Sharing some art I dig. I love this little hedgehog. He makes me smile, partially because of a cultural difference I learned recently. In Canada (where I live), people will have a hedgehog as a pet. When I was in New Zealand just a few weeks ago on my book tour for Expecting Sunshine, I was startled when friends I visited told me not to touch the wild hedgehogs in their backyard. Literally, these cute little creatures were just waking around, eating flowers. I was so confused, torn between the cuteness and my friend’s warning. “They are disease-ridden rodents,” she told me, with the same disgust I would have if speaking about a rat. She couldn’t believe that Canadians would welcome hedgehogs 🦔 into our homes as pets. I guess, in light of this new information, I’ll appreciate hedgehogs from afar. What do you think?
