i love this prompt so much, anon, and i've been rotating it in my mind on a salad spinner during this migraine, so let's give this a whirl:

1. cassian is a vampire who's been around for centuries — and by this point, everyone he ever once loved has long since died. he's isolated, detached, and though he doesn't think about it in his (endless) day to day, lonely. he hates himself for what he is and how he has no choice but to live (since vampires only have a few specific ways they can actually die).

2. jyn is a werewolf who's long been separated from a pack. no, that's not the right word — she's been abandoned by a pack. and that's not how werewolves are supposed to live and operate, but fuck that, she's on her own, because she's not going to go through what happens when she forms those pack bonds and inevitably loses them again.

3. of course, when the presences of these two enter each other's orbits, they know what the other is immediately — vampires and werewolves have been mortal enemies for thousands of years, after all. they know, and they don't trust. but they have to join forces, because there's an innocent person being attacked in an alley by a whole group of people, and it takes both of their efforts to save them.

4. and isn't it a remarkable thing, actually teaming up with someone else? cassian hasn't experienced this in literal centuries, jyn hasn't in metaphorical ones, and they're both so incredibly shaken by that, by connection, that they draw closer together rather than further apart. they SHOULD destroy each other, but the connection grows instead, and over time, so do the feelings.

5. it'll end one day; it'll have to, one way or another. but cassian now remembers what it feels like to actually be warm, and jyn remembers what it's like to have someone at her side. hell of a thing to love someone who's so uniquely suited to destroying you.

that's tough considering i try to end all of them happily. i'll probably say Symptom of Time, though, because at the end soulmarks and the magic behind them returns to the world. it's kind of ironic, too, considering that is probably one of my angstier fics.

not since i wrote for Thrones, which is to be expected. but even then, i never got much.

9. Do you write smut. If so, what kind?

yes and it only ever seems to be intense and emotionally charged. it's all pretty vanilla, comparatively, i feel like. lots of oral sex is always involved and safe sex and hearty consent are my kinks, so.

10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?

do crossovers include like... fandom crossovers or like... aus? because if it's a fandom crossover, then no. but i've written a pacific rim AU for jon/dany (GoT).

not to my knowledge.

non but i would literally die. i've had a few of my fics turned into podfics though and that was fucking surreal. (thanks @adecila).

you know, recency bias and all that... but rebelcaptain seriously has me body and soul. i am pretty certain that i will never be over them. they just have everything-- two lonely, touch-starved, traumatized loners who finally feel some modicum of safety among each other (even if it was only for the briefest of moments)? two warrior babes with competency kinks? doomed by the narrative? one of them with a fucking abandonment complex and the other the one who always comes back? THE ANGST THE YEARNING THE UNHINGED-- okay i'll stop sorry. SO UPSET i never got in on the ground floor with these morons with Rogue One came out. (although, tbf, i was deep into the max/furiosa feels when RO came out and they're second place for my favorite ship.)

imagery/setting descriptions. worldbuilding to a certain degree. i like writing dialogue but how good i am at it is another manner all together.

okay good choices ofc BTW I'm saving the most unhinged for last

willow - cassian's ship rolled into jyn's rough waters, and he cut through her surface like a knife. wherever she strays he follows, and they both certainly wrecked each other's plans. his train could take her home. I mean there's even a bait and switch that's a work of art (his betrayal on eadu; him believing her and raising an army for scarif). they even hold hands at the end in the rogue one cinematic universe tradition of hand-holding being how lovers communicate their love. willow is of course their song.

don't blame me - lol this is all cassian's feelings in the novelization tbh. like neither pity nor pragmatism could explain why she dominated his thoughts, and tbh I love the line I once was poison ivy but now I'm your daisy to describe how he's hurt so many (intentionally and unintentionally) and how with jyn he finally can do the best things he's ever done and be at peace (by standing up to go to scarif but also on a personal level, by being able to come back to someone he cares for and who needs him).

