SC dismisses plea challenging cancellation of UGC-NET

The Supreme Court on Monday refused to entertain a petition challenging the cancellation of the UGC-NET 2024 (University Grants Commission-National Eligibility Test) examination on the basis of alleged paper leaks.

“Nearly two months have elapsed since the examination was cancelled and the fresh examination is now to be held in the course of the next few days. In this view of the matter, entertaining the present petition under Article 32 of the Constitution at present stage would only add uncertainty and result in utter chaos,” said a bench headed by CJI DY Chandrachud.

UGC NET Exam Eligibility Criteria 2024:Check Age

The basic UGC NET Exam Eligibility for the applicants is to have a Master’s degree in the relevant subject from a recognised university. The upper age limit for JRF is 30 years. The applicant must have at least 55% marks in their Master’s Degree.

Candidates should have a Master’s degree or its equivalent with at least 55% marks (50% for reserved categories) from recognized universities or institutions.

Nearly 10 lakh students are awaiting for the results of the Common University Entrance Test Undergraduate (CUET UG) 2024. The National Testing Agency had initially scheduled June 30 as the result announcement date for the exam, however, the results were delayed following the fiasco and irregularities in the NEET UG and UGC-NET.
