I don't have any new mermaids, but here's some old ones I drew for MerMay (and some I never finished ^.^;)

I debated about posting this but...

I couldn't help myself after seeing it going around. 👁👁 I've had this particular art piece stored away for over a year now (Early 2023) and I thought I'd finally share it because of MerMay, yippee.

It's a bit outdated, but from time to time I work on this AU I've had lingering around. I enjoy drawing them quite a bit.

Here are 2 updated doodles. (As of 2024, so far.)

I can't give you much lore about them yet as I like to keep things silly and mysterious, but I thought I'd show em off for fun :3

This is my entry for the week 2: rusalka/русалка prompt by bulgarianfolktales over on insta

In slavic folklore the rusalki are the undead spirits of young women who either committed suicide by drowning or were violently drowned by someone and must haunt the water.

The rusalki are not inherently violent spirits and are allowed to die in peace if their death is avenged but their main purpose is to lure men into the water to drown them.

Unlike mermaids, the rusalki don't have a fishtail and instead have normal legs and can walk on ground.

1. Visitation

Synopsis: Bill Cipher has been sentenced to imprisonment for 10,000 years following his attempted crimes in bringing about Weirdmageddon. But even imprisoned dream demons are allowed the right to request visitation once per calendar year. The visitor he’s requesting? None other than Mabel Pines. Unfortunately for Mabel, she finds it somewhat disconcerting that his first conversation to her upon arrival involves a confession of love. Notes: Slight canon-divergence where Bill’s attempt to start Weirdmageddon was halted by the Time Police and he was jailed. Lots of weird non-linear time shenanigans take place.

2. The Fair Folk

Synopsis: There were many warnings regarding the fair folk. Never tell them your name. Never take the food they offer. Never make a deal. And certainly never develop feelings for one of their kind. Unfortunately Mabel Pines was never good at following rules. Notes: Fairy!Bill and human Mabel. Fairies or demons - who are more dangerous, I wonder?

3. Underworld

Synopsis: She was a God of Creation; he a God of Destruction. She brought life; he brought death. By all encounters, they should have had nothing to do with each other. Funny how fate works out.   Notes: Hades/Persephone inspired tale. Bill stop, kidnapping girls to the Underworld isn’t how you score a date.

4. Scales and Sails

Synopsis: It was said in legends that tasting the flesh of a mermaid would make you immortal. And through a series of events when he was young Bill Cipher found himself bestowed with this gift. Unfortunately, as the years have passed, his immortality has corrupted him into a twisted person beyond comprehension whose power-hungry fleet are risking destruction of the entire world. Now, the very mermaid who gave him his gift decades ago must right her wrong and kill him. Notes: Mermaid/Pirate AU. Angst everywhere.

5. At Your Service

Synopsis: Drunk and lonely, Mabel Pines rings up an escort agency and is delivered none other than Bill Cipher. Some people liked to use the service for sexual means. Instead, Mabel cries on his shirt, spills embarrassing secrets and pukes on his shoes (and okay, maybe he saw her naked for like five seconds!) Fast forward a month later and now she finds herself as his next door neighbor? How are you meant to look a guy in the eye when you almost paid to sleep with him a month prior. Notes: Not porn - even if it does revolve around Bill being an escort.

6. Now You See Me

Synopsis: The Pines family can see the dead. Rather than a gift, it’s seen as more of an inconvenience by the latest generation. When moving into her new college dorm, Mabel finds herself stuck with an undead roommate who just won’t leave. How is she meant to have a normal college experience when she has a hot dead guy watching her sleep?

7. Let Me Ruin You

Synopsis: Summoning a demon was only the first in a long line of chaotic events of his life. When Bill Cipher called Shooting Star into his bidding, he knew bloodshed and chaos would follow. He just never expected the destruction to turn on him as well. Notes: Sort of inspired by [this fanart.] Bill is a human, Mabel/Dipper are demons. Rather dark. Pines twins have more of a Reverse!Falls personality. Bill is Mabel’s latest plaything.
