Helloo!
It’s me again and I want to first off say that I love what you did for my other request it turned out so cute, literally saving it in my stash for late night reads to come back too (。>\\<)
I just wanted to come here and ask for any general hcs you might have for a romantic relationship between dogday x reader and how they would act!
You can expect me again at some point with other requests but until then don’t overwork yourself and remember to stay hydrated ──★ ˙ ̟🎀 !!
Hello anon! 🎀
I'm so glad you liked what I wrote for you! Please, please take a seat as I go through head cannons! Take a seat in my humble home and have a snack. Would you like some Arizona green tea?
But as for head cannons, and romantic ones at that I have a few things in mind.
Dogday likes to be called petnames too!! Call him Sunflower or Sunshine or even puppy and he will MELT
He also has more petnames than just Angel for you, but that's his favorite one to use. You are his angel after all
(these petnames would be things like: darling, sweetheart, or if he's wanting to tease you and be 'mean' he would call you a brat in a wholesome way)
Definitely will distract you from any chores or work you have just for a quick snuggle
But it's okay dw you do the same when he's washing dishes for you
Sensitive places that he will only allow you to touch and no one else are places like his ears or his snout, even his toebeans
(does this dude have toe beans-)
Will DEFINITELY run from you if you have the vacuum
He may not fully be a dog but he has dog like traits
Will follow you around like a lost puppy
He is your lost puppy
You two have those cliche shirts like "if lost return to Angel" and "I'm angel" despite the fact you two cannot go out in public, you just find it funny
This man gives the best back rubs
Long day at work? Expect his big ass paws to be massaging any knots out of your back or thighs
His favorite places to touch you are your shoulders, sides, and face
You definitely steal food off his plate
NOT THAT HE MINDS NO eat as much as you'd like
But if you order McDonald's then he's already dumped out half of his fries into your chicken nugget box for you to have
He KNOWS how you work
You are covered in golden fur like, 24/7.
Your coworkers question it since they didn't think you had pets
No it's just your BIG ASS DOPE AT HOME
Cuddles are FORBIDDEN while you're getting ready for work
(this does not stop him)
But basically, very loving relationship. He loves to praise you but feels a little bit at a loss for words when you try to praise him
Probably vise versa too
That's all I have for now!

@galauvant happy new year!! may it bring you many ready-to-eat snacks and ingredients for thai home cooking
here's a little shopping list of some things i recommend getting if you go there:
oishi green tea kyoho grape with nata de coco: the first time i saw people drink this mid-romantic scene in a thai bl it was a bit jarring, but that was only because i hadn't tried it before. it's so lovely; i could write sonnets about it.
golden mountain seasoning sauce: you can get it elsewhere but they sell a liter of it for like $5, which is very worth it if you make garlic noodles or any thai stir fries regularly
dragonfly brand black soy sauce: for pad see ew! (the one with the orange cap. if you don't anticipate using it much, honestly you could probably up the soy sauce/add chinese black soy sauce and add a very small amount of molasses?)
ABC brand sweet soy sauce: a common malay and indonesian condiment. this is way too sweet for me but i had a roommate who put it on everything and felt like i should mention that they sell it!
big bags of glutinous rice for way less than you'd pay anywhere else
BAMBOO CONE STEAMER (หวด). THIS WILL CHANGE YOUR LIFE IF YOU LIKE STICKY RICE. it's like $6 if you have a pot that it will fit in, and still under $20 if you need to buy a pot to go with it. it is impossible to mess up sticky rice using this method. there is literally zero measuring required and it gives the rice such a nice fragrance. i've been able to make mango sticky rice on a whim every time i've seen a good deal on good mangoes the last couple of years and this is why. here is a video on how to make sticky rice with it! and here is a mango sticky rice recipe i use as a template. for 1 cup uncooked sticky rice i use one 8.5oz carton of aroy d coconut milk to ½ cup sugar and 1 tsp salt, then reserve a scant ½ cup of the dissolved coconut milk mixture for the sauce. (cornstarch works as a thickener if you don't have rice flour!)
frozen khanom thien (ขนมเทียน) there's a similar lao dessert called kanom nap, and a burmese dessert called mok phet thot. it's a steamed glutinous rice dumpling wrapped in banana leaves and filled with a caramelized shredded coconut/palm sugar filling! here are a handful of videos of people making it!
butterfly pea flowers: not cheap but i think still cheaper than i've seen them elsewhere?? relatedly! there is a thai restaurant on the UES that sells chor muang (ช่อม่วง). I think it was Thep on 75th and 2nd?? They're beautiful, interesting, and a pain to make, and I've never seen them on another restaurant menu.
frozen pandan leaves: not sure where else i would get them in nyc, although pretty much any SE asian grocery store will carry them.
makrut lime leaves: sometimes sold frozen, sometimes in a little ziploc bag in the refrigerated section. *girl scout cookie sales voice* they freeze well!
frozen galangal slices
fun lays flavors
nam prik pao (นำ้พริกเผา): if you don't eat shrimp, there's one vegetarian brand that uses dried shiitake mushroom for the savory element (Chua Hah Seng vegetarian chilli paste - นำ้พริกเผาฉั่วฮะเส็ง มังสวิรัติ)
palm sugar: available elsewhere, but usually more expensive
fresh/frozen coconut milk: worth trying at least once! it's also worth getting one or two shelf-stable cartons of coconut milk if you've only had canned before, but their prices aren't great—i usually get the 6- or 12-packs of 8.5 oz cartons of aroy d on amazon
they sell a little frozen tom yum veggie set with lemongrass, galangal, and lime leaves, which is nice if you're only planning to make it once or twice
sundried bananas (กล้วยตาก): they don't always carry these. sometimes they're vacuum packed; sometimes they have them in a little plastic clamshell container
If you're cooking for a vegetarian or someone with a shellfish allergy and looking at savory items, note that there are two words that get translated as "vegetarian," which are used somewhat interchangeably but strictly speaking mean different things—'je' (เจ) and 'mangsawirat' (มังสวิรัติ). เจ/je doesn't include onions, garlic and certain other vegetables. If you see something labeled as vegetarian curry paste, you'll want to check whether they just mean no shrimp paste, or no shrimp paste/garlic/shallots!! Items labeled as มังสวิรัติ/mangsawirat will not contain meat, shellfish, fish, or fish sauce, but can contain allium.

