📚 A List Of Useful Websites When Making An RPG 📚
My timeloop RPG In Stars and Time is done! Which means I can clear all my ISAT gamedev related bookmarks. But I figured I would show them here, in case they can be useful to someone. These range from "useful to write a story/characters/world" to "these are SUPER rpgmaker focused and will help with the terrible math that comes with making a game".
This is what I used to make my RPG game, but it could be useful for writers, game devs of all genres, DMs, artists, what have you. YIPPEE
Writing (Names)
Behind The Name - Why don't you have this bookmarked already. Search for names and their meanings from all over the world!
Medieval Names Archive - Medieval names. Useful. For ME
City and Town Name Generator - Create "fake" names for cities, generated from datasets from any country you desire! I used those for the couple city names in ISAT. I say "fake" in quotes because some of them do end up being actual city names, especially for french generated ones. Don't forget to double check you're not 1. just taking a real city name or 2. using a word that's like, Very Bad, especially if you don't know the country you're taking inspiration from! Don't want to end up with Poopaville, USA
Writing (Words)
Onym - A website full of websites that are full of words. And by that I mean dictionaries, thesauruses, translators, glossaries, ways to mix up words, and way more. HIGHLY recommend checking this website out!!!
Moby Thesaurus - My thesaurus of choice!
Rhyme Zone - Find words that rhyme with others. Perfect for poets, lyricists, punmasters.
In Different Languages - Search for a word, have it translated in MANY different languages in one page.
ASSETS
In general, I will say: just look up what you want on itch.io. There are SO MANY assets for you to buy on itch.io. You want a font? You want a background? You want a sound effect? You want a plugin? A pixel base? An attack animation? A cool UI?!?!?! JUST GO ON ITCH.IO!!!!!!
Visual Assets (General)
Creative Market - Shop for all kinds of assets, from fonts to mockups to templates to brushes to WHATEVER YOU WANT
Velvetyne - Cool and weird fonts
Chevy Ray's Pixel Fonts - They're good fonts.
Contrast Checker - Stop making your text white when your background is lime green no one can read that shit babe!!!!!!
Visual Assets (Game Focused)
Interface In Game - Screenshots of UI (User Interfaces) from SO MANY GAMES. Shows you everything and you can just look at what every single menu in a game looks like. You can also sort them by game genre! GREAT reference!
Game UI Database - Same as above!
Sound Assets
Zapsplat, Freesound - There are many sound effect websites out there but those are the ones I saved. Royalty free!
Shapeforms - Paid packs for music and sounds and stuff.
Other
CloudConvert - Convert files into other files. MAKE THAT .AVI A .MOV
EZGifs - Make those gifs bigger. Smaller. Optimize them. Take a video and make it a gif. The Sky Is The Limit
Marketing
Press Kitty - Did not end up needing this- this will help with creating a press kit! Useful for ANY indie dev. Yes, even if you're making a tiny game, you should have a press kit. You never know!!!
presskit() - Same as above, but a different one.
Itch.io Page Image Guide and Templates - Make your project pages on itch.io look nice.
MOOMANiBE's IGF post - If you're making indie games, you might wanna try and submit your game to the Independent Game Festival at some point. Here are some tips on how, and why you should.
Game Design (General)
An insightful thread where game developers discuss hidden mechanics designed to make games feel more interesting - Title says it all. Check those comments too.
Game Design (RPGs)
Yanfly "Let's Make a Game" Comics - INCREDIBLY useful tips on how to make RPGs, going from dungeons to towns to enemy stats!!!!
Attack Patterns - A nice post on enemy attack patterns, and what attacks you should give your enemies to make them challenging (but not TOO challenging!) A very good starting point.

Alright, time for some obscure Persona 3 history. I was browsing the old Japanese Persona 3 website, when I stumbled across something interesting. This is what it looks like normally (Vanilla P3 specifically)
Tumblr media
But on certain captures of this website on the Wayback Machine, it was set to midnight (JST). The website was coded to have a special easter egg that goes off around that time, as the Dark Hour clock appears...
Tumblr media
And then the site is now in the Dark Hour.
