Which Is Better, a Unitank or a Brite Tank?
There is a lot of room for even minute changes to have a large effect during brewing. The tiniest changes to the brewing process can have massive effects, therefore the brewer must be cautious. This means you need to be very careful whether choosing new machinery or making changes to the ones you already have. For example, the material you pick to build your equipment may seem like a little decision, but it can have far-reaching effects on your brewing that you may not notice for quite some time.
The brewing process is quite delicate, thus having high-quality brewing equipment is crucial. Let's take a look at the equipment required to store beer while it ages or ferments. As you consider your options, there is a broader list of considerations than you initially thought. By offering background and reasoning, we hope this decision will seem less intimidating. If you need to ferment, age, or mature something, you can use either brite tanks or uni tanks. There are a number of factors to consider, and the answer may change from case to case. Read on for an in-depth comparison of brite tanks vs uni tanks!
For those who may be wondering, a BRITE TANK IS WHAT?
You may make the case that brite tanks are simpler to build than uni tanks. In comparison to a uni tank, a brite tank has a very different overall shape. There is no footing to the cylindrical brite tanks. Compared to the conical bottom of a uni tank, the flat bottom of a brite tank is not ideal for fermentation, but it is still excellent for storing beer while it is being matured or packed.
What is a UNI-TANK/CYLINDROCONICAL FERMENTER?
The bottom shape of uni tanks is known to differentiate them from brite tanks. The cylindrical storage containers known as "uni tanks" have a conical base instead of a flat one. The yeast can congregate near the cone's base because of its form. Because the yeast may be easily filtered out after fermentation is finished, uni tanks are frequently used for these processes.
THE PROS OF USING A BRITE TANK
A brewery could profit in a few ways if it used a brite tank instead of a uni tank. The most significant benefits of brite tanks are outlined here.
Better Beer, Clearer
The name of the tank already indicates its worth. After secondary fermentation is complete, the beer is moved to the brite tank. If you filter out the yeast before putting the brew into the brite tank to age, you'll end up with a lot clearer beer than if you left the yeast in. For this reason, breweries frequently seek out this clearer product. This is why all anti-aging treatments are conducted in brite tanks.
potential for increased output
Brite tanks may be the most cost-effective solution for large breweries to ferment and store their beer. The brewing and serving facilities at large breweries are usually kept separate. As soon as fermentation is complete, the beer is transported to the brite tank so that the fermenter can be utilized for a new batch while the beer is being served or packaged. You'll have more time to make more batches as a result.
It's cheaper to buy disposable alternatives to permanent components.
Fermentation and aging tanks will eventually need to be replaced. Compared to multipurpose storage containers, brite tanks serve a single function, resulting in fewer moving parts and cheaper production costs, which leads to more affordable final prices. Replacement of a uni tank will cost a lot of money, in contrast to fixing a brite tank, which won't cost too much. For this reason, a brite tank may be the superior long-term investment for a company with limited funds.
DUTCH UNITANKS: THE PROS
A uni tank is superior to a brite tank because of its adaptability. Its versatility in the brewing process means it can often replace more expensive pieces of equipment. Before picking between a brite tank and a uni tank, think about these benefits.
The brewing process needs to be simplified.
Brewing in uni tanks is one way to cut down on steps and save time. Breweries can save money by performing both fermentation and aging in the same tank at the outset. With only one tank needed, you may also free up some room on the ground. Beer doesn't have to be moved about as much as it would if stored in a different tank, saving time and energy.
Lessening the risk of contamination
One of the most crucial things to consider during brewing is the possibility of contamination by airborne microbes. No matter how carefully the brewery's pump system is constructed, some oxygen contamination of the beer is inevitable. The potential for contamination increases in proportion to the number of times the beer is transferred. Evidently, this is a perfect use case for a fleet of uni tanks. While in transit, air and germs can ruin your beer, but a uni tank can keep it fresh.
HOW DO YOU DECIDE ON THE RIGHT ONE?
Brite tanks are more suited for larger breweries, while uni tanks are better suited for microbreweries and other smaller enterprises. The use of uni tanks for the brewing process minimizes the labor required to make beer, which is great news for startups. For larger breweries that need more room for expansion, bright tanks are an excellent alternative because of their increased capacity and the extra room they provide in fermenters.

Fermenter Comparison
Fermenter Comparison - A comparison of the most popular fermenters for homebrewing including a handy sortable table.