I had a pretty excellent day off. I wish I slept a little more when I took a nap this afternoon. But that's alright. It was still a really good day.
I slept okay. And let myself sleep in a bit.
When I got up I felt pretty fine. I decided to do some cleaning. I got dressed and kissed on Sweetp. I changed the kitty litter and vacuumed. I changed the sheets and the duvet cover. I felt very productive.
I had a snack and decided I would leave around 11 to go do all my shopping for the house. It was going to storm this afternoon so I thought I would leave a bit early.
I would drive out to Canton crossing. With some bursts of down pouring rain along the way. But I got out there before 11. Which was only bad because most of the stores didn't open until 11. Which I didn't realize. Oops.
So I went to target first. The carts were all wet. I had a funny interaction with a family, who commiserated about the wet carts but also that the first carts we tried also had broken wheels?? I changed it out and got a quiet, working cart. I got the cat food and litter and other things I needed form there. I felt bad when I picked up a bag of litter and it was torn and spilled everywhere. I found someone who worked there to let them know and they were like. Oh man. That happens so often. Annoying I'm sure.
I finished up in there pretty fast. I found most of the things I thought I would be able to get there. I paid and headed to the next place.
Ulta was next. They apparently don't have body shop lotion anymore so I got hemp brand. I had a coupon but then it was also 30% off so I got my $25 lotion for $8! I always use Jess's phone number at Ulta so apparently I have earned her $6 off too but I left that for her. Which msde her laugh when I texted her about it.
Five below was next. Where I got a bunch of candy, but I also found calico critters blind bags for me and Jess for next weekend when she comes to visit. And I got 4 soft side boxes for my cart in my studio. Exactly the size I needed.
I had a coupon for DSW and I tried to see if they had the flip flops. But no luck. That's alright. I left there and returned to the car.
I put everything away and drove to the other end of the shopping center. I went to the Nordstrom rack but it was a little overwhelming. No luck on flip flops there but they did have philosophy lotion, and I got the lemon cream which I love. So it wasn't a total loss.
I went next door and got kitty litter deodorizer and I got Sweetp a beautiful new collar. It's black velvet and has a gold ring detail and it is just so fancy! I will have to get a picture of it on him.
I decided on lunch next. There is a shake shack over there and I decided to use their drive through for the first time. Which felt weird! I got my mushroom burger and they had spicy cheese fries. I decided to bring all of it home.
I took a weird ways home and got back in about 15 minutes.
When I got home I struggled to carry everything up but I got it. And didn't drop anything but it was tough.
I put stuff away and set up to have my little lunch and the fries were super super spicy but also really really good. It was an excellent meal.
I got everything out away. Put the stuff for camp in a bag. And chilled in the AC.
I would lay down for an hour. But I think I only actually slept for a half hour. I woke up when I had a text that was important to answer right away. And then James and me decided they would tell me at 3 if they needed me to come get them because of the incoming storm.
They decided that they didn't want me to come. And would end up getting stuck in the thick of the storm. Which made me feel so guilty.
I would sit in the window and have some ice cream and watch the rain and wait for James to get home.
They were soaking wet when they got home. They would get changed and dried off. And I would chill on bed. I had lost all of my energy.
James had their DND game with their friends. And I would rest. I took a shower and Waheed my hair. Laid in bed so my hair could dry for a while. Eventually I would go sit on the floor in the studio and fill all the bears I made with polyfil. I'll get them sewn shut this week.
James would make me breakfast for dinner again. Which was great. And we would just hang out. And then coming to lay in bed. Which is where we are now.
Tomorrow James is coming to camp with me! They are going to help with the project and I am looking forward to their company. And we will leave early for my rhumatologist appointment. I hope it is a good day.
Sleep well everyone. I hope you are staying cool.

Diverse and Dynamic: Emerging Trends from ECRM’s Natural, Organic, and Healthy Foods Session
September 20, 2024
Nancy Trent
The natural and organic food space continues to evolve, meeting the growing consumer demand for products that are as good for the planet as they are for personal health. At ECRM’s Natural, Organic & Healthy Foods Session in Indian Wells, CA, industry leaders, retailers, and innovators converged to showcase the latest in clean, sustainable, and nutritious offerings. This highly anticipated event highlighted not only the newest brands and products but also the overarching trends shaping the future of the industry.
"We continue to see more suppliers focusing on key ingredients, with a focus on healthy, better-for-you," said Tyler Barich, VP of Grocery at ECRM. "We had a dynamic group of retailers (including mainstream grocers & alternative channels) who are continuing to diversify their product assortments and healthier options for consumers."
Here are some of the most significant trends and purpose-driven brands that are paving the way for a healthier, more sustainable food industry:
Sustainability & Regenerative Agriculture
"Consumers are growing increasingly aware of the importance of both people and planet,” said Abby Massey, Senior Business Development Manager at Fairtrade America.  “As they walk the grocery store and make purchasing decisions, seeing the Fairtrade Mark on their favorite products provides them with the assurance that the ingredients are ethically and sustainably sourced, and verified by an independent third party. Since 2019, we've seen an 118% growth in consumer awareness of Fairtrade in the US with trust levels reaching an impressive 86% among consumers who know Fairtrade."
