sometimes people be asking questions that really do require a lot of emotional effort and intellectual work and they want that labor done for them in a summarized, condense presentation that's written in layman's terms, and i don't think they realize thats what theyre asking for in order to effectively answer the question on a topic they want clarification on.
not to say that asking questions is wrong or asking deep questions are wrong but damn i wish people would do their own initial research or really think about what theyre asking from a complete stranger.
really out here asking for answers to topics that have required reading (from lived experience and/or actual academic research) that's beyond the 101 level but want it broken down to a 101 level for free

once again brought to my knees by overambition. heres a project I could have done in a weekend if I kept to the bounds and expectations of the class. instead of a simple essay on a topic of art history wrt the classical world though we're gonna try our very best to fit "Athenian Athena as a prototype for the national personification, a figure containing myriads whose diverse imagery and bodies of worship being distilled into an Athenian-then-Hellenistic-then-Roman ideal ironically reflects the bloody and assimilationist process of nation building embodied by subsequent figures that took inspiration from her such as Roma and Britannia" into a 12 minute essay

So I have a second interview with a local college that provides 100% tuition reimbursement on 2 classes a semester after your first six months and at first I was like, well, I could finally get my masters and it would be free! And I’d be more employable! And probably make more money in the long run! Then I considered a second bachelor’s in psychology. I almost got my degree in that anyway. It could be a gateway into a career doing research on complex PTSD in cult survivors. It would take only three years!
But now I’m realizing that was all foolish. That was small brain. Why would I go to school to get another degree, when I can continue taking classes for the degree I already have and love and IT’S LITERALLY FREE. There is absolutely no one on earth who could stop me from taking every undergraduate English literature course that school offers from now until the end of time.
Let’s hope I get offered this job. I want to be the insufferable English major again.

Apparently the local university’s undergraduate entomology course sends students to catch insect specimens at the same place I like to go birdwatching, which explains why I saw three enormous frat looking dudes with tiny bug nets and overheard one emphatically say “bro BRO I told you we already have enough lepidopterans”

With the hbomberguy plagiarism video on fire right now I want to share my favorite example of egregious plagiarism.
I’m a marine biologist. Currently getting my PhD. I’ve done a lot of scholarly writing. Many classes I took as an undergraduate had big writing components. I took limnology at one point as an elective. This course had one such big writing assignment.
The professor told us a story. He said he once got a student paper that absolutely blew him away. It was way beyond what he’d expected from the class. This was before we had online tools to check for plagiarism. The paper impressed him so much that he brought it home to show it to his wife. She began reading it and then set it down, looked at him, and said, “Dan, you wrote this.”
This student was dumb enough to not only copy a published paper verbatim, but to copy a paper published by the professor of the class.
AND HE NEARLY GOT AWAY WITH IT.