Tumblr media
Click on the Akihiko, Mitsuru, Fuuka, and Junpei, and cause them to disappear, and Yukari will start to glow.
Tumblr media
And you will have unlocked a secret section of the Japanese website! This mostly contained diary entries on various perspectives regarding the Dark Hour (on one section, there even was text regarding Strega's revenge request site), but there also were some secret downloads, namely a supposedly early version of a Persona 3 commercial (which Google translate says it was rejected by a TV station for containing subliminal content?), MP3 downloads, a video showcasing the P3 girls in maid costumes in Tartarus, and a message from Elizabeth to the player (which acted as a tease towards the new Elizabeth requests being added in FES). I have the latest capture of the secret section of the website, as well as a capture of the website during the Dark Hour so you can try this for yourself! (You'll need Ruffle for this)
Tumblr media
Speaking of the Persona 3 website, let's go over some of the evolution of the P3 website! Here's the original version of the website when Persona 3 was first announced.
Tumblr media
It was updated from P3's initial announcement in March towards May when the newer website was launched, last major update was Fuuka Yamagishi's character profile. Here's a Wayback Machine link for you to try it out yourself.
Here is the website around the time they were teasing FES. Makoto is replaced with Aigis, and there was a section containing audio messages from the developers that would help tease FES. (So far, they are lost media? Hopefully some fan manages to recover them)
Tumblr media
And here is the FES version of the website, with both the normal and Dark Hour variations. (Metis replaces Yukari on the Dark Hour variation of the website, though I cannot access the secret section, probably because the silly toaster is blocking the way)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
And just for funzies, I thought I'd include this link regarding P3 ads in this blogpost on the old AtlusNet. Hopefully somebody will get high quality scans of the magazine ads and promos used to promote P3 in both Japanese and English.
Now to wonder, what other crazy P3 promotional stunts did Atlus do? I know there was a countdown on the Atlus USA website that counted down the days until the release information on FES would be provided to the world, and I'm well aware of various Japanese gaming magazines that had various info on P3 (that so far only exist as JPEGS on the old Digital Devil Database and other websites), but man, I wanna know more. The fans should be archiving a lot of this stuff. Reload has re-triggered my Persona 3 phase, and I want to know more secrets about the game. I honestly think there's a lot of cool things waiting for us down the line...

Re: 8tracks
HUGE UPDATE:
As I said on my earlier post today the CTO of 8tracks answered some questions on the discord server of mixer.fm
IF YOU'RE INTERESTED IN INFORMATION ABOUT 8TRACKS AND THE ANSWERS THE CTO OF 8TRACKS GAVE, PLEASE, KEEP READING THIS POST BECAUSE IT'S A LOT BUT YOU WON'T REGRET IT.
Okay, so he first talked about how they were involved in buying 8tracks, then how everything failed because of money and issues with the plataform then he talked about this new app called MixerFM they developed that works with web3 (8tracks is a web2 product), that if they get to launch it they'll get to launch 8tracks too because both apps will work with the same data.
Here is what they have already done in his own words:
*Built a multitenant backend system that supports both MIXER and 8tracks
*Fully rebuilt the 8tracks web app
*Fixed almost all legacy issues
*Developed iOS and Android apps for MIXER
What is next?
They need to migrate the 8tracks database from the old servers to the new environment. That final step costs about $50,000 and on his own words "I am personally committed to securing the funds to make it happen. If we pull this off since there is a time limit , we will have an chance to launch both 8tracks and MIXER. … so for all you community members that are pinging me to provide more details on X and here on discord, here it is"
Here the screenshots of his full statement:
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
NOW THE QUESTIONS HE ANSWERED:
*I transcribed them*
1. "What's the status of the founding right now?"
"Fundraising, for music its difficult"
2. "Our past data, is intact, isn't?"
"All data still exists from playlist 1"
3. "Will we be able to access our old playlists?"
"All playlists if we migrate the data will be saved. If we dont all is lost forever"
4. "How will the new 8tracks relaunch and MIXER be similar, and how will they be different?"
