For the Type Specimen Book I chose to present Gotham. I find it to be one of the most beautifully created, multifunctional, and yet still entirely universal and simple typefaces I have yet to encounter. That is precisely what I attempted to convey in creating the book along with an overall flow and continuity.

This was our type specimen book from Type 1. We chose a typeface from a given list and then were supposed to display all the ways that typeface could be used, so that included glyphs, ligatures, different sizes and weights, and creative uses of the type itself. The format was fairly simple — printed on a color laser printer with a saddle stitch binding. I chose Didot for mine (still my favorite typeface) and I really love how it turned out.

This was our very first project in Type I. We had to creat a typeface using the parameters of pixels. I thought it would be easier than it was, but I actually had a hard time coming up with something creative. Overall, I am pleased with my design but it could have been more exciting.

Type Specimen Book
This project has been one of my favorites thus far. This was the first book I ever created and it came with an extremely steep learning curve.
I created a type specimen book exemplifying the typeface Mrs Eaves designed by Zuzana Licko. This typeface is feminine and beautiful re-imagining of an earlier typeface. It is through this delicate modernizing I found my inspiration for the style of the book. I wanted to show off the gorgeous glyphs that come with Mrs Eaves, but I chose to do so in a modern way. The color palette is inspired by 3D glasses, hence the bright cerulean, rich red, and the employment of opacity throughout.
A challenge I found was the instruction to label every style and size of text I used throughout. It became cluttered, so I found that having solid columns of these notations near the spine gave them purpose and place.

I recreated this project after losing the file off a broken maxdrive. I tried to stay true to my original design from memory. I knew i wanted to keep the "chunkiness" qualities of my typeface. I liked this project because i got to decided how i wanted to use negative space.

This project is a type specimen book I created for the Bodoni Std typeface. This was my first time working with InDesign. I really enjoyed making this project although I struggle while learning how to work with this new program.

This project dealt with contemporary design. My design was inspired by contemporary architecture. Dealing with hard shapes such as the square gave my a great grid pattern. I used Eurostile and Copperplate Gothic as a pair.

Type Specimen Book
Gonzalez Monica
For this project I created a type specimen book for a typeface called Gill Sans Std. I had to make an extensive amount of drafts before getting to my final book. I printed to book and used saddle stitch. It was my first time using InDesign and I enjoyed it a lot.