Sustainability is at the heart of the natural food movement, and regenerative agriculture is the next frontier. Brands that prioritize planet-friendly practices are redefining what it means to produce healthy, nutrient-dense foods while healing the Earth.
Bluebird Grain Farms offers 100% certified organic ancient whole grains, milled fresh and farmed using regenerative practices. Their grains including emmer, spelt and einkorn provide a unique farm-to-table experience that’s both nutritious and sustainable.
Alter Eco Foods delivers indulgence with a purpose. Their delicious organic chocolates, granola, and quinoa are made using clean ingredients within regenerative ecosystems. With sustainable packaging and carbon-neutral practices, they are a Certified B Corporation dedicated to healing the planet.
Avelina crafts premium, farm-to-table oats that are gluten-free, non-GMO, and packed with essential nutrients—perfect for a healthy breakfast or recipe ingredient.
Spring Creek Quail Farms offers quail eggs as a nutrient-rich, humane alternative to chicken eggs. These keto-friendly, eco-packaged eggs are hormone and antibiotic-free, providing an affordable protein source.
The Healthy Snacking Boom
As consumers embrace mindful eating, healthy snacks are on the rise. People are looking for snacks that pack a nutritional punch without sacrificing taste, and brands are responding with creative, guilt-free options.
Coaslink Corp specializes in vacuum-fried Shiitake Mushroom Chips, a crunchy, vegan snack that achieves a perfect balance of nutrition and flavor, led by an innovative female CEO.
Top Fox keeps it simple with crunchy, pop-roasted pumpkin seeds. These organic, non-GMO snacks are an excellent source of clean protein.
Plant-Based and Allergen-Free Innovation
Plant-based products continue to gain traction as consumers seek alternatives to animal-based ingredients and allergen-free options. The rise of plant-based eating has also spurred innovation in unexpected categories.
Pretty Tasty Tea offers rejuvenating and delicious collagen tea with 10 grams of collagen peptides per serving. Sugar-free, allergen-free, non-GMO and gluten-free, this tea promotes joint, skin, hair, and nail health in super great looking cans.
Garden Goddess brings ancient remedies into the modern health-conscious lifestyle with their organic, vegan Beet Kvass, a fermented tonic packed with probiotics that boost gut health, immunity, and mental clarity as well as the most creative recipes for sauerkraut that I have seen.
WOOP4 redefines plant-based seafood with their allergen-free fish substitute made from natural ingredients, offering a perfect texture for sushi, tartare, and poke dishes. They even make a plant-based piraña that has become a media darling.
Low Glycemic & Low-Sugar Options
As consumers become more aware of the impact of sugar on health, brands are developing low-glycemic and sugar-free alternatives that allow people to enjoy sweetness without the associated health risks.
Choward’s has maintained its timeless appeal with flavorful mints and gums since the 1930s, offering a low-glycemic, sugar-conscious indulgence that has stood the test of time and has enjoyed a resurgence as retro candy delights hipsters.
International Flavors
Global cuisine continues to influence the natural food industry, offering consumers exciting and authentic flavors from around the world. The push for diversity in food is expanding palates and bringing international delicacies to mainstream markets.
United With Earth specializes in ethnic produce like Medjool dates, coconut and almond date rolls, and Persian cucumbers. This minority-owned company is dedicated to sustainable farming and health-conscious foods.
Kibun Foods USA imports high-quality, easy-to-prepare surimi seafood from Japan and Thailand, bringing authentic Asian flavors to everyday meals. Their Healthy Noodles as we as their Natti are not to be missed!
Pozole (Pozolazo) offers a dehydrated soup made from traditional Aztec recipes, keeping authentic flavors intact while embracing modern, health-conscious production processes. •
Regal Kitchen Foods makes pre-cooked vegetarian Indian meals ready in 90 seconds, blending convenience with 100% natural, organic, gluten-free, and plant-based ingredients.
The Future of Natural Foods
ECRM’s Natural, Organic & Healthy Foods Session reinforced the natural food industry’s commitment to innovation, sustainability, and health. The trends showcased at this event reflect a growing consumer demand for diverse, healthy, and environmentally conscious products. Participants left with fresh insights and new connections, poised to succeed in an increasingly dynamic market.

Tumblr media
(From Thursday's trip to the Mountain Park.) 1 - What have you been up to so far today? Is that a typical thing for you to do on this particular day of the week? I was at the animal shelter from 7am-11am. Then I came home, took a shower, had lunch while taking a survey, scrambled to do some catch-up housecleaning (cleaned the upstairs bathroom, wiped down the kitchen counters, cleaned out the microwave, swept, mopped the kitchen and hallway floors, and vacuumed the rug under the kitchen table as well as the carpet in the family room), and now I'm here, trying to fit in another quick survey before snack time. Oh, and no, it's not typical for me to be at the shelter on Saturdays, but due everything going on lately, I'm there from Fri-Tues with Wed and Thurs off.
2 - Did you get a decent night’s sleep last night? How many hours sleep do you consider a decent amount? It was fairly decent, but I was still pretty tired when I woke up. I felt better and more energized as the day progressed, though. I tend to need at least 7-8 hours of solid sleep in order to function. I can go maybe a night or two on less, but then my body will retaliate.
3 - What is one silly thing that really gets on your nerves? Lol, when my dad tries to talk to me when I have the water running or some other loud thing is going on (like the dishwasher is running, etc). It's not the fact that he's talking to me; it's the fact that I can't hear him, and he just will not raise his voice to be heard over whatever-it-is. I typically have to tell him to wait until I'm finished so I can actually hear him.