"8tracks / human created / mix tape style as it was before
mixer - ai asiated mix creation, music quest where people earn crypto for work they provode to music protocol ( solve quests earn money for providing that service )"
5. "Why is 8tracks being relaunched when they could just launch MIXER with our 8tracks database?"
"One app is web2 ( no crypto economy and incentives / ) mixer is web3 ( economy value exchange between users, artists, publishers, labels, advertisers) value (money) is shared between stakeholders and participants of app. Company earns less / users / artist earn more."
6. "Will we need to create a separate account for mixer? Or maybe a way to link our 8tracks to mixer?"
"New account no linking planned"
7. "What do you mean by fixed almost all legacy issues and fully rebuilt the 8tracks web app?"
"We have rebuilt most of 8tracks from scratch i wish could screen record a demo. In Last year we have rebuilt whole 8tracks ! No more issues no more bugs no more hacked comments"
8. "Will the song database be current and allow new songs? For example if someone makes a K pop playlist theres the capability for new songs and old not just all songs are from 2012. There will be songs from 2020 onwards to today?"
"Current cut of date is 2017, we have planed direct label deals to bring music DB up to speed with all new songs until 2025. This means no more song uploads"
9. "The apps would be available for android and outside USA?"
"USA + Canada + Germany + UK + Sweden + Italy + Greece + Portugal + Croatia in my personal rollout plan / but usa canada croatia would be top priority"
10. "Will 8tracks have a Sign in with Apple option?"
"It will have nothing if we don’t migrate the database but yes if we do it will have it"
11. ""Will Collections return?"
"Ofc If we save the database its safe to assume collections will return"
12. "Will the 8tracks forums return?"
"No that one i will deleted People spending too much time online"
13. "No more songs uploads forever or no more songs until…?"
"Idk, this really depends on do we save database or no. Maybe we restart the process of song uploads to rebuild the and create a worlds first open music database If anyone has any songs to upload that is
We operate under different license"
14. "What is your time limit? for the funding, I mean"
"Good question I think 2-3 months"
15. "From now?"
"Correct"
16. "When is the release date for Mixer?"
"Mixer would need 2-3 more months of work to be released Maybe even less of we would use external database services and just go with minimum features"
17. "Do you have the link for it?"
"Not if we dont secure the database that is number one priority"
*That was the end of the questions and answers*
Then he said:
"You need to act bring here (discord) people and help me set up go fund me camping of investor talks fail so we secure the database and migrate data so we can figure out whats next"
He also said he'll talk with the CEO about buying him the idea of community funding, that all who participate should have a lifetime subscription and "some more special thing", we suggested a message on the 8tracks official accounts (twitter, their blog, tumblr) and he was okay with the idea but he said they need to plan it carefully since the time is limited.
Okay, guys, that's so far what he said, I hope this information helps anyone, I don't know if they get to do a community funding but take in consideration it's a plausible option and that what they want from us is to participate in any way like for example spreading the message, if most people know about it the best, they also want you to join their server so here's the link to the website of mixerfm and where you can join the server:
Keep tagging few people who were discussing about this:
@junket-bank, @haorev, @americanundead, @eatpandulce, @throwupgirl, @avoid-avoidance, @rodeokid, @shehungthemoon, @promostuff-art @tumbling-and-tchaikovsky

Sex Differences in Serial/Mass Murder
I recently received an ask about a specific female serial killer, which I will be answering soon, but I wanted to make a separate post about serial/mass murder statistics for those who'd like a more generic discussion (rather than about a specific person).
For terminology: serial murder refers to the killings of multiple people over separate events while mass murder refers to the killing of many people within a single event. The line between these can be blurred in some cases (e.g., if a man shoots and kills his family before going on a "rampage" and killing many unrelated individuals is that serial or mass murder?), but that this the rough delineation between the two.
---
Serial Murder
Professionals working at Radford University and Florida Gulf Coast University (FGCU) have developed an incredibly interesting Serial Killer Database [1]. It is likely the most (although not completely) comprehensive database of serial killers in existence. They have defined serial murder as "the unlawful killing of two or more victims by the same offenders in separate event".