cardigan - this song always, always gives me jyn erso vibes. everyone assumes the worst of her (except cassian - mostly - and rogue one), assumes she knows nothing, has no politics. I'm sure she has felt like an old cardigan under someone's bed many times - always put second to the cause by her guardians. she assumes cassian will be like everyone else - leaving like a father (when she thinks he is killed by krennic like nearly everyone else she's loved) and running like water (ugh also cassian is a water sign, so much water symbolism with him) and he drew stars around her scars (started to help her heal from her traumas by showing up for her and earning her trust on jedha) so the betrayal on eadu has her bleeding. and she curses him for maybe not the longest time buttt

and then cassian tries to change the ending, saves her from feeling like that thrown away old cardigan under the rebellion's bed by standing in front of her and keeps coming back to her over and over again

and tbh lol they both haunt all MY what ifs.

cruel summer - this song is very much giving me like post-scarif yavin days clandestine hook ups where they both know they're just so for each other but it's like what are they even doing ~in these trying times? is it just the residual closeness of the mission, a la what doesn't kill me makes me want you more? they probably fall into bed amongst the celebrations after the battle of yavin, and they want to keep it to themselves but like are definitely not doing a good job of it

and ofc they're both not like great at this stuff in general so they're both waiting for the other to ~~~~cut to the bone, and I'm sure they both have their drunk crying moments, I DONT WANT TO KEEP SECRETS JUST TO KEEP YOU, I assume bodhi and bix and leia and melshi and kay and baze and tonc and sefla and brasso and han and vel are all V E R Y tired of the nonsense (chirrut has endless patience for them, cinta is too focused to be bothered)

and you know one of them finally screams it and the other looks up grinning like a devil and it's all good

of course that's the everybody lives au version. the film canon connections are still there, like they don't have the chance to try it because of these trying times, they're waiting for the other to cut to the bone until of course they realize they trust each other (especially jyn, which is part of why she reacts so strongly to cassian's betrayal on eadu), it is a cruel summer because they die on a fucking tropical beach watching the sunset

More roommate au, follow-up to this and this, I guess :-)

“Would you stop fiddling with that!” Leia hissed at Jyn, who was trying to smooth down the flouncy ruffles on her dress.

“I don’t know why you made me wear this thing anyway! I hate ruffles!” Jyn hissed back.

“It’s better than any of the potato sacks you pass off as dresses in your closet!”

“I happen to like potato sacks, okay!”

“Well that’s not gonna fly here!”

Leia’s mother turned to shush them both, and Jyn slumped in her seat. Leia had dragged her along to one of her parents’ posh charity dinners, mostly because she was fighting with Han and she didn’t want to be stuck with him the whole night. The catch had been that the tickets were only being sold to couples, and Breha insisted that Jyn bring a date.

“What about that dark haired man I saw you with? Is he your boyfriend? You should bring him.” Even though they had come out as questions, everyone knew with Leia’s mother it was purely a formality. The answer to her ‘questions’ was always “Yes ma’am.” Jyn had no choice but to ask Cassian.

She’d waited till the last minute, mostly because she was pretty sure he’d say no, and she felt weird asking her roommate to come to such a fancy event when they had only known each other for a few months. She finally asked, casually, over take-out, after Leia had sent a barrage of threatening texts.

“So hey, this is weird, but Leia invited me to some charity dinner, and I’m kinda supposed to bring a date.” She let the statement hang in the air, hoping he would catch the hint. Out of the corner of her eye she saw him nod, as he reached for the last spring roll with his chopsticks.

“Sounds cool.”

“Not cool,” Jyn sighed. “So?”

Cassian finally turned to her, and she could see the gears in his head whirring. Please say yes please say yes.

She could tell he didn’t want to insult both their intelligences by saying Are you asking me to be your date? but she could sure as hell see that he wanted to. Finally he just nodded, a small hint of a smile playing on his lips.

“Sure. Sounds like fun.”

She’d put on the ridiculous dress that Leia had lent her, and as she was fighting with the strap on her heels, Cassian had come into the room in his fancy tux. Jyn’s stomach had churned, and her throat had gone dry at the sight of him. To his credit, his jaw had unhinged as Jyn stood from the side of the bed, the hem of her dress swishing to her knees.