4 - Who was the last person you saw who wasn’t family? What did you guys end up doing together? Leslie and Iris (management at the animal shelter). They said goodbye to me as I was leaving and Leslie thanked me for rolling with all the recent changes. As I mentioned in the last survey, Alex and Cassie are leaving cattery (Alex at the end of August and Cassie in two weeks), which leaves just Diane in the mornings five days a week, Kristen who is a relatively new hire two full days a week, and me (3 full days + 2 half days). They've basically got at least two full time positions to fill and maybe one more to be truly well-staffed and comfortable. But yeah, Leslie said, "I hope you're staying…" and I was like, "Yeah, I'm gonna be around forever." There's the dysfunction you're born into and then there's the dysfunction you choose, and the animal shelter is definitely the dysfunction I've chosen. You couldn't chase me away from that place.
5 - Do you prefer hot or cold drinks overall? Cold.
6 - Do you own a decent set of waterproofs? If so, what do you use them for the most? If not, do you think that would be something you’d find useful? Waterproofs…? Like a parka or jacket or whatever…? I think I have something for backpacking, but I haven't used it for years.
7 - Do you have any plans for the rest of the day? Not really. Just catching up on some trash YouTube, kitty chores, and spending some time with my dad.
8 - How often do you get your hair cut? When hairdressers were closed due to COVID, did you try cutting it yourself at home? I give myself a buzz cut every 2-3 months. I was already cutting it myself prior to covid, so that wasn't an issue.
9 - What did you wear the last time you left the house? Is that different to what you’re wearing at the moment? Black pants, black t-shirt, blue animal shelter t-shirt. It is different to what I'm wearing now. I've got on dark blue sweatpants and another (surprise, surprise) long-sleeve animal shelter shirt. It says "Love is a rescue cat."
10 - Would you rather have a relaxing beach holiday or a more active holiday in the mountains? How about a relaxing holiday in the mountains? I just want to sit on a rock in the woods and be a lump for a while.
11 - Do you know how to tie a tie? No.
12 - How old were you when you first had a sleepover at someone’s house? Did you miss home? I'm not sure. Sometime in elementary school. I don't recall being bothered by homesickness too much.
13 - How often do you spend time with your extended family? Never.
14 - When you get up in the morning, do you have a set routine? Yeah. On animal shelter days (depending on the day + who gets there the earliest), I wake up somewhere around 5:30am-5:45am. Take a shower, brush my teeth, make my usual oatmeal concoction for breakfast, watch something on YouTube or read various comment sections, gather the rest of my things, pack a lunch if I'm staying all day, then sit and talk with my dad until it's time to leave, which is usually somewhere around 6:35am-6:45am.
15 - Do you remember the last time you cried? Were they sad or happy tears? Yeah. The Friday before last. They were sad, frustrated, lonely, defeated tears, but they were relatively short-lived. I try not to dwell on those moments and just keep pushing forward.
16 - What do you have planned once you finish this survey? Snack and catching up on some ALR BS, lmao.
17 - What was the last thing you cooked? Did you cook from scratch or just heat something up? I can't remember the last time I actually cooked something. I had a chicken salad for lunch earlier, though.
18 - Are you a fan of hot chocolate? Do you like it plain or do you prefer to add things like whipped cream or marshmallows? Yeah. I'm fine with it plain, but adding extra stuff is fun too.
19 - What caused your last injury? I don't recall my last injury. I don't think random bumps, bruises, and cat scratches count.
20 - How many tattoos and piercings do you have? Do any of them have an interesting story behind them? Several tattoos, two lip piercings. None of them have an interesting story.
21 - What kind of flowers do you like the best? When was the last time someone bought those for you? Cliche, I know, but probably roses or cherry blossoms. Also wildflowers, but no particular type. Just a blossoming field full of them. I don't remember the last time anyone bought…oh wait, never mind, I did receive a sunflower bouquet at the volunteer appreciation dinner back in April.
22 - What’s the smallest thing you’ve ended a relationship over? Idk.
23 - Would you rather order a starter (appetizer) or a dessert? Or would you be able to manage a full three courses? Dessert. I could probably manage three courses, but...ugh. I prefer to eat smaller meals throughout the day. Going out to eat throws that all off.
24 - How do you get most of your news, if you pay attention to it at all? Lol, my dad. If it wasn't for him, then I would consume almost no news at all.
25 - Have you or a member of your family been diagnosed with COVID yet? My dad and I both had covid back in Feb/March of 2023. As far as I know, my mom hasn't had it.
26 - Are you a vegetarian? If so, what persuaded you to stop eating meat? If not, is it something you’d ever consider? I'm not, and no, it's not something I would consider.
27 - Do you prefer rice or pasta? Probably rice, but I enjoy both.
28 - Is anything you’re wearing a gift? Who bought it for you? I guess the shirt was technically a gift. I got it at the volunteer dinner I mentioned above. I was going to buy it, but Leslie was like, just take it. :')
29 - What’s the dominant colour in the room you’re in at the moment? White, peach, and teal.
30 - Did you do laundry yet today? If not, do you need to do any before you go to bed? Yeah, I threw in a load earlier.

May 10 - 2024 Friday
12:16am
5/10
A LOT of 5/10 days lately but I've just been meh. This morning I vacuumed like every Friday and then chipped all the ice away from the rim of my chest freezer since it was making it hard to close. Also took everything out and shoveled out all the other ice, reorganizing everything back in. I took my shower and made instant oatmeal, a pineapple cup, and baked a slice of spam. It was a small breakfast.
For work I started warming up with arms, then I got tired of that and did a landscape color study. Then I did a couple torsos. I worked on the same commission from last time for 2 hours. I felt totally drained going into it but I got it done. DS was there for most of it to keep me company which was nice.