There is an important note to their research: it can only identify known serial killers for which some record has been kept. (I'll explicate why this is important to keep in mind later. But, first some stats:)
They found:
Women make up only ~10% of all (identified) serial killers in history
The percentage of (identified) female serial killers has decreased over time and is lower in the USA compared to other countries
"Financial gain is the primary motive for women serial killers whereas enjoyment is the primary motive for men" (Also discussed in [2]).
"Male serial killers are much more likely that female serial killers to torture victims, mutilate the body after death, and engage in overkill ... [and] more likely to engage in necrophilia"
However, this data is likely skewed towards an over-estimation of female serial killers. As mentioned before, this data base includes only serial killers that have been identified and recorded. As a result:
The number of identified serial killers is much higher for recent modern times (i.e., 20th and 21st centuries) than for all the rest of history combined. (Specifically, there are only 250 recorded serial killers, out of 5752, before 1900). It is unlikely that serial killers are simply a modern phenomenon. Instead, it's most likely that (1) detection methods have been improved over time, such as the advent of modern forensics, (2) record keeping has been improved over time, or (3) both detection and record keep have improved over time.
The above supposition is supported by the difference in serial killer frequency between the USA and other countries. According to the report, ~64% of all serial killers are in the USA. They note, however, that "caution should be taken in reviewing this table as the number of serial killers by country is a function of the number of actual killers, the number caught, and the number reported by police or the media". It is again unlikely that the USA truly houses 64% of the world's serial killers, and more likely that better detection methods and record keeping has skewed the results towards the USA.
As a result of this, however, the percentage of female serial killers is likely inflated by this report. Female serial killers are less likely to kill strangers (a type of serial killing that is often detected and the killer often identified by modern forensics). They are also more likely to have visible benefits (i.e., the financial gain) than male serial killers, potentially providing a clearer link to their crimes prior to modern forensic methods.
In fact, the raw number of female serial killers has remained relatively stable over the recorded time periods (excepting a spike in frequency that was mirrored in the male serial killer statistics). This suggests that, rather than fewer/a smaller proportion of female serial killers being identified over time, the number/proportion of male serial killers identified has been increasing. This is reflected in the decreasing percentage of female serial killers over time.
To obtain a better estimate of the true proportion prevalence of female serial killers I calculated the proportion within restricted frames. Women make up:
~9% of all identified serial killers after 1900
~7.5% of all identified serial killers after 1900 in the USA
~7% of all identified serial killers over the last 50 years (since 1970)
~6% of all identified serial killers over the last 50 years (since 1970) in the USA
Given this, it's likely that the true proportion of female serial killers is closer to 6-7%.
For the interested, this review [2] and this article [3] elucidate the differences between female and male serial killers.
---
Mass Murder
I have previously made a few posts about the connection between domestic violence and mass shootings, but I'll expand on mass shooting statistics here with some interesting new sources.
First, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security has recently released a first of its kind report on "Mass Attacks in Public Spaces" [4]. The inclusion criteria they used was somewhat restrictive (only for 2016-2020, in the USA, harmed three or more people, in public locations). Despite this, the data is high quality, and carefully analyzed. Importantly, they found that 96% of the attackers were male.
Further, they found "nearly half of the attackers were found to have had a history of domestic violence, misogynistic behaviors, or both." (It is also possible -- even likely -- that, given the minimal attention paid to misogynistic biases by mass violence task forces, that other attackers had an undocumented history of domestic violence/misogynistic behaviors.)
Other studies with slightly different inclusion criteria find similar results:
Looking at public shootings with four or more victims in the USA between 1966 and 2017, found men were the attackers in 96% of shootings. [5] (Importantly, this analysis excludes familicides and mass shootings connected to organized crime/gang violence. Both of these types of crimes are also male dominated.)
"Familicide is almost exclusively a crime perpetrated by men." [6] (A hard statistic for this crime is difficult to pin down, it's certainly >95%, but many sources put it either at or extremely close to 100%.)