“Um,” he’d cleared his throat, “Bow tie. Help?”

They were both helpless at it, and ended up having to find a Youtube tutorial, except they both fought for dominance over who had gotten it, and in the end Leia’s father had to fix it when they arrived at the dinner (twenty minutes late because they were still fighting in the Uber over the best way of getting uptown).

The night was winding down though, and Bail and Breha were flitting around the tables, saying their goodbyes. Leia and Han had disappeared somewhere, no doubt making up, and Jyn rolled her eyes and cursed under her breath. She saw Leia’s parents heading towards their table, so she suddenly grabbed Cassian’s hand. He jolted at her touch, almost tipping over the glass of wine he was reaching for.

“The time to leave is now,” she hissed. Her cheeks were tired from smiling all night and she’d successfully avoided any attention on her pretend relationship, they just needed to make their escape…

“Jyn!” Breha’s voice stopped her in her tracks, as she was getting up from her chair, Cassian’s hand still in her firm grip. “Come and give me a hug before you leave,” she admonished, and Jyn had no choice but to turn back.

“Thank you both so much for coming,” Bail nodded to Cassian, and smiled warmly at Jyn.

“Thank you for having us, sir. We had a wonderful time.” Jyn turned to Cassian, surprised and impressed at the formality and sincerity in his voice.

“Well he sure is a handsome young man,” Breha cooed appraisingly, and Jyn fought the urge to roll her eyes. What she couldn’t fight though, was the blush that colored her cheeks. “You take care of our Jyn, she’s a special one.” Breha shooed Jyn towards Cassian.

“I will, ma’am.” Cassian wrapped an arm around Jyn, smiled down at her. Jyn’s heart did a flip in her chest. “And yes, she’s very special.” He leaned down and pressed a soft kiss to Jyn’s brow.

Breha nodded, seemingly satisfied with Cassian’s display, and hurried her husband off to continue their goodbyes. When they were out of earshot, Jyn turned to Cassian, her face burning.

“What was that for?” she whispered, and her mind was a jumble of emotions. Was she angry? Did she like it? Should she like it? Did they take this too far? Were they still ‘just roommates’?

Cassian was still smiling at her, and under his breath he whispered, “They’re still watching.”

Sure enough, Jyn looked over to see Breha watching her like a hawk. She thought about coming clean, but the thought of Breha’s disappointment (Breha, who’d been like a mother to her after her own mother had died) and Leia’s ire held her back. Cassian seemed up for it, so she figured what the hell, let’s continue with this charade. She reached up, thankful for her heels so that she was closer, and pressed her lips to his. She had only meant for it to be a chaste peck, just a brief meeting of lips to satisfy Breha, and it had because she had turned away with a smile, but something kept her there, lingering. Maybe it was because he didn’t pull back either, just kept his lips pressed against hers, warm and soft and tasting like red wine.

She also didn’t realize she had her hands on his chest, and he had his arms around her waist, and all of a sudden the thought of it burned in her core. She didn’t know who moved first, or maybe they moved together, but suddenly they were kissing, not chastely, not pretending, real and soft and tentative, but still passionate. Cassian had tilted his head, falling deeper into the kiss, and goddamnit she should have known he could kiss like that. Her knees went weak and he held her tighter, just as someone whistled behind them.

“Get a room, you two!” Han had his arms crossed, watching them with a smug look on his face. Leia stood beside him, with the most wicked grin Jyn had ever seen on her. Reluctantly they separated, but Cassian kept his hand on the small of her back.

“I could say the same for you,” Jyn muttered, “Where have you been? I wanna get out of here.”

Leia laughed, grabbed Jyn’s arm and pulled her away from Cassian. She managed to look back and mouth “I’m sorry”, but the look on his face wasn’t sorry at all. He was touching his lips, where she had just been, his eyes wide and bright. Han was smirking behind him.