After stream I did my dishes and sat down to watching something for a little bit. Just as I was thinking about the power going out for no reason, it did. It was out for nearly 5 hours. During that time I went outside, called DS, and joined BR and her friends while they played Content Warning and watched Judge Judy. I got hungry enough to eat a poptart which I don't usually like but it was the only thing on hand I could eat. A little bit after they all left, I was laying in my bed listening to a Twitch stream and the power came back on. Since it wasn't 6pm yet which is my work cutoff time, I opened a project I had been working on to finish it up.
After that I did my values writing and opened KSP to try and do that mission I was attempting. I made a rice a roni cup as a snack since I'd eaten so little today. DS called and we drank while watching tiktoks for about an hour. Then she headed up to bed and we did our puzzles before watching Monster High: Haunted. It was a good movie. I made french fries and a chicken strip for dinner. When the movie was over, she told me how her therapy went and I got to see her rats running on the wheel. Also the Aurora became visible so I checked that out and got some pics. After she fell asleep I successfully completed that KSP mission despite a pretty unreliable plane design. I also got to take better pics of the aurora.
I didn't feel very present while talking today and I contribute it to not being able to enjoy my own things. It leaves me with very little to talk about, as much as I want to chat with someone. It leaves me asking basic questions and thats about it. I just didn't feel like I had it together today.

Delving Deep into Wigan's Esteemed Chip Culture
Tumblr media
In the heart of Greater Manchester lies Wigan, a town that's not just steeped in history but also in a rich, culinary tradition that has become a cornerstone of its identity: the venerable chip culture. As a 57-year-old British male with a penchant for exploring the nuances of our nation's gastronomic delights, I find Wigan's chip culture particularly fascinating, not just for its flavors but for what it represents in the broader tapestry of British culinary heritage.

The Roots of Wigan's Chip Affection
A Historical Perspective The genesis of Wigan's love affair with chips is as hearty as the dish itself. Moreover, it dates back to the early 19th century, rooted in the town's coal mining legacy. The hardy coal miners of yore would carry these fried potato pieces as a vital source of sustenance into the mines. This practical meal has since evolved into a symbol of local pride and communal identity. It's a testament to how the simplest foods can often carry the weightiest significance in our social fabric.   A Unique Serving Tradition What sets Wigan apart isn't just its dedication to preserving this tradition but the distinctive way the chips are served - generously smothered in gravy or mushy peas. It's a ritual that transforms the humble potato into a dish that's both comforting and emblematic of the town's culinary ethos.

The Evolution of Chip Making
From Tradition to Innovation The art of chip making has its roots in ancient civilizations, with the Incas and Aztecs pioneering early versions of this snack. However, the modern chip as we know it today underwent a significant transformation in the United States before making its way back across the Atlantic. This journey underscores the global influences that have shaped our local food traditions.   Embracing New Techniques Today, chip making is an amalgamation of tradition and innovation. Health-conscious trends have ushered in methods like air frying and vacuum frying, allowing for chips that are not only tasty but also more nutritious. The incorporation of diverse ingredients such as quinoa and lentils speaks to a willingness to adapt and evolve while maintaining the essence of what makes chips so beloved.

Sustainability in Chip Production
In an era where environmental consciousness is paramount, the chip industry, including those in Wigan, is not immune to the call for more sustainable practices. This shift towards eco-friendly production methods is not just a nod to global trends but a necessary step in ensuring that this culinary tradition can continue for generations to come without compromising our planet.
A Taste of Wigan: A Personal Anecdote
I recall a visit to Wigan some years ago, where I had the pleasure of sampling these famed chips, doused in a rich, savory gravy that was nothing short of divine. It was a reminder of the simple pleasures in life and how food, especially dishes as humble as chips, can evoke a sense of place and belonging. It was a dish that, in its simplicity, encapsulated the warmth and resilience of the town and its people.

Why Wigan's Chips Matter
Wigan's chips are more than just a local delicacy; they are a cultural artifact that embodies the town's history, its struggles, and its victories. They represent a culinary tradition that has withstood the test of time, adapting to changing tastes and technologies without losing its essence. Whether you're a devotee of the classic salt and vinegar or you're inclined towards the adventurous curry sauce, Wigan's chips offer a taste of tradition and innovation in every bite.
A Call to Culinary Exploration
Wigan's journey from a mining town to a bastion of chip culture is a narrative that invites reflection on the broader themes of tradition, innovation, and sustainability in our culinary practices. Additionally, as we look to the future, let us not forget the lessons embedded in these simple, fried potatoes: that food is a reflection of our collective history, a source of communal pride, and a canvas for innovation. Furthermore, it prompts us to consider the interplay between cultural heritage and culinary evolution. So, I extend an invitation to you, dear reader, to explore the rich tapestry of British culinary traditions, starting with a visit to Wigan. There, amidst the clatter of chip shops, you'll find a dish that's as much a part of Britain's cultural heritage as it is a testament to the enduring spirit of its people.   Sources: THX News & Olive Magazine. We just got back from having some drinks and sn as cks at the Guinness brewery. It was a nice way to end the day!! I had a good day today. I am very tired but it was a nice day.
I am getting to the point where I miss work though. I like two or three days off. But even though I worked Wednesday I have been home a lot. And I know there is stuff to do but it's hard to have all this time and not enough direction.
I slept okay last night. I woke up a few times but it wasn't the worst sleep. I slept until 9. I missed James when I woke up for real. And I was sad because they sent me a text saying they were hurting and miss being able to sleep and I feel bad. I don't know how to help. I am encouraging them to be honest and frank with the doctor on Tuesday. I really hope they take them seriously.
I had to deal with some phone calls about the new medication I'm going to be taking. I am still going on Monday and getting the first injection so that's exciting. Also scary. The chemo pills have been upsetting my stomach I think. I have been keeping notes. But it's just one of those things that it's hard to tell what's doing what. Like I always don't feel great so it's hard to decide what is causing what. At least there is progress.
