Shadow Broker dossiers thingy: the SB depicting Aria as paranoid for lack of intel is a possibility. Though, I have to disagree with you because I think Aria is definitely paranoid. She's running a station filled with criminals. In spite of having ascended to the top (along with few allies she can afford to 'trust'), she remains highly suspicious towards everyone.

Ah, but I do think she is highly suspicious, but that’s normal for someone in a position of power like Aria. Paranoia is something else for me and not just acting as a leader like Aria would. That’s what I meant sorry!

Bastien sat waiting on an appointment with a possible employer. It was no accident they wound up in a bar that had a less that reputable reputation and, more importantly, no security cameras. He had a feeling that both him and this captain didn’t mind avoiding prying eyes. Whether he found new employment or not with this meeting, he was relieved to be moving on from the last ship he had served on. Been there too long.

Did any real people or events inspire any part of it?

Some historical events inspired GBTQ’s main conflict; mostly ideas surrounding the 1953 coup of Iran, except, of course, instead of overthrowing a democratically elected leader, in GBTQ it’s the polar opposite situation. Switching it up has helped me cause some dissonance between who’s actually the good and bad guys here. If you squint, Tevos&Aria might actually be the ‘bad’ guys, even with some good intentions. Ty for asking \(’u’)
