If you could only pick one favorite Queen song for every album, what would they be and why?
Oooh! This is a wonderful question! I think I may actually be able to do this, too, because I'm in the process of trying to rate my favorite albums by deciding my favorite songs! Okay, let me give it a shot! (I'm only going to do the studio albums, and I'm gonna skip Flash Gordon, cuz I've actually only listened to the one song on it lol)
Queen I-(Sooo difficult to choose) Probably Keep Yourself Alive? I actually find the lyrics inspirational, even though I think Brian meant them to be a bit sarcastic or satirical. And Roger's drum solo? Holy shit. Actually? All of it. Deaky's bass and the way it matches up to Roger's drumming. Bri's fucking guitar intro and the solo. Freddie's VOICE. Love it.
Queen II- White Queen (As It Began) because it gives me FEELINGS. I love to just put my headphones in, crank the song up, and just float away. As much as I favour the heavier rock songs, Brian's slow songs like this also tend to come out as top faves.
Sheer Heart Attack- Ummmm... Brighton Rock I think. Because I actually dig the long ass guitar solo and because the Rock of Ages harmony sends me to another fucking dimension it's so good.
A Night at the Opera- '39, hands down (though Prophet's Song is a close second). Nerdy space shit, great guitar, Roger's angelic screaming in the background, and BRIAN'S. GODDAMN. VOICE.
A Day at the Races- Long Away is actually my favorite Queen song overall. I fucking love the lyrics. I love the spacey, soft feel of it. I would actually consider getting the words "I'm just staring at the moon all day" tattooed on my body because I just love the concept so much. Even my Queen Playlist is called "I'm Long Away". It's just... like Brian is singing to me and me alone when I listen to that song. It's so special to me.
News of the World- My Melancholy Blues. I have melancholy. I have blues. It's good to know Freddie knows how I feel. Also, I just love singing this while pretending to be Freddie pretending to be a sultry cabaret singer in a smokey bar in the 1920s. Cuz he definitely did that.
Jazz- Before I really got into Queen, Don't Stop Me Now was my favorite Queen song. It's still my favorite on the album, I think, and it still holds a special place in my heart. It's so fun to sing, it's what I always listen to when I need to get pumped.
The Game- Dragon Attack... holy shit... this song kills me. Despite the fact that they have several sexy songs, I think this is the sexiest Queen song. Deaky goes hard on his bass solo and it makes me FEEL THINGS. It's also just a good song overall, good instrumentals and vocals. Love it.
Hot Space- Action This Day. Because the lyrics are so fucking inspirational and Roger Taylor gives me hope for the world. "You gotta learn to love to live" should be my fucking motto for when I'm having bad days. It's another bop, fun to listen to, even if you aren't paying close attention to the lyrics.
The Works- Keep Passing the Open Windows. I'm suddenly noticing a trend with my favorite songs. Dang, I am a depressed boi lol. But anyway, this is another song that's great to listen to when I'm feeling my melancholy blues. It's inspirational, but also just a beautiful little song. Simple, but gets the job done, I think.
A Kind of Magic- One Vision. Partially because of the fried chicken part. Mostly because it's another song with a beautiful message that's so great to listen to. Also, the extended video with the bts footage with the boys all just so happy and having fun making the song together. Too precious for this world.
The Miracle- The Invisible Man. Everyone talks about not being able to resist clapping when Radio Ga Ga comes on, but that's how I am with the little slppy noises at the beginning of the song. It actually used to freak me out a little, but I LOVE the way they all get their little bit in the song, all their names announced because they are all equally important. Good fucking shit.
Innuendo- (one of my least faves, kinda sad it's hard to pick a favorite on it) I would say The Hitman, maybe? It's reminiscent of their early days. It reminds me a lot of Stone Cold Crazy with the metal feel to the music.
Made In Heaven- Let Me Live is an amazing song that i can't listen to a lot because it makes me SAD (hehehe, this whole damn album, really). I love the song, I love that they all take turns with the vocals. The lyrics hit me hard. (Mother Love is another one like that, it always makes me emotional)
Sorry this got long! Thank you so much!
