me stronger sleeping medications because i kept waking up to her scuffling around my bed.

now, when twenty one pilots released clancy and we listened to the song routines in the night and heard "walk the layout, routines in the night" my husband looked at me and said "that's your roommate from the hospital" and i fucking lost it, with how much the album speaks to my mental health in the past year it was absolutely hysterical to draw that connection. and now every time i hear that absolute bop i think of my roommate. hope ur doing well girl

Look I try not to be too much of a hater but I just can’t get over the amount of people on Tumblr who jumped on the current Nine Inch Nails bandwagon & it’s very obviously their entry into anything heavier than radio pop, indie rock, and some webcore electronica and now their whole internet persona is how edgy and hardcore and punk they are with a blog layout that’s black with red text and a title like I DRAGGED GOD TO HELL AND BURNED HIM while having never listened to anything more experimental than Closer—one of the most critically and commercially successful songs of all time from a household name artist. I see it every single time I make a post on here about alternative music (especially industrial music) and if it gets notes like 50% of the people are tagging it as NIN. It’s very funny. Like I think NIN being an entry point into more experimental alternative music is a time honored tradition and I don’t think it’s a bad thing nor is there any shame in it at all but it’s also very obvious that many of you are stopping there. Which is both a huge shame because you can discover so many cool artists if you do a deep dive into the music that made NIN what it is, but also just kinda makes you sound like a poser to be frank. Like it just feels insane to see some of y’all acting like you’re unhinged esoteric degenerate rivethead gutterpunks for adding the industrial equivalent of what Taylor Swift is to country music to your playlist of bands you discovered from Tumblr that’s still mostly comprised of Hozier and Twenty One Pilots and musical soundtracks to listen to alone in your bedroom.
