I've needed a new laptop for years but I'm simply too afraid to buy the #wrong one somehow because I know nothing about specs or anything so I just walk into Staples, stare at one for a while then walk out each time because "I'll figure out the specs I need for sure next time" and then I never do because idek what that means

Wilma again

I have ongoing issues with the Linux Mint installation on the laptop I use for software development and blogging.

You may recall I tried upgrading to version 22 (code name: Wilma), encountered a graphics regression, and had to revert the upgrade using TimeShift. Since then, my Linux experience hasn't been quite right. While troubleshooting an issue, I uninstalled Python; this broke APT, causing routine software updates to fail.

Yesterday I created a new partition on the HDD and attempted a clean install of Wilma there. After several tries, I suspect that my largest USB thumb drive (NXT brand, purchased in January 2024) suffers from data corruption.

Believe it or not, my 2nd-largest thumb drive is too small to hold the 2.9 GByte ISO image, so this morning I'm off to buy a new thumb drive.

I wonder how the kkoma yjhs work like their whole reason for existing is to compartmentalize SP's long existence but they seem to retain their own memories past the point of being created. If a kkoma lived too long would he also need to start making kkomas? About keychain sized. Will SP eventually reabsorb them all and then recreate them so they all turn out to be amnesiacs? The marvel of technology is that a large wall clock in my living room quits working, and I order a new movement for ten bucks, but when the quartz movement goes out in my watch, I’m quoted more than $200 to replace it when the watch wasn’t worth that to begin with.

When the backlight goes out on my laptop screen, I’m quoted anywhere from $300 to $700 to fix it (and highly discouraged to do so because despite working perfectly it’s almost ten years old), then told its a motherboard issue, thereby forcing me to buy a new laptop anyway for hundreds more. But a lightbulb in my room costs like three bucks to replace.
