thinking about how Val's reality-rewriting miracles were alluded to in season 1 with Daggler's propaganda god... like the common element between Daggler's lies as a police officer and Val's lies as a demigod of war is the state's monopoly on legitimate violence, right? To maintain the monopoly on legitimate violence, the state has to justify the violence it commits as legitimate ex post facto in order to maintain its hold on political power, regardless of the facts. If the facts don't justify the legitimacy of the state's use of violence the facts have to change. So the state's monopoly on legitimate violence also is predicated on a monopoly on truth - hence the outsized danger of the propaganda gods! And to exercise their control over a shared reality, they require the corroboration of one or more witnesses!
