Advanced Praise for HOW TO BE FOUND!
Three of my fave authors--Lawrence Hill, Heather O’Neill and Uzma Jalaluddin--read my forthcoming novel HOW TO BE FOUND (which you can preorder now!!!) and wrote wonderful reviews for the back cover:
“Emily Pohl-Weary's wonderfully entertaining novel teems with the exuberant vitality of two teen girls who - despite obstacles that are sometimes serious and at other times hilarious - insist on defining themselves on their own terms and living freely and with self-confidence.” --Lawrence Hill, author of Beatrice and Croc Harry and The Book of Negroes
“In How to Be Found, teenagers dance on the precipitous line between childhood and adulthood, shocked by their conflicting desires for freedom and love. Emily Pohl-Weary celebrates the families that teens create for themselves and examines the value of bold, powerful, and transformative childhood friendships. This is a rich and inclusive portrait of modern adolescence and its rejection of the patriarchal idea of family.” --Heather O'Neill, author of Lullabies for Little Criminals and When We Lost Our Heads
An endearing portrait of the power of friendship and found family, How to Be Found is an engaging mix of mystery and coming-of-age, set in a gritty Toronto neighbourhood. Not to be missed. --Uzma Jalaluddin, author of Much Ado About Nada and Hana Khan Carries On

Uzma Jalaluddin’s MUCH ADO ABOUT NADA – Miss Bates Reads Romance
I enjoyed reading Jalaluddin’s Ayesha At Last, but I could see her neophyte writer flaws throughout. Not quite in control of her material, extraneous scenes, ungainly tone shifts, wobbly characterization, uneven pacing. (Why Hana Khan Carries On languishes in the TBR.) While there were flaws to her latest, Much Ado About Nada, this was also a romance writer in control of her material, with a…

Mystery/Thriller Monday

Lila moves back home to both recover after a breakup, but, also help her Tita Rosie and her restaurant. When an ex boyfriend of hers from high school drops dead after arguing with Lila, the police think that she’s the main (okay, not just main, also only) suspect. There’s also the matter of the fact that the landlord of the restaurant wants to get them out so that money can be made on the storefront.
Unsurprisingly, Lila finds herself on the case. Luckily, the secondary characters, like the aunties (awesome), and her best friend (a barista) are there and they were just awesome. And then, there was Longanisa, my favorite character. A Dachshund and just written so so well.
It was a fun twisty, turny mystery, with characters that were awesome, and just the right amount of Abobo to go with the Arsenic.
You may like this book If you Liked: A Deadly Inside Scoop by Abby Collette, Mimi Lee Gets a Clue by Jennifer J. Chow, or Hana Khan Carries On by Uzma Jalaluddin
Arsenic and Adobo by Mia P. Manansala