I spoke to my dad for a little. And then got up for real.
I got washed and dressed and was a little uncomfy. But that was okay. I ended up making myself a quesadilla while I made a batch of cookies. I was having a nice morning.
I cleaned the fish tank and the frog tank more. I did partial water changes on both. The frog tank's substrate could still use some more vacuuming I think but we made great progress. It was a lot of work honestly. Lugging buckets back and forth. But it needed to be done.
I decided I could go for a walk. I want to try to move more and I am going to challenge myself to walk around the block every other day at least. Like I don't know if this is an actual challenge I am giving myself. But it's a goal at least. I think it'll help me feel better in the long run.
I saw Mr Will when I got down there so I went back up and got the cookie box for him. And we chatted for a minute. He was replacing our front door lock because poor Nick got mugged. And they took his keys and so just in case he was replacing the lock. I would see Nick later snd he was all red eyed. I felt terrible. I'm glad he is safe, even if they took his things. It apparently happened at 745 last night. Like right after James went to put the recycling in the back. So it is just really scary.
I had brought a watermelon drink with me on my walk. I had a podcast to listen too. And it was a nice walk. I did get overheated pretty fast and regretted bringing my coat. But I had a nice walk. I walked for about 40 minutes.
And once I got home I laid on the couch because I was very tired.
Me and Sweetp laid together for a while. I was trapped. But once he got up I went and made a late lunch. I baked the fries I got at the store yesterday. And some veggie chicken nuggets. It was an excellent meal.
While I was eating Mr Will knocked on the door. And he had a new key for me. And I would end up holding onto the rest of the keys so that our neighbors could come get them from me. But it ended up not being needed as they were mostly around already. The new key is gold.
I caught up on my knitting and I cannot believe tomorrow is the last day. I am so excited to be done. Tomorrow I will have three lines. The last day and then the month lines. And then it comes off the loom!!! I'm so excited. I can't believe it.
James got home and asked if I wanted to go to the Guinness brewery to hang out with Conner and his wife before they left to go back to St Louis. And I said sure.
But it wasn't for a while. So I could just chill in bed for a bit. And James had a snack. And soon enough I was getting dressed again and fixing my makeup and we were off.
I had never been to the brewery but I'd like to go back and do a tour. It was interesting. I got a sprite. And it was Conner and his wife and siblings and their friends. It was a nice time. Eventually we got a table and we got big pretzels and cheese and some other bar foods. The table was a big large and it was hard to talk to the people on the other side but I enjoyed talking to Conner and I had a good time.
James knocked my water over and got their phone a little wet but it seems fine now. I was mostly just having fun looking around. I wanted to look more but I didn't want to wander.
I do love the Guinness tucan. I thought he was a submarine but I know realize he's balancing two pints. Adorable.
It was a really nice night. Conner and his wife had to go to the airport. So we walked out with them and said goodbye. There were some hugs. It was really nice.
We got home and James was very sore. We had some troubling finding a parking space but we got home and got up here. I took a shower and James started trying to get cozy.
I washed my hair and now I'm getting ready to go dry it. I hope I don't disturb James. They have fallen asleep. They look so sweet. I love them so very much.
Tomorrow is the last day of the year. I can't believe it!! I am planning on doing a no buy January. I wrote up rules and stuff for myself. So tomorrow I need to get the yarn I need for my next blanket. I'm excited. I am sad Jess isn't here to do it with me but it will be okay. I hope the last day of the year is beautiful. For you all as well.
Goodnight everyone. Take care of yourselves!! Sleep well!!

Navigating Insulin Resistance- How Flyberry Can Assist in PCOS Management
Polycystic Ovary Syndrome (PCOS) is a common hormonal illness that affects women of reproductive age and is characterised by irregular menstrual periods, high levels of androgen hormone, and the presence of tiny cysts in the ovaries. Insulin resistance, a disorder in which the body's cells do not respond adequately to insulin, is one of the underlying reasons contributing to PCOS. Insulin resistance can result in high insulin levels, which disrupts hormonal balance and worsens PCOS symptoms. Managing insulin resistance is an important element of PCOS treatment, and eating a well-balanced diet rich in nutrients can help greatly with PCOS management.
Flyberry, a reputable supplier of best quality dates products, provides a natural and nutritious alternative to battle insulin resistance and assist women with PCOS on their path to better health.
Understanding Insulin Resistance and PCOS
Insulin is a hormone generated by the pancreas that aids in blood sugar regulation. Insulin resistance occurs when cells become less receptive to insulin's activity, requiring the body to produce more insulin to maintain normal blood sugar levels. Excess insulin in the bloodstream can drive the ovaries to create more androgens (male hormones), which can result in hormonal abnormalities and PCOS symptoms.
Women with PCOS are frequently recommended to make lifestyle modifications to combat insulin resistance. A well-balanced diet rich in low glycemic index foods can be helpful since it helps to maintain stable blood sugar levels and lowers the body's insulin demand.
Flyberry Dates: A Natural Treatment for PCOS
Flyberry sells a variety of date-based goods, such as date powder and vacuum-fried chips, that can be beneficial additions to a PCOS-friendly diet. Dry dates powder has a low glycemic index, making them a good choice for people who have insulin resistance. Here is how Flyberry dates can help with PCOS management.
1. Glycemic Index Low: Flyberry dates have a low glycemic index, which means they raise blood sugar levels more slowly and gradually than high-GI meals. Individuals with PCOS can better manage their blood sugar levels and prevent insulin surges by including Flyberry nuts and dates in meals or snacks.
2. Nutrient-dense: Organic Dates are high in critical nutrients such as vitamins, minerals, and fibre. These nutrients are good for your general health and can help with insulin sensitivity, weight management, and lowering PCOS symptoms.