“So we’re gonna ditch these losers and you’re going to tell me all about what I just saw...” Leia commanded, pulling Jyn out into the cool night air.

For the au question: rebelcaptain in the hunger games

jyn was originally from district 2; her family lived inside the military complex known as the nut, and her father developed weapons for the capitol. somewhere along the way (or maybe it was true all along, no one knows!), both galen and lyra became connected to an interdistrict underground network of rebels, and were killed when their involvement came to light. jyn was taken in by family friend saw, and taken out of district 2 into district 5. they thought that's what would keep her safe — but of course, the capitol has spies everywhere, and so jyn's name was a target to be pulled in the reaping.

cassian is from district 3 — at least, that's what he's told everyone all his life, where the family he lives with is from, and where he's reaped as tribute from. this, of course, is not the whole truth; cassian was the (apparent) sole survivor out of what was once district 13 before the district was (apparently) wiped off the map. and the capitol knows; again, they have spies everywhere. his name was also a target for the reaping to keep district 13 covered up once and for all.

so how do two tributes from two different districts that don't have communication with each other because the capitol keeps them deliberately apart, who are supposed to kill the other in the arena to save their own lives, come to work together? not easily. there's a great deal of animosity in training between them and in some of the pre-games events where the tributes have contact, but when they get into the arena — they make an alliance, because they each have skills and knowledge that are useful; jyn with combat training from when she lived in district 2 and with saw, cassian with extensive knowledge of electrical systems courtesy of living in district 3, as well as scarily good aim. and they come to find that they have a lot in common. they come to like each other — really connect with someone for the first time.

and here's the thing, everyone knows that alliances are going to be temporary; there will be a point where they'll end, because the games only have one victor, right? wrong. they point blank refuse to end that alliance, refuse to turn anything on one another when they're the last two left. they, instead, rig an insane plan to blow up the arena together, even if it means taking themselves out with it. no more fucking hunger games. so they do. and —

in the chaos that ensues, saw and some band of people working with him as rebels get them out of the arena before the whole thing blows up. was this planned ahead of time? not that jyn knew; saw was just counting on his baby girl. anyway, hoo boy is the capitol pissed now, everyone involved is now very explicitly a fugitive, and welcome, in earnest, to the rebellion. and other stuff happens but this was dangerous enough getting me thinking about a hunger games au and i'm not going any further right now ghfjdks

Hi!! How about rebelcaptain medical AU? XO

this is going to be very heavily influenced by one of my current brainrots, which is rewatching house md, so:

1. jyn and cassian are both fellows at a very prestigious teaching hospital, which inherently invites a lot of antagonism and competitiveness as they try to establish themselves in their careers; jyn's specialty is neurology, cassian's is immunology. a lot of the source of the mutual antagonism here is that jyn's father was a very famous and well-respected medical researcher who made advancements in imaging, so cassian thinks she got into this position purely through nepotism, and jyn resents him because she resents anyone who thinks she got here by nepotism and not her own hard fucking work, and she also thinks of him as that know-it-all asshole from immunology.

2. they end up having to collaborate with frequency on a diagnostic team, which involves constant arguments between them about whether the symptoms observed in these cases are neurological or autoimmune while the rest of the table just kind of popcorns them. here's the kicker: they're usually both shades of right, because those things go together a lot! it makes them furious.

3. one day, they get accidentally ("accidentally"; one of their other fellows did this on purpose) get locked in a hospital supply closet. they argue for a while about whose fault it was, argue about how they can get out, take digs at each other just in general because they're stuck there with nothing else to do. so of course — the sexual tension between them that's been brewing for a while eventually boils over. and yeah, they fuck. more than once. even in a cramped supply closet, the sex is fantastic.

4. which of course leaves them both shook, both awkward about it, and when someone finally has the mercy to let them out, they pointedly avoid eye contact with each other. they keep doing this for the next several weeks, avoiding each other whenever possible and being awkwardly cordial when they do have to interact. it's weird. it makes it weird for everyone around them, but —

5. they come to a quiet understanding after working on a difficult case involving a child, and it's... they both know, now, there's more to the other, and that they have a lot more in common than they might've once thought. and they decide, that evening when they leave work, to grab dinner together — and that's the start of a real and lasting connection, the end.