If the burner is the heart and soul of your brewery then the fermenter is the backbone. Your beer will never stand tall without a solid fermentation vessel. Fermenters can range from a simple plastic bucket up to a complex jacketed stainless steel conical. You can make some great beer in almost any fermenter but each one does offer its own benefits. Whether you’re upgrading your setup or starting…

Unitank vs. Brite Tank: Which To Choose?
When it comes to brewing, the tiniest of adjustments can have a major impact. A brewer must be aware that even the smallest tweaks to the process can have far-reaching consequences. Because of this, you need to exercise extreme caution whenever selecting new machinery or modifying existing ones. A seemingly insignificant choice, like the material used to construct your equipment, can have far-reaching consequences for your brewing that may not become apparent for quite some time.
Because of the delicate nature of the brewing process, quality brewing equipment is essential. Let's look at the gear you'll need to keep your beer in while it ferments or ages. As you weigh your choices, you might discover a much longer list of factors to think about than you had anticipated. We hope that by providing some context and explanation, this choice will be less daunting. You can use either brite tanks or uni tanks for your fermentation, aging, or maturation needs. However, depending on a number of criteria, one option may prove preferable to the other. The article below will educate you on the distinctions between brite tanks and uni tanks.
A BRITE TANK IS WHAT?
One could argue that brite tanks are easier to construct than uni tanks. The general outline of a brite tank is noticeably different from that of a uni tank. The cylinder-shaped brite tanks are characterized by a flat base. While the flat bottom of a brite tank isn't as conducive to fermentation as the conical bottom of a uni tank, it's still useful for aging beer or holding it while it's being packaged.
A UNI-TANK/CYLINDROCONICAL FERMENTER IS WHAT?
It has been established that the bottom shape distinguishes uni tanks from brite tanks. Unitanks are storage containers with a similar cylindrical shape, but a conical bottom instead of a flat one. Because of the cone's shape, yeast can gather at the base. This characteristic makes uni tanks a great choice for fermentation and aging tanks, as the yeast can be easily filtered out after fermentation is complete.
THE BENEFITS OF USING A BRITE TANK
There are a few benefits that a brewery could reap from using a brite tank instead of a uni tank. Here are a few of the most important gains that brite tanks provide.
CLEARER BEER
The value is implicit in the tank's designation. When the fermentation process is complete in a secondary tank, the beer is transferred to the brite tank. You'll end up with a much clearer beer if you filter out the yeast before putting the brew into the brite tank to age than if you leave the yeast in. Breweries often seek out this more transparent product. That's why all of their anti-aging procedures take place in brite tanks.
greater production potential
Large-scale breweries may find that brite tanks are the most efficient way to store and ferment their beer. Large breweries typically separate their brewing and serving areas. The beer is transferred from the fermenter to the brite tank once fermentation is complete, allowing the fermenter to be used for another batch while the beer is being served or packaged. As a result, you'll have more time to produce additional batches.
DISPOSABLE PARTS ARE LESS EXPENSIVE THAN THEIR ORIGINAL
Tanks used for fermentation and aging will need to be replaced at some point. Since brite tanks have a singular purpose, their reduced complexity and consequently lower production costs translate to lower prices in this scenario. Unlike a brite tank, which can be repaired for relatively little money, replacing a uni tank will set you back a significant sum. Therefore, a brite tank could be a better long-term investment for a financially constrained business.
THE PROS OF USING A UNITANK
The flexibility of a uni tank is what makes it preferable to a brite tank. Because it serves multiple functions in the brewing process, it can reduce the need for other, more expensive pieces of machinery. Consider these advantages before deciding between a brite tank and a uni tank.
Brewing should be less complicated.
The use of unitanks is one option to streamline the brewing process. When first starting out, breweries can save money by combining the fermentation and aging processes in a single tank. Since only one tank is required, you'll also be able to free up some valuable floor space. This saves time and effort because the beer doesn't have to move around as much as it would if it were transferred into a separate tank.
Reduced potential for contamination
The potential for contamination by airborne organisms is one of the most important factors to think about when brewing. There will always be some oxygen contamination in the beer, no matter how well-designed the brewery's pump system is. There is a direct correlation between the frequency with which you transfer your beer and the risk of contamination. As you can see, this is a prime application for uni tanks. A uni tank can prevent your beer from being tainted by air and bacteria while in transit.
HOW DO YOU KNOW WHICH ONE IS BEST FOR YOU?
Overall, larger breweries would benefit more from Brite tanks, while microbreweries and smaller operations would get more out of uni tanks. Brewing in uni tanks reduces the amount of manpower needed to produce beer and helps smaller businesses thrive. As a result of their larger capacity and the space they release in fermenters, bright tanks are a good option for larger brewhouses that are looking to grow.
