Malleus' VA Kato Kazuki comment from the fanbook:

"When creating a character, whether in voice acting, on stage, or on camera, it’s important to understand the role, and to lean into it; to 'become' the character, rather than to 'create' them.

In that sense, it was very difficult to become Malleus.

He has a unique way of doing things, and his values and thought processes are so different from those of the people around him. He is 'a being that transcends people,' but he is not without emotion. I had to face him and portray him properly."

Kalim's VA Furuta Kazuki comment from the fanbook:

"When I first saw Kalim, my reaction was, 'Cool!'―I liked his combination of 'cool' and 'cute.'

But as I read the script, I learned more about his position in life and his backbone, and my image of him had to be redefined: there is more to him than being cheerful and looking cool.

Having been born into a wealthy family and carefully protected his whole life by Jamil and other attendants, he is generous, has no concept of inconvenience and suspects no one of ill-intentions. He welcomes every person he meets with open arms, with no concern for the'wealth' of others―he is always happy to give gifts.

In reality, though, he is in constant danger and has been since he was a small child. He has a poison tester present at his every meal, is well-guarded and actually―I think―lonely.

Maybe that is why he is so quick to throw banquets, and always encouraging people to enjoy themselves? I get the feeling that he always wants to enjoy himself in the moment, because there is always the chance that he might die the next day."

Grim's VA Sugiyama Noriaki comment from the fanbook:

"My impression of Grim was that of a somewhat devilish but beloved, mischievous character with an almost angry atmosphere.

But as I read through the script, I realized that, while that is an acceptable base-feeling for the character, he is also very 'natural;' he is very true to himself. He is not the type that thinks things through and gets into trouble through an unseen factor. He goes wild, exclaiming, 'Wow, this is so much fun!,' without a single bad intention, only to ultimately end up in trouble or startling those around him.

However, it is very difficult to become the role of a 'natural' character. If you are not careful, you can come across as fake."

Twst Channel Halloween Special 2023, notes

・It has begun! The location of the new Halloween looks like it is called “Playful Land,” the Twst equivalent of Pleasure Island?

・Now is the card illustration reveal! (After the commercial. Since Ace, Kalim and Ortho were the only ones in the PV, maybe they are the SSR?)

・Trey is an R card! (These designs are amazing) Jack is also an R card! We get to see just his entire tail!! Jade is an R! His has eels forming a heart at his hip! Floyd’s Okamoto is delighted. Lilia is an R! Yana had so much fun with these designs, they are so great.

・SR Vil! Wearing a toy soldier hat. So interested in the story, what is going on. SR Floyd! Such dynamic poses this time, for the dancing dolls theme, maybe. Also, heart eels on his boots! Leona is SR, his ears from out of his hat, top hat Leona amazing. Cater is SR! He looks so good!

・SSR! Ace! Yamashita is delighted, it is an amazing illustration. SSR Kalim! This is a very new look for Kalim, looks so good. SSR Ortho! So great, this is so interesting, what is going on with everyone aahh

・Now are comments from Yana (read by Kalim’s Furuta) on the new characters’ designs. Theme Park show actor theme! Based on Stromboli’s puppet show and pleasure island, but mostly inspired by the puppet show. Hidden characters in the three SSRs? Event starts on the 20th!

・And now they are going to talk about Twst Fes! Kalim’s VA Furuta is taking off his shirt to show off his muscles again ww he did this at Twst Fes too

Happy birthday to Jamil’s voice actor Futaba Kaname!

In the past year Futaba has been appearing in stage shows such as:

・Ouran Host Club (with twin brother Yuu) ・The Vampire Dies in No Time ・Liebe: Schumann's Beloved (with twin brother Yuu) ・King of the Blue Sky (with twin brother Yuu)

He also appeared in Geats Extra: Kamen Rider PunkJack as Amamiya Hiroki (Kamen Rider Butchi).

Ruggie and Jack's voice actors hosted an episode of "Good Boy!" where they not only introduce Fairy Gala Leona and Stargazer Idia's tsums, but also discuss the visual book that includes pages on Fairy Gala designs (including hairstyles that did not make it into the final game) and the art gallery books!