Au where they survive Scarif and have kids after the war

1. after the war, neither jyn nor cassian are able to go live a totally uninvolved, quiet life, because there's still so much to be done for the galaxy. cassian works with new republic intelligence, repeatedly turning down promotions to general because that would mostly keep him behind a desk. jyn works in a more civilian capacity to help people displaced by war — which has her engaging with politics/the senate quite a bit (and which she's much better at than she'd ever given herself credit for). things are stabilizing; they have a home and they're happy together.

2. and their sense of that does start to evolve. eventually, after much time and deliberation (and lbr character development to acknowledge that his chronic pain from his old injuries is only getting worse over time and he can't push his body in the field so much anymore), cassian accepts the promotion. jyn takes a coordinator's position, which has her traveling a lot less. it's then, and only then, that they start to talk about having a child, because given... everything, this isn't something they're walking into lightly; the last thing either of them would want to do would be in a position that would risk abandoning their child.

3. kerri andor-erso is born about a year later. she's extremely willful and hell on wheels — which is to be expected, given who both of her parents are. she is, and they would say this with all the fondness in the galaxy, to be their only child. jyn and cassian are both getting a taste of their own medicine from early on, and she's absolutely wearing them both out lmao who is the only force that could take them out? yeah, their own kid

4. cassian is absolutely a girldad; man was born to be a girldad. the girl has him completely wrapped around her little finger and he knows it, and he puts her hair up in fancy little braids and makes her all her favorite lunches. jyn, meanwhile, is absolutely delighted to have a little mini-me she can teach everything she knows to — and i mean everything she knows. she doesn't have a favorite parent or one she's closer to more than the other, necessarily. and she also has a wealth of uncles and aunts who are all part of the family she knows.

5. and of course there's k2, who's now made it his life's entire directive to protect kerri at all costs. she puts hats and costumes on him and giggles about it, and he doesn't say one word. one word.

so glad i finally get to ramble about some of the Lore i've thought up here but haven't gotten much of a chance to write on yet:

brief character rundowns for this universe! cassian is a war vet who now works as a chef in a high pressure environment and is slowly imploding about it, also he's dealing with chronic pain from a war injury and severe ptsd. jyn came into a career in mma fighting as solace from a turbulent childhood, but recently had a career-ending injury and is struggling both in dealing with that and trying to figure out what the fuck she wants to do with her life from here.

they meet because they're lowkey set up by... melshi, who in this au 1) was in cassian's unit when they were both in the military and they've been friends ever since (also they fucked once upon a time) and 2) got into the mma world after leaving the military and somewhere along the way became jyn's personal trainer. anyway, they're both separately driving him crazy with their respective shit, so he's like... shoves. go hit it off.

and spoilers, oh they do. they hit it off. they hit it off a little TOO well. it isn't cassian and jyn without them being instantly insane about each other, after all; they move in together after, like, a month. bodhi's like i think it's sweet; melshi's like i created this, this is my fault, hello darkness my old friend, but also he's happy for them, he is. anyway, they've got their adjustments and their struggles especially because they're both people who are used to being by themselves but they're making it work

also very shortly after they move in together it is very important to note that jyn adopts this absolute feral gremlin of a cat that she thinks is a perfect angel baby who can do no wrong because he adores the fuck out of her but he's an absolute fucking hellion. his name is oscar. cassian's like what the fuck, has a conniption every time this cat jumps on HIS kitchen counters that are HIS workstation that he keeps clean and ordered in a very precise way!! yeah, cassian, he keeps fucking jumping on your counters because you keep giving him little scraps of food and encouraging this behavior and giving him little scritches behind his ears because you love that little feral gremlin too! (anyway, jyn is the cat's person initially, but then through all of this, cassian also becomes his person. and that's it for the cat. the cat will accept literally no other person. and that's how this cat becomes their feral gremlin baby child.)