Another analysis looking at public shootings with four or more victims in the USA between 1976 and 2018, found 98% of shooters were male. [7] This source demonstrates the issue with restricting analysis to only public shootings, as over 80% of mass shootings during this time period were not public.
A final source [8] documents various tools attempting to track mass shootings and the differences between them. In summary, they find men were the shooter in 98% of incidents.
---
Ultimately, this indicates that in addition to accounting for at least 90% of all "normal" homicide perpetrators (post with data and [9] which indicates that the global proportion is closer to 95%), men also make up >90% of serial killers and >95% of mass murderers.

PERSONAL FILE: Name: kim, mathias Callsign: Shadow Division: Gluttony Service Time: Nine years Age: 40 years old Original from: Busan, South Korea Height: 6’2’’ Hair Color: Black Eye Color: Brown
CURRENT SKILLSET: Expertise: investigation, stealth, close-combat mastery Proficiencies:sleight of hand, insight, marksmanship, deception, pain tolerance Substandard areas: hacking & cyber warfare, athletics
AUGMENTED ABILITY ANALYSIS: SHADOW is capable of controlling, manipulating and even become one with shadows and darkness. He is known to use shadows as a way to get in and out of places quicker, using the darkness for a wide array of effects. He can extend the darkness in an area to fully provide cover for himself or others, as well as use that very same darkness to his advantage by turning it into weapons. When the darkness is large enough or thick enough, SHADOW is capable of calling forth Shadow Constructs to fight for him, watch his back if protection is needed or even send them to spy on others by having his constructions slip into someone else’s shadow.
Shadows may vary in form, either a dark mist that clouds the sight until it becomes complete darkness or more physical in the form of dark tendrils, chains and whatever SHADOW may need at a certain given time. And while light is the antithesis of his ability, for it reduces the shadows available for him, it also makes the few shadows available more powerful since they achieve a state of density that allows a much clearer focus.
AUGMENTED ABILITY KNOWN LIMITATIONS:
SHADOW is unable to create shadows, only to manipulate them if present. His ability to fully extend a shadow toward other darkened areas and bring everything under total darkness is something that requires time and concentration to achieve. While light isn’t exactly something that weakens his powers, it limits the amount of shadows available for him to manipulate and control.

Althea Irving, 30 (USA 1989)
Althea Irving was trying to seek medical help, not abortion. According to the lawsuit filed by her sister, she went to Samaritan Medical Center on June 28, 1989.
Althea was about twelve weeks pregnant and was seeking care because she was experiencing bleeding. Although she hadn’t yet lost her baby, SMC staff told her that it was “inevitable” and put her through a “medically indicated” suction curettage abortion. They did not take the right precautions with Althea and discharged her within hours of admission even though she was already showing symptoms of a serious complication. At the time of her discharge, she had a fever of 102 degrees.
Five days later, Althea was sitting on her porch when she suddenly vomited, “keeled over” and died. She was taken back to SMC, where the ER declared her dead on arrival. They listed her cause of death on her certificate as “acute cardiopulmonary arrest.”
Althea’s sister did not know the full story behind her death until 1992, when she discovered evidence of the malpractice. SMC had discharged Althea even though she was showing signs of developing a uterine infection. This was what caused the cardiopulmonary arrest.
Unfortunately, attempts to seek justice for Althea hit a roadblock because the lawsuit was not filed immediately. The delay in filing was because Althea’s family had not discovered the malpractice until later.
The CDC counted the deaths of two unidentified Black women aged 30–34 among their deaths from legal abortion in 1989. However, during the same year, 34-year-old Debra Gray and 31-year-old Glenda Davis were also killed. Research later showed that neither cause of death was reported to the National Center for Health Statistics as abortion-related. At best, the CDC failed to notice either Althea, Debra or Glenda. At worst, they may have missed all three.

Think about it. We all vote. What do the 10 Commandments say about false testimony?