(Ruggie's VA Ichikawa says that he bought a Fairy Gala clear file at the Twisted wonderland exhibition but he does not use it, he just keeps it at home to look at ^^ They are both very cute)

Happy Birthday to Kato Kazuki, voice of Malleus Draconia!

Kato has been involved in several stage musicals in the past year, such as Phantom of the Opera (as the Phantom), King Arthur (as Meleagant), BACKBEAT (as John Lennon),

Rurouni Kenshin (as Seijuurou Hiko), Barefoot in the Park (as Paul Bratter), Saiyuki (as Sha Gojyo) and more.

He has also been a part of projects such as Kaitou Queen and DesperaDrops and character songs for B-PROJECT. 

Kato hosts a radio show on Nico Nico, and in a recent installment he welcomed Lilia’s VA Midorikawa Hikaru as his guest.

The episode includes a lot of conversation about Twisted Wonderland and Kato is complete fanboy the entire time. It is very cute.

Kato becomes very passionate about how he wasn’t able to perform alongside Midorikawa during Twst Fes (the cast was split into two groups for live script-readings before the broadcast, and they were separated) and he is audibly shocked when Midorikawa says he has no advice to give him, because he is perfect for Malleus.

Did Umehara say who he originally tried out for? Or just that he tried out for someone else?

Hello hello! Thank you for this question!

I have not been able to find an interview where he says who he originally tried out for yet!

It is not uncommon for the seiyuu to mention that they actually tried out for other characters, but whenever the topic comes up they usually temper the question with, "You don't have to say who you auditioned for if you'd rather not," so I think it can be something of a delicate topic in the industry for seiyuu to discuss who they lost roles to.

Epel's VA Tsuchiya also says that he did not audition for Epel!

In the following video he explains that he auditioned for many characters but he'd actually wanted to voice a character in Savanaclaw, because he was named after Simba from The Lion King.

At Anime Japan 2019's Twisted Wonderland stage, we learned that:

・Ace's Yamashita auditioned for both Deuce and Ace

・Deuce's Kobayashi auditioned for both Deuce and Ace

・Trey's Suzuki auditioned for both Trey and Deuce

・Cater's Kobayashi auditioned both for Cater and for another character but he does not specify who, as the game had yet to be released and only the members of Heartslabyul and Malleus had been revealed.

While the video cannot be shared because of ABEMA restrictions, during Twst Channel's first Halloween livestream we learned that Crewel's Ito also auditioned for someone else, and was later offered Crewel, instead!

While I have not yet been able to find Leona's Umehara confirming what character he did audition for I personally suspected it might have been Malleus, but in a special appearance of Malleus' VA Kato on Lilia's Midorikawa's monthly livestream he said that not only did he not audition for Malleus, but Malleus wasn't even an option amongst the characters that were available!

Malleus' Kato also does not share what character(s) he originally auditioned for.

It is interesting that Malleus, Leona, Epel and Crewel were all offered directly to VAs that did not audition for them.

Bonus:

During the first Halloween edition of Twst Channel the seiyuu were asked who, if anyone, was their oshi character outside of the character they themselves voice. Here are the results!

・Jack's VA -> Epel oshi ・Ruggie's VA -> Idia and Sebek oshi ・Sebek's VA -> Malleus oshi ・Silver's VA -> Idia oshi (It is well known that Silver's VA Shimazaki adores Idia, to the point that Ruggie's VA apologizes to him for also having Idia as an oshi character)

Happy Birthday to Aiba Hiroki, voice of Vil Schoenheit!

Aiba has been busy over the past year and mostly on stage, performing in the musicals Double Trouble, Scrooge, Ordinary Days, Da Ponte and Nagasareru Kimi-e: Ashikaga Takauji Taihenki.

He has also been performing in live shows such as MEIJIZA 150th Anniversary Special Concert: The Dream Co-Star, Twst Fes 2023 and Tenipuri Festa 2023 U-17 World Cup, portraying Irie Kanata, whom he also voiced in the 2022 anime and video game for the Nintendo switch.

He is currently performing as Dimitri in the stage musical adaptation of Anastasia, which I was able to see last weekend! He was amazing, the whole show was amazing ♡

Kamiya is a multi-award winning voice actor, inducted into the Seiyuu Awards Hall of Fame after receiving more votes than any other seiyuu for five years in a row.