which of COURSE becomes a problem when they leave to go spend the holidays with cassian's family and who's the lucky person who gets stuck catsitting oscar? melshi! who calls jyn on facetime while they're in the middle of dinner and she excuses herself to the kitchen to go take the call, and it's melshi with his face covered in scratches screaming at jyn about her hellion cat and jyn screaming back because hOW FUCKING DARE YOU INSULT HIM hE'S PERFECT IN EVERY WAY YOU'RE JUST NOT TRYING HARD ENOUGH. and that ENTIRE facetime screaming match is definitely heard at least two rooms over, and when she hangs up, that's when that occurs to jyn. and... yeah, she's made a pretty fucking terrible first impression, hasn't she? she comes back to the dinner and basically just silently stabs her food violently with her fork the rest of the time. but later that night, she overhears a conversation, without meaning to, between cassian and maarva, the latter of whom is like, "i like her." which is... ok, that's really fucking unexpected, but you know what? she'll take it.

i think i tend to favor open/ambiguous endings, more than outright angsty ones? probably almost paradise, though; the one time i acknowledged mcu gamora died and she was still dead at the end of this, so that was depressing by my standards. also my two canon compliant rogue one fics because i mean... gestures to what canon compliant means.

7. What's the fic you wrote with the happiest ending?

obviously that time rick astley saved the world in that fic of mine from 2009.

8. Do you get hate on fics?

shoutout to that one weirdo who left me anon hate over... checks notes... carol danvers and jessica drew kissing. i even had to report that to ao3 because it was legit harassment, and for what.

9. Do you write smut. If so, what kind?

i did a calculation recently and like 2/3 of the fics i've published in the past two years have been smut. oops.

10. Do you write crossovers? What's the craziest one you've written?

i do love inventing ships out of nothing and making you all see my vision — so while a lot of what i've published on that front has been confined to comic characters who've never interacted before, i do have more in my head.

not that i'm aware of......

yes! anything that's worth my love (is worth the fight) was translated into chinese, and that's still, like, the neatest thing that's ever happened to me.

i've played around with sharing universes with friends and swapping ideas! and a couple of co-written series we dabbled in.

14. What's your all-time favorite ship?

honestly? yeah, it's rebelcaptain. straight up. what you've all witnessed this year is the culmination of 1) my pandemic character arc of having zero shame of what i fling to my ao3 account anymore, and 2) that particular pandora's box getting reopened thanks to andor getting released at the end of last year because being insane about them has lived in me like a sleeper agent since 2016.

15. What's a WIP you want to finish, but doubt you ever will?

ugh unfortunately the marvel cosmic star wars au will probably never get done

16. What are your writing strengths?

getting into character's heads and having the reader experience their emotions, maybe? idk maybe tension between characters, sexual or otherwise? maybe smut? maybe humor?

i hate titles so much. hate hate HATE. song lyrics are my life hack for that.

18. Thoughts on writing dialogue in another language for a fic?

if i don't know the language, i'm not confident i'm going to get it right, so i usually just take the comics approach of < words go here > if this ever comes up.

19. First Fandom you wrote for?

i wrote some unhinged star wars prequels (specifically anidala) fics in high school, and i also started writing unhinged matrix fics around that time. no, none of you will see any of those.

20. Favorite fic you've ever written?

keep whatever it is (that's compelling you on) — because it's the culmination of a story that had lived in my head for years but i didn't think i was skilled enough to carry out, so i was proud i finally wrote it

Going On An Adventure 🧜‍♂️ by peaceluvr69 — is my comedic magnum opus tbh and i made myself laugh stupid the entire time i was writing it, so that has to count for something

here's hoping we collide — i really do genuinely love how this story turned out 🥹 to the point that i actually keep thinking about making a branch universe off of this to give that jyn and that cassian from five years prior to rogue one more chances to know each other and also be... prickly little assholes in a funny way, because they're funny. i imagine the hell they'd raise together and it warms my heart.