The Ninth of the Ten Commandments is “You shall not give false witness against your neighbor.” This means two things: “Do not lie when testifying in court.” And, “Do not lie.” Period. Remember, for an action to be prohibited or demanded in the Ten Commandments it has to be fundamental to making civilization. Thinking, Thinking about those or anyone who would vote for this monster
Just from personal observation of people over the years, I have developed a perception, subjective of course, that we all are mentally lazy, including me–especially me. I know for a fact that I am guilty of this impediment–seriously so. Since I don’t dare be alone with this defect (my ego won’t tolerate it), I must assume we are all in this together, including those much smarter–we are all this way. Aren't we? It is just a question of how much more or less. Isn’t it? Think about it.
What brings the subject to my mind just now is that I have been reading a book (I’m not quite finished yet) by Dr. Daniel Kahneman, titled Thinking, Fast and Slow; and, what do you know? Surprise! I am vindicated. Dr. Kahneman tells us we have two kinds of thinking, Type 1 and Type 2. I’ll probably not be able to explain this as well as he; but, nevertheless, I’ll do my best. These are my words and interpretation.
As I understand, our minds constantly operate under Type 1. We think and make decisions fast; Type 1 is automatic, operating off the information and experience we have accumulated and stored in our mental data base over time–whatever that may be. You have heard many times the statement, “Garbage in, Garbage Out”. This is where that comes into play for better or for worse. You get out of your mind what you put into it. Jesus says, “As you think, so you are”. Type 2, on the other hand is your thinking or reasoning process. This is the lazy side of our thinking. We actually resist using it. It operates to overrule Type 1 when necessary. A simple example of its use might be seen in driving a car when, all of a sudden, you are threatened by an extraneous event–another vehicle runs a red light in front of you, a pedestrian is in the crosswalk, the light turns yellow, etc. A decision has to be made. Reasoning is required. I’m sure by now you get the general idea. Type 2 facilitates decision-making.
In addition to the facilitation of decision-making, Type 2 is used when we read, study, listen, calculate, experience, etc. The more we use this type of thinking, the better we will develop our inner database and make better and more reliable decisions, building knowledge, eliminating misinformation, and erasing bias and prejudice in our minds–enabling the effectivity of our Type 1 thinking. But, we don’t like to do that, do we? We would rather take the easy way out. That’s the mental laziness coming out in all of us–a fact of life that feeds our everyday reliance on preconceived notions, opinions, bias, prejudice, and animosities, our level of intelligence notwithstanding. Even the smartest of the smartest is susceptible to this flaw in our nature.
Think about it. We all vote or do we? From: Steven P. Miller, @ParkermillerQ, gatekeeperwatchman.org TM...‎Founder and Administrator of Gatekeeper-Watchman International Groups. Secrets Behind Amazon’s Fast-Paced Growth
Tumblr media
The growth of Amazon is phenomenal to say the least. The company started as an online bookstore selling books and other related products. Today it is one of the largest companies in the world. What is the reason behind this kind of growth? Some of the factors include; Amazon has always been a customer-centric company. They offer fast shipping, easy returns, and many other features that make shopping a fun and exciting experience. This focus on customer satisfaction has helped them to expand rapidly.
The second is that Amazon never stops innovating. The company is always experimenting. They came up with Amazon Prime, which was a fast delivery service and access to other materials. This move helped in attracting millions of loyal customers. Another example is Amazon Web Services (AWS). AWS began as a simple cloud computing service. Now, it is one of the key segments of Amazon’s operations and a significant source of its revenue. This demonstrates how Amazon is willing to take risks and how this pays off.
Last but not the least, the efficient use of data has been the key to the growth of Amazon. The company gathers a huge amount of information. They employ this data to determine the customers’ needs. For instance, Amazon’s recommendation system is based on the previous purchase made by the customer. This makes customers to be in a position to buy. Also, Amazon applies data for optimization of its processes. This efficiency enables them to set reasonable prices for their products. Thus, Amazon has been able to outcompete its rivals through the proper utilization of data.
it can be stated that Amazon’s success is not a mere coincidence. The company’s commitment to the customer, its ability to experiment, and its ability to leverage data have all helped it. The factors mentioned above are well illustrated in the journey of Amazon and they all contribute to the growth of the business. These secrets will remain important as the company grows and develops in the future.