3. Sugar Substitute: Flyberry date powder can be used as a natural sweetener in a variety of recipes, including smoothies, desserts, and baked goods. Replace refined sugar with Ameri dates and make date powder to help reduce blood sugar spikes and promote a more balanced insulin response.
4. Snack substitute: Flyberry vacuum-fried date chips are a healthy and delicious snack alternative for those with PCOS. They provide a delectable blend of sweet and savoury flavours without the guilt associated with eating high-GI manufactured snacks.
5. Helps with Weight Loss: Dates and almond powder can be a healthy supplement to a well-balanced diet for weight loss. Their low GI and fibre content enhance satiety and minimise overeating, assisting with weight loss or maintenance attempts.
6. Increased Energy: Dates are a terrific source of natural energy, making them an excellent choice for a quick and healthful snack. Dates and Indian dry fruits can provide a natural energy boost without triggering a dramatic jump in blood sugar levels, which is common in women with PCOS.
Adding Flyberry Dates to Your PCOS Diet
Here are some practical ways to incorporate Flyberry dates into your PCOS-friendly diet:
1. Smoothies with Flyberry Date Powder:
Smoothies are an excellent method to incorporate key nutrients into your diet. Add a scoop of Flyberry date powder to your smoothies to boost the nutritional content and natural sweetness. Flyberry dates, when combined with your favourite fruits, leafy greens, and a source of healthy fats (such as avocado, berries or roasted nuts ), make a satisfying and balanced smoothie that promotes stable blood sugar levels.
2. Use Date Paste to Make PCOS-Friendly Desserts:
Desserts can be difficult to negotiate for people with PCOS, but you can enjoy sweet treats without jeopardising your health. Date paste is made by mixing Flyberry dates and Flyberry nuts with a little water until they are smooth. Date paste can be used as a natural sweetener in desserts such as energy balls, no-bake cookies, and fruit-based snacks.
3. Chopped Flyberry Dates on Salads:
Salads can be made more nutritious by sprinkling chopped Flyberry dates on top. The natural sweetness of the dates and little coconut flour works well with savoury components, offering a pleasing flavour contrast in your salads. Furthermore, the fibre component of dates helps you feel full and pleased after your meal.
4. Baking using Flyberry Dates:
Mix using chopped Flyberry zahidi dates in muffins, granola bars, or other baked products. Dates add natural sweetness and a chewy texture to baked goods, enhancing their flavour and nutritional value.
5. Drizzle Date Syrup:
Date syrup is a delicious drizzle for pancakes, waffles, and yoghurt bowls prepared from pureed Flyberry dates. It adds a hint of natural sweetness without creating blood sugar increases.
Conclusion
Flyberry dates are a healthy and natural way to manage insulin resistance in PCOS. Women with PCOS can enhance their blood sugar control, insulin sensitivity, and overall health and well-being by including Flyberry date-based products in a balanced diet. To ensure individualised and effective PCOS management, always speak with a healthcare physician or a qualified dietitian before making significant dietary changes.
Always aim for a balanced diet that includes a variety of nutrient-rich foods to support your PCOS management effectively. As with any dietary changes, it is essential to consult with a healthcare professional or registered dietitian to tailor your diet to your specific health needs and goals. By making informed choices and embracing nutritious options like Flyberry dates, you can navigate PCOS with greater ease and achieve better well-being

6 Effective Strategies for Reducing the Risk of Colorectal Cancer
Tumblr media
Introduction
Colorectal cancer is a type of cancer that affects the colon and rectum, which are parts of the digestive system. In Abu Dhabi, just like in other parts of the world, colorectal cancer is a serious health concern. According to the Abu Dhabi Health Services Company, SEHA, colorectal cancer is one of the most common cancers in the UAE, accounting for 9.4% of all cancers diagnosed in the country. It is also the third most common cancer among both men and women in Abu Dhabi.
Regular colon cancer screenings can help detect it early and make it easier to treat. In Abu Dhabi, SEHA hospitals and other private hospitals offer colon cancer screening and colorectal surgery to prevent, diagnose, and treat colorectal cancer.
Strategy 1: Healthy Diet
It is possible to reduce the risk of colorectal cancer by eating a healthy diet. Here are some tips for maintaining a healthy diet:
Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables: Fruits and vegetables are rich in vitamins, minerals, and fiber, which are essential for maintaining good health. Every day, eat at least five servings of fruits and vegetables. It’s suitable for snacking or adding to meals.
Choose whole grains: Whole grains are a good source of fiber, which can help keep your digestive system healthy. Examples of whole grains include brown rice, whole-wheat bread, and whole-grain pasta.
Limit red and processed meats: Eating red meat, like beef, pork, and lamb, and processed meats, such as hot dogs and bacon, can raise your risk of colorectal cancer. One way to reduce the risk of colorectal cancer is by limiting the amount of red and processed meats you eat. Instead, opt for leaner protein options like fish, chicken, or beans.
Avoid sugary and fatty foods: Foods with lots of sugar and fat, like candy, cookies, and fried foods, can make you gain weight. Being overweight can increase your risk of getting colorectal cancer. To stay healthy, you can eat less of these foods and choose healthier options like fresh fruit or a small handful of nuts.
By following these tips, you can maintain a healthy diet that may help reduce your risk of developing colorectal cancer. Remember, eating a variety of healthy foods and limiting your intake of unhealthy foods is key to maintaining good health.
Strategy 2: Physical Activity
Moving your body regularly can help reduce your chances of getting colorectal cancer. It helps your digestion, boosts your immune system, and lowers inflammation. It also helps to regulate hormones that can play a role in the development of cancer. Adding physical activity to your daily routine:
Walk, run, or bike: These activities can be done outdoors or indoors on a treadmill or stationary bike. Aim for at least 30 minutes of moderate to vigorous exercise, such as brisk walking or running, on most days of the week.
