Honestly one of my favorite Ed/Bella Moods (tm) is Edward sullenly willing the future to change. For Bella to please just decide to stay human, all the while relishing in the "selfish" idea of having her by his side for eternity. Loving her enough to want a human life for her, but also knowing her well enough to see that a human life is not what she wants. The agonizing back and forth. Unable to leave her again, unwilling to take away her mortality, he clings to his last and only option: to talk her out of it. To win some time. To convince her to take a year or two. To hope futiley that she will find happiness with him by her side and blood pumping through her veins, time changing her, truly living. All the while knowing, deep down, truly knowing that she will never change her mind. That in her heart of hearts her human life will never be enough. Because she knows there is an option, the option to spend eternity by his side, and there is no unyearning for that.
