A short introductory chapter!

- Why do we choose this life and the next separately? When they are born from each other! Vlad's lover whispered into Rosella's ear.

- Don't tell me that! That was the marriage vow with Mirena. - the blonde woman pulled away from the man.

Rosella looked out the window, looking at the starry sky. His thoughts were far away.

- What's wrong my dear? Vlad asked, stepping behind her.

- A lot of things! - the woman began - You know, when I came here after my brother Dimitru, I didn't think that I would become a woman breaking marriage. People guess what's going on between us, Vlad. They look at me askance, whisper when I walk past them.

- Do not mind them. - the man turned Rosella in the face.

- We have to finish this! - said the woman - We shouldn't even have started Vlad. You were happy with your wife...

-Don't tell me that,- he interrupted. He took the girl's ace in his hands, look into Rosella's brown eyes with pleading eyes. - Yes, I love Mirena. But I love you too, Rosella. I feel like I'm living with you, with you I'm not just the prince of Transylvania, but an ordinary person without obligations.

- You are married Vlad! - she stepped away from the man again. - I can't be your lover anymore.

- Do not you love me anymore?

- No! Rosella closes her eyes. That one word affected Rosella like poison. His throat tightens, he feels like there are a thousand lumps in his throat, which prevents him from breathing. Her heart aches as if a knife has been stabbed into it.

Vlad took a step towards her, but she held up her hand, making Vlad stop walking. You didn't believe what Rosella said, just an hour ago you were holding her in your arms and making love to her. Why did you let him shower every bit of you with loving kisses? Why let him touch her where no other man would? Maybe it was just a game for the woman? Maybe he just wanted to make her fall in love with him? No! Rosella is not like that! He feels, he knows that He loves the girl as much as Vlad. But he also knows that he cannot give Rosella what her heart desires. You can't marry him! You can't give him a family.

- Now go away please! - she whispered. Vlad said nothing, he felt his heart ache. But he didn't say or do anything. He took a deep breath and left Rosella's room.

It's been a week since Rosella broke up with Vlad. A week had passed since Vlad had left his room without a word. Rosella had not seen him for a week, an agonizing week. Just as Rosella wasn't looking for him, neither was Vlad. The blonde girl hoped deep in her heart that he would look for her, that he would not give up so easily what was between the two of them. Rosella had already guessed that Vlad didn't really like her. If he wanted, he would seek and fight for them. Yes, she was the one who ended their relationship, just because of Vlad. Sometimes during the day she could see the guilt in his eyes, that he was fighting an internal battle with himself. He knew Vlad would never end their relationship, so He did it. Rosella knew that it was difficult for the man, he loves two women, one is his wife Mirena, the other is his lover.

You know what? I'm just going to say it.

The song 'Esmerelda' from 'The hunchback of notre dame' is the best act one finale that I've ever heard. Yes, I can elaborate.

Firstly, the main theme itself develops so much, going from a simple march to a cry for mercy at the end.

Secondly, it not only reprises earlier songs, but uses them to continue the story as the finale is undolding. There's Hellfire, being used as Frollo's call to arms to the people of paris, and there's God help the outcasts, being used as Phoebus's rebellion against Frollo, just to name a couple of examples.

Thirdly, the song doesn't just use the chorus to accentuate what the soloists are saying, but rather adds even more to the song. In the end, the chorus is literally crying out "misericordia" and "dona nobis pacem," which translate to "mercy" and "grant us peace". So, the chorus is literally begging for peace at the end of the song, which add so much more.

Finally, the ending: specifically, the shock value that the final key change adds. It's not a normal key change, it's the exact opposite. Usually, a key change in this place will take us from minor to major, but the music is already in major. So, what can they do? Switch the key to minor. So the music switches from major to minor, an almost unheard-of key change at the end of an act. But, even after that, the music subverts your expectations. On the last chord, your brain fully expects a D minor chord, but instead the music switches at the last second to a giant B-flat major chord. (Fun fact, in the original german production, this ending was in e-flat minor, but ended with a picardy third on top of all this to add even more shock to the ending.) But, all this is missing the most important part: the music of this final section is to the tune of bells of notre dame, one of the first things we heard in the musical. We've come so far, but we're back to where we began, with the same tune and key that the musical started with.

So, yeah. I firmly believe that this is one of the best act one finales in all of musical theater, if not the best.

Hi 👋

First I want to say that I know this isn’t the purpose of your blog, so if you don’t want to answer (or if you don’t remember enough about the show to to answer, or just haven’t gotten to that part yet), that’s 100% fine!

So, I’ve been meaning to watch Nine Perfect Strangers, but I have a pretty debilitating fear of spi*ders and thanks to the wonderful Does The Dog Die I know that the show features some scenes that might trigger me. I wanted to ask you if you remember the context in which they appear and if it’s quick scene I can skip (or maybe they appear on multiple scenes, in which case I’ll be skipping the show altogether).

I didn’t want to ask some rando on reddit because this is the internet and you never know when someone is going to mock your traumas and deliberately spam you with pictures of the thing that triggers you, yikes. But you seem like a nice person so I thought there’d be no harm in asking!

Okay so to be honest, I couldn't remember any major scene involving sp*ders but I still felt like there was a brief image thrown somewhere so I briefly skimmed over the episodes to check and there is indeed a few seconds where we can see the shadow of a sp*der (? it looks like a shadow?) on a leaf in episode 3, around the 25th minute. It's very short and not shot in a way meant to scare people (tho, I totally get when you have the phobia it's... YIKES to see it) but in that context, it's really not scary. The shot lowkey looks like you know, those aesthetic gifs we can see around here, if that makes sense? 😅 So I guess you can definitely skip that scene and it won't be a problem for you to watch the show comfortably.

I don't think I have missed any other scene, it's really the only one I could think of. The finale hasn't aired yet tho, so keep in mind there is still a possibility to have another scene of that kind in it that I couldn't know, but with the way the story is undolding, I don't see it happening. And none of the characters is arachnophobic (as far as I know) if that matters.

Spatial Communication - Artist Research - Slinkachu.

The street artist known only as Slinkachu has been abandoning little people on the streets of London since 2006.  His first project, ‘Little People in the City’, saw minature men, women and children living their lives on the streets of London and was immortalised in the 2008 book entitled Little People in the City”. Since then, Slinkachu has done a number of other projects, notably ‘Whatever Happened to the Men of Tomorrow’ which documented the decline of a tiny, middleaged and balding super-hero on the streets of London and ‘Inner City Snail – a slow moving street art project’ which saw Slinkachu ‘customising’ a number of London snails which then presumably went about their business none the wiser.  So, next time you are out and about in London, look down, for you might be missing out on the drama undolding below.