Participate in sports: Joining a sports team or league can be a fun and social way to get regular exercise. Some examples of team sports include soccer, basketball, and volleyball.
Dance: Dancing is a fun and engaging form of physical activity that can be done alone or with others. You can take dance classes or simply turn on some music and dance in your living room.
Do household chores: Activities like vacuuming, sweeping, and gardening can also count as physical activity. Aim to do these tasks for at least 30 minutes on most days of the week.
Remember to start increasing the duration and intensity of your physical activity. If you have any medical conditions or concerns, consult with your doctor before starting a new exercise routine. Also, try to find activities that you enjoy, so that you are more likely to stick with them over the long term.
Strategy 3: Quitting Smoking
Quitting smoking is an important way to reduce the risk of colorectal cancer. Smoking is linked to several types of cancer, including colorectal cancer. Smoking can also lead to other health problems, such as heart disease, lung disease, and stroke. Here are some steps you can take to quit smoking:
Set a quit date: Choose a date when you plan to stop smoking. Mark it on your calendar and make sure to tell your friends and family so they can support you.
Find a support system: Quitting smoking can be difficult, so it’s important to have a support system. This can include friends, family, or a support group.
Try nicotine replacement therapy: Nicotine replacement therapy, such as patches or gum, can help reduce the physical symptoms of nicotine withdrawal.
Avoid triggers: Triggers are situations or activities that make you want to smoke. Avoiding these triggers can help you resist the urge to smoke.
Stay busy: Keeping yourself busy can help you distract yourself from the urge to smoke. You can try exercise, hobbies, or spending time with friends and family.
Remember, quitting smoking is a process, and it may take several attempts before you can quit for good. Don’t give up if you slip up and have a cigarette. Instead, learn from the experience and try again. Talk to your doctor if you need additional support or guidance in quitting smoking.
Strategy 4: Moderate Alcohol Consumption
Drinking too much alcohol can increase your risk of getting colorectal cancer. It’s important to drink in moderation to help reduce this risk. Here are some tips for moderate drinking:
Limit how much you drink: If you drink alcohol, women should have no more than one drink a day, and men should have no more than two drinks a day.
Know what a standard drink is: A standard drink is a 12-ounce beer, a 5-ounce glass of wine, or 1.5 ounces of hard liquor.
Don’t drink too much at once: Drinking four or more drinks in two hours if you’re a woman or five or more drinks if you’re a man can be dangerous and increase your risk of cancer.
Choose drinks with less alcohol: Beer and wine usually have less alcohol than other drinks. Drinking these instead can help you stay within the safe limits of drinking.
It’s still important to be careful, even if you don’t drink a lot. Drinking can be harmful if you have a family history of alcoholism, liver disease, or certain types of cancer. Talk to your doctor if you’re worried about your drinking.
Strategy 5: Regular Screenings
Regular colorectal cancer screenings can help detect precancerous growths or early-stage cancer before symptoms appear, making it easier to treat and cure cancer. There are different types of screening tests that your doctor may recommend, including:
Fecal occult blood test (FOBT): A simple test that checks for blood in the stool, which can be a sign of cancer or other problems. This test is usually done at home using a test kit, and the samples are sent to a lab for analysis.
Stool DNA test: A newer test that looks for DNA changes in the stool that may be a sign of cancer. This test is also done at home using a test kit, and the samples are sent to a lab for analysis.
Flexible sigmoidoscopy: During a flexible sigmoidoscopy, a doctor will use a flexible tube with a camera to examine your rectum and lower colon for growths or polyps. The procedure takes place in the doctor’s office and usually lasts about 20–30 minutes.
Colonoscopy: A procedure that uses a flexible tube with a camera to examine the entire colon for growths or polyps. This test is usually done in a hospital or outpatient center and takes about 30–60 minutes.
Your doctor will suggest a screening test based on your age and family history to check for any signs of cancer. It’s important to follow the schedule your doctor recommends to catch any potential cancer early. Here are some other tips to help you remember to get screened:
Talk to your doctor about your screening options and schedule.
If you experience any symptoms such as rectal bleeding, abdominal pain, or changes in bowel habits, talk to your doctor immediately.
Prepare for your screening by following your doctor’s instructions on bowel preparation.
Make sure to attend all follow-up appointments as recommended by your doctor.
Strategy 6: Maintaining a Healthy Weight
Maintaining a healthy weight is important for reducing the risk of colorectal cancer. Being overweight or obese can increase the risk of developing the disease. Here are some ways to help maintain a healthy weight:
Eat a balanced diet: Eating different healthy foods like fruits, veggies, grains, lean meat, and low-fat milk can help you stay at a good weight. Limiting high-calorie, high-fat, and processed foods is also important.
Practice portion control: Eating too much food, even if it is healthy food, can lead to weight gain. Use smaller plates, measure portions, and avoid eating in front of the TV to help control how much you eat.
Stay active: Regular physical activity can help you maintain a healthy weight. Aim for at least 30 minutes of moderate to vigorous exercise, such as brisk walking or cycling, on most days of the week.
Get enough sleep: Not getting enough sleep can lead to weight gain. Aim for 7–8 hours of sleep per night to help maintain a healthy weight.
Limit alcohol consumption: Drinking too much alcohol can contribute to weight gain. It’s recommended that women have no more than one drink per day and men have no more than two drinks per day.
Stay at a healthy weight, it takes time and effort, and small, sustainable lifestyle changes can help you reach your goals. But, before making any diet or exercise changes, talk to your doctor if you have any medical conditions or concerns.
Conclusion
