I love how in the courtoom scene at the end of Disenchanted, when Jules tries to pin her crime on Serge, Ella has a vague idea of what's happening, Serge knows exactly what's going on...
And then we cut to Dash, who didn't even know Ella HAD fairy godparents until like a week ago, sitting there, going, "I. dont know. whats going on. whos jules? treason who?"

Top 6 Reasons You Should Read the Tyme trilogy by Megan Morrison
Reread a fantasy series I love and appreciate, so now it's time for you guys to love and appreciate it too
It's a fairy tale retelling series. Which is always an endorsement in my mind, but here are some more reasons that's great in this series. The takes on the fairy tales are so cool and refreshing, and well executed-- Cinderella fighting for the working class, the Frog Prince going through a redemption arc where he becomes a better person, and the absolutely shaped storyline that Rapunzel has. And most of them (particularly books one and three) combine multiple fairy tales in such a smooth, natural way.
The world building is INCREDIBLE. The tiny details and the way the different countries are introduced are so cool!! And they really go into smaller details, like the main exports that keep the country going, or the traditions of each country when it comes to dealing with loss. The magic systems are SO COOL, too!!
The characters are all really well done-- they're beautifully developed, both as characters and their relationships with each other. Syrah (main character of book three) has one of the best redemption styles arcs I've ever seen where he goes from unlikeable jerk to a caring, kind individual. Even the villains have well thought out motivations and in depth backstories
The romances in each of the three books are PERFECT because you have a slow burn, a couple that get together in the same book but help each other grow in powerful ways, and a book where the main character doesn't get the girl. The trope breaking! The following of the tropes but in just the perfect way! The level to which I am obsessed with Jack and Rapunzel! It's INSANE
All of the books and their stories are deeply intwined. There are cameos and small details in each book that lead you back to the other three, details that pop out and blow your mind at a reread or even the first time around!
It's really funny and charming and delightful writing. And There are these fascinating implications of other stuff going on in the world you're reading about-- stuff that we'll probably never find out about, since the last book was released in 2019 and there's no sign of another, which is really sad
Anyways, this is a super good series, you won't regret it if you read it! Oh my stars and I didn't even mention SERGE MY BELOVED FAVORITE CHARACTER FOR SURE THE FAIRY GODFATHER LEGEND HIMSELF listen just. read this series. Good talk

I just finished reading Disenchanted on your recommendation and I loved it!! Do you think you'll ever do an aesthetic for serge and jasper?
Oh my gosh! I’m so glad you liked it! I’m telling you, the Tyme books are so underrated. I hadn’t thought of doing an aesthetic for Serge and Jasper! They don’t have a lot of possessions and things to work with. But I do love them so I’ll have to think about it. I don’t know who I would cast as Jasper! Any ideas?

The Great Bookshelf Caper: Disenchanted by Megan Morrison
Title: Disenchanted: The Trials of Cinderella
Author: Megan Morrison
Status: New read
How did I acquire it?
One of the gift books from my boss.
How long have I owned it without reading it?
About a month.
Thoughts?
I have fallen in love with Megan Morrison. Not only am I convinced that she is a better version of myself (she got her start writing Harry Potter fanfiction, she's currently teaching drama to middle schoolers, she went to school for theatre, and she writes about fairy tales -- we are the same person), but she has created a fairy tale world I never want to leave.
I'm not going to give this fairy tale adaptation the Fairy Tale Project treatment like I did with Grounded, mostly because this is not a traditional retelling of Cinderella, and actually barely follows the story we all know. Cinderella loses a slipper and flees from the prince within the first 19 pages, and the ball is over and done with before we even hit the halfway point. And I don't care. See, this Cinderella has much bigger things to worry about than winning the prince's heart at some ball. She has to find a way to fix unfair labor standards that threaten the working class of her kingdom. She has to stand up for those who can't and be a voice for those who are being silenced. And if she thinks about the prince at all, it's because she hopes she can show him the things that are wrong and convince him to do something about it. This Cinderella is a revolutionary -- and I love it.
I love every character in this story. I love the good guys -- Ella, who is fiery and passionate and reckless and stubbornly uncharming. Prince Dash, who wants to be a better person and fights against his privilege. Serge, who is losing his magic because nothing about being a fairy godfather is real anymore, and Jasper, who rekindles the flame of hope inside Serge (and other things, I'm hoping, as the series progresses (I SHIP IT, IF THAT WASN'T CLEAR)). I love the middle guys -- Sharlyn, Ella's stepmother, who's not wicked, she's just business-savvy and pragmatic in a way that crimps Ella's idealism. Clover and Linden, the "wicked" stepsiblings, who are a bit vain and abrasive, but never truly evil. Lavaliere, who's the snotty brat on the surface but with a heart of . . . like, tarnished silver underneath. I even love the bad guys -- Lady Lavier, Bejeweled the corrupt head fairy godmother, King Clement. Everyone is just so wonderful, I love them all.
But most of all, I love how REAL this world that Morrison has created feels. It never falls into "fairy tale world" vagueness, and I can't stress enough how refreshing that is. This book starts out as Cinderella and then becomes a fairy tale version of the Triangle Shirtwaist Factory Fire, and there's something bold about that, make no mistake. This book has gumption, and it says something, and I want so many more books from this world. I am thrilled that the internet tells me I will eventually have six. I only wish that number was higher.
Status after reading:
This one stays, until it comes out in paperback, which I will then buy so that my copies match. Or, let's be real, I'll probably buy Grounded in hardback because I'm not going to wait to buy the rest of these until they're in paperback, so...
Numbers:
In the project: 418
Tackled so far: 10
Still unread: 91
Giving away: 4

Serge: *Mixing in a large pot in front of the slipper's apprentices*♪ You put the Peeps in the chili pot ♪ ♪ And eat them both up ♪ ♪ You put the Peeps in the chili pot ♪ ♪ And add the M&Ms ♪ ♪ You put the Peeps in the chili pot ♪ ♪ And it makes it taste bad ♪
Serge: *clears throat* I'm gonna eat all this chili... and/or die trying. Anyone want any? I'm just gonna put it right down here. Come on. Dip your paws in my chili. Scoop your little mittens right in the stew.
Apprentice: uh, Serge, I can see that you're going through something with your dust and all, but exams are next week, so can you teach us anything?
Serge: All right, nerd. You want to learn something? I'll teach you something. I'm gonna teach you the meaning of life. How do you like them apples? Now, over the last few year, Yellow philosophers have formed three main theories on how to live an ethical life. Now, first off, there's virtue ethics. Aristotle believed that there were certain virtues of mind and character, like courage or generosity, and you should try to develop yourself in accordance with those virtues.
Serge: Next, there's consequentialism. The basis for judgment about whether something is right or wrong stems from the consequences of that action. How much utility, or good, did it accomplish versus how much pain, or bad. And finally, there's deontology, the school of thought that there are strict rules and duties that everyone must adhere to in a functioning society. Being ethical is simply identifying and obeying those duties and following those rules. But here's the thing, my little chili babies, all three of those theories are bull. The true meaning of life, the actual ethical system that you should all follow is nihilism. The world is empty. There is no point to anything, and you're just gonna die. So do whatever. And now I'm gonna eat my marshmallow-candy chili in silence, and you all can all go make petticoats for the rich assholes that inhabit this city.
Apprentice: Is that gonna be on the test?
Serge: Yes. And, no. And you all get As or Fs. And there is no test. And you all failed it, and you all got As. Who cares? Good-bye. - *apprentice's murmuring*- Good-byyyyye.
